:OLD: The CycleShelter Portable Motorcycle Shelter By Kathy Tremblay Ok... Here's the scene: You're driving through Weir's Beach for Laconia, NH Bike Week, and it starts to rain just as you're parking your motorcycle. Mud is splashing... on everyone else's bike - but not yours! That's because your bike - with your custom paint job - is neatly tucked into a nice lightweight, transportable shelter. You may be outside in the rain getting soaked, but at least your prized bike is nice and dry. And people are offering you money for your shelter! Well... ok, maybe that's going too far in the fantasy! But, people are probably asking you where you got that nifty tent! At first glance, the tent-like motorcycle shelters you may be seeing popping up at various motorcycle rallies across the country may appear to be a little too lightweight to offer any real protection to your motorcycle. After all, you really can't anchor them permanently down into the ground like you can with other temporary or portable garages, and the material is light. In fact, if you think these shelters feel like a camping tent, you're right! The shelter I'm referring to is called the CycleShelter, and it has a lightweight marine fabric floor, and a dome-like cover that the user pulls up and over the motorcycle in an accordion fashion. There are other, similar style shelters that go by different brand names and which are offered all over the internet. So,the primary objection to these shelters appears to be that they are not intended for extended use in lieu of a sturdier, more permanent cover. More specifically, if you are in the market for something to store your bike in outdoors for months on end, through snow and wind, you might want to consider something a little stronger and a little heavier that can be anchored firmly to the ground. But, if you are looking for a shelter or cover you can carry with you right on your bike, and which can be assembled or taken down fairly quickly, the CycleShelter may fit the bill. You will have it at your fingertips while everyone else is grumbling about what the weather conditions are doing to their nice chrome or paint. When traveling, or when you're at a rally and you've got your bike parked at Weirs Beach (or Daytona or other rallies!) and don't want it soaked or sand-blasted yet again, these shelters can prove their worth time after time. There will be no puddles in the saddlebags, no wet seats, and no HOT seats (after being parked in the sun all day). When you're back at home, you can use your motorcycle shelter right in your driveway or yard - again, remembering that these are not as sturdy as some other portable garages are for long-term use. You can use it indoors wherever you store your bike over the winter, and there will be no material contacting your custom paint job. If you are considering the purchase of one of these shelters, keep in mind the actual dimensions of your bike. The manufacturer of the shelter will likely post the dimensions of the shelter, but you will need to make sure it fits your own bike. Always measure the absolute highest, longest and widest points (for example, outermost points of the mirrors). You would not want to stress the fabric by having parts of the bike pushing against the shelter during storage. Finally, and not to get off the subject of sheltering your beautiful motorcycle, but the more I look at them, the more these portable structures look like just the ticket for storing other toys too! I'm already picturing lawn furniture, grills, and bicycles in them! www.cycleshelter.com Posted Image |

I think that this sort of thing just proves the different types of riders If my bike is wet then it stays wet until it stops raining, if its a hot sunny day I will park in the shade.................. |
