Chrysoara nodded towards his Commander as she walked down the stairs. Once he was alone, he began to look around the room. Was there anything they were missing in here? The bookshelf would have had books on technology, but was there anything else that was missing?

Chrysoara began to scrounge through everything he could find. Despite the destruction, it was a rather bare room. How much of that was due to the ransacking of this place? It didn’t take long before Chrysoara tossed a book across the room and grunted.

“This is pointless. These people seem to have been thorough. They tore this place apart to make sure that they collected everything possible from the room that could connect the New Age Priests to Mourner Respite…” Chrysoara said, slumping onto the floor next to the desk. He hadn’t searched the desk, yet, but what was the point of it all? They had gone out of their way to make sure the desk had been thoroughly destroyed. They wouldn’t have left anything behind there.

Maybe it wasn’t about what was left behind but what wasn’t there. It was the same with the candle and lantern – wasn’t it? There was no light source here in the bedroom – which told Chrysoara what was taken. The room had been powered through some kind of technological light source.

Then what was important about the desk – which was the area of the largest amount of destruction in the room. Chrysoara pulled himself to his feet and began to run his free hand along the desk where it split. The edge was rough rather than smooth. That meant it was done through blunt force? The desk didn’t feel as if it was a cheap desk. The wood was thick, and the desk was sturdy.

Whatever had done this was extremely strong. Stronger than Chrysoara, and he was a Fishman. What could be stronger than a Fishman? Was there really a human out there this much stronger than a Fishman?

Chrysoara sighed as he moved his hand along the desk until he found where the drawer should have been. Instead of splitting, the force had knocked the drawer out of the desk and it lay on the ground. The slot for the drawer was broken the same way as the rest of the desk. As Chrysoara stood by the desk, he sniffed out of curiousity.

The scent of blood was more powerful here than it had been elsewhere. Well, he assumed that it was the scent of blood. As it was said, Chrysoara wasn’t familiar with the smell well enough to call it blood – though he trusted Commander Scarlett’s opinion on what the smell was. He had no idea what else it could be.

Decca listened to the marine woman as she walked out of the building. This was clearly the work of the New Age Priests. This was what she had run into whenever she had tried to investigate the New Age Priests.

A complete scrubbing of the evidence.

“After you, then.” She said, managing to keep a smile on her face.

OOC Note

Feel free to take control of Decca - though I know you are hesitant to take too much control.

Scarlett nodded, turning back around and stepping into the first room of the house, the living room. She held the lantern up high to give a general idea of the state of the room, and so that Decca could inspect whatever there was around here. She seemed hesitant though, which would make sense. Going through another's stuff wasn't exactly the nicest of things to do, especially a missing guy who was presumed dead. That last part the Priestess didn't know just yet, but perhaps it would be worth mentioning it to her. After all, she'd been all for explaining what was happening moments ago. She sighed heavily, finally speaking up.

"We've scoured the house, everywhere is trashed not just this room. There seems to be a significant lack of... Technology round here. Of course, that'd make sense apart from we believe our man in question to be one of the New Age Priests..."

She trailed off, that was a lot to tell her straight off the bat. This could have been someone close to her, someone... No, she had to think about the mission. Leaning down she slowly lifted up one of the paintings. It was just some basic scenery, nothing particularly out there, nothing harmful to a group such as that. Scarlett considered her next words carefully.

"I mentioned that I was attacked whilst within the Cactithedral, well that was by Agnew Respite. He managed to knock himself unconscious in the process. We managed to get him back to our ship and questioned him... That would be how we know the name of this group in the first place. An attack on his home and various books and equipment missing... That's no coincidence, they're trying to hide themselves"

If Decca turned out to be one of them, this would make things even more difficult. Alternatively, it'd push the group back and make them falter. Regardless, there was no point stopping here. If she was telling her what they knew, may as well continue, right?

"When he attempted to knock me unconscious, he revealed a passageway to me, underneath the Cactithedral. I don't imagine it's a commonly used one, in fact I'd say it's... Something they've kept hidden. Once we've had a look through here, I wish to prove this to the inhabitants of the island. From there, our duty at marines will be to rid this island of them, to make them see justice for what they've done etcetera etcetera..."

That was a lot to suddenly dump on this poor woman, and especially someone that attempted to remain to cheery. In fact, that positive exterior was why she'd kept out the information about Agnew possibly being dead now, and the details of the attack.

