"Tela Flairs? Gotcha"

Scarlett took note of this name in her notebook, noting down besides it that she seemed more likely to be being stitched up for this. Her notes would lead her down various different routes, and until she had a little more information she wasn't confident she could figure much out. As for Decca having already had dinner... She felt a little bad for Chrys, he must feel so disappointed right now. Realising that she herself was hungry made her turn a tad red, realising that would imply just the two of them would go for food. She quickly turned to face away from the other two, as she gathered her thoughts. After a heavy, tired sigh she opted for:

"Uhm, this is going to be awkward but do you mind pointing us in the direction of somewhere we can buy some food. We'll pick some up and then be straight over towards the Cactithedral. It'll give me some time to think things over"

And to talk things over with Chrys. Perhaps he'd have some different perspective of this case now. That and she coudl continue to feed him the 'This is a date' bait, which seemed to have derailed slightly. She had a feeling she was missing something but she couldn't quite place it. Maybe she was just feeling a little ill still, it had been a rough day after all. And yet... This was just the start. The start of something big. The start of her investigation! Suddenly something coming to mind, she scanned the room for any form of technology, perhaps rather basic unlike some of the stuff the marines had access to. Nothing particulalrly standing out here, which was a good sign. She'd make sure to keep an eye out.

"And... Thankyou for your help and advice so far. Don't you worry, we'll be working hard until we can uncover the truth behind all of this. But I have to ask, speaking out against those that seek to bring some form of harm to the island or its inhabitants. Does that not scare you?"

“Well, we can see about getting you some food from the kitchens in the Cactihedral. They should be happy to feed you.” Decca began to speak, answering the questions in the order they were presented. “As for speaking out? I don’t think you understand something. We are a priesthood that honors the dead. To die doing good things would be an honor – though I do not think I will die. Most likely, this is a power hungry individual hoping to seize control in this political vacuum. Besides, my subordinates – my friends – have gone missing during all of this. If they have died, then I need to find them to give them a proper burial.”

Chrysoara listened and felt that her reasons seemed honest. She seemed to make adequate eye contact with the Commander while she spoke – which was a sign of honesty. More than that, they just felt like honest words – which was something that Chrysoara was struggling with. Trusting someone but not knowing why. He didn’t do that very often.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some matters to attend to upstairs before I go to the Cactihedral. I’ll meet you there once you are done eating!” Decca said as she got up from the table. Chrysoara got up as well – curious what she was going to do and, since he was still in date mode, wondering if she was going to freshen up a little bit. Chrysoara allowed himself to be led out of the house.

Once the door was shut, Chrysoara would begin to walk towards the Cactihedral – lost in thought. He was stuck thinking about everything that happened during that meeting. He may still be drunk - he wasn’t sure but it was likely he was still feeling some of the effects – but that didn’t feel like a date. In fact, it felt wholly like an investigation interview.

“Commander, perhaps you can explain this to me. Why didn’t that feel like a date? She ate beforehand. She talked primarily to you, even though I was the one she had met and invited over. The conversation stayed on the topic of the case. This doesn’t sound very much like a date to me and I believe that I have just made a fool of myself. Perhaps I am still under the influence and misinterpreting information – I do not know. However, this felt like an interview for the investigation to me.” Chrysoara spoke, focusing primarily on his concerns before moving the topic onto that of what they had learned – though he was careful not to speak too loudly regarding the content of the interview. “Second, this should be a good opportunity. Investigating the last known whereabouts – and maybe the room and some frequently visited locations – of a recent kidnapping victim is bound to give us some information. Maybe we will learn more about these New Age Priests.”

Very quiet footsteps sounded as they ran across the floor of the deck. They were quiet, but Agnew heard them anyway. He was listening for them.

Yes. His superiors would free him. The marines were fools if they thought to keep him captured here. Absolute and utter fools.

“Agnew, it has been a pleasure to work with you.” A feminine voice said from the shadows. Agnew squinted. He recognized the voice as one of his coworkers – both in the New Age Priests and out. She was a woman with some influence – if only he could see where exactly she was.

