William hadn't met this particular marine in a while now, what with them both getting busy captaining their crews to glory and all that. Eve Senba was one of few marines William knew that he actually wanted to meet again, and not just because she's a trusted long time friend of his crewmate Unca, though that definitely helped get them acquainted at first. Eve was pretty cool all on her own, and it seemed like the world was finally recognizing that and giving her what she deserved. But most importantly, she also happened to have one of the strongest and coolest devil fruit powers William had crossed path with so far, and she had left Las Arcadas last time they met before Braidbeard could fight her. Something about escorting Arcadia to Impel Down.

"It's no use Eve, we're going to train together today. You're not giving me the slip again. I'm not having any of it." William transformed into his impressively sized hybrid form as he said this. He was intent on starting the sparring session now rather than later. Drawing his sword, he added: “Let’s get started.”

There were an awful lot of birds in Eve's life. There was nothing inherently wrong with birds; on the contrary, she had a strong and, she liked to think, mutually warm relationship with the specific birds in question. The number of birds and the presence of birds was not the problem. The problem was that one was flapping very about directly between her and the sun which she was at least trying to soak up. The beach was all but deserted apart from them, one of the many remote and largely uninhibited islands spread across the lengths of the Grandline. A perfect place for a holiday, a nightmare to be shipwrecked on. Eve, fortunately, was there on the former, and her meeting with one William B. Salty was a reality born of the power of sheer coincidence. She had herself a lounger, a large parasol, and a small table holding a dripping glass of ice cold whisky retrieved from a cooler lounging the golden sand beside her.

She was only dressed in a white tank top and cargo shorts, her Marine uniform far, far away for a change. Shichibukai and the minions of Yonko took their toll, and she was taking a well deserved break. Only her rifle remained as the only reminder of her professional life, propped up against the back of her chair. "Fairly certain threatening a Marine officer with violence is a surefire way to getting a free pair of shackles and some board." She flipped down her sunglasses to meet William eye to eye, a tired but all the same bemused air to them. "But, I suppose in your case you get some exceptions." Her arms rose above her head and she stretched out and yawned, long and with more than a few pops of tightly knotted muscle. "Consider this a few corrupt favors, but," she began to warn him, before downing the last of her whisky, "you're buying the next few rounds. And they're going to be premium, you hear?" She slammed the glass down and the few ice cubes that hadn't melted jingled about. She smacked her lips happily at the smoke swilling down into her gut, then turned to note William's drawn blade. He was apparently serious about the matter. Not deadly serious, but as close as one could get with a weapon as sharp as that one. If that was how he wanted to do, she supposed she could play along. And, if it turned out he wasn't quite looking to be made into a punching bag, well, no doubt he probably deserved it for the torture of some poor crewmate with his relentless jokes. A sheen of wiry blue shone over her emerald eyes. "Now, since you've made the first move..."

There was a crack of thunder and suddenly Eve was no longer on the lounger, but instead on William's left, her fist an inch from the side of his head and in no way decelerating.

"Can you manage to put the chackles on me though?!" William was fairly confident in his own resolve never to be shackled, even as a joke. Though the deeply layered psychological reasons behind that were the farthest away from his mind right this moment. He had his blood pumping for a fight, and it seemed like Eve wasn't going to be as lazy as her current circumstance suggests.

He wondered what kind of new moves she was going to show him. "Premium it is, but only if you bring your 'A' game, of course."

"Woah..." In his precipitation to get Eve moving, he had not at all accounted for the fact that she was pretty much the fastest fighter he knew. And to his surprise, he thought she had somehow gotten faster?! His guard was still wide open from all the joking around, so he resorted to doing the exact same thing she did, almost by instinct, though in an entirely different fashion, as he was not made of lightning himself. He barely had time to soru a yard or two, but he tried to place himself to her side, making it harder, at least for a normal person, to bring around their momentum and attack again immediately.

Using his feet for support and his wings for propulsion, he followed up by bouncing back towards her assumed position and swinging his seastone infused Rapier in her direction in a wide sweeping diagonal motion, to cover as much space as possible. Admitedly, William was not in the most confortable position not being able to locate his opponent perfectly, but it wouldn't be much of a sparring session if he was completely in his element now, would it?