Chrysoara stood there – one hand resting on the desk. What could he learn from this destroyed desk? The amount of damage on it told him that it was likely a major target of their search. The only question was, why?

Chrysoara rubbed his head slightly – trying to massage the slight pain out of it. He couldn’t tell if it was from the drink earlier in the day or because of the thinking he was doing. Of course, it could always be a combination of those and the fact that he hadn’t had any water or food since…before arriving on the island. He didn’t know what time it was, but it was dark outside. Clearly, he needed to eat. Eat and sleep. For now, Chrys pushed the matter of his worldly needs out of his mind. He needed to focus.

Why would a desk be a target in their attack? They had removed all traces of technology and knocked over a bookshelf as well. Books….books on technology. There wouldn’t be books in a desk but perhaps there would be other things relating to technology? Designs on some pieces of equipment? Correspondence?

Chrys wasn’t sure but it didn’t take him long to figure out that the drawer was completely devoid of paper. There was still an odd writing utensil – though nothing too technological. The absence of paper made Chrys think that he was on the right track. Whoever had ransacked this place must have taken all of the paper out of the desk to make sure that he didn’t miss anything. Sadly, as Chrys looked around the room, he couldn’t see much else in here worth his notice.

The fishman began to walk slowly towards the door. On the way, something shiny caught his eye. It sat near the door and was partially buried by some errant pieces of wood – whether from the desk or maybe broken off one of the bookshelves, Chrys wasn’t sure. He bent down and moved the wood. Underneath it, there was a small silver key.

The fishman picked the key up and pocketed it before standing back up. He hadn’t seen anything that this key might go to. Heck, it may go to the front door. Still, it was possible that the key may come in handy at some point. Besides, if the person who ransacked this place left behind a key then maybe they left other things behind accidentally.

Decca listened. She didn’t know much about the New Age Priests – just that they were the cause of her brother’s death. So, when the marine girl mentioned the lack of technology, she was honestly surprised. So the order had to do with technology? Strange.

Though, Agnew Respite attacking her was even more shocking. So these marines were the reason Agnew was missing. That meant that this house was different than what she expected. This wasn’t a victim’s house but the house of one of those that she hunted.

“This…is a lot.” Decca found herself saying – her excitement and energetic façade finally fading as the priestess sat down against the wall. “I…I don’t have anything more to offer you, then, if this house is the house of a perpetrator. At this point, what can I do to help?”

Well, that energy had to fade at some point. Scarlett looked at the priest who seemed rather uncertain of what to do here, even asking what there was she could even do. The marine sighed a little, thinking on the idea before flipping up another painting. This one was damaged beyond recognisability, but the oranges across it made her imagine some sort of desert at sunrise perhaps. Or Sunset, that was plausible too. She continued to look over it for a moment, before finally propping it up against the sofa and looking back at the Priestess.

"This house has a layout similar to yours by the looks of it. Do you think you'd notice if anything in here was out of place? Also, neither I or Chrys have any knowledge of this islands beliefs really, your expert knowledge would be an amazing help."

She continued to think for a moment as she began to look over the damage done to the table. They didn't want Decca getting injured. Heck, they didn't want anyone getting injured, but something about this just screamed too much danger. Strength in numbers though. If she were to take a group of them down into the New Age Priests den, it'd not only be safer but then they'd also have proof. Then they could all leave and... No, maybe that would force their hand. She didn't want to be the cause of a rebellion, and a violent one at that. Most these priests were hostile, but they were fairly docile... Anyone trained could take out numerous most likely, and chances were this rebel group was nothing to scoff at.

"You also have a lot of influence over the other priests do you not? That could play an important role too, especially in convincing them to follow us, if only to show them this secret hidden place... Yeah that does sound kinda lame but what else can I call it? But, you get the idea, right?"

Chrys was the one that should have been giving motivational speeches, yet here she was trying to convince a priestess that what she was going was going to help everyone, and that she could be of some use.

Chrysoara took one last look around the place. Nothing on the walls or on the floors seemed out of place. Maybe there was nothing else in here to find.

Chrysoara’s chest heaved as he sighed and walked out the door – sweat glistening on his skin. It wasn’t particularly hot - not when compared to the armor he had been wearing – but he was tired and his body was tense. His heart still had not settled from the excitement of storming this house, room by room. As he made his way downstairs, Chrysoara winced as the stairs made noise.

