Gunsmoke Island was a dump. Why had he even come here? Sabu could hear the sounds of shouting outside, civilians taking to the streets to protest the current regime over... Gah, who even knew anymore. That was the thing about Gunsmoke after all, the party in power was never one to last very long. Gunsmoke City, at the center of the island, was thus naturally almost always in a state of perpetual rioting. Thankfully, there were ways to escape all of the turmoil, as Sabu now had by ducking out of the main streets and hunkering down in a hole-in-the-wall Ramen shop. The smell of burning bricks and mortar felt far away when he was sitting with a bowl of steaming Ramen heaped in front of him. "Damn sticks" he grumbled as he stared down at the noodle-laden bowl, his spasming as he tried to use his chopsticks to pick up a serving of noddles and pork out of the broth. His sensei would have beat him up and down the alley if he could see him now. The man growled as he slowly picked up a helping of noodles, inching his open mouth closer to the food, only for his cargo to fall away back into the bowl. Enraged, the bounty hunter looked up to the eldery owner, "Where are the forks old man? Just give me a fork!" the swordsman snarked, though the owner just stared off into the distance as if he wasn't all there. Sabu grumbled, at least it was cheap. He was dirt broke these days. The man sighed as he thought about his poor life choices for a moment. Meekly, the swordsman managed to scoop up a few noodles from the broth and guide them into his mouth. As he sat at the bar with the other patrons, he could hear a group of loud young folk bustling in through the sliding door, "Ja! It's true! That big shot pirate is here to dig up his treasure, it's the perfect time to with how the island is in chaos" the sound of one of the nazi party members told his colleagues as he sat down at one of the open tables. Sabu's eyes perked up, "Gunsmoke nazis... I hate Gunsmoke nazis..." he grumbled, noting the potential lead before looking back down at his bowl of ramen and trying once again to get a good hold of it. |

Gunsmoke Island, Ignatius hadn't particular meant to land on this island but due to his navigational skills lacking in comparison to his cooking it seemed fate had landed him here. Even as he had traveled from the shore's of the Island he could hear the array of voices piercing his ear's from afar and he would smile while thinking this was a good sign as such things usually meant the cranial activity of the island was high, the perfect beginning to jump start his long career as a marine officer. By the time he had made it to Gunsmoke City that lied in the center of the Island he could feel his stomach shrinking and gnawing at him from the inside, he wasn't all to bothered by the feeling though as he has felt a much more intenser feeling of hunger in his life but still he would begun to walk around the cities street's while actively looking for a place to ease his empty stomach. As he walked the streets it wouldn't be long until he encountered a large group of rioters near a water fountain and in his attempt of trying to stay out of sight he would stay at the back of the crowds while listening in to a civilian who had the attire of someone who could easily be identified as a nationalist raving on with his words, "GUNSMOKE ISLAND NEEDS TO BE FREED OF THE WORLD GOVERNMENT, WHO'S WITH ME!!" The man would yell out causing the crowd around him to intensify with cheer's of fellow sympathizer's, although he could understand the sentiment of wanting freedom if the world government completely let the island be then pirate's would run amok on it claiming it's territory and the already bad state of the island would turn to utter chaos more so then it already was. Ignatius would look around the crowd to see if everyone had agreed with the nationalist civilian's words and he could spot two others in the crowd who weren't as hyped up as the rest of the people, in matter of fact they both wore smirking face's as if they found the whole ordeal amusing to them which also heightened Ignatius's curiosity about them. The two man would then start to move out of the crowd and he would wait until they were quite a few feet away from him before also beginning to move in a attempt to trail them to see if they knew a little bit more of the island's current affairs, with careful and quiet steps he would follow just eight feet behind just enough to hear their voice's but not enough to arouse suspicion which was also due to the fact even thought he was a marine he wore no attire due to his rank. It had been nearly eleven minutes since he followed the two man and they had talked about things that were utterly useless to him in regards to finding out about the affairs of the island, the feeling in his stomach from earlier was now even more unsettling due to his increasing feeling of irritation at the lack of information he had gathered. Luckily the two man would turn their direction and entered a dingy old building, when he was close enough to read it's sign it seemed to be a ramen shop and Ignatius would think to himself "Perfect!" as now he could eat and fill his stomach while the possibility of gathering information was still open to him. As he walked in he would hear the same man say this, "Ja! It's true! That big shot pirate is here to dig up his treasure, it's the perfect time to with how the island is in chaos" Ignatius face had a deep scowl on it as he entered the establishment upon hearing those words but in actuality he was happy as he had finally gained a piece of news