I can't wait untill ice out on superior. There is a little cove that is full of weeds and one of my buddies says you just slam the big ones early spring. Pike have to be my most favorite fish to catch. The best pike fishing I do is five minutes from my door on the shores of Thunder Bay. The kids can play in the park and I can land 10 pound pike. |

Now that is sweet. I used to catch some big pike many moons ago in Superior around Terrace Bay. Below the Dam and at the mouth of the aguasuaban (sp) River close to the golf course. The biggest pike I ever had on was in a Lake Superior tributary. I didn't quite land it and ended up with a tetnus shot in the butt for my troubles....

I love it too I look for mud bottom shallow bays that warm up faster than the rest of the lake and marinas and that is where they will be, great chance at a lunker while they are out of the depths.

Man we got some seriously good big pike lakes around Marathon that rarely get fished. Like was mentioned, those south facing back bays with darker muddy bottoms or any area that is warming up fast attract late ice/ice out pike. I have friends that have caught multiple slime rockets in the 20-30lb range on a single outing in the right areas.

Fishing the north shore of lake huron is similar. At the mouth of tributaries are a good place to start. I have also heard of people netting them while smelt netting. Wouldn't that be a surprise. |

man thats one of the best time to go out and fish monster pike, just after the ice is out along the shore line or bays that the water warms up faster, i have a small lake that i go too and when you get their look very close at the shore line and most time you can spot them sitting their cause of their back top fin sticking out of the water, then go and get them is a blast. |