A dart flew through the air and landed in Agnew’s throat. He gasped, feeling the poison spread from the tip of the dart and into his body. Foam began to rise from the priest’s mouth as his body began to spasm. He fell off the couch and onto the floor as he spasmed. One last jerk and the man lay still – never to move again.

The woman quickly ran off the ship – moving with speed and silence. She was wearing all black and no one had seen her enter, nor would they see her leave. She was too careful for that.

There was a respectable fearlessness to Decca which had Scarlett a little bit curious. Something was a little odd though, most notably the fact that she jumped straight to the conclusion of death, and her confidence in her survival. Whilst on one hand she had a point, there was something unique about this girl. It was most certainly something to watch out for she supposed. The group stood up and moved over to the door, with the two marines being left alone as the Priest presumably headed upstairs to do whatever it was she had planned. That was when Chrys began to speak about how he felt, though she was only half paying attention. Instead, her eyes were trained on the upstairs of the house from the outside, trying to listen out for anything that might occur. After she was content with her analysis she turned back towards her colleague.

"Oh, yeah... Uhm... I don't really know how to explain this to you Chrys..."

She trailed off, deciding to build this up a bit. It totally wasn't mean, she just knew that it would provide more entertainment for her. No, it wasn't sadistic! That would be building him up only to tell him that his pet goldfish had drowned or something. Wait... Did he have a pet goldfish? Now she really was curious. Would that be like having a slave to a fishman? So many questions, but she continued what she was saying anyway.

"Women are confusing, like, really confusing. They're even more confusing when things get romantic. But when you think about it, wouldn't you say she was talking about something she was dedicated to? Something she was truly interested in? Well, I'll bet that she wouldn't be willing to discuss that with just anyone. She was talking about all that because she was pouring her heart out, opening up to you. The reason she spoke to me would be nervousness. Couldn't you tell her slight timidness? Don't worry, this is all a learning experience for you"

After unloading another excessive amount of bullshit, Scarlett moved onto thinking about the next point he made. Perhaps he hadn't quite realised what was going on here, but currently she was fairly confident that the person that had gone missing today was in fact the person that had ended up on their ship, most likely still snugly sat on the sofa and complaining about politics or something. Maybe they should have shoved him in a cupboard or something... Nah, it'd be fine. Lowering her voice she leant in and spoke to Chrys.

"Uhm... You know that Agnew Respite that went missing? I have we might know him. Looking through his stuff sounds like a pretty solid plan if you ask me, we'll be able to gather some more information."

She paused. Judging by the groups name mixed with the stuff she'd seen, 'New Age' referred to their interesting in technology, which is why she'd looked for it in Decca's just in case, as well as tried to figure out what she might be doing upstairs from the outside. Now her mind turned to the food given out at the Cactithedral. Showing her face there could complicate things... She'd need to figure out a way around that.

"I'm not really feeling some charity kitchen slop I've got to be honest. Plus I doubt they'll particularly want to serve some first day drop out to their cause. Ugh, I could have gone about things a lot better I'll be honest. The worst part of all of this is that if we want information... I know just the place. I really don't want to go back down there though..."

Decca made her way up the stairs and lit a candle on a table. The light would be able to be seen from the outside if one chose to stair at the window. The candle sat on a plain dresser, but it wasn’t the dresser that attracted Decca’s attention. Instead, it was a picture of a man in priests robes. He had a balding head and the same prominent nose that Decca herself had. That was one of the only similarities that he shared with Decca, despite the fact that they were siblings. A tear fell down from her face and she sobbed as she thought about her late brother.

“The New Age Priests. It seems I was right to call the marines in when these disappearances began.” Decca mumbled to herself. She had lied when she said she had never heard of them before. She didn’t want to make them think she was more involved than she was. No, she had heard of them once before when her brother had died. After his death, she had only found one piece of paper letting Decca know why her brother was in Fudo Saiken’s path. It only contained Fudo Saiken’s name and the name of the New Age Priests. Nothing more. Decca still wasn’t sure how they were involved -but this couldn’t be a coincidence.