beneficial to his job. He walked modestly towards the counter ordering his food while taking a seat,"One order of tonkotsu ramen please." he would say plainly as he gently folded his hands while closing his eye's to focus on the voice's of the two men just encase they knew even more information. Oh this was juicey info. Sabu tilted his head a tad as he heard the sounds of the nazis as the boasted, perhaps somewhat drunkenly, about the big-shot visitors that were coming through to collect their treasure. "I don't trust them, those pirates are all nothing but trouble!" one of the more meek voices of the chattering group said, to which he was shouted down with calls of, "Better pirates than the socialists or the damned monarchists!" to which Sabu could only roll his eyes. Rule number 48 in life, if you play stupid games, you were bound to win stupid prizes. That being said, playing stupid games was somewhat of his niche market. The bounty hunter tried to meekly grab at his ramen again with his chopsticks, managing to scoop a couple of noodles into his mouth as the broth dribbled a bit on his chin. He looked like an idiot. It was then that Sabu noticed a new figure moving to sit down next to him. The bounty hunter slupred his ramen noodles loudly as he saw the stranger sit down at the only other open seat at the bar. The guy looked out of place, probably was from out of town, like himself. He didn't have anything on him that made him look like he was affiliated with one of the parties on the island, meaning that he had left his safe patch of green and come to this shit-hole for his own reasons. "Where you from, pal? You just blow in from stupid-town like me?" he asked as the shop owner placed a hot and tasty platter of Tonkatsu chicken down in front of the stranger. Sabu grabbed a cigarette, lighting it with one of the burning incense sticks and sitting back a tad as his other ear listened to some of the juicey gossip going on behind them both. "-Bah, I say let them dig up their treasure. The old man just wants to retire after all on his 'pension'. Let him get it and leave us to ourselves!" one of the nazis said as the waitress placed a number of platters of food down on the table in front of them. Sabu pushed his half-empty bowl of ramen away from him, sipping on some cold green tea to help the noodles settle in his stomach. A retired pirate, a treasure to be made off with, and a possible bounty to keep him from starving? Now that was a political party he could ascribe to. Still, this guy next to him, the way he was just sitting there with his eyes closed, was he thinking something similar? "Hey pal, what's your name?" he asked quietly, giving another puff of his cigarette as his head tilted down to look at the counter of the barside. His ear was perked up to listen should the stranger feel cooperative. "You wanna make some easy money and rep?" he asked prodding the fire a bit as he tried to feel out what kind of space the other man's mind was in. "Are you picking up what I'm putting down?" he asked, putting his cigarette out as he added on, "Are you smelling what I'm cooking?" and sitting up straight to the sound of a satisfying crack in his back. Sabu sipped on some more of his cold green tea, "Normal people don't come of their own free will to a hole like this- so something tells me you and I ain't 'normal' people" he commented, his other ear listening to the nazis gossiping as they ate their bowls of ramen. |

As he sat there waiting for his order of Tonkatsu ramen to be made, it seemed now that the man were in a bar and drinking merrily their previously sealed lips that hadn't said a word were now practically spilling what was on their mind about the pirate's who were coming to Gunsmoke Island to claim their treasure. "I don't trust them, those pirates are all nothing but trouble!" a softer voice could be heard among the mixture of conversations within the bar which was responded too by another voice, "Better pirates than the socialists or the damned monarchists!" Ignatius decided right then and there that this island has too many problems and that once he leaves he will be glad if he never has to see it's shore's again. From the kitchen in front of him Ignatius could now catch the scent of fresh Tonkatsu ramen being made, the smell of it however would only serve to tease his appetite further causing the light scowl on his face to somewhat intensify as he was trying to stay even more focused while his stomach was fighting against him to be fed. It would be at that moment a voice next to him could be heard causing the eye to the voice's side to pop open at their sound, "Where you from, pal? You just blow in from stupid-town like me?" He knew the stranger was only trying to make light conversation but the start of it would somewhat throw him off causing a bit of awkward silence before he answered. "Im from West Blue the same place your in now, Kano Country to be specific." It had seemed like the momentary of conversation he shared with the stranger was just enough for his food to be properly made and then set in front of him, he would then reach over to his left side grabbing chopsticks before rearranging them in his hand for easier noodle grabbing as he dipped it into the bowl and tugged it lightly back out with a decent amount of noodle's in it's grip before leaning in and parting his lips slightly to allow the ramen access to his mouth for him to eat. Ignatius had not bother to give the man a full glance however he was appreciative of his friendliness as it gave a nice touch to his normal look that allowed him to gain the information