Jett was gently awoken by the warm rays of the sun shining through the porthole, the swaying of the ship on the waves rocked his hammock side to side as he listened to the cries of the gulls outside. ”Land.” He said groggily underneath his breath in response to the birds cries. Sleeping after sunrise was a luxury that was rarely afford to Jett but the previous two island’s events cause his fatigue to build up. Jett stood out of his hammock and reached for his uniform top, quickly pulling it on before walking out onto the deck. The sky was filled with many seagulls, their cries ringing out near and far, but looking out to the horizon Jett saw no other signs of land. Not thinking too much more about it, Jett walked across the main deck and to the bow of the ship, resting on it as the sea breeze washed away his lethargic state. The ship itself was quite lively, which was to be expected given the relatively late hour Jett had awoken. Although he could not see either of his partners, Eloy and Komei, he knew they would be up and about somewhere. Since he had met the two his live had became more hectic and not really in a good way, the two were involved with an internal struggle with a government organisation that kidnapped children. It disturbed Jett greatly but he couldn’t turned his back on the children once he had become privy to the fact. Eloy and Komei were the only good thing to come from the situation, the two were a few years younger than Jett but they were his superiors. More importantly, the two had shown they could be trusted and would have Jett;s back in the worst case scenario and that was exactly what he’d been looking for as he drifted from base to base. Jett’s respite in the breeze was broken as he was called for from his side, looking at the source of the voice, Jett found a marine standing there holding a den den mushi. ”There is a call for you.” The marine held out the den den mushi for Jett to take. Jett treated the call with caution, unsure why he would be contacted, was it something to do with Epsilon. Jett took the snail, slowly raising the receiver to his mouth. ”This is Jett.” He waited in anticipation for who was on the other end. ”Ah, Jett! You’re a hard man to find. This is Commodore Kaine Elliott, I hope I find you in good health!” The voice was deep but had a cheerful tone to it. Jett’s tensed shoulders relaxed, his fears of another run in with epsilon fading fast. ”I have no complaints sir.” ”Good, good. Well you’ll be pleased to know this a call of good tidings.” Although the commodore’s words were just a figure of speech, to Jett just a little good news would go a long way. ”For your actions in keeping the citizens safe at the Chateau of Spades, you will now be known as Ensign Jett King.” The title of the rank, though not really much to brag about, brought a smile to Jett’s face. ”Thank you sir!” The promotion now put him on level footing with his two partners, being equals had a nice ring to it. ”Don’t mention it, keep up the good work. Now I hear you’re travelling with Ensign Eloy Yvan and Ensign … …Respond! We are in urgen…. though he is better known as Komei, it that correct?” The den den mushi had some sort of interference, the message intercepted sound hectic and the districted differences in the voices was hard to miss. Jett waited a while before he answered, hoping for another message to appear. With no sign of the mysterious voice, Jett responded not wanting to keep the commodore waiting. ”Yeah, I’m with both Eloy and Komei though not right this minute.” ”Okay, good. Could you pass the den den mushi to……ments! Boothill Island is under attack! Respond!..…Are you there Jett?” There it was again, the message this time clearer than before. Jett looked around the ship from his position, pin pointing the navigator before rushing to him, handing of the den den mushi to the marine standing with him. The navigator was at the other side of the ship, ensure it was on course on going steady. Jett’s panicked arrived gained the attention of the marines in the immediate area. ”We need to get to Boothill Island, there’s been a distress call. Are we far?” Jett didn’t know much of his surrounding area and hoped that the navigator could shed some light on the situation. ”We’re close, it’s just to the east.” The navigator assured Jett before calling the surrounding marines into action, changing the ships course to the location of the distress call. |

Eloy opened one eye as he heard the sounds of seagull. Were they close to land or something? Eloy really wasn't in a crime fighting mood. Normally, he'd be the first to wake early in order to get his morning Tai-Chi session in. But no, not today. After all the missions and murder, he just felt that he needed time to himself. He rolled over in bed and placed his pillow over his head. A minute or two would pass and with a long drawn out 'sigh' he finally started to drag himself out of bed. He prayed that there wouldn't be any drama involving Epsilon or his cousins. A simple neighborhood rumble with a bunch of low-life pirates sounded like heaven. Opening his wardrobe, he would place on his wife-beater and a green bomber jacket over it. Dressing himself, he would then leave the cabin. The sun would hit him in the face, but it wasn't so bad, it was actually a nice day today. Eloy would see that Jett was speaking to someone on a transponder. He slowly walked up and would casually lean against the bulwark. The first thing he would hear was "Commodore Kaine Elliott." He wasn't sure who she was, but he figured that she would give them their next mission briefing or something along those lines. As a reward for his efforts, Jett would be promoted to Ensign. Rightfully so, Jett has been a great help these passed few missions. Eloy would nod and wink at him. The Commodore would bring up his name as well as Komei's before something that sounded like interference cut her off. Eloy gave a curious look. It sounded like someone was asking for help, but he wasn't quite sure. The interference would happen again. This time, it was easier to hear. Somewhere called Boothill Island was under siege. Eloy stopped leaning and would stand up straight, looking at Jett intently. Jett would announce that they would need to get to Boothill Island and asked if said island was nearby. The navigator of the ship would state that they were close, before changing the ship's direction. "Good thing the Commodore called when she did. Or we might not have heard their distress call." Eloy reached into his back pocket and pulled out his metal plated battle gloves. He would put them on and punch his palm. He would then give a smirk. "Awe yeah baby, an island battle. No mystery, no special victims, no Epsilon." |