Chrysoara was no longer drunk. He decided that he wasn’t at least. He listened to his Commander talk to him about women being confusing – especially when things got romantic. She was right, in that everything was especially confusing whenever romance was brought into the equation. Romance wasn’t logical – after-all. However, she was wrong in a key area or three. Namely, she was wrong everywhere and Chrysoara could understand that now. She talked about the case but Chrys wouldn’t have said she was particularly dedicated to the case. This was something she wanted to stop but it seemed to be a more recent situation. Wouldn’t a string of kidnappings be a normal thing to discuss. It would be more abnormal if she didn’t want to discuss the case. In fact, Chrysoara would probably suspect that she was involved in some way with kidnappings if she had chosen to completely ignore them. If she were opening her heart up, then she would have discussed why she was a priestess or something along those lines. Discussing the caser hardly qualified. She also didn’t seem timid in the slightest. In fact, she seemed to be excited to talk. Well, Chrysoara had to admit that she wasn’t wrong in everything. Romance was a learning experience for Chrysoara.

He could feel his heart flutter when he thought about the Priestess. Not only that, but he had a sense of elation at the thought. Seeing her made him happy and he wanted to see her again. Why? Was this the start of liking someone? Well, at least Chrysoara wasn’t liking someone completely off limits like Sasa Dion this time.

“We might know him? Do you mean that he went missing because we kidnapped him?” Chrysoara asked, thinking about the implications laden in that statement. If they had kidnapped this man, then investigating his room and last known whereabouts would give them a completely distinct set of information than they were looking for – though it would still be useful. The Commander changed the topic to the food and Chrysoara stopped listening a little bit. “What place is that Commander? We could check out the room of this Agnew and his last known location then head back to the ship. If we find any information, then we can ask him about it ourselves. I do have some food on the ship we could eat on my ship. It’d be too long of a walk to go back to and then come back to the Cactihedral, I think, but it would be good if we can hold off eating until we are done with this part of the investigation.”

"I have a feeling that might be it. They'd have noticed he was missing by now, and so if they were separate surely two people would have disappeared. Not only that but I remember him referring to himself as a fairly important priest, but a fairly low standing member of the New Age Priests"

She continued to speak in a hushed tone. Upstairs in Decca's house there was a slight flickering of light, meaning whatever she was doing probably involved a candle. That seemed to imply a lack of technology too? She was still a little half and half, but they'd have to figure things out as they went. Next was a suggestion of skipping food and instead continuing with the investigation until they'd looked around these important areas. She supposed she wasn't against that notion, but that left them with the question as to whether they needed to wait here, or if heading over to the Cactithedral would be a smart idea from here.

"Hmm, I like that idea. I can stave off hunger for a few more hours, or at least I probably can. I'm not shaky or anything just yet anyway"

She held up her hand to prove a point, noticing only a slight shake. Well... At least she wasn't required to use her rifle at the moment she supposed. And if it was required of her... She'd find out how well she could shoot on an empty stomach she supposed. With that in mind, this meant that they'd simply be waiting about for Decca to be done with her own candle lit dinner or whatever it was she was up to, and then they could go exploring. She wondered whether she should explain to the Mourner about what had happened down in the place they'd been to, but opted against it simply to avoid complications. What if she started shouting about them being irresponsible or something? Scarlett already had some regrets, but... They needed answers. Before she could come to any conclusions, she needed to investigate these places, and then maybe... Maybe Chrys could escort her through those crypts. She shivered at the thought.