he needed. On a moment of silence between Ignatius and the stranger he would hear the group of men talking and would close his eyes to focus harder once more now that he had a bite to eat, "-Bah, I say let them dig up their treasure. The old man just wants to retire after all on his 'pension'. Let him get it and leave us to ourselves!" This was very good news, not only was he now hot on a trial of a pirate out to get his treasure and leave but now it seemed it was a retired pirate. Surely the money and commendations he could receive from catching them and sending them to the world government would be handsome. The stranger next to him seemed to not be finish with him yet as he asked what his name was, "Ignatius Scur is the name, and what about yourself?" He would ask as the man continued smoking a cigarette which giving another puff of his cigarette as his head tilted down to look at the counter of the barside before asking another question."You wanna make some easy money and rep?" and the man would make several similar comments in a attempt to explain what he meant in funny several different ways before finally saying, "Normal people don't come of their own free will to a hole like this- so something tells me you and I ain't 'normal' people." Certainly Ignatius wasn't a normal human anymore and judging by the man's sense of it neither was he or rather he had plainly just said it to him, he was caught off guard by the mans offer to make money but while rationalizing it in his head he saw no reason to refuse the offer of help. "You must be either stupidly kind or stupidly ignorant to offer a complete stranger you never meant before the opprunity to make money" Ignatius would take another pile of ramen making sure to leave the actual meat within the bowl, "But such a man would be a loyal one indeed, so i accept your offer." Sabu chuckled at the stranger's skepticism. He couldn't blame him, if he were in such a position he would have probably felt a similar feeling of instant distrust. The bounty hunter sipped on his cold green tea. He hadn't been to Kano country before, in fact, he hadn't really traveled all that much around the West Blue now that he thought about it. Ignatius Scur, now that was quite the name, "I take it you're not one to let people call you Ig or Iggy?" he asked, pouring himself another glass of cold drink to help sate his thirst. The hunter with golden eyes kept his gaze steady on Ignatius as he pivoted on his stool slightly to face him a bit. "I'm Sabu, from Greensland in the South Blue" he said, introducing himself as he looked over his shoulder to the nazis as they continued to chatter amongst themselves. They didn't appear phased by the fact that their party was being ousted from power by the socialists, it was just another day on Gunsmoke. Ignatius seemed distrustful of every last stinkin' one of them though, including Sabu, as he put it so eloquently in his response to the bounty hunter's offer. "Is it too much to be both? Kindness and idiocy are two sides of a coin after all" he asked with a shrug, his elbows up on the barcounter as he leaned forwards. "Rule number 5: money talks" he said, his gaze on the other man a bit more steady. Thankfully, it seemed the other man was interested. That was good, if they did this, they would need two people at least. "What're you then? A whiteback marine? Or a sleazy bounty hunter like myself?" he asked, looking the newfound acquaintence over briefly. He'd let his occupation slip on purpose, largely to feel out the other man's thinkings. He didn't get pirate vibes from him, he seemed a little to slick to be as unpolished as that. Then again, he had been wrong before. Still, he'd rather take his chances with a 33% chance of being right than facing off against these nazis or pirates where he'd have a 100% chance of getting cut apart. The man nodded sideways a bit, motioning to the nazis sitting behind them. "A big ol' bounty, a share of treasure, and a damn good reason to get off this island- that's a three for one combo" he said, making his goal for them both fairly clear. "A couple of young bucks against a pensioner and his crew? That's easy money my friend" the man said with a chuckle as he leaned on the barcounter. "You gotta be hungry for that reputation, we both know nothing in life is gonna be handed to you. We're just the bottom of the shit barrel that the world forgets about" he concluded, ordering another serving of dumplings from the owner. Fighting would come later, now they would talk. He wanted to know more about his temporary accomplice. |

Ignatius would now turn his head towards the man fully as he chuckled as if Ignatius told a joke, his usual scowl would appear even though he wasn't mad at all but simply confused on the matter which would cause a nervous chuckle to escape his breath. "Sense your willing to trust me so despite are rare knowledge of each other, i'll let you call me Iggy for now." He would look towards the counter and raised his hand and started talking with a louder voice, "Hey waiter, your best drink for my friend and I, celebration to new acquaintance's is in order." In truth he was only half serious in this new found attitude, he just couldn't quite completely trust him yet but at least it was better thing to do then two guys just talking without drinking some liquor while sitting at the bar top, it would seem the bartenders eye's would roll from afar as he was once again barked at by another customer to fill their request. It was then the man would introduce himself as Sabu and saying he hailed from Greensland island in South