TIME FOR A COMMENT FROM TROLLER . JUST RETURNED FROM A WEEK OF FISHING ON CROWN LAND NORTHEAST OF ELLIOT LAKE . BY THE TIME WE DRIVE FROM COLLINGWOOD AND GET INTO THE LAKE , IT'S ABOUT AN EIGHT HOUR TRIP FOR US . THIS PIECE OF PARADISE IS USUALLY QUIET AND CLEAN AS REMOTE LAKES SHOULD BE . THIS YEAR WE WHERE GREETED BY GARBAGE FROM LAST FALL OR OVER THE WINTER . SHARING THE LAKE WITH OTHERS WAS ALSO A NEW EXPERIENCE . A NEARBY LODGE OWNER IS SENDING ICE FISHERMEN IN BY SNOWMOBILE TO ICEFISH TELLING THEM THEY WILL CATCH THEIR LIMIT . ATV EXCURSIONS WILL BE REGULAR VISITORS THE REST OF THE YEAR FROM THIS SAME LODGE . HE IS LEAVING BOATS AT THE LAKES FOR THEIR USE . THE MAJORITY OF FISH WE SAW THESE PEOPLE KEEPING WERE LITTLE MORE THAN MINNOWS . MY GROUP IS MORE SELECTIVE ON WHAT WE KEEP FOR A SHORE LUNCH SO WE CAN ENJOY THE FISHING FOR YEARS TO COME . WE ALSO LEAVE THE LAND AS WE FIND IT AND REMOVE ALL GARBAGE WE HAVE CREATED OVER THE WEEK EACH YEAR . I AM SURE THAT ALL OTHER MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM ARE JUST AS RESPONSIBLE . HERE'S MY BIG BEEF . I BELIEVE THE LODGE OWNER IS NOT TELLING HIS GUESTS TO BE SELECTIVE ON WHAT THEY KEEP . SMALL FISH OR LARGE FISH SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE WATER TO INSURE FUTURE GENERATIONS CAN ENJOY WHAT WE HAVE ENJOYED FOR YEARS . A LOT OF THESE INDIVIDUALS ALSO APPEAR TO BE LEAVING TOO MANY "FOOTPRINTS" IN THE LAND IN THE FORM OF CUT TREES FOR FIRES AND RUTS FROM MAKING THEIR OWN TRAILS . PLENTY OF DEADFALL IS AVAILABLE FOR WOOD AND NUMEROUS TRAILS DON'T REQUIRE BUDDY TO MAKE HIS OWN TWENTY FEET FROM A WELL MARKED ,SOLID TRAIL . IF THIS MAN IS MAKING A GOOD LIVING OFF THESE CROWN LAKES , I BELIEVE HE SHOULD BE STOCKING AND EDUCATING AS WELL . I DON'T POST COMMENTS VERY OFTEN BUT THIS TYPE OF MISUSE GETS MY OLD BLOOD BOILING . IT"S NOT THE SHARING I OBJECT TO , IT'S CROWN LAND AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY . IT'S THE MISUSE BY UNEDUCATED FOLKS WHO ARE LET OUT TO RUN LOOSE FROM A LODGE WITH NO SUPERVISION . WHAT IS THIS BEAUTIFUL AREA GOING TO LOOK LIKE IN FIVE OR TEN YEARS IF THINGS REMAIN UNCHECKED . I NOTICED A LOT OF NEGATIVE CHANGES THIS YEAR AND IT IS JUST THE START OF THINGS TO COME . |

Sad situation. There are laws in place to keep people from littering. Maybe a kind conversation with the lodge owner to express your concerns would be one way to approach the situation. Did you take any pictures if so email them off to the lodge owner. |

I would phone the local conservation offier and tell him what u told us and let him have a talk with the lodge owner, huge fines for littering oon crown land, and I beleive someone who has guests is responsible for there guests. |

Yes the M.N.R. takes care of crown land it is unlawfull to alter crown land in any way without a permit. You can not take stones, move stones, make trails, cut trees, break branches, clear a spot for camp sites, change shore line in any way[including the moving of logs or stones] dig trees or plants, erect any type of permenent structure the list goes on. Take pictures of any offence you see they can and will be used to convict offenders. I am sorry that your trip was marred by offenders, my trip was also marred by a run in with poachers, but you should get used to seeing more people there are very few secluded places left if you find one tell no one and enjoy it for as long as you can. |

All kinds of people out there, it's just unfortunate that honest people have to pay for their mistakes.... |
