We left LOW to go Caribou hunting north of Yellowknife. Our plane couldn't take us in to camp because of weather so a fishing guide was recommended to us for Northerns on Great Slave Lake. This Lake is the 9th largest Lake in North America. Totally pristine, you can dring the water straight, unmapped, rocky etc..... Carlos (our guide) picked us up in a 20 foot Alaskan Lund, with no electronics, and we zoomed off into the rockiest shore line I have ever seen. I got a Northern on the first cast, and it went crazy from there, before it was over we (Butch and I) had caught 74 Northerns. Very few under 30 inches, maybe 6. Eight over 40 inches and had an incredible time. Crazy. My first 40+ incher. ![]() Butch's 44+ incher. ![]() We even stopped for a shore lunch. I couldn't even open my hand I was so tired. ![]() ![]() Then we went back for more. If you think it can't get any more exciting, Butch and I caught two 45" + Northerns at the same time. Carlos said it had never been done. What were the odds. ![]() The weather was lousy as you can see, but I think it really helped the fishing, Carlos said he had gone out three days before and had to hunt for fish. The water was so clear we could see the strikes close to the boat, and even pulled the hook out of the gaping mouth of the smaller ones. This was truly the fishing of a lifetime. |
