The money system in the Verse is well… diverse. On the one side you have ´credits´ that are used on the Core worlds. These Credits are tracked by the Alliance every step of the way. And thus hard to use in ‘illegal’ transactions. But credits are no good when you want to live on the border/rim planets, or want to do business there.

On the other side you have platinum. This is ‘hard’ currency (supposedly coins) that are used on border/rim worlds. However platinum isn’t an ‘official’ currency and thus not supported by the alliance and using it on a core world would be a crime in itself.

In this game we keep to an easy conversion ratio that converts both credits and platinum back to US dollars on earth-that-was.

1 credit = 2.5 platinum = 25 USD.

Meaning one credit is worth 25 dollar, as well is 2.5 platinum. And thus 1 platinum is 10 dollars.
This is the general conversion we use on this RPG. However, as everything with business, it’s all about making a good deal! If you think something is worth 30 platinum, but the buyer only wants to pay 20, you gotta find a way to make your deal!

Demand plays a big part in this. Livestock is for instance in high demand on border/rim worlds, as it makes someone independent from Blue Sun transports (transporting ‘protein enriched food supplements’). Got cargo that is in high demand, and you could find yourself the highest bidder. Got something not in high demand, well maybe you’ll never get rid of it and it might hold your cargo bay filled until you can do nothing but to sell it with loss or just dump it somewhere.