Creak

Creak

Creak

Eventually, Chrysoara would throw open the door to the room below and walk out of it without looking too hard. He wanted to find his Commander. There was nothing more to find in the bedroom, and he was curious to see if they had found anything down below. The large fishman would walk into the room in time to hear Commander Scarlett giving a terrible pep talk to the Priestess. Unsure what to make of the situation, Chrysoara stepped off to the side and put his back to the wall.

“Okay.” Decca eventually said. Chrysoara noted the long pause between it. He wasn’t sure what prompted the pep talk, but the Priestess was clearly feeling beaten down about something. “Honestly, maybe? The physical layout is the same but the stuff inside it is chosen by the individual. There isn’t too much room for leeway since not many people visit this island to sell their merchandise, but still. I can try. As for visiting this secret hidden tunnel place, I can lend credibility to your cause…so long as you promise you will catch these people.”

Chrysoara looked at her with a calm gaze. A promise is what she wanted? That wasn’t really something they could easily just promise. They were facing an entire organization, after-all. Nevertheless, a lie wasn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes it got desirable effects.

“We will do everything we can to make sure these kidnappings stop, Mourner Pelson.” Chrysoara said solemnly before switching his attention to his Commander. “I only found a small key in the bedroom. I couldn’t find anything that it seemed to go to, though. I grabbed it just in case you found something locked or maybe it will open a door in that hidden passageway that you told me about before.”

A faint creaking signified that Chrys was approaching. Well, that or someone else was about. No! Why would you think of that?! Thankfully a moment later her fellow marine emerged and helped soothe her nerves a little bit. It seemed she'd managed to do something similar for Decca who agreed to help, and seemed pretty determined to get these guys sorted out. There certainly was some form of personal attachment there, not just as a duty of a Priestess. Odd indeed, but again she opted not to press for information. Before she could get a solid reply in, her co-worker managed to cover for her, not promising like she'd felt concerned about, but instead confirming they'd do the best they could. This corruption could run deeper than they'd initially thought after all, for them it might be impossible without reinforcements. But... They'd be the ones to uncover them and find out as much as they could.

"A key hey? Always interesting. Decca, know of any secret spots it could be in the house? We can look away if they're yours too if anything"

The key sounded most likely like it would be for somewhere intriguing underground, but she couldn't personally confirm that considering... Well, she wasn't one of them. She was fairly certain she wasn't anyway. What if they'd actually succeeded in grabbing her, rewrote her memories and... No, even with weird technology that they seemed to like, she doubted that'd be possible. Right? Ah, it didn't matter, she knew deep down where her allegiances lay; even if someone brainwashed her she was confident she could stick to it. After all, it's basically who she was, and had been her whole life. Or more... It was her life? That being, the marines. Or moreso, normality. She'd joined to keep things the same, so that nothing terrible happened, and of course to investigate more than a missing sock in the laundry.

"I have a feeling we shouldn't spend too much time here though, the quicker we are, the more ahead we remain of our opposition"

She spoke, finally standing up from where she'd been crouched by the various stuff on the floor, and wandered over to Decca. She held her arm up in the air, offering her light from the lantern and allowing her free time to scan the rooms as she wished. Scarlett would follow her around assuming she was willing to look around now, and would point out the main points of interest if or when they got to them.

Interesting was right; Chrysoara just wished it was more than interesting. He wished it was useful. He wished he could be more useful. Skirting promises to someone who was trying to help them…

“Oh! Hidden places? Surely I don’t know what you are talking about. We are priests, Miss Marine. We don’t build hiding spots into our buildings. If any exist, then they would have been added separately by Agnew” Decca said, a slight amount of cheer coming into our voice again. Chrysoara noticed her use of the words Miss Marine. Interesting. Was Decca bad at names? Chrysoara thought they had mentioned their names – didn’t they? “I could maybe tell you if anything looks different than it should – though!”

“Well, lead us around the house and tell us if anything is off then? Commander Scarlett is right that we shouldn’t stay long. This group managed to get here before us. That means they know we were coming here.” Chrysoara said, trying to be as vague as possible. How much had the Commander decided to tell Decca Pelson? They had been talking about telling her everything they know but maybe she had decided against revealing something.“ How much else do they know about our investigation. We need to make sure that we get evidence before they can ransack it like they did this place.”

