This is the verse map made specifically for this RPG, Out In The Black. You can click on the image to view the full version of the map. This is not meant to be on scale, this is purely a reference where planets are located, and to get a 'feel' of the verse.

As a short explanation of this system. This system is a multi-star system of five stars, standing relatively close to each other. Unlike our solar system, the planets and moons also stand relatively close to each other. In the 'Verse there is no FTL (faster-then-light travel), but because everything is relatively close to each other, within a few days a ship can travel from one planet to the other planet that's on the other side of the system (everything is of course dependant on the distances etc.). We're not working with set travel distances/times, we allow for some artistic freedom, but keep it believable. You can't travel from the core system to Newhall in the Rim system in just a week.

In the replies below you'll find short descriptions about all the planets, at least where we have information off, each system is explained in one reply, core first, then the border systems and rim system lastly. If you have a nice idea for a planet that doesn't have a description yet, please pm ShinLi!

The map is created by me and if you want to use it somewhere else, contact me first. If you use this without my permission/credit you'll be sorry ^^.

Note: in the firefly universe there isn't a set 'canon' map, some use a system of only one star, some three, some five. We decided on five stars as this allows more freedom, possiblities for space travel and unknown situations. Instead of squishing everyting together in a single star system. I have tried to research everything as closely as possible and hopefully have included all the current known planets and moons. There would be more planets and moons that are not inhabitable, but I have decided not to include those ,as it would become too big then.

Core System Planets/Moons

Liann Jiun -- No information at this moment

Shinon -- The jewel of the Core worlds, Sihnon is described in such a way as to imply that it far surpasses the sophistication and technology level of any of the planets we see during the show. Shinon is the home planet to the Chinese culture.

Londinium -- Another rich Core world, sophisticated and techonological very advanced. Londinium is home to the American culture.

Bellerophon -- The moon of Londinium, it's a rich man's paradise. Each fairly well off person has their own estate, which is a floating island of their own above the planet's oceans. The floating islands have their own gardens, houses, everything a person could want. However the planet isn't completely water covered, there are areas of arid desert.

Osiris -- A very wealthy Core world. The planet is 'advanced' enough to have developed truly disreputable areas in the urban sprawl, places known as Blackout Zones where loyal Alliance citizens simply do not go. The main city on Osiris is called Capital City. The planet is known for it's proper educations and high-educated young citizens that move out from to other Core planets. And also home to the companion guild.

Arial Moon of Osiris, and a wealthy core world with exemplary medical facilities (if not exemplary security).

Georgia -- Gas Giant

Bernadette Moon of Georgia. After the initial colonization of Londinium and Sihnon, Bernadette was the first planet (moon) to be terraformed and settled by humanity. It is a traditional launching point for those leaving to settle on other worlds. Settlers arrive here from other planets in the core and make preparations to set off for a new life on the Border/Rim

Kerry Recently Terra-formed moon, but not open to standard colonization yet. As it's a moon in the core planet, the Alliance wants to make this moon as perfect as possible.

Heinlein System (border system one)

The Heinlein system is named after it's Gas Giant. All systems have at least one gas giant and to keep everything simple the border systems took over the names of these gas giants for their system name.

Uninhabitable Planet -- An uninhabitable planet, it has no name as of yet and doesn't really catch anyone's interest. The planet stands too close to the sun of the Heinlein system, thus it is unable to be terraformed.

Hera -- Hera was the site (via Serenity Valley) of what turned out to be the last major battle of Unification War.
Hera is the breadbasket of the system. Lying between the Core and outer planets on a major shipping lane, Hera was a major strategic locus during the war. There are over half a million gravestones of those that lost their lives in the battle (from both sides), in the hills next to Serenity valley.

Persephone -- Moon of Hera. Civilized but large populated planet with heavily stratified societal structure (and, as a result, a large slum population). San Fransico from Earth-that-was seems to have an influence on the architecture here. Persephone has a local monarchy. Nobility is indicated by wearing a sash. And the richer folk live in the typical high rise buildings in the center of the capital city (and other cities).

Eavesdown docks is a docking port on the planet of Persephone. Seen as a lower class slum area, a lot more less well to do ships land and dock here. Instead of the 'rich' docking places. It's also a good place to look for a 'cheap' way to get off the planet, or boats who seek passengers to transport somewhere else.