"Anyway, what'd you like to do Chrys? We've got some time to kill, we could go for a pleasant walk and talk about girls perhaps? Nah I'm kidding, unless you actually wanted to. Decca will be a while anyway I imagine"

“We need to do something about her captive soon, I think.” Chrysoara said – half in answer to her question and half musing through his thoughts. They had a high ranking priest captured on their ship. This could end badly if they didn’t find any evidence to condemn him, though they did have the syringe…wait, did they have the syringe? “It should be easier to hold him captive if we have evidence of some misdeeds or his involvement in the kidnappings. Hopefully we will find more when we explore his last known location – wherever the priests are assuming that is – and his room; however, you are right in that there is one more place we can still look. You mentioned it earlier. The place you were attacked. Maybe we could check that out in the meantime? I’d want some evidence to back up our claims that we deserve to hold him in custody before we let any of the priests and priestesses in on that….speaking of evidence, do we still have that syringe he used which knocked him out? I have no idea about science but we have to have someone in the marines who could analyze it for us? Maybe if we found out what was in it, that it could give us some clues. Plus, just having that syringe should be a little bit of evidence to help us out.”

As Chrysoara finished talking, he heard his Den Den Mushi go off. Clicking a button on it to let the snail know that he was okay with accepting the call, Chrysoara immediately heard a slightly familiar voice on the other side. It was both Ensign Chrysoara Fusce and Commander Scarlett’s superior officer – Captain Cain.

“Ensign Chrysoara, I believe I told you to check in every evening. Your SITREP is late. Over” The voice said, though Chrysoara couldn’t hear any anger coming from it.

“Roger, Sir. We were meeting with Decca Pelson this evening – which delayed the report.” Chrysoara said, adopting a more formal tone than he had used recently with Commander Scarlett. Chrysoara felt that he was beginning to relax around the Commander – partially due to the alcohol which he strategically did not mention to Captain Cain. “This currently is not a good location for the SITREP, Sir. We have sensitive intel and are currently in the open. Could we send it after we investigate one last spot for the evening? Over.”

“Roger that. You have two hours. Before I forget, we got new orders for you Ensign Fusce. It seems some higher ups wanted to recognize your efforts on Rust Pit Island. You have received a direct promotion to Lieutenant. I assume that Commander Scarlett is with you. She needs to perform the pinning ceremony. That’s a direct order. Out.” The voice said, giving the phrase that signals the end of the conversation.

Chrysoara was left speechless. Lieutenant? That was two ranks higher than what he was currently at. He didn’t feel he had done anything worthy of receiving a promotion which skipped over Lieutenant Junior Grade. Were the higher ups finally realizing that he had been held back due to his species? Either way, he was elated. Chrysoara could hardly contain his excitement as he thought about a pinning ceremony. He had never received one. He was promoted to Ensign by Lieutenant Strong – who made it a point not to recognize Chrysoara in a positive way. In fact, the lieutenant had basically just thrown the rank at him and grumpily told Chrysoara to get out.

Chrysoara couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

"We can lug him over to the main ship at some point I suppose, they'd be interested in talking to him most likely"

She replied, thinking about how that group would be a whole lot more suited to questioning him than she was. The fact that just thinking about it made her feel ill again was enough to show she wasn't cut out for that sort of thing. Sure, she could probably manage it, but... It was tough. As Chrys began to speak about exploring where she'd been attacked she instinctively began to thumb the handle of her pistol, feeling her heartrate increase at just the thought. Sure, she'd mentioned it but she seriously didn't want to go back there. She knew it was important but, surely there was something else? As she wracked her brain, she was reminded again of the weapon which she was fairly certain she'd simply brushed to the side. Slowly she shook her head to respond, until suddenly some sort of noise could be heard from her fellow marine's person. It took Scarlett a moment to recognise it as a Den Den.

A familiar voice began to speak up, mentioning some sort of... Scarlett wasn't even going to try. She'd made special note to forget all the technical terms the marines had forced her to learn originally, simply because the level which she worked at didn't need to be all technical. Go out, do the mission, come back home and get a thumbs up. That's how it worked. She didn't care whether she got a promotion or not, she was content with how things were. They didn't need to be changing. And yet, here the Captain was saying Chrys was getting a promotion. A grin spread across her face, as she thought about how she'd been planning on requesting he get some more recognition, and yet it appeared she wasn't the only one thinking about this. As he looked up in confusion she clapped him on the back.

"Wow, congrats Chrys. I told you that you deserved more recognition, seems like someone else agrees with me. Though uh... Remind me... Pinning ceremony?"