Chrysoara began to follow Mourner Pelson around the building as she would walk and look for anything out of the ordinary. Sadly, Chrysoara continued to walk. They didn’t stop once – because Decca Pelson didn’t stop to point out anything out of the ordinary.

“I’m sorry….there’s just nothing here that seems out of the ordinary…well, that I can find through this destruction.” Decca would say – losing some of her characteristic cheer.

Chrysoara stopped following her and walked to the front door to await his Commander. He couldn’t help but contemplate the plan that they had laid forth. Something was bugging him in the back of his mind. He knew he wasn’t exactly fond of the plan for his own reasons – but Commander Scarlett was probably in the right. She outranked him for a reason. Still, something bugged him. These people practically destroyed this house before they got to it. Would they be prepared for this next move?

"I suppose that'd make sense. I'll keep my eye out too then"

And so the group made their way around the building, with Chrys making an interesting comment. The New Age Priests had been one step ahead the whole time, is it possible that they somehow knew what was coming next? In which case her plan wouldn't work and would just make things difficult... They needed something more, some sort of evidence or direct link. Perhaps the answer would jump out at her once she made it to the Cactithedral again. After all, even if they no longer had access to the passageways, there would almost certainly be another entrance somewhere, else none of them would have access. They just needed to trail someone then... Many options, but for now...

"Boo"

Scarlett said, not actually attempting to scare Chrys as she exited the house a little while after him. She'd thanked Decca for what help and information she'd been able to provide and then had joined her fellow marine outside, the Priestess lagging behind a little taking a last look around. She looked up at the dark sky. A few stars were out, which was fairly nice and would have been soothing if this wasn't such a pain in the backside. She finally looked back towards her co-worker.

"What's on your mind?"

He seemed distracted. Despite being particularly bad at reading people, Scarlett had read enough books to have a general idea about people, and when they looked like Chrys currently did it usually meant something. Similarly she was also bothered by something, namely the question of how exactly were these people finding out the information and remaining one step ahead? Decca really didn't seem like the backstabbing type, though she knew she had been wrong before. Her plan probably would work, but now she was beginning to doubt herself. No, like she'd thought before, once she got to the Cactithedral she'd figure things out and they'd work out what they needed to do. Plus they had some sort of secret key, which she was sure would provide some use.

“Boo” The voice rang out from behind Chrysoara – who was lost in thought. Not being prepared for this, Chrysoara tightened his fist. His heart picked up in speed. It was only when Chrysoara turned is head and saw Scarlett there that Chrysoara loosened up.

“Sorry. I was just thinking about these New Age Priests. I hate to admit it but they’re starting to get to me. I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly, but something bugs me about what we are going to do.” Chrysoara said, trying to be vague so as to avoid saying that he didn’t like the plan. Of course, something did bug him about it that felt unconnected to his dislike of the plan. “It’s almost as if I can almost grasp their countermove to what we are about to do, but it just keeps escaping me.”

Chrysoara stopped talking for a minute as he thought. Was he just worried about the possibility of getting cornered and killed in those passageways with a group of priests? That didn’t feel right, but maybe he should mention the possibility after-all. Maybe it would ease the feeling of uneasiness that had settled into the pit of Chrysoara’s stomach and caused goosebumps to appear on his arms.

“I…Ma’am… I mean no disrespect but what if this is a trap? What if we lead a group of priests into that underground and they are waiting for us? We are fighting a seemingly intelligent organization and…the brute strength required to do the damage in that building is absurd. Fighting these people would be difficult alone. I don’t know how useful I would be in a fight where they had hostages, too. “ Chrysoara almost tripped over his own words as he spoke. The goosebumps didn’t go away.

If that wasn’t what was bothering him, then what was?

"No, no I understand. Something isn't sitting quite right with me either..."

It seemed Chrys believed that they might be ready for their movement and might have been ready for it. But what could they possibly do to stop them? It seemed like a mess but her belief that she'd know when she was it was still strong. Maybe they shouldn't drag all the priests down there. In fact, maybe Decca should be the only one till they were sure. Unless it was just the two of them, but... She would be important, useful... Maybe it should simply be left up to her if she came along. Would just the three of them be ideal for now? It was an issue...