Blue and then addressed his statement from earlier saying, "Is it too much to be both? Kindness and idiocy are two sides of a coin after all" Ignatius was actually started to get interested this man had a way of seeing the world that made it seem brighter, unlike himself who thought the world to be gray with the possibility to be black and white which made him chuckle before using his chopsticks to pick up more noodles to eat but said back to Sabu."What a interesting way to look at things you have Sabu." While chewing his food Sabu would talk about how money talks was rule five, he wondered if it was a personal rule or a set of life rule guidelines someone had taught him at one point before he switched to a more serious question. "What're you then? A whiteback marine? Or a sleazy bounty hunter like myself?" It had seem that Sabu really was a ignorant man who blamed on about his business but he could not muster up enough reason to hate him for it so he begun to feel a little more trusting of Sabu the bounty hunter and leaned in real close to whisper to him, "I guess from one side i am a whiteback marine, although if you ask me if a pirate shows enough conviction and is no danger to others i tend to let them go. I know that is a decision opposed to my field of work but how can you send a innocent man who just yearns for freedom to the gallows? I became a marine so i could sleep peacefully at night knowing im keeping people safe not having the people fear the very mention of my presence due to the World Government actions." It seemed Ignatius also had let his guard down as he had not expected to reveal so much of himself in one sitting, i guess this man's nonchalant attitude had that effect on him. Deciding he had done enough talking to now he let Sabu have his turn as he would begin to talk about what was at stake with their mission of sorts, and just how low on the totem pole they were when it came to matters such as this. True enough Ignatius was only a petty officer in the marines which was higher then the average marine, but still probably one of the lowest positions one could reach with hard work which caused the natural scowl on his face to deepen due to his thoughts on the matter. He would then eat the rest of his ramen in haste making sure to drink the ramen juice before grabbing his cup and taking a big gulp of his liquor that happened to be porter ale before slamming his fist down on the table like a drunken men despite him still being very much sober, "Yeah we are indeed in the bottom of shit pole" Ignatius would look down quickly as he had forgotten about his own abilities and how the alcoholic ale he was drinking caused his metabolism rate to increase significantly to the point where his fist was more similar to a hot stove top causing the part of the counter where his fist was slammed to start to slowly singe as a light trail of steam rose from it's location, he would quickly shift his body in a way that made the rest of his drink spill over it to stop the steam from becoming noticeable to anyone else but Sabu. |

Sabu grinned at a free drink. He liked free things. He was a pretty stingy bastard. The bounty hunter rubbed his hands together in approval as he watched the old man place a single bottle of sake down in front of him. "You sure know how to show a girl a good time, fella" the man teased as he popped open the top of the bottle and tipped his head back. It was bitter, but with a strange taste to it that made it easy enough to get down his gullet. Iggy, as he was fine with being called now, went on about trust and commenting on the bounty hunter's strange demeanour. He gave a small shrug, "Back home on Greensland, there was a kid I knew growing up who was a bit slow in the head. He was bullied, got pelted with rocks by some of the kids, and never really seemed ambitious enough to leave home. Yet, the poor son of a bitch always had a grade A smile plastered on his goofy mug. I guess seeing him as a kid made me wonder why he smiled through it all. Now that I'm older, I can see he was just making his own happiness- in that way, he was wiser than any of us back then" Sabu thought as the memory of sunny summer days in grassy fields came over him similar to the warmth of the alcohol now in his body. It was the other man's time to ramble for a bit though, with surprising words that managed to catch the bounty hunter off guard. "That's treasonous talk you know, you better not leave a trail behind you" he advised, a bit conflicted himself as he heard the man talk about his convictions. "I guess I'm the same, dunno, maybe I'm just a sap deep down" he joked. The taste of the sake on his lips gave him an enjoyable numbess to his body, "So, are you a killer? Or are you not?" he asked the other man, holding up his index finger between them both. "Rule number one, mi amigo, is it's either you or them" he commented. At seeing the man take a hard swig of his ale and slam it down on the table, Sabu gave an approving nod. Though, he could see out of the corner of his eye, that the gaggle of Nazis had stopped their boasting, their gaze now firm and focused on the marine. Uh oh, maybe loudly using the words shit barrel was a poor life choice. The man managed to see what almost looked like steam rising from the man's arm, something in itself that seemed all the more strange to him. Before he could open his mouth to ask though, he noticed that the four nazis from the table were getting up from their seats and moving towards them. "Oi! Boy! What was that about this island being bottom of a shit barrel?" one of them called, each scowling as the tension in the ramen shop suddenly increased greatly. |

