After many years of faithfull service the old '68 20hp merc bite the dust. Regrettfully it was from a mistake my Dad made. When mixing the fuel and oil he somehow managed to put 4stroke marine oil in instead of 2stroke. Needless to say the old girl didn't like it. When I realized what had happened, I saw the oil bottle in the back of the boat, it was too late. So off we went searching for a new motor. Dad didn't want anything huge and we couldn't afford a 4stroke big enough that still offered the same performance. We ended up getting a 15hp 2stroke Yamaha. I must say I'm really impressed with this motor, we only got 2 months use out of it but man what a difference. So much quieter, less vibration, less odurs. Sure not as quiet and smoth as a 4stroke but we are really happy with our choice. Still seems strange thou without the old merc on the back. I kept the front name plate off the old girl and will be mounting it onto the transem. |

ya i've got a 9.9hp merc 2 stroke and it's nice and quiet. My step dad has a 15hp 4 stroke honda and i can't even count how many times he's hit the starter button while it was still running |

that is a nice motor bigugly, don't do a mistake that some pepole do and buy a 4 stroke thinking it will run smoother cause some of them don't, some of them are louder and noisier then the 2 stroke |

My Yamaha 4 stroke was as quiet as you would want it to be, when trolling the only way I knew it was running was the fact we were moving forward.

That's unfortunate. I just about made the same mistake. When pouring the oil I noticed the colour was different. |