She chuckled a little bit. Was that just where she told him he'd done something good and was getting a promotion? She knew through experience she'd gone through something similar a few times, and they tended to hand out something or other, but whatever it was had been lost with her old marine jackets. Speaking of, she'd go find another one when they headed back later, assuming that was what they planned to do now. Scalett was actually lagging a little behind here right now, unsure what to do or say. She was happy for her fellow marine, but at the same time she didn't know what to say or do now.

Uh...what?” Chrysoara said as he struggled to get his mind working again. Promotion. Pinning ceremony. Marine things. Work things. Right. Chrysoara began to play with a metal pin that was stuck in the collar of his jacket. There was one on each side, but he was playing with the one on the right hand side. Wiggling it in and out a little bit, though the pin was held fastly to the jacket. The symbol on the side of the pin that showed was the symbol of an ensign. An officer rank, if only barely. “Well, I’ve never actually had a pinning ceremony but...yeah. Basically, you remove the metal pin from my collar and put a pin for a lieutenant in after you say I did good and why I deserve the promotion. You’re supposed to read off the orders but since we don’t actually have the orders, I think that will have to be sidelined. Actually...I don’t know if I have any lieutenant pins either. Wasn’t exactly planning on making that rank anytime soon, you know? Aaaand, now that I think about it, we don’t really have a crew to have the ceremony in front of either. Hard to recognize my accomplishments if we don’t have anyone to host the ceremony in front of”, Chrysoara spoke calmly but his face began to turn from puzzlement to Sadness as he spoke. Was he about to miss out on another pinning ceremony?

Chrysoara also found it extremely odd to be explaining this to his commanding officer. Part of him thought that he should be mad that he had to explain the ceremony meant to honor him to his commander, but he didn’t feel mad at all. Slightly sad that he was likely not going to get the ceremony again, sure, but not mad. In fact, as Chrysoara looked at the beautiful pink haired marine standing a little behind him - as she had evidently lagged behind slightly during all this - he couldn’t help but feel a slight longing.

Chrysoara nearly slapped himself for that. In fact, he caught himself with his hand raised halfway to his face. He didn’t know what was wrong with him. He loved to follow the rules and was the type of person who did things by the book. Despite this, he found the bad girl routine quite appealing and this appeared to generalize to not following orders and rules in general. It was a strangely dichotomous situation and Chrysoara could only suppress the feelings that caused him to feel that way. “Well, we still don’t have time to make it back to the ship before we need to meet Decca. Shall we continue on to the place you were attacked?”

"Ohh, now I remember. Kind of... I think I forgot about them or something. Ever the professional, you know?"

She grinned, slightly regretting it in some ways now. She was proud of this guy, like a younger brother that had just achieved something great. Sticking Chrys in the little brother zone and all that. She wanted to congratulate him but technically she was the one which was meant to be honouring him, and she had very little idea of what to do or how to do it. Besides, she hadn't been there or read the report on what had happened. She thought to herself for a moment, her hands in her pockets as she inspecting the man. Yes... Yes that might work.

"Well, I can't say I carry around badges to knight you or anything like that, but... I think I might have something else."

She wasn't seriously considering this, was she? Surely he'd just think it was dumb, and it wouldn't actually mean anything. Sure, she had nothing to give him until they were back at the ship, and nobody was around to witness it but... Surely Chrys would scoff at the idea, or maybe even be repulsed by it. But heck, she wasn't exactly known for doing things the normal way. Reaching to the pouch at her side, she fished around for a moment before coming across what she was looking for. A while ago she'd gotten into the habit of recollecting any bullets she could, including those which were a little battered. One in particular she'd picked up had managed to lose a large chunk from one edge, making it perfect for what she had in mind.