Another sleepless night. Unlike his allies, who was clearly spent physically, or for Eloy emotionally, over the ordeals they have been through, Komei woke up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. Another nightmare of facing Epsilon, of their capabilities and their kidnapping of helpless children. Fear has gripped him psychologically, that much was clear, and even under his attempts to hide it, he knew well enough those fear were well established. Epsilon seems to fill its rank with individuals that are exceptional, and he did not know if he could face such foes in the future. What was more troubling was the fact their last mission saw the division go by another path. Not sure whether it was a sanctioned move, or simply an individual who deemed it necessary to eliminate the trio, their last island found them facing an Epsilon agent who took over the entire island just to kill three of them. It was an extreme move on their part, killing of a Marine Captain while putting the three in the crosshairs. That meant they always have to look over their shoulders from now on. Now, however, Komei was left looking over the railings of the boat they managed to go on immediately after the ending of their last adventures. With the moon about to descend over the ocean line, it was clear he would not be able to sleep any longer. His mind played on their current situation, whether it was going to end in their deaths. If that was the case, he would work to bring down the division themselves, after what they have been doing. Whether sanctioned by the government or not, he would not let them simply kidnap children, placing them in captivity and brainwashing them. That was the only situation he could imagine, with their last foe seemingly having a unique ability of control. If his guess was right, it must be the reason why this division is taking hold of children with unique abilities. Before he even realized, the sun was already up, and people was beginning to move around on deck. Being a Marine vessel that was no surprise, but what was surprising was a Marine approaching him with something in his hands. “ Sir, two letters for you.” He stated as he passed the letters to Komei. With a nod of thanks, he took it, opening the first, reading what was written. And he could only smile at the sight of it. It would seem he was again, promoted for his assistance at the Chateau of Spades, and due to his leadership, he was now a Lieutenant Junior Grade. He would have thought Epsilon would force themselves away from getting a higher rank, but it would seem even they did not want to show their hands in that island. It even stated Eloy being promoted as well, showing how their paths were going in the same pattern. He would have to show this to Eloy then. The second letter, apparently handwritten, was more refined. Even the paper seemingly was more expensive. Careful to open it, he found something much interesting. A letter from someone he knows, a teacher of his, congratulating him for his rapid promotion. It reads:
Komei could not help but feel a burst of pride, seeing his teacher actually passing a message to him in such a way. He would have to remember to return with a message of thanks when he could. Without warning, a sudden outburst of activity gained his attention, in which he could see his two comrades in the middle of it. Shaking away the remaining fatigue of his body, Komei wondered if this was again Epsilon, but he inferred after the last situation they were in, he doubted they would make a move so openly on them. Maybe they will finally be rid of having Epsilon over their backs. Komei instantly moved towards the duo, trying his best to appear fresh, even if his eyes was beginning to have shades of darkness over them. He did, however, give a brief smile to Eloy as he passed him the letter he received, the sender being the Marine base themselves. ” You’ll enjoy this.” He stated with a grin, looking at his reaction before turning his attention to Jett. ” What’s going on? Seems like we are turning from our original course. Something happened” Komei asked, looking at the two, since he just arrived and did not get to hear in on their chat with whoever it was Jett was on the communications with. The momentum of the ship quickly changed as many marines sprung into action before it settled down again with the ship on it's new course. The distress call seemed to build up some excitement within Eloy as he pulled on his gloves, his excitement was due to the fact that they would most likely not run into epsilon. The mention of it brought slight dread to Jett, their last mission was a ploy by the division just to lure the trio into a trap and kill them. It wasn't out of the realm of reality that it would be the case again this time but they couldn't turn their back on the call for help. Whether they liked it or not, Epsilon was part of their life now and they would have to deal with them when they appeared. Komei turned up slightly late to the situation, passing on a letter to Eloy and asking what was going on. "We've received a distress call of sorts. The call was intercepted whilst I was on the call to a commodore, there something more than meets the eye." Jett explained to his partner. Upon the horizon the