Santo -- Moon of Hera, and a less-sophisticated planet.

Greenleaf -- A civilized planet (or at least one with good medical facilities). It was also one of the first planets to be terraformed after the initial terra-forming of the core system. It has qutie some bigger cities and even a 'rich' population. There is Alliance control seen on this planet, as well as daily shipings from and to the core system. But as all border planets there are also large slum populations. One of the problems is that a lot of farmers moved to the city to find jobs after serveral years of dry spells and harsh weather, only to find themselves without a job.

Harvest -- Moon of Greenleaf that also took very well to terraforming too. Like Shadow it is a rural planet with only one larger city, further it's small towns scattered across the surface. There are many farms as it's not hard to farm here. Downside is that ground prices are higher then on most border planets due to it's good soil. Although prices seem to go down as for the second year there's been a dry spells.

Shadow -- Shadow was a prairie planet that took well to terraforming. It was known for its farms and ranches. The planet was almost entirely rural: no cities and only a few towns dotted the surface. The people of Shadow were hard workers and independent-minded. It was one of the first to stand against the Alliance. Most of the planet's young people volunteered to fight for Independence. Shadow was aggressively bombed during the war in an attempt to break the Browncoats & teach them a lesson; it had the opposite effect.
Today, Shadow is a ghost planet. No one lives there. No one can.

Heinlein -- Gas Giant

Higgin's Moon -- The moon on which Canton is located, Higgins Moon's main export is mud and other such ceramic building supplies. The magistrate appears to be among the richest of the population, the rest of the population are workers, known as mudders, working in the mud fields.

Triumph -- A primitive border planet (moon of Heinlein) where most of the civilised townships are still governed by fringe religious sects with some bizarre religious ceremonies, teachings and practices.

Salisbury -- Another primitive border moon of Heinlein. It's a dusty planet, but instead of it being hot, it's generally quite cold on the moon.

Beylix System (border system two)

Athens -- Border planet with at least four moons. It is a world known for rapidly changing weather and winds that blow constantly. Certain crops thrive here, and there's pleny of marble to be quarried. It is noted that all of its' four moons are terraformed.

Deadwood -- Moon of Athens, no further information at this moment.

Ita -- Moon of Athens, no further information at this moment.

Whitefall -- The fourth Athenian moon, a somewhat civilised planet. Most of which is run by a woman named Patience, who became mayor of one town there.

Beaumonde -- A wealthier, more civilized planet. A decent sort of planet, whose prime industries are factories and some ranches on the countryside. Cities on Beaumonde seem heavily populated and industrialized. New Dunsmuir is the capital of Beaumonde.
The city is the only on the moon that has no factories. Located on an ocean, New Dunsmuir is a popular tourist attraction.

Boros -- A civilized planet with a more strict Alliance presence than Persephone (due somewhat to its support of Independent forces during the Unification War). Boros is known for its' scrap metal industry. Much of the overstocks, castoffs and junk from Ares finds its way to Boros, much of which can be had for a decent price. Merchants appreciate the few landing restrictions on Boros.

Ares -- Ares, one of Boros' moons, is home to Alliance military shipyards. Up to five Alliance cruisers can be seen being constructed in orbit around Ares any given time -- these take about six years to complete. The Alliance presence here is as large as it gets outside the Core. And it's not a place you want to just fly into and land there.

Constance --moon of Boros, no further information at this moment

Angel -- Planet, no further information at this moment

Beylix -- Gas Giant

Ezra -- moon of Beylix, no further information at this moment.

Muir -- moon of Beylix, no further information at this moment.

Whittier -- moon of Beylix, no further information at this moment.

Paquin -- moon of Beylix, no further information at this moment.

Highgate System (border system three)

Highgate -- Gas Giant

Aquila -- Small planet near Alliance territory where most of the remaining japanese culture has settled. Although chinese culture has thrived, Japanese culture waned. In an attempt to save their culture the Japanese consolidated their people to a few small planets, Aquila being the capital. Nowadays Aquila is really the only planet left where Japanese culture thrives and it's hard to live there not being off Japanese decent. The capital of Aquila is Tengoku which is located near the top of the Dragonback Mountain Range. Once it was volcanic but now inactive and filled with a network of tunnels and caves from empty lava tubes. The only passage from the mainland to the west and the Ryuu Lake in the east is a narrow canyon called Sabu Pass that cuts through the middle of the mountains.

