http://www.detnews.com/article/20100629/LIFESTYLE03/6290408/Report--Michigan-10th-fattest-state Michigan came in tenth in this "contest". C'mon guys! We can do much better by this time next year, what with all of this time we have on our hands without any jobs to go to and having a 6 month-long winter. Let's all go to Mickey D's for 5,687 Happy Meals! Yaya! Everything's OKAY! The gov'mint is footing the tab; who cares where the money comes from! ... A nearly 30% obesity rate? Really? And that's TENTH in the nation?! Mississippi wins first prize, which is a trip to Ponderosa, with their 33.8% rate. The article mentions that more than two-thirds of all states have an obesity rate over 25%. Meaning, in most states worth going to, either one out of every 4 or 3 people you meet is not able to slip in behind the wheel of a Corvette (ironically, one of the last American-owned, American-made cars still around). PATHETIC. This is inexcusable! But what REALLY pissed me off is this line:
...So, what you're saying is that the poorer you are...the fatter you're more likely to be. Right. WHAT IS THIS SHIT? On what goddamned planet does this make ANY sense to ANYONE?! It sure as hell doesn't make any to me. At this rate, we won't need to secure the borders, as our bloated asses will automatically keep anyone from crossing over. Shit, we'll need to take over Mexico in order to build a parking lot big enough for all of our new Burger Kings if this keeps up. The worst part is that all I have to do is take a look at my workplace to see stone cold evidence of this phenomena. Or go to the mall. Or...anywhere around here. Now...I'm not hating on fat people just because they're, well, fat. I'm pissed off that it takes a REALLY sick, decadant culture to allow this to even get to this level. What's even worse is that, like it or not, we're all essentially headed for a socialized health care system, so yes, YOUR health is now MY business, since its up to the healthy people who work to pay for these out of control health care tabs. This cycle of self-abuse and gross indulgence has got to end. There is no other choice. If it doesn't end, how long do you think people like me, who actually give a shit about our well-being (don't let my skeletal frame fool you- I'm actually getting into pretty good cardiovascular shape these days) are going to keep carrying you? Whether we want to or not isn't even the problem- its whether or not we CAN. When a nation gets this unhealthy, it puts a tremendous strain on society, the economy, and now the government, who all must cope with this problem. It has stopped being a personal, individual problem by now. It is, literally, MY problem, no matter how much I try to get into shape and walk the walk. So, knock off the goddamned "I'll have a Big Mac, LARGE, with an extra order of fries, and, um, a Diet Coke" routine, because it's not funny anymore. Seriously, leave the fucking house and go excersize. You have no more excuses. And do NOT use it as an excuse to walk to McDonald's. Otherwise you'll have to answer not to me, but the people in power, who idolize George Bernard Shaw: You must all know half a dozen people at least who are of no use in this world, who are more trouble than they are worth. Just put them there and say 'you Sir, or Madam, now will you be kind enough to justify your existence?' If you can’t justify your existence, if you’re not pulling your weight in the social boat, if you’re not producing as much as you consume or perhaps a little more, then, clearly, we cannot use the organizations of our society for the purpose of keeping you alive, because your life does not benefit us and it can’t be of very much use to yourself. Enjoy. Now, political motivation aside, you should just want to be in good shape. Period. In an emergency situation, you think anyone's going to want to lug around and protect someone who can barely even walk? Hell no. Let's be real here- you'd be a liability, and I for one would ditch you in a heartbeat, because we're BOTH gonna die in such a scenario. Or even in less severe situations, like everyday situations, why would you want to perpetuate this kind of lifestyle? That's no way to live. Fearing fucking staircases isn't normal. And for as many excuses as people manufacture...with as much effort as they put into not doing any work to better themselves...there's simply no excuse. I will not make excuses for you. YOU need to take some goddamned initiative, stop using that weaksauce "its my genes!" bullshit, and hit the gym. All of us have weaknesses. It's how we adapt to and take these weaknesses into account that make us honorable human beings.[/color] |