island slowly crept into view, it was relatively small with a mountain taking up the majority of the landmass. The only other thing of note was the large castle like tower that stood on the east end of the island, a large seagull painted across it's sign as the symbol of the marines. Such a fortress calling for help was worrying to say the least but they had to help however they could. It wasn't long before the ship reached port, which was eerily empty. Disembarking Jett looked around for someone, anyone, to find out just what was going on. They had been docked a good couple of minutes before a marine from the island could be seen and once he noticed the ship he quickly ran to the ship in a panic. "Someone came, we've been calling for help for hours with no response." Jett moved in closer to see what was going on. "Well we're here now. Maybe lead us to the base and whoever is in charge." The marine nodded and began to guide Jett to the fortress he could see as they approached the island. Jett turned and signalled to ELoy and Komei to follow before he followed the marine. The walk to the base didn't take long but the towering structure was a marvel up close, it looked impregnable and had cannons dotted up and down the walls making it the perfect defence from outside attacks. The marine led the trio into the base and to the top of the tower. Stepping out onto the top of the tower, Jett was met with strong high winds that were enough to push him back slightly. A head of him was a marine captain, towering over the rest of the marines in his presence. The captain was stood at a table with a map of the island with several markers on its surface, seemingly tactics for whatever was the problem. It was then that Jett noticed a sole ship on the horizon, anchored in one spot, flying a black flag. The ship itself was too imposing and the fort on the island seemed like more than enough to deal with the ship but it had a corresponding marker on the map, signalling it posed a threat. The captain noticed the approaching trio, leaving the table to great them. ”Seems like someone has finally responded to our distress call. How many of there are you?” The captain was clearly wondering about numbers as he was anticipating a battle. Their ship didn’t boast great numbers and of those on board, most were medics being a medical ship, their overall battle presence was probably far from what the captain hoped. ”Including ourselves, there is roughly forty men. The ship is a medical ship though.” The captain let out a sigh and walked to the edge of the tower looking out at the pirate ship. ”We could’ve used a battleship right now. Although that ship is small, it packs a lot of power. It’s already sunk two of the ships on this island.” The captain turned back to the trio before continuing. ”The ship itself belongs to Baron pirates fleet, it’s currently anchored just outside of our range. We believe it’s waiting on reinforcements, which is worrying.” The captain drew closer and lowered his voice so only those close enough could hear. ”The island is currently in possession of a large amount of gold, property of the World Government which is due to be moved in three days time. We don’t know how they know about it as this is classified information but it seems the Baron pirates have targeted it. To make matters so much worse, the fortress is low on supplies. We don’t have the artillery we need should the island be attacked by multiple ships.” The situation was clearly worrying the captain. Jett couldn’t help but feel for him, things looked dire and even their calls for help fell on deaf ears. What worried Jett more, and he felt the captain felt the same way, was that more than anything else it seemed like sabotage. Someone internally had leaked the information about the gold and is doing all they can to ensure the island is as vulnerable as possible. ”Feel free to use us as you see fit and any supplies from our ship are free for you to use.” The captain nodded before walking back to the table. Jett turned to address his partners. ”This seems like an inside job to me, what do you guys think?” Jett looked around at the marines, trying to find someone who looked suspicious but it would never be that easy. ”We should take a look around to see if we can find any clues to prove it. I doubt we’ll have long before the reinforcements arrive, the last thing we want is someone stabbing us in the back during a battle.” |

Komei would make his way towards them. Eloy looked over and would nod with a smile. "Morning." He said, noticing a slight look of fatigue in Komei's eyes. Was he alright? It would make sense if he weren't. They had been through a lot. Eloy would reach out and grab the letter from Komei before opening it. "Oh, no way." He smiled and then gave a somber look. They were rising in the ranks quickly, it made him some what worried. More would be expected from them as time went on. But this is what they signed up for and Eloy had a good feeling about today. Jett would explain the situation to Komei as their ship slowly crept upon said island that was under siege. The island itself was small. A large mountain with a tower like fortress loomed over, clearly the Marine base. As they docked, the place seemed rather empty. Eloy gave a curious look as he followed Jett off of the ship. His guard was up, something definitely felt off. They wouldn't have to wait too long before a lone Marine saw them and ran up, letting them know that they had been seeking help for hours now. Jett would respond by asking the guy to lead them to their Captain/leader. The walk to the tower didn't take too long and the out-powering of resistance made Eloy wonder why they were in distress. Up close, the tower looked as if nothing could possibly get in or out. As they scaled the tower and made their way to the top, Eloy could see another ship out in the distance. "Yeah, that's not a Marine ship. And the flag is a giveaway." He said nonchalantly under his breath. He would then