"Ensign Chrysoara, I am awarding you the rank of Lieutenant for your bravery and persistent ability to remain both professional and... Capable? Yeah that sounds right. Whilst this isn't the most official way of doing things, and whilst I haven't been about for your previous escapades, you've proven yourself able to act independently as a Lieutenant should be able to. Soooo, congratulations"

She grinned, a little flustered at remaining professional for such a duration. Reaching forwards towards the suit which her fellow marine wore, she held the bullet up towards the buttonhole on his lapel and pushed it through. The gap in it made it fit fairly perfectly, and held a certain personal touch from his... What was her rank again? Commander, that was it. That meant Chrys was catching her, didn't it? Impressive. Once she'd placed the makeshift badge on him, assuming he allowed her to, she stepped back and thought for a moment.

"I suppose we should head to the Cactithedral now then, maybe we can go scare some priests, again. Or maybe I shouldn't be saying that. Ah well"

Chrysoara cocked an eyebrow as he listened to Commander Scarlett say that she had something else that may be able to act similar to the normal pinning ceremony. She didn’t seem the type to carry around any professional marine regalia, but he could be wrong.

Then, she pulled out a bullet. It was damaged and had obviously been shot before - so Chrysoara couldn’t help but feel even more inquisitive as to why she had the bullet. He was even more curious what she was going to do with it.

His face would slowly turn from a quizzical one with a cocked eyebrow to one of respect and near deference as his commander began to speak professionally. In fact, it was the most professional she had been since they met each other. Proud of this moment, even if it wasn’t exactly by the books, Chrysoara snapped his arms and feet into the position of Attention as she spoke. It was a simple position. The eyes had to be straightforward and should not move to follow anything. His arms lined up with the seams on his pant legs and stayed there, stiff and not swaying in the slightest. The heels of his feet touched and his feet formed a forty five degree angle between them.

It was a simple position, but it was also the most formal position the marines had. Not everyone followed protocol, but Chrysoara did. It helped ease some of the hatred that superiors would have, though in this case he went into the position for a different reason. He wanted to show his Commander that he was taking this impromptu ceremony as seriously as she was; he was taking it as seriously as he would take a real ceremony.

After the bullet was placed in an empty buttonhole on his lapel, Chrys looked at it and played with it for a moment. It didn’t appear to be going anywhere.

“Ma’am, thank you for that. May I ask why you carry around used bullets?” Chrysoara would ask as he began to make their way to the cactihedral. They really weren’t far since Decca’s home had been only a few buildings away.

There was something entertaining about Chrys standing up all straight, going along with her plan of making this a little professional. The main issue she found with this was that when he stood up straight she was struggling to actually reach him, and though she did manage it... He was overly tall and she wasn't exactly the tallest. Once that was done though, she felt a little more comfortable, no longer having to put on that professional front. She supposed she could have just been herself but it wouldn't have had the same impact, and despite her dislike of everything formal, her fellow marine didn't have the same thought process. His question that followed caught her off guard for a moment though.

"Ahhh, hm. Waste not, want not? Most of my damaged ones are from training and stuff though, I haven't gotten into the habit of fishing through unconscious guys bodies don't worry. As in... For bullets"

Her eyes moved around shiftily for a moment as she corrected her speech, made perhaps worse by the fact she still carried a bag around containing various amounts of solidified blood. Just thinking about it made her faint, but perhaps it could prove useful still? Prankster materials and all. It took her a moment to realise Chrys had begun to walk ahead, and she quickly caught up and stepped in line with him to continue talking about various topics if they so wished. After all, learning more about your allies was important, it meant you could work better together. She wasn't 100% on that belief, but she'd heard it enough to at least go along with it.

"About where I got attacked by the way... It's within the Cactithedral itself, and there's some weird motorised hidden passageways and stuff. It's kind of a big place from the looks, meaning if we were to look we couldn't exactly inspect much of it"

She attempted to subtly dissuade Chrys from exploring the place, aware that if this was their secret place, there'd surely be more people around somewhere down there. Not only that, it'd also mean that they'd have to go through the place of worship she'd already abandoned... Wait, no she had an idea! Reaching into her pockets she fetched a hair band and grabbed at her mess of curly hair, pulling it back as best she could into a sort of ponytail. Despite being a 'sniper', she hardly ever tied her hair back, finding it quite rare for her vision to be blocked despite the amount of hair she actually had. She kept this sort of stuff with her anyway, but once her hair was tied back it'd prove a little more of a challenge to tell it was her. She could totally act as Commander Scarlett, and not Scarlett Jr who she'd been earlier essentially. Perfect!