There was not much else to do except roll her eyes. "I really hope that wasn't meant to be some form of innuendo, because then I would need to smack you for real." She span with her fist as her recipient disappeared from the impact before it could land, moved with the momentum and recovered. "You know what's nice about having a bit if authority? I don't get that crap anymore. Folks too scared they'll slip and end up having to watch their backs when they go for the soap. Still..." Again she vanished, splitting into a pair of streams that flowed around the edge of Artemis and coalesced around the back of her vacated chair. She casually scooped up her rifle and checked the chamber for bullets, though it was a redundant move made more for show than anything; Eve was acutely aware of how many rounds the weapon carried at any one particular time, and could tell by weight if not by memory. The hammer clacked into place, and Eve looked up to William. "...I can't really be bringing my A game if its only a B tier party, now can I?"

It probably was a good thing that the island was all but deserted. Eve knew well and good that neither of them had really gotten all that serious, but when and if they did, then that was potentially going to be some collateral. Any peace loving native or holiday goer probably wouldn't appreciate the trees being uprooted or the beach being blasted into craters reminiscent of some of the landings during the Yonko war. Both of them could exercise restraint, the question was whether they wanted to and for exactly how long.

Eve probably wasn't helping when she lifted her rifle up to point at William. "Your all metal and such, aren't you? So, you won't mind if I ping a few practice shots your way?" She didn't wait for an answer, and began to spray. A 'few' was something of an understatement, and Eve unleashed all twenty cartridges in a buckshot like spray of lead that whizzed and bounced around off the ground and air alike.

"Innuen-what?" William scratched his head, wondering what she meant. He was sure he'd heard that word before somewhere, but his sexually innexperienced bookish mind could not possibly understand what part of what he said could be considered innuendo.

"Well, anyway, back to our muttons." he said as he braced for her next attack. This time, she was nice and gave him time time to see what she was doing. Though it was still rather hard to keep up with her technique. William attempted to deflect most of the bullets with his sword, and he was proud to be able to fend off the first couple of dozens, yet as shots started to bounce around from all directions around him, he was forced to let his armor do some of the work, and soon there was too much electricity coursing through his body for him to continue his parry properly. It turns out his armor provided very little defense against electricity, if any at all.

Damn, it's like her power is designed to trump mine. Fast as lightning... I can't block her with my sword or armor properly... can't hit her lightning body... why did I challenge her to a sparring session again?! William started to feel the heat coming as he found himself cornered with very few options. His only hope was to land some good hits with his Rapier, but how to do that was trickier than anticipated.

"Try dodging this one!!!" He flew forward as fast as he could, and that was extremely fast. If she relied so much on her element's natural afinity for speed, chances were, her normal mobility wasn't trained enough. He just had to confuse her attempt to dodge his next attack: a very unorthodox rapier thrust was aimed at her torso, delivered with the same uncompromising urgency as his charge. William hit his sword arm in the right spot as he stabbed forward, making it wiggle uncontrollably out of sync. As even he was completely unable to predict the course of his own sword with precision, he doubted Eve would come out unscathed of this one.

"I'm struggling to believe that you of all people are that innocent!" A self-proclaimed prankster like William? The man needed a book of adult themed jokes for his birthday, or at the very least a serious kick back to school so he could be shown how to handle a banana while the rest of the class tried not to suffocate from laughter. When, of course, they weren't too busy cutting each other to ribbons with an unrestrained arsenal of weapons all in the name of friendly competition. He handled her barrage of attacks like a champ, deftly maneuvering through and swatting the vast majority of them away like flies with especially potent bites, and bore the brunt of the handful that did manage to nip with admirable tenacity.

Putting him constantly on the defensive would be poor sport, however. She could have potentially applied more pressure, but as sharp and loaded as their weapons may have been, she doubted there was any real desire to properly harm the other. As far as she knew, William's only way of actually accomplishing that was with his blade, laced as it was with that old friend of her kind, seastone. She could take a few cuts here and there though.

"It's not all about the footwork, William. Who said anything about dodging?" Eve certainly hadn't, and she made little to not effort to do so. Rather, she sidestepped, not so much to avoid the thrust entirely, but so that it would pass across her stomach in a clean, small spray of red rather than skewer her entirely. The feeling of seastone always put her teeth on edge, and it was perhaps worse than the sharp fire pressing across her abdomen, but she powered through, teeth grit, all the same, and was in a fine position as her reward. "Now I want you to check out these guns," she spat.

Dropping her rifle and letting it go into free fall, she reached out to grab at William by the shoulder to clamp powerful fingers down and keep him in place, then ducked low, near the extended sword, clenched her other fist, and in a sudden snap of movement brought it springing up like a freshly tapped geyser smashing through the earth, with all the force to laugh in the face of all the metallic feathers and down hiding William's more vulnerable fleshy parts away from the world.
