Here's how to make floating jigs, it's really easy. All you need is a small single or treble hook, a few spilt shots and some good ol' ear plugs. Ear plugs float, they also come in a bunch of different colours, yellow and green are my favorites. Simply slide your hook through the ear plug as you would with a twister. Put a few split shots at about 10 to 12" away from your hook and you've got yourself a floating jig.

My gramps taught me that trick and I've caught alot of walleye in the river back home that way. Cheap plus they work awesome.. :fishing1:

good tip buddy, but you can get more use out of them while fishing, if you tired of hearing your buddy complain that he isn't catching any fish, simply reverse the procedure of making them [by removing the hook and split shot] so you can use them, simply insert in ear and voila, peace and quiet.

Good tip, people use them at the rod and gun club and then toss them after shooting. I will have to start picking them up. They do look like small marshmellows(sp).

make sure you pick up the ones without a coat of WAX 4ST EYES, they might shine too much lol. :beercheer:

Trouble is they probably all have some sort of wax on them, like ear wax. One thing that will likely help is to soak them in fish attractant. They should soak it up quite well. Never used the stuff before but it makes sense.

This does work really well - you can get proper floating jig hooks that will not wiegh it down as much and it will float better.
We used to cut an orange one into a ball shape and feed it onto our hooks for rainbow - works well
Good stuff for a survival kit too as the earplugs squash down and are compact