"That's true, it could be. But it seems highly unlikely that Agnew's actions were intentional, he slipped and knocked himself unconscious. It felt genuine, that was no acting, and if they've... Dealt with him, well then they're punishing him. Perhaps they do know we're going there, but what else can we do? Do we just wait for more information to come to us?"

She asked, sighing a little bit. She didn't speak in a harsh tone despite some of her words, instead aiming to simply ask what he thought was best. If they both felt something was off, then maybe it was best not to go through with it, but what if that's exactly what they wanted? Mind games were difficult, and sometimes thinking too much into it could be dangerous. If they didn't do this now, they'd need to think about things and approach it from a different direction, but the longer they waited the more of a challenge it would be to do so. These New Age Priests gathered information impressively fast... If they had eyes everywhere like they seemed to, then maybe it would be best to be completely unpredictable... But how?

"Let's take a look at least, but I agree that maybe my initial idea isn't the wisest. I've got this feeling deep down that it'll be worth at least taking a look briefly, at least at the Cactithedral y'know?"

She looked off in the general direction which they'd come from prior. She hated the idea of those catacombs or whatever they were. She quickly took out her notebook and made a few notes, scanning the others and considering everything. Had they known Agnew would mess up? They'd known who she was almost as soon as she'd arrived and very quickly had him try to intervene. Perhaps there was information in that somehow... They all had to be in contact and had to be acting fairly fluidly, almost as if they all thought as one... It was irritating her now. She noticed the sound of footsteps from inside the house, and moments later Decca exited. It appeared she'd made no findings, which was a pain.

"Let's head back, we'll think over some ideas once we'll there and... We'll figure it out"

“No, Ma’am.” Chrysoara said, spine stiffening at her words. He stood up straighter as she talked – though it wasn’t out of pride. It was out of the words having a touch of…reprimand to them. The young marine Commander hadn’t spoken in harsh tones but that didn’t appear to be her way. Even a minor reprimand where she was asking him for better ideas of what to do – in the manor that she did so – came off like harsh criticism coming from the normally docile woman. “I have no better ideas. I agree that we should perhaps head back to the Cactihedral.”

Chrysoara had waited to answer until after Commander Scarlett said that they should figure it out once they get there.

Thus, they began the trek back towards the Cactihedral. It was even later now than it had been when they walked to the house. The stars shone brightly in the sky – though much of that did not make it to the island upon which they tread. Chrysoara’s eyes drifted towards the moon. It was a full moon tonight. For some reason, that made Chrysoara excited. Perhaps it was the symbol of the full moon as a force that pushes and pulls the water. Either way, Chrysoara walked on with his legs feeling stronger than they had in some time. Stronger than they should with the amount of food and rest they had gotten lately. Still, the strength did not mean that his mind was in the right place. As he walked, he slowly began to see the Cactihedral rising in the sky.

There was a crowd outside of the Cactihedral – despite the time of night. It wasn’t large, perhaps fifteen or twenty people though Chrysoara couldn’t tell for sure due to the relative darkness of the night. When he got close enough, Chrysoara could see something in the middle of the small gathered. What was that? The air felt physically heavy with the tension of the gathered crowd. Chrysoara couldn’t hear what they were saying but they were whispering.

Well, at least there was that. Scarlett was beginning to tire after today, and wanted nothing more than some rest, to then continue with things tomorrow, yet the longer they waited the worse things would get. As it was she was getting a tad hungry. Later on she was going to gorge on all the food she could find that she liked. Probably junk food too, though if she wanted to be on the top of her game maybe that was a bad idea... Oh well, it wasn't such a terrible plan.

As they walked, she joined Chrys in looking up at the sky, the moon standing out and making its presence more than known. It was nice, it was like basking in the sun without the risk of butchering your eyesight. She was quite lucky with how keen her eyes were, she didn't want that to degrade at all, else her days of investigating would become very brief. If you didn't have the eyes for it... Well actually, you could just wear glasses she supposed. She wondered if glasses would suit her...

"Hey Chrys, do you thi-... What's going on over there?"

As they grew close to the Cactithedral, there seemed to be some sort of commotion outside. Frowning a little bit, she picked up pace, trying to see what it was the various priests were looking at. Upon realising they weren't budging without her asking, she opted to crouch down to see if she could see beneath them, only to realise that robes tended to make it difficult to see through somebodies legs. Though there was a familiar scent in the air... Her heartrate quickened as she requested some individuals to move aside, managing to part the see of morbidity only to reveal something perhaps even more morbid than a fanciful cult dedicated to the dead, that being an actual dead body. A... Familiar one at that.