turn his attention to the Captain and the map that was laid out in front of him. The first thing the captain would ask was how many of them were there. Eloy himself wasn't quite sure so he would let his comrades answer that question. Jett would respond by saying that there were roughly forty men, but the ship was a medic ship. The Captain would bring up the interesting fact at how although the enemy ship was small, it was packing a lot of heat. The ship belonged to the Baron Pirates and their ship was currently out of firing range. The reason why they're waiting was possibly due to reinforcements being needed. "Probably don't have the man-power to rush the island." Eloy said as he leaned his head towards Komei. "That or they're just being cautious." To make matters more interesting, they apparently were after a loot of gold. Go figure. Gold that belonged to the Government. Eloy wondered from who and how they obtained the gold, but that wasn't the focus right now. The Baron Pirates were somehow able to disclose intel on said gold. How exactly? That remained to be seen. The fortress is low on supplies and they don't have enough artillery to fend of a multi-faceted attack. Eloy crossed his arms as Jett responded. The trio would help by allowing the Captain to use their supplies from their medical-ship. He would then turn to face himself and Komei. He would respond to his question about this being an inside job. Eloy nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that seems to be the most logical thing. I mean, we don't know how the Marines got a hold of this gold and or if they slighted anyone. Are their other inhabitants of this island?" Jett would then suggest that they take initiative towards finding a possible bug. The tower and some of the island would probably need to be investigated as well. Should they split up again? Would they need the comm-links from their last mission? |

With Jett explanation, Komei felt it was exceedingly close to the situation they had previously. For a moment, he was worried that again, it was a trap, but the fact they got the information by luck seems to not be the case. At the very least, it would seem like there was an island in need of assistance. What's more, their arrival on land gave him even more chills. From what Jett has said, it was clear this place was under attack, yet there was barely anyone here. It was only when he saw a Marine running to them he breathed a sigh of relief. Looks like Epsilon was not in this situation at this point. He followed in silence, keeping his guard up. He ensured the rifle he took from the ship was loaded. In their situation, Komei would not risk to be taken off guard again. They finally approached the apparent captain of this island, with the newly promoted Marine marvelling the sight of this place. A fortress, one no doubt meant to hold out against a siege. It could only mean one of two things, either someone here was extravagant, or this place has always been under attack. Either way, he knew well enough now what was the issue. A ship over the horizon, bigger than most ships he has sailed. For some reason, they were still a distance away, and even if they were waiting for reinforcements, why would they be letting the island gain more men as well? " Seems weird for someone who is waiting for reinforcements to let you guys get reinforced instead. Not to mention the lack of any sort of siege mentality from the enemy. Could be trying to bait you out." Komei stated as he looked over at the ship. There was barely anything but water in between the island and the ship, which poses plenty of questions. Why would they simply let the island be reinforced? With only the castle being the best defense, they should have been bombarding this place with their cannons. Yet, all they do is wait there. Curious. " Maybe you should get some men to patrol the outskirt, Captain. Would not want any of the pirates to sneak onto land." He advised before moving towards his two allies. It was rather clear the both of them had doubts over the situation, Jett questioning the loyalty of the Marines here, while Eloy seems to be more worried about the gold that was apparently under Marine protection. Both had a point, seeing that the reason the pirates are here was because of those specific points, but Komei wondered just how deep this could go. " Even if there is a mole in this island, I doubt he would show his hand too early. That Marine from before, he did say they have been calling for help for hours, no? We should check on why their communications are down. As for the gold, whether it was taken by force or other means, we have a duty to ensure the safety of this island." Komei replied, although he turned to eye the pirate ship again. His curosity was growing. What are they waiting for? Reinforcements? Or maybe something to happen on this island while they are distracted? " Whatever is the case, the pirates would not move until something happens. And until then, we have to find out some information so we can retaliate when necessary. Even if this place looks defendable, if someone were to simply open the gates, all is lost." He added on, looking over now to the captain of the island. " How many men are under your command, Captain? And are there any ships left?" |

