Welsh MP calls for bike testing network expansion

An MP is campaigning for an expanded motorcycle testing network in Wales.

Since the introduction of the new two-part examination, many testing facilities have closed down, with few places on offer in rural parts of the country meaning applicants have to travel to Bangor, Swansea and Shrewsbury.

The Tivyside Advertiser reports that Ceredigion's Welsh Liberal Democrat MP Mark Williams used the recent conference in Bournemouth to call upon the Transport Select Committee to look into the testing network.

Mr Williams presented the committee with a submission requesting they search for casual testing facilities in areas that are not well covered.

"At the moment learner riders in Ceredigion and other parts of rural Wales face an extremely long and potentially dangerous journey in order to take part of the test and there are very real fears that the new test could harm road safety rather than improve it," he stated.

Mr Williams went on to say that he hoped the committee would see how the new test has marginalised the people of rural Wales.

The test went live on April 27th this year and now includes an off-road section.

I reckon that the whole of the UK needs to look at the complete picture of what has happened under this "new regime" - in my opinion it has got to the point of being ridiculous