"Merde... Chrys, Decca!"

She cried out, calling them over to help as she looked down at the clearly no longer living form of their ex-captive. She clenched her fists, unsure how to act. Was this what Chrys had a bad feeling about? She supposed this was the logical movement for the New Age Priests, but the question was what did that mean for them? She glanced up towards the open doors of the Cactithedral... That'd have to wait she supposed.

Dashing on countless corridors had lead up to this moment. Jeremiah and his escapee posse had been running from the guards for what seemed like hours; with no clock and being inside of extended periods of time, this perception of time had been diluted. Jeremiah had been locked up and experimented on for some time now by the priests he'd recognize as mad scientists. Pumped with chemicals? Mental torture? (That wasn't anything new, this world was living hell for Jeremiah) Amputation? Social experiments? Jeremiah would tick all those boxes, accounting that he'd have been unconscious for most of that time. Blazing a trail down a cavern-like corridor was the Genius and his very recent disciples, whom have bonded quickly to Jeremiah out of fear of re-capture and that he seemed to be the only one calling the shots. He would assume that they had recognized him as the leader naturally due to his sheer presence among the group as the alpha.

The slightly vertical path lead up to a small shroud of light, created by wooden panel flooring emerging from the overhead rock. Where they under a building? That was the logical conclusion that the cyborg would come to. He turned back to face the phalanx that stared blankly at him. Nearly everyone was equipped to fight, rifles in hand or some sort of body modification due to inhumane experimentation, causing each individual to vary in size. Jeremiah crouched down and spoke with a hushed tone.

"Alright, undoubtedly there's even more of those questionably religious fuckers up above. On by mark, shoot through the flooring. If one of you brainless idiots miraculously slips on a banana and blow this operation, i'll take you out back and put you out of your miserable life. With any luck, we'll kill them all in one fell swoop. Then it's goodbye Cactus! Guns at the ready."

Those armed with firearms filed in front of Jeremiah, maintaining eye contact with him, awaiting his instructions. He liked the verge in power, but he could easily see that they didn't obey out of fear, but rather convenience since he knew what to do. They took aim, and with a simple wave of the hand they began to shoot out volleys of bullets and other projectiles, completely rearing open an opening in the wooden boards. Jeremiah knew there might be retaliation, thus threw down a smoke bomb for good measure. Stepping forward, he shot out his grabbing arms, grasping onto the church's overhead banisters and reeling himself towards them, before finally perching his feet atop like a bird. He readied his revolver in his main hand whilst gripping his knife in his off hand, ready for the fight that would ensue Adjusting to the area, he would see that he was indeed in a church once again. He'd also notice the individuals that huddled around the area, mainly priest but a few characters stuck out like a sore thumb: one woman and a fishman. Jeremiah would recognize the uniform the freak wore and visually recoiled in disgust.

"I'm soooo sorry, but today i'll make like Jesus and... turn these priest's into corpses... meheheheh. my confined torture has drained my witty banter..."

“I’m not sure…” Chrysoara said as he squinted his eyes. The group was directly in front of the “What is that…”

Chrysoara muttered to himself as he inched closer to the crowd. As he did so, he could hear the whisperings as one of the Priests turned to face him. It was the man who had so inconspicuously threatened them. His prominent nose and militaristic hair wasn’t the most obvious part about him. It was that dreadful smile. The smile of someone who knew he had won.

Chrysoara didn’t need to pay attention to the whisperings to know what they said. It was them. The marines killed Agnew Respite. They can’t be forgiven. Chrysoara was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t even notice Commander Scarlett speak his name. Chrysoara looked back at Mourner Pelson’s face. Grief stricken. Afraid. Questioning. So many emotions flicked across her face before she was able to put up her mask of joy. Such a strange woman she was, but what did those emotions he had glanced before she hid them mean? Did she no longer trust them?

“Commander…we need to leave. Now.” Chrysoara said, turning his eyes back towards the crowd. They were growing restless and dangerous. His mind immediately went back to the priests on the mountain. They had stabbed him so fast. They had given no warning. The priests on this island were dangerous and they needed to get back. Now!