Both Eloy and Komei made some good but worrying points, if the pirates were waiting for reinforcements to then rush the island then it could spell the end for the group. On the other hand keeping themselves out there as a way to occupy the attention of the base while they send in a small infiltration group, was possibly just a dangerous. Komei put his suggestions to the captain who nodded to him before relaying the orders on to his subordinates. After Jett suggested that they take a look around, Eloy voiced his concerns as to the original of the gold in the base. It was something that had crossed Jett’s mind, the world government was by no means the most noble of organisations but the same could be said for any sort of group of considerable size. Regardless they had to protect it as their duty and without concrete proof or otherwise, they had no right to return it to it’s rightful ower(s). Komei suggested that they head to see what is up with the communications, it made most sense and a it gave them somewhere to start. Jett nodded at the suggestion. ”Okay, we’ll head to the comms room first and then we’ll move on from there.” With a plan in place Jett was ready to move out but first Komei had a couple of last questions for the captain. He asked how many men where on the base and how many ships they had. The captain let out a sigh and his head and shoulder dropped before he stood up straight and faced the trio once more. ”Currently we have about three hundred men but we lost about fifty when the ship first arrived. Hoisting a black flag and sitting on the horizon, we were forced into action launching a volley of cannon fire from the tower but not one attack reached the target. All attacks fell short by just a couple feet. After that I sent out two of the three ships on the island to engage it but we ended up losing our ships and many good men in the process. As things stand, we have two ships, including your own.” The captain’s attitude felt almost defeated, it worried Jett. The attitude of the captain would trickle down to his men, if he didn’t have the belief to win then neither would his men. Before Jett took leave of the rooftop he waited to see if Komei had anything to say about the state of things. |

Komei would bring up the fact that it was weird for the Baron Pirates to risk their target island gaining more allies while they wait. This fact was true. Komei would then suggest what Eloy himself questioned. Patrolling the rest of the island was clearly a necessary goal if they wanted to be successful in this mission. Komei would focus his attention towards Jett and himself to which Eloy looked at Komei intently. Komei would suggest finding out why the island's communications were down and that they basically had a duty to help out as much as they could. Eloy would nod to this. He subtly looked back at the Baron Pirate's ship, secretly hoping that he'd get the chance to infiltrate and bring them down from the inside out. Jett would let them know that they would check out the communications of the island, but before that, Komei would go on about the pirates and this island's defenses before asking the Captain about how many men he had under his control and how many ships he had left. They had about three-hundred but lost fifty when the pirates attacked. They tried to retaliate but lost two shots so now, he only has two left, including their own. The Captain had a rather dejected look on his face, clearly the pressure was getting to him. That being said, their S.O.S had been answered and the three of them were here now, so if anything, at least it meant a fighting chance for this island. Eloy really didn't have much to say, the plan was laid out and their objectives were pretty straight forward. |

The reply from the captain made Komei think deeply for a second. Losing ships against a sole pirate ship was questionable, to say the least, but it would affect the whole morale of the Marines here. They still had a decent number of men, true, but naval advantage is over to the pirates. It made sense now why they did not launch an attack immediately after succeeding in beating back the naval defense, but nonetheless, the question on why the pirates chose to instead stay a distance away, not bombarding the island to weaken their resolve and defense was still there. It meant what they were worried about was possible, a mole within the defenders. Attacking at random may kill their mole, thus making the battle harder for the pirates. It left no other alternative but to wait for reinforcements before moving against the marines. ” Since they have not attempted to attack us, I would advise you to use one of your ships to move to the opposite direction from the pirates. Since your communications have been compromised, you need to get assistance from another island. The Medical ship we are in are decent in speed, and as long as they don’t face the enemy head on, I am sure they could find more reinforcements. There is only one pirate ship after all, and the likelihood we approach in a naval battle is unlikely. Our best bet is a staunch defence.” Komei informed the captain, finally returning his mind to the task at hand. ” We need to smoke out the mole. Put them on the corner. And after what happened the last time, we will avoid splitting up this time around. Let’s get moving to the communications. Maybe we’ll find something useful there.” He added, although his mind was working on other possibilities. Aside from communications, if there is a mole, the chances of them showing themselves would only be when they are initiating their plan, or specifically the gold stashed away here. They would have to discover their enemy quickly, if not they would be in more trouble. ” Captain, would you mind giving us one of your men to lead us towards the communications area?” Komei asked the older man politely. |

