QUANTYA SA was set up in 2005 by Max Modena in order to develop and produce high performance electric motorcycles. Max Modena is a motocross enthusiast living in Switzerland and when the Swiss banned the use of noisy two-stroke engines which power most motocross bikes he saw an opportunity. The bikes has to radically change from the current motocross bikes. They still had to be fun and fast, but also quiet. The first range of bikes appeared on the market in mid 2007. The FMX had a limited production run due to a change in the battery technology. The move to Lithium Polymer batteries allowed the electric motorbikes to be a lot more powerful and last for a lot longer. In 2008 the Evo1 was released. There are two versions of the Evo1, the Track - a motocross bike made for offroad use only, and the Strada - a road legal version intended for enduro. Since the release of the Evo1 Quantya electric motorcycles have gone from strength to strength getting more and more media publicity and public awareness. There are now distributors all over the world working together to push the Quantya brand. There are also other brands popping up constantly announcing new electric motorbikes. The most notable of these is motocross giant KTM who announced their e-bike will be ready for production within 18 months. This is a significant step in the movement towards electric vehicles for transportation and also leisure activities, and proves Quantya are on to something good.