Chrysoara turned as if to run away. He didn’t make it far before something quite unexpected shattered his world entirely. Bullets sounded from somewhere. The awful echoing of the death machines seemed to surround the fishman. Where was safe! What should he do? Chrysoara had only heard bullets during his training as a marine and he had never used a gun. They were deadly. Deadly.

The Priests! They may have been mad at them but it wasn’t their fault. They were tricked into thinking the marines were killing members of their order. They weren’t the enemy (well, except for that prominent nose jerk. He was definitely the enemy).

Smoke filled the area. Unable to see, Chrysoara squinted his eyes. He didn’t know what else to do in the chaos. Why were the New Age Priests attacking in the open like this? They had them completely outnumbered and had made Commander Scarlett and himself look like the criminals here.

His ears rang from the shots, but Chrysoara thought he heard a familiar voice in the chaos. “What? How’d they manage to escape! Shit! This isn’t good!”

What in the hell was going on?

Of course, to make things even more confusing – that was when another voice spoke up and the gunfire seemed to lighten enough for Chrysoara to feel like he had ears again. So, the priests were the targets. Well, looks like he wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon after-all.

Behind her, Scarlett could hear Chrys calling for them to leave. As she began to listen to what was being said, it became apparent that the blame was falling on them... She cursed quietly, standing up from where she'd knelt to look over the crowd. This would be what they'd been concerned about, but hadn't quite been able to figure out. She supposed it was the logical move, to pin it on them and remove any sign of him being a part of their group... Her heart was hammering in her chest as it finally dawned on her they'd been outplayed well and truly, with only one piece of evidence to prove their evidence... But it was getting there in the first place. The question was, what now? Maybe it was a good idea to flee now, or perhaps they could still salva-

A sudden barrage of gunshots ripped through the floor of the Cactithedral, causing Scarlett to scream loudly in surprise and dart to one side to hide behind the stone of the building away from harm. Her face paled further as she tried to figure out what the hell was going on. Once the gunfire had calmed down, she poked her head through the doorway, watching a singular figure dance around in the smoke, which had proceeded to rush through the door of the building. After it began to clear, his form became apparent, wielding a gun and a knife in his hands. From the hole in the ground, numerous other individuals began to pour forth, climbing out and readying various we- No, those weren't weapons, those were their actual limbs!

"Bloody... Hell... Uh... Who are... What..."

Her words and thoughts scrambled as she tried to figure out what was going on. Suddenly the man yelled out about his plans to kill the priests?! That didn't sound right, the New Age Priests still seemed to wear their gowns and they hadn't expressed plans to actually kill, instead... No, this wasn't right. What was going on?! This didn't add up at all. Slinging her rifle from her back, she held her back firmly to the stone. She didn't want to use this, not at this sort of range and not... No, she'd have to, but what about the priests? Looking over at the ones which had been by the door, she realised most of the docile sods simply stood there and watched, only some beginning to shift.

"Move! Run! Don't just stand there and let them shoot at you!"

She shouted out to them, managing to get a few more of them to move, the rest being dragged along by those that had snapped out of their surprised gaze. Interestingly, there was one individual that seemed less willing to go, moving away before pausing to look back. She shook her head, she couldn't be worrying about everyone. Right now, there were dangerous people inside and if they weren't stopped they'd... They'd kill the priests. The modifications to their bodies matched up perfectly with the New Age Priests and how she'd thought of them, yet something didn't add up at all. No robes, and they looked so sickly... Wait, no, some did wear robes, torn and shredded. That didn't seem right at all.

"What the hell do we do?!"

She shouted out to Chrys, as she loaded a clip into her rifle and aimed it at the door. She couldn't just let these guys kill the priests, but could she really shoot at them?! They didn't even look very healthy, as if they hadn't been taken care of at all. In fact... Wait, the robes, the haggard look... Were these the people that had been disappearing?! Had the New Age Priests been taking cyborgs... No, they'd been making them?! There was no way she could go about killing them though, but... They must have been scared, but there was no way they could simply talk them down. Then, what did she do from here? Should she shoot at them? No, she might get shot back at! She continued to huddle into the wall, her rifle in her lap aimed at the door, visibly shaking and completely unsure how to act. Any sort of movement through the door which appeared hostile would receive an impressive fast bullet heading towards their torso to put them out of action without using deadly force.

"Chrys... I think these might be the people that have been disappearing. There's a good chance they're crazed and confused after their time underground... What do we do?!"