Chrysora listened to her explanation about why she picked up bullets. It was heartening to hear that the bullets she carried hadn’t come from dead bodies. That would be a little more morbid than he thought he could handle.

Commander Scarlett talked and her voice seemed to quiver slightly as she did so - she probably didn’t even notice it. Why would she not want to explore where she was attacked? It being a large area made some sense, but what else were they to do? Hmm.

“Commander, it seems you would rather not visit where you were attacked. I understand how trauma can affect one and do not wish to pressure you into visiting the area until you are ready. Perhaps we should try to conduct some interviews with the local populace while we wait then? I travelled to the top of that mountain and showed respect to the dead there in order to earn the trust of the locals. Maybe they’ll talk more than they had been willing to before? Others are bound to have information besides Decca.”
Chrysoara said - taking a shot in the dark as to why she would be hesitant to explore the area. Something about her voice made him think there was something there other than it just being a large area. He had heard of people experiencing trauma while in the marines, though he had never met anyone who would admit to it. He didn’t know much of what that meant, but avoiding the area it happened at seemed logical.

Chrysoara stopped in front of the Cactihedral, not opening the door just yet. He wanted to know what their goal would be as soon as they entered. They could ask questions easily, but he would need the Commander to lead if they were to investigate the area she was attacked.

“So, what’s the plan, Ma’am?”

Scarlett scowled a little bit. She didn't have trauma. In fact, she hardly cared that she'd been attacked, this was just... Something else. In fact it was something she couldn't particularly admit, because a Commander admitting they were a coward was a terrible idea. Heck she wouldn't even admit it to herself, but that just became a weird confusing loop then. Point was, she wasn't mentally harmed by the place, moreso she was just very scared of the consequences of going there. Her cheeks flushed a little bit as she attempted to figure out how to respond, before simply replying:

"I don't have trauma, it just... It doesn't seem safe down there. Besides do you really want a marksman in narrow corridors?"

If she were to miss in an enclosed space, who knew who would end up getting hit. She might have felt slightly confident in her ability to aim, but even then what if her bullet punched through a person and began to bounce? Perhaps she was being a little bit twitchy over things but with good reason. If you counted being a wimp as a 'good reason'. She sighed heavily. Sooner or later they'd need to go and explore whether she liked it or not. She could put it off for a while though, so there was that. Plus she could always hide behind Chrys if they did go exploring.

"Yes, the locals might be a good start. We could be a while in their secret place thingy anyway, so it's better to be brief and then talk to Decca about things"

She attempted to bluff a little bit, as she looked up at the Cactithedral. This place again. It had only been perhaps a few hours since she was last here, yet she felt a well of anxiety in her gut. At least it was later in the day and less people would be milling about. Taking a deep breath she dumped her deerstalker on her head again, this time lowering it a bit so she'd be a little harder to recognise. She also made sure to stand a little straighter than before to give herself a little extra height. She wasn't very good at disguises, but at least it might cause people to double take, allowing her to escape before they asked her any questions. Or she could stop being a chicken and admit to them why she'd gone undercover...

Chrysoara wasn’t quite sure what to make of his Commander’s response. She said she didn’t have trauma but she still seemed to be scared of something regarding that area. Was there more that she wasn’t telling him? What else happened down there? Furthermore, how in the world was this not trauma?

Chrysoara put on a placating smile and nodded his head as she talked. It definitely seemed like trauma to Chrys, whether she wanted to admit it or not. That was okay; there was a certain stigma against admitting to mental illness while in the marines. It wasn’t that the marines would be biased against you if you had traumatic issues, but Chrysoara had talked with some other marines about this issue before. It made sense to him why they were scared of admitting it. Honestly, Chrys wasn’t sure if he would admit to having trauma or some other issue if any developed for him. If he did, then what would happen? The marines would be hesitant to send him on dangerous missions for fear that he would be put in a desk job and be unable to do any field work. Those were jobs for the old and broken marines – not for young ones like Chrysoara or Commander Scarlett. Yes, Chrysoara understood where she was coming from and wouldn’t pressure her. He wouldn’t know what to do to help, anyway. He would just leave it up to her to decide if she was comfortable exploring the area. If it came down to it, he would explore it alone tomorrow.