Sabu would begin to explain to Ignatius a story about a boy he knew back on Greensland Island who was a bit slow in the head, the boy was bullied because of it which later turned to more violent acts of harassment, and soon enough he no longer has the will to step outside his home but he would say how he always wore a big smile on his face. Reflecting on it Sabu would now say perhaps the boy was making his own happiness which made him wiser then anyone was at the time. Explaining to his new partner about his code would seem to earn some worry from his partner as he mentioned what he was saying was treasonous talk and if he ever decide's to go through it it would be best to not leave a trail behind him,He also trusted onto Sabu his convictions and a bit of his morals Sabu would say that he was more or less the same or question rather or not if he was just a big ol softy before taking a swig of his drink, and asking rather or not Ignatius was a killer or not as he explained that rule number one was either them or him. "Of course if it come's down to which life i should save it's always going to be me first." After taking a drink he would notice Sabu was looking away behind him and as he turned around he would hear yelling directed towards him,"Oi! Boy! What was that about this island being bottom of a shit barrel?" Not good, it seems in his talking he may have slipped out some bad words resulting in this situation and to make it worst he was in a bar where everyone was mostly drunk meaning there was no way common sense and reasoning was gonna work to defuse the situation. With a heavy sigh Ignatius would reach over the bar and grab a bottle of liquor before taking the cap off and swallowing down four heavy gulps of liquid before putting it back on the table as a light trail of steam begun to rise off of his body, he would look over to Sabu and whisper "Follow my lead" Before suddenly doing a sharp turn around and throwing the liquor bottle directly over the person's head who spoke to him, "WHAT DID YOU SAY WANT A PIECE OF ME?!! BRING IT ME AND MY BUDDY WILL TAKE YOU ALL ON!!!" After he was done speaking, he would hiccup loudly although it was fake, to anyone watching outside it would look like your average run of the mill drunks letting the liquor and tempers flare as the rest of the group begun to close in on him and Sabu which would be exactly what he would want people to see as to keep the details of what they were planning a secret while blending in.. |

Sabu gave an approving nod, taking another swig of his sake. "'atta boy, we'll make a hunter of men outta' you yet" the sam-moo-rai said as he noted the man's demanour. He was certainly a strange marine, only time would tell if that was for the better or the worse. Either way, he could sense a hunger in the other man that he shared with himself. Ambition wasn't necessarily a bad thing, to be hungry to grow in strength and scope is something to be admired truthfully. Sabu had met plenty of marines who had consigned themselves to living out their careers as lowly sailors or mooks instead of grabbing the brass ring and pulling themselves out of obscurity. Maybe Ig could do what so many couldn't, who knew. He was an interesting guy. The tension in the room was gripping at him though. The bar owner seemed as still as a statue despite the nazis now ganging up on the two younger men. Sabu glanced around the ramen shop. It had gone quiet, with a few quickly moving to leave some cash at the counter and leave so as to not get caught in anything messy that would soon come. It was a bit cramped, not too ideal for Ittoryu, but it would have to do. One of the nazis slowly reached behind his back, presumably reaching for a weapon to threaten them with. Sabu kept his gaze cool but calm, looking up at the leader of the nazis as he slowly and silently moved his hand down to his hip to ready his katana. Thankfully, the buidling tension suddenly disspiated as Ig suddenly tipped his head back to chug down 4 heaping gulps of booze that took all those present by surprise. Sabu could only catch the few sparse words the marine had given him before the other man threw his bottle clear over the leading nazi. For a moment there was a confused silence, the sudden outburst taking them all off guard. Once he had realized the marine's plan, Sabu cut in. "Oh, yeah, my pal has been hitting the sake one too many times. Sorry if he offended you" the bounty hunter apologized, grabbing his new partner by the shoulders to try and steady him as he sat there at the bar counter. The marine's quick thinking and semi-convincing acting worked. The nazis relaxed their tensed shoulders and began staggering back a bit, "Ja, well teach him some manners when he's sober.... useless toursits" he said, tossing some cash to the shop owner before leading his gaggle of followers out of the ramen shop and back into the night. Sabu gave a sigh of relief, avoiding a fight always made it so you came out on top by not having to fight in the first place. "I think that's our cue to leave as well" he said softly to Ig, swiveling on his barstool to give the owner cash to pay for the ramen and dumplings. "I reckon if we head due north it'll take us an hour to get to the northern caves by foot. I hope your night vision is good, bringing torches would give us away when we try and sneak upon on these pensioners" Sabu said, standing up and adjusting his belt and katana as he looked to the other man. It was time to come up with a game plan. Edited by MachoMan, Apr 6 2018, 04:47 AM.