For the short amount of time that Jett had been travelling with his companions, nothing impressed him more than Komei’s tactical ability, it seemed to come to the young marine with such ease and even gained the ear of what seemed like a seasoned marine captain. The captained raised an eye brow as Komei suggested that he send the medical ship they arrived on out to another island, in the opposite direction to which the pirate ship was waiting. ”These is an island that we often get our supplies from not too far from here, still it may take a day or more to get there and back by ship depending on the winds. I’ll get men on it.” The captain turned and began to round up a couple marines, giving them their orders and sending the on their way. Komei suggested that they stay in group this time around, to avoid the disaster they faced in the last island, to which Jett couldn’t agree more. ”I agree, regardless of how bad things went last time, we have much less ground to cover here. Though much like last time, we don’t know who is an enemy and who is an ally.” Jett’s caution was worrying to himself, they would have to carry out an investigation without raising any suspicion. If they accused anyone wrongly then they could turn the whole base against them and after that, revealing the mole will be almost impossible. All that is without going mentioning what the implications would do to minds of the marines while there are expected to fight side by side whilst under attack. Those seeds of doubt planted in their minds could be enough to cause the down fall of the fortress. Komei asked for an escort to the communications room which was promptly given as they were guided back down into the fortress. The corridors were dark, lit only by flame torches hung on the wall. Each floor’s corridor led around in a spiral shape with door’s either side leading to many different rooms either closer to the centre of facing out to the island. After walking down three flights of stairs the marine stopped outside a door then led in to the communications room. ”The commander is in charge of the communications, he’ll take it from here.” Jett nodded as he entered the room. The communications room itself was manned by three people, two of which were sat at a table relaying the same distress call that Jett had heard. Each time the marines requested someone to respond they would wait a while before trying again the message We are in urgent need for reinforcements! Boothill IIsland is under attack! Respond! The marines looked worn out and running on fumes while in the corner of the room was a tall man with slicked back blonde hair, watching over then two. It was clear he was the commander. As the trio entered the room the commander took instant notice and was immediately on guard. ”Who are you three, I don’t recall your faces on base?” Jett took the lead in introducing himself first, saluting to his superior. ”Ensign Jett King! This is Ensign Komei and Eloy, we received the distress call but the captain tells us you are struggling to get a response.” The introduction and mention of meeting the captain seemed to but the commanders worries to be, his serious demeanour replaced with a more lax on as a smile decorated his lips, he returned the salute. ”Commander Evergreen, we’re happy with any help you can offer. As things stand we aren’t in the greatest of predicaments. Ever since the pirate took out our ships I’ve been hold down here with these two our priority is reinforcements.” The commander sighed then took in a deep breath. ”But things aren’t looking to good but you guys arrived, that good news I suppose.” The commander smiled at the trio but it was obviously forced, after all they couldn’t really do much to help them on their own. ”Well we’ll do what we have to to help. Mind if we look around?” The commander stepped back and opened his arms as a gesture to do as they please. ”Anything you can do would be a great help.” Jett himself knew nothing about how the transponder snails work other than there being some sort of telepathic connection. Was there something that could disrupt that? He didn’t know. Turning to his companions he’s wondered what their thoughts were. ”I don’t know too much about these kinds of things but everything seems like it should be perfectly functional. What’s your thought?” |

Komei would suggest for the Captain to use one of his ships to head out in the opposite direction of the pirates, in order to search for help. Seemed logical enough. That being said, one less ship meant one less chance they'd actually have at chasing down the pirate's ship. But perhaps that would't be necessary. There were still a lot of unknowns at this point, but doing something was probably more prudent then ding nothing. Defense at this point was the name of the game. And Eloy understood that the best defense was sometimes the best offense. There was an island nearby that this island got it's supplies from, but it was a day or so away. That really didn't seem too bad to Eloy. Most islands take longer to get to. The only question was whether or not this island could hold out for that long. Their other objective would be to ferret out the possible betrayer. Because of all the trouble they had on the last island, they wouldn't be splitting up this time around. Eloy nodded at this, feeling that it was a good thing for them to stick together. They were still unaware of what these pirates can actually do, beyond their ship. Finally, Komei would ask to be directed towards their communications. The trio would be lead down a dark corridor lit only by torchlight. After walking down three flights of stairs, and entering though a door, they would finally make their way into the communication's room. Eloy looked at the marines working on the distress call. The same one that they accidentally heard before arriving. Had they been working this entire time? The poor guys looked worn out. The commander, who was a tall man with slick blond hair (somewhat resembling his own), would approach and ask who they were. Jett would do the honors of introducing the three of them and letting him know that they heard their distress call. Eloy would follow suit with a salute. The commander would introduce himself as Evergreen. He seemed to be pleased that help had arrived. Jett asked if they could look around to which the commander permitted. Lastly, Jett would turn to himself and Komei and ask about the transponders, considering the fact that he didn't know too much about them. Eloy had some experience, but not a whole lot. He was still set on exploring outside of the fortress. "I'd say that there's some sort of outside interference." He responded while looking around. "Maybe from the pirate's ship itself? That or some sort of interceptor on the island itself." Edited by DiaDia, Apr 23 2018, 12:59 PM.

