The next gen wars have been going on for a year and a few monthes now, so I decided it needed its own topic. This topic will be updated in the days, weeks, and monthes to come with info on the current status of the war. Please discuss what you think will happen, what you want to happen, and any info you know is TRUE on the subject. Here is a great website that has updates on sales and information on the consoles everday. nexgenwars.com Some posting rules for this special topic: If you post false info such as... "the PS3 has sold over 100000000000000 units and has the game SSBB for it." I will warn you. Also please don't post things like... "lulz1111&^#%$!(&!!! m4j0rz l33t h4x sk1llz ftW!1!1!^@*& Liek, W1i 1S ftw!!!! It pwnz0rz y0u5!!!111 And liek, Falco pl4y3rs sh1n3 liek ligh7s 0n stuff, cuz F4lco h4z a ShIn3!!!! lolzzzz omfgaksjdbfm blah : y3ahz!!!@$@&" Seriously, I hate that crap. If you do it, I'll warn you, okay. I don't think I'll see a case that severe but please, refrain urges. Finally, this is not about video games, so it belongs in the technology section. It is fine to use video games in your arguement, and I encourage it, but this is also about hardware, so keep everything in mind and support both in your statement for a solid arguement. I hope we can have intelligent discussion and debate, and argue points you make or people won't take them seriously. Let's begin. Edited by The Fasian, Mar 18 2008, 09:03 PM.

I planned on making this topic a long time ago but never did. But shouldn’t this go in video games? This is how I see it: I have played all three of them enough to see what they can do and what the really do. I like all three developers so no biasedness (real word?). I will start with the Wii. The Wii is most likely the most easily to pick up and play. It also gets bonus points for having motion sensors. But this is the major flaw with it...... Why does it only have 4-6 Good games for it? I mean this technology should be a playground for developers. But instead we get a bunch of shit games by third party. I seem to me the only ones that can make any good games for it are Nintendo its self. Also the online is the worst thing I have ever seen. Some might say "But it's free" that’s true but it is still crap. There is no online ranking, score keeping or anything. You can’t really connect with anyone unless you give out some BS friend code. Most of the channels are lame, the worst one is the Wii shop channel, hasn’t anyone heard of emulation? Why would I pay 5-12 dollars for a game I can get for free? They didn’t even make the old games online. I am not saying the Wii is a bad system, it is very good but if you’re anymore than a casual gamer you really don't want a Wii. The Wii is more of a family device than a gamer’s device. This is all coming from a Nintendo Fan. Break Down of Good Games: 1. Brawl 2. Mario Galaxy 3. Metriod (sp?) 4. Bully SE 5. Guitar hero 3 Now on to the PS3: I had high hope for the PS3, but so far there are only a few games that are good on it. It has amazing features, beautiful graphics, and pretty easy to pick up. The online is ok, not bad but not great. Plays Blue Ray.... That’s a nice touch. All it really needs is good games it has some but not enough, easy menu (PSPs). Could be great if it had games. Good Games: 1. Call of Duty 4 2. Guitar hero 3 3. Kill zone 4. Restiance; fall of man 5. Rock Band Finally the 360: I personally believe that the 360 is the best of the three. It has had the games of the year three times. The online is an amazing beyond belief. You can add anyone as a friend play with them any time. Private Chats is basely like talking on the phone. Achievements give ore of a reason to play A GREAT ranking system. Market place where you can download, games, avatars, themes, movies, TV shows, videos, and so much more. And every XBLA game has achievements, online play (Example Bomerman), and so much more. Good graphics. You can even make your own profile. There are two kinds of accounts Silver: Can do everything but play games online Gold: Can do everything. The online is only $8 a month. You can customize so much and make it your own. Custom sound tracks are a plus. I can plug in my MP3 player and listen to it no matter what I am playing. If you have CDs you can rip your music to the hard Drive. It’s amazing and you won’t understand till you play it. And it is very user friendly. Good Games: 1. Call of Duty 4 2. Bio Shock 3. Halo 3 4. Rock Band 5. Guitar Hero 3 6. Assians Creed 7. Katmari Demcy (sp) And so much more. My View: 1. Xbox 360 2. Wii 3. PS3 My spell checker sucked sorry if somethings sound weird. |

A Sony Playsation 3 won't be worthwhile to own at least until 2009. It doesn't have enough good exclusive games, and the price is too high to make it a worthwhile gaming console to buy - last place worldwide. As far as the Microsoft Xbox 360 goes, it is a nice solid system to own. It is truly the best as far as online-console gaming goes, and has many great hits that appeal to American gamers in particular - First place in America, second place worldwide. Now then, the Nintendo Wii is currently the best selling system worldwide. It has a great variety of games that can appeal to any gamer. With new releases such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, and so on, it will be nice competition for the Xbox 360, even in America - second place in America, first place worldwide. |

However, only because a system sells the most does not mean it is the highest quality. Wii received so much sales because it appealed to the broadest audiences, whole families. That means people who are not familiar with video games will be buying the Wii. That gives game developers an easier time at designing their games, thus resulting in many bad third party games that, in a game sense, is terrible. But to the uneducated gamer, like parents, they would seem like good games. |

It is true that there are plenty of poorly developed third party games on the Wii. However, there are also very good first and third party developed games that more than compensate for this. Some of the more popular titles are Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. While obscure titles include No More Heroes and Battalion Wars 2. All of which can be considered hardcore games. Also, what you said isn't necessarily bad. The casual gamers could start with playing poor titles thinking they are good, and then eventually move into the more hardcore games and become a full fledged gamer. So the entire business ends up profiting from this. It isn't like the Nintendo Wii is just for the casual gamers. They have instead kept the hardcore franchises going while opening up opportunities to those who have never played. now then, as far the hardware itself goes, the Wii is certainly lacking. The main memory of the console can only hold up to 88 Megabytes, 24 internal, 64 external. I would have gladly paid extra for a better hard drive, had they have had the same option the Xbox 360 did. The only thing that remedies this are the pricey two gigabyte SD cards that you can buy for the console. |