“Yes, Ma’am. We can cover more ground if we split up and talk to separate individuals once inside. Besides, it may be less intimidating to speak to one marine rather than two.” Chrysoara said as he wlaked forward and swung open the doors to the Cactihedral.

Feel free to come up with people etc to interview once inside. Also, I don't know the full specifics of your rock thingy you threw before, so I am leaving the description of the inside of the cactihedral up to you.

It seemed that they were already doing interviews, perfect. At least they were off the topic of the underground danger zone, however being in enclosed space with possible- No no no, that's not how it works. Steeling her nerves, she walked inside of the Cactithedral with Chrys, looking around to see what was going on. There was a surprising number of priests milling about in this area, many in various groups and some stood on their own. There was no initial sign of anyone Scarlett recognised thankfully. She wasn't exactly sure how interviews worked if she was honest, but with her notebook to hand she opted to move to one side of the room opposite where she'd run into who they believed to be Agnew Respite.

"Hey hey, I'm here investigating some disappearances reported on the island. May I ask why you're all gathered around here?"

Scarlett questioned, asking a priest who stood at the side of the room on his own. He seemed to simply be observing what was going on, perhaps a little less social than the others. In fact, his hood seemed to hide more of his face than many of the others' seemed to. Nevertheless his gaze rose to hers, his expression not changing for a moment. After a moment of awkward silence, eventually the older, bearded man inhaled slowly before replying. Even when he breathed in his robe hardly moved, he was a fairly skinny man then.

"Investigating the disappearances? Hmph... There was an attack earlier, some sort of dangerous item suddenly appeared at the feet of many of the priests here. Most of them too naive to even consider it a danger. Wasn't till one of the smarter ones suggested it could be dangerous they even considered running. We've been discussing what the attack could mean."

He spoke, before turning to look at something somewhere off behind Scarlett. She quickly took some brief notes on a blank page, trying to hold back her laughter. These poor sods really were sheltered. Those that were doing the kidnappings must have had really easy pickings, which would also explain why her assailant had been fairly clumsy. To think, if she hadn't reacted how she did... Well, she had, so don't worry about it. She'd just need to be more cautious whilst here. She'd never been to such a docile yet hostile island before.

"Mhm hmm, ok thankyou. Do you think this attack could perhaps be linked to the disappearances?"

She asked, already aware that it wasn't. She had to act casual about all of this though didn't she? Casually she glanced over her shoulder, but to check that her volunteer wasn't actually looking at anything in particular, and to check on how Chrys was doing. He'd probably extract information fairly easily with him being the wordsmith that he was. Though, he was also mildly intoxicated still she imagined... Oops.

"I wouldn't have a clue. Can't say I know much about them, just rumors and stuff, y'know? Though, people didn't just suddenly vanish one day, it's been becoming more and more frequent over time. Not everyone even believes it, but those people are fools I tell you."

This was... Interesting. Flipping through the pages of her notebook she began to scrawl down some more notes, in particular on the frequency of the disappearances increasing, and about the varied opinions on them. She wondered, perhaps someone part of the group itself would deny them? Or, maybe someone that was part of the group would try and incite fear by telling people about them?! She looked up at the man, who was busy attempting not to look directly at her. If he hadn't appeared antisocial from the start she'd have questioned him but... No, he was probably ok.

"More frequent? So, would that mean that perhaps whoever is behind it is building up to something, or maybe becoming more confident?"

The old man looked back at her, sighed and then shrugged his shoulders. She had a feeling he knew little more than that. Though, she would keep her eyes on him, see what he did next just in case. Bowing her head a little, she thanked him for the help, before stepping back a little bit back towards the entrance, looking over at Chrys again.