Komei stood silent for a while, curious about the situation here. The fact the communications have been interrupted meant something or someone was blocking them. The fact there is a mole could be the answer to that, but the pirates not attacking the island was still weird. If they had a mole, why not launch an attack instead of simply waiting? No matter how much they tried, communications could only be blocked when the distance is too far from the other side. True, it was by chance they came across the island, but it was such a chance that gave the Marines a fighting chance now. " It would have to be from the mole here. I doubt the pirates would have the capabilities to block transmissions. Even if that were the case, they would be closer to the island, instead of stationing themselves a distance away. I don't recall hearing of any weaponry to block communications from that far. We should assume the mole here has been trying to jam the communications to ensure the pirates would have the chance to strike when neeeded." Komei replied, no doubt in deep thought over the current situation. Which meant as long as the jammer is up, reinforcements would be unavailable. Finding out where the jammer is would be the only way for them to proceed. True, they were moving people to find reinforcements from the nearby island, but that itself should not be enough. Besides, the fact there is a mole meant there is a chance the pirates may block that off, which meant relief may not be coming too early. " We have to find the jammer. Getting a relief force to assist us is paramount for the situation. The pirates have naval advantage, so we need to regain the initiative. Our ground force would not hold, especially if they decide to starve us out." The young tactician added on, looking at the screens of the communcation area. There were a few screens that showed something like the area surrounding the island, blipping green where the enemy ship was. That meant scanners still work, so whatever the jammer was, it only affected communications. " Jammers are usually placed in an area close to communcations. Since there is no sign of anything other than communications being blocked, it must be a distance from here that only transmissions get blocked. Commander, is there any area that would be capable of hiding it? I can only assume the jammer would be a noticeable item, probably hidden somewhere no one would come across it." Komei asked, curious as to their next move. |

Despite Jett’s knowledge of communications, or lack there of, it didn’t hinder their investigation too much with both Komei and Eloy weighing in with their own ideas. The former of the two had what seemed like a deeper insight to the inner workings of things as he began to talk about how the jammer would work, as well as mentioning the mole. Any traitor inside the marines were bad news, corruption was one thing but an traitor would be actively working against the marines instead of just working to further their own goals. Eloy’s idea was the complete opposite to Komei’s suggesting that the pirates most likely held something to mess with the communications. Jett raised his hand to the bridge of his nose, slightly pinching it between his thumb and index finger and closing his eyes he began thinking about each of the theories. If he had to pick one of them he would favour the latter, while there was a mole, blocking all communications from close range would be hard to do. Still they had to rule out Komei’s suggestion first, as it was in their power to do something about it. As the trio spoke, Evergreen listened in on their conversation nodding at each point that was made and waited for a break in their talk before he spoke up himself. ”I fear about your theory of a mole but it’s hard to argue given everything that has happened. Though I do agree with Komei here, unless those backwater pirates have some technology that even we have yet to discover, then and device to black communications would be within the base.” The commander let out a heavy sigh and shook his head at the thought. ”We have yet to inspect around the room but feel free to look. Tear apart the room and take apart the equipment if you need to, our first priority is finding that jammer.” Evergreen ran his hand through his hair before he returned to where he once stood when they first entered the room. Jett looked around, the sound of the marines still trying in vain to reach out for help was the only real sound that filled the room. Evergreen mentioned taking apart all the devices in the room but the marine feared doing so without real knowledge of how it all worked. That being said there were a few things he did know, the electronic equipment that the base would use would have a lot of wiring that would be hidden and tucked away behind their reinforced steel bases. ”Well I suppose we should get to work and look for anything suspicious.” Jett suggested to his partners as he walked to a machine and began to unhinge the panels at it’s base. The inside, much like Jett had suspected, was filled with wires but nothing looked out of place. Or did it? How would he know? What kind of device was he looking for? What would it look like? If it looked like a wire, then how would he know the difference? Jett scratched his head as the many questioned flooded into his mind, unable to answer even one of them. As the white haired marine was about to ask his two juniors what to look for, he was interrupted but various shouting coming from within the base. The same message relayed over and over again, each time the call getting louder and closer until a marine came inside the communication room. ”Sails spotted on the horizon, more pirates.” Jett quickly jumped to his feet calling out to the messenger marine to stopping from moving on. ”Hold on! How many ships are there?” The messenger stopped himself from moving on to answer Jett. ”Just the one, smaller than the first ship but waiting outside our range as well.” Evergreen stepped forward ”They’re not attacking after their reinforcements have arrived? I fear there may be more to come.” The messenger nodded to the commander before running off down the corridor, continuing his effort to relay the message to all in the base. If the commander was right, things weren’t looking good. ”I fear we may not have the time to find this device, whatever it even is, the island will be under attack before our ship even reaches the next island over.” Jett was more versed to battling which is probably why he favoured to defend the base but he wasn’t blind to the importance of getting the communications back up and running and finding the mole. ”We should look to finding the mole, once we know we can trust everyone we can defend this place at full strength.” |

