Information Update, August 3rd, 2008. "Paramount's "Dune" Release Most of the information is already out there, but here you can read the words directly. FRANK HERBERT'S CLASSIC SCI-FI NOVEL "DUNE" SET FOR BIG SCREEN ADAPTATION BY PARAMOUNT PICTURES HOLLYWOOD, CA June 18, 2008 Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel, "Dune," will be brought to the screen by Paramount Pictures, Misher Films, New Amsterdam Entertainment and Film 44, with Peter Berg ("Hancock," "Friday Night Lights") directing and Richard P. Rubinstein, Kevin Misher and Sarah Aubrey producing. The screenplay, currently being written by Joshua Zetumer, will be a faithful adaptation of the novel. Michael D. Messina and John Harrison will serve as executive producers. Frank Herbert's son, Brian Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson, who have co-written all of the "Dune" novels since Frank Herbert's original series, will co-produce. Regarded as one of the most esteemed science fiction novels ever written, "Dune," the first of Herbert's famed series, is further distinguished as the genre's premier best-seller. Published in 1965, it won both the Hugo and Nebula Award for Best Novel. Set in the distant future, it is the story of Paul Atreides and his family, who relocate to the desert planet Arrakis, the sole source of mélange (a.k.a. "Spice"), the most valuable substance in the universe. A struggle between the Emperor's royal families for control of Spice production leads to a global confrontation destined to change the future of mankind. About Paramount Pictures Corporation Paramount Pictures Corporation (PPC), a global producer and distributor of filmed entertainment, is a unit of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), a leading content company with prominent and respected film, television and digital entertainment brands.
