Electric motorcycles ride closer to federal funding House of Representatives pass amendment to allow Department of Energy funding With protests from riders and advocacy groups, everyone's favorite past time may have been overlooked for the recent cash for clunkers program, but the motorcycle is getting some governmental love from the United States House of Representatives. Even as electric performance racing motorcycles are capturing riders imagination as well as headlines an amendment has been passed giving two-wheel electric vehicles manufacturers access to Department of Energy funding for further development of electric vehicles. The amendment was included in HR 3246, the Advanced Vehicle Technology Act and passed the House on September 16, 2009, 312-114. For the EV industry this will allow, for the first time, two-wheel vehicles to benefit from federal Department of Energy funding. In what may be a governmental first, the funding comes as the motorcycle world enthusiastically rides onto the greener roads of all-electric power Earlier in July and on the heels of the the world's first zero-emissions motorcycle race at the Isle of Man Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) announced their intentions for a new zero-emissions motorcycle competition in 2010. "With the success of the TTXGP on the Isle of Man, we have shown that zero carbon technology is ready to deliver the thrills and passion for both spectators and riders. In partnership with the FIM, we are taking the next step and proud to be pushing new frontiers in motorsports technology both on and off the track,” said Azhar Hussain, founder of the eGrandPrix and a person who could be considered a founding father of the new era in two-wheeled competition. source: www.clutchandchrome.com |

BILL A BOOST TO ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE RESEARCH The United States House of Representatives has unanimously passed an amendment giving two-wheel electric vehicles manufacturers access to Department of Energy funding for further development of electric vehicles. The amendment was included in HR 3246, the Advanced Vehicle Technology Act and passed the House on September 16, 2009, 312-114. For the EV industry this will allow, for the first time, two-wheel vehicles to benefit from federal Department of Energy funding. Brammo, maker of the plug-in electric Enertia powercycle, applauds the House for including two-wheel vehicles in this amendment, and encourages the Senate to follow suit. “It’s gratifying to see the House of Representatives recognize the tremendous potential of the two-wheel electric vehicle industry and their recent move to better equalize federal government support between electric motorcycles and cars,” said Craig Bramscher, BRAMMO founder and CEO. “Brammo appreciates the efforts of U.S. Representative Patrick J. Kennedy and the rest of the House to gain passage of this important amendment and we look forward to continuing our work with our industry coalition partners, Plug IN America (www.pluginamerica.org), who was also instrumental in getting this legislation passed.” Brammo encourages voters to take a moment to tell their United States Senator’s to support and pass this measure when it comes up to vote.
