France: Massive Communication Campaign On Road Safety 16 September 2009 File under Ads France Safety Author: Mike Werner Location: Travelling Via: Securite Routiere The French government are not letting down their attention or pressure towards radically eliminating road deaths. They have just started a massive publicity campaign on French TV, with 20 safety ads to be released over the next few days. The slogan is good, if not great: "An accident never happens by accident" Each TV ad deals with a specific topic, and uses a real life example of what can happen. The entries marked with a "*" concern motorcycles or scooters. * Passing on the right Guy on motorcycle passes cars on the right since he's late for a meeting. Car turns to the right, and guy is killed. * Speed 15 year old takes his scooter with a friend to watch a soccer game, and are late, so speed. Hit a truck, both die. Seat-belt for rear passengers Girl loses her daughter because she wasn't wearing her seat-belt in the rear. * The indicator Guy turns right without indicating while a scooter passes him on the right. Sleepy while driving Driving back from holiday, guy gets sleepy at midnight and falls asleep. Drugs Guy, after smoking a joint drives his car, and has a bad reflex when a car hits them. Railroad crossings Guy is bring his daughter in his car, and drives over an unmanned railway crossing, never seeing the train. Pedestrian crossings Guy runs over pedestrians crossing the road on a pedestrian crossing. Phoning while driving 2 girls with a new driving license on their way to holiday, when the driver SMSs, not seeing a 7 year old crossing the road. * Helmets Guy uses his scooter without properly strapping his helmet. Crash. Red lights Guy on a bicycle goes through a red light. Vehicle maintenance Guy crashes his car while it was raining, and with under-inflated tires. Excessive speeds Guy drives his lorry fast in order to finish for the day and go on holiday. Crash. Distance between vehicles Driving behind a slower car, the front car hits the brakes. Crash! Too heavy loaded vehicles Family and furniture create heavy load on the car, a driver loses control. * One way streets Bicyclist goes wrong way into one way street and gets hit by motorcycle. Drinking and Driving Big lunch, lots of wine, and accident .. Speed and habits Women drives every day on same road, and drives faster than allowed until a wild boar crosses the road. Alcohol and young people Young kids drink at a party and then start driving. crash White line Women is impatient behind a tractor, passes it despite a white line, right into an oncoming truck. None of these TV ads use shock effects. They are a mixture of animation, video clips and still drawings. | Yeah radars can note that kind of speed. My sister is working for a Los Angeles DUI attorney and she was telling that these days’ cops have radars which can measure up to 200 mph. I was wondering who goes that high and now know that at times they truly need it. |