Komei was certain that the mole was the culprit in terms of communication jamming. He also felt it was prudent to assume that the mole was simply trying to help the pirates invade by jamming said signals. Finding the jammer was clearly the first priority since the pirates had the naval advantage. Feeling as though the jammer would be located not too far off from where they were, Komei would continue to question the Commander. Evergreen agreed that there was probably a jammer some where nearby within the base. He would give the trio permission to search this room as much as possible. It was time to get to work. And as tedious as it seemed, they would have to thoroughly look within the unhinged equipment in this room and look for anything suspicious. Eloy crossed his arms as he wondered how long this would all take. Just as soon as he was going to hunker down and get to work, he heard a slight noise coming from the other side of the door. Eloy stopped what he was doing and eyed the door, unsure if it had anything to do with them. At that second, a Marine would enter the room, stating that another pirate was ship was approaching. Eloy's eyes widened. "So suddenly..." He said as Jett yelled out, asking how many ships there were. The Marine would respond by explaining that there was only one. Which meant that they were up against two ships (for now). Evergreen would question the fact that they weren't attacking even though their reinforcements technically had arrived already. Jett would state that they will no longer have the time to find the jamming device. This was true, time was clearly running out and they would have to act now. Jett felt as if finding the mole should now be their number one priority in order to get the communications back up. "What approach should we take?" He asked. "We don't want them to know that we're onto them. If only there were some way we can catch them in the act. Perhaps....lead them into a false sense of security..." A few ideas were swirling around in Eloy's head. He would then look around the control room and all of the lights and flashing. "Commander, where does this base get it's power from? Is there some sort of breaker room where the generator is located? It might be a long shot but perhaps we can bait the mole out of hiding, if we hit the reset button and knock out the power to this entire place.....without letting anyone know....not even the Captain." Call it a hunch but thanks to his father, Eloy already had an innate mistrust of authority figures. Edited by DiaDia, May 3 2018, 08:55 PM.

Significantly bad news, Komei’s reaction to hearing the enemy has been reinforced was not of surprise, but of worry. Yet, there was little to worry, with the enemy still unwilling to commit to an attack. Why was that the case? Another ship would join them? Or were they waiting for the spy to prove his or her usefulness? Their movements made little sense, preferring to wait for something. He could only hope his advice of sending one of their own ships out was already done by the time this happened. Returning his mind to the current situation, Komei wondered if finding the jammer would prove helpful. They are wasting too much time, and time is what they lack of. Eloy’s idea seemed to make sense, with the chance of baiting out the mole quite likely. If the jammer was truly from the pirates, then they would immediately move to attack. If not, then the spy would react expectedly. The mole’s objective is to ensure communications are cut, and if he failed, the pirates would think the mole was a traitor. It worked to their advantage. ” I agree with Eloy’s plan. Resetting the communications would cause the jammer to be unable to tap into it, and once it is powered back up, you would probably have a few minutes before the jammer would trace back the signal. We could probably smoke out the mole, go to a lookout spot which gives us vision throughout this place, exits and wherever else. As soon as someone acts suspiciously, we can apprehend the enemy.” Komei reasoned, believing it was their best bet at the moment. With the whereabouts of the jammer unknown, all they could do is react to someone’s reactions. That way, they could stop not only the jammer, but the mole from possibly causing the lost of this island. He doubted they had much time, with the pirates probably readying themselves for battle at this very moment. ” Commander! Do it! And broadcast through every comm set after you reset it. That should make the mole sweat, and feel extremely anxious. Tell them communications are restored and reinforcements are on the way. That should lift the morale of the men.” He added, immediately rushing out of the door to find a good place to lookout. The jammer had to be in the base, which means anyone feeling anything else but relief over the news would start acting in a rush. The mole will have to show his hand, especially with little else. He understood Eloy's wish to not inform the captain. After what they encountered, it was only fair, but nonetheless, it was time for them to react to the situation given. |