Dyton -- Dyton Colony is a border world made habitable and colonized through judicious use of convicts looking to reduce their prison sentences. Natives of Dyton can be identified fairly easily due to their notable - East End, London - accent. You could barely call it a civilized planet, and is for the large part rural with small towns scattered around.

Penal Moon -- Once Dyton was made habitable, the Penal Moon was opened by the Alliance. It's a moon convicts are sent to so they can begin to work off their sentence, like a state penitentiary. As Dyton, it's also a moon that is still in the terra-forming stages, although it's in an advanced state of the terraforming process. The moon is heavily gaurded by a grid of detection systems and gaurded by at least four Alliance ships (small ones though).

Jiangyin -- Another somewhat civilized planet, although it has some weird small towns located in forests and hills which are inhabited by extremely religious people. Those people are mostly not seen by the 'normal' folk who live on this planet. But people have been found to be missing, never to return. Some think the hill folk, as they are called, kidnap these people for whatever reason.

Regina -- Regina is known for its massive mining operations. The ore processors and atmospheric conditioners of Regina have created conditions for a disease called Bowden's Malady, a degenerative affliction of the bone and muscles that leaves victims weak and in constant pain. Regular treatments of Pasceline-D halts the progression of the disease.
The Alliance sponsors regular shipments of the drug to Regina, which depends on the shipments for continued prosperity.

Three Hills -- Moon of Regina, no further information at this moment.

Rim System

Verbena -- Due to the planet's heavy involvement in the Independents' side of the Unification War, Verbena is scarcely surviving, barely more than a piece of barren rock. Recently, the Alliance has been making an effort to show the population the error of their ways by leading them back into prosperity through government-funded improvements to the planet's economy.

Newhall -- The planet of Newhall has been opened two years ago for standard colonization after the most important terra-forming stuff had been done. But just like any other frontier planet, the terra-forming hasn't changed the once small dead planet into a lush world. It's a dusty, desert like world, where only 20% of the surface consists of ocean/lakes, not much I would say.

More info here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/Out_In_The_Black/topic/365606

Lilac -- Lilac is a planet that has to employ private security firms to protect it. It is the only planet on the Rim that holds the official Alliance bank for this system. (more information needed...)

Silverhold: -- Planet, no further information at this moment

Aberdeen -- Gas Giant

Haven -- Haven is a moon of Aberdeen which was the site of a small mining outpost of some type. For a price, the local inhabitants were willing to provide shelter and the chance for a new beginning for those wishing to remain under the Alliance's radar. The outpost was destroyed by unknown reasons, but this shortly happened before the Miranda message was broadcasted. There are however other small communities who do the same. It's not a rich planet, but at least the inhabitants are welcoming to those who seek a place to hide.

St. Albans -- It's pretty much an ice world, where the temperature rarely goes above zero, snow is seen for much of the year. There's a Fed Station here. The inhabitable parts lie around the equator, if you go up north or down south you'll find yourself in massive mountains, ice and snow and freezing tempratures. Why it is so cold is pretty easy, the largest part of the year Aberdeen is infront of the sun as St. Albans resolves quite weirdly around the big Gas Giant.

Miranda -- At one time Miranda possessed an infrastructure as large and as thriving as anything to be found on a central planet. However, the intentions of the Alliance with this planet weren't all good. Or at least they had their own plans with the inhabitants of Miranda. The whole population became guinea pigs for a chemical known as 'The Pax' which was intended to calm the population and weed out aggression. For the vast majority of Miranda's unfortunate inhabitants, the Pax worked only too well, and millions of people stopped fighting, stopped with petty disputes and then they stopped doing everything else, including stay alive.

However some survived, but the consequences for them were even more horrific. They suffered a reaction to the Pax which was the exact opposite of the intended effect. They became raging, homicidal maniacs who engaged in cannibalism, self-mutilation and torture. In other words, Reavers.

After this, Miranda became a forgotten, inaccessible ghost planet. As in the space around the planet Reavers made their territory, no one dared to come too close when word about Reavers got out. Miranda was considered to be a black rock by the Alliance, and this how it was displayed on all the maps.

But only two months ago word came out what happened on Miranda. A message was found on Miranda by a young women, a scientist, who survived the pax and told what had happend. This message has been broadcasted all throughout the verse on every frequency.
