Green… That was the only thing Rust could see as his eyes opened up. As his vision became clearer, he recognized it as leaves. Soon, his back started to ache, and he realized - he was tangled up in vines. His memory, unlike his five senses, were failing him again… “Effin’ hell!” he exclaimed, angered by the fact this was happening again. On his last “adventure,” if you could call it that, he suddenly woke up, finding himself on a new island. Before that, he only recalled bits and pieces of what had happened before. That was happening again here. But where the hell was he now? It was like a giant rainforest… Something kept sounding off in the distance, kind of like a large drum. Was it the natives? Having had enough of being tangled in vine, Rust hooked on his scissor blade and made a 360 degree spin around him, cutting the vines. Whilst falling downwards, feet first, he snapped the blade back into its sheath and stuck his wooden claw back on. With a small thump, he landed on the ground, bending his knees to take some of the shock. The drum sound was getting louder thou- “The hell?! An effin’ giant lizard!” Rust was not quite sure why he needed to say that out loud, but the strange creature definitely caught him off guard. It seemed rather peaceful, though, simply gnawing on leaves. Best to leave sleeping dogs lie. Walking a few minutes away, Rust heard a lot of noise, and what sounded like talking. Hoping someone might have information on getting off the damn island, Rust approached it. Disappointment hit him hard when he realized it was a bunch of damn kids. One of them appearing to be sleeping in the mud, one pulling a dead dinosaur behind him. The things must have been easier than he thought to kill. Coming out from the brush, Rust snarled at the stupid preteens, “The hell are your parents? And where’s the nearest town? I need to get off this damn island.” Edited by Dasher, May 16 2018, 10:48 AM.

There was an immense and awkward silence. Not once but twice today Hainex had his territory invaded. Not by the creatures of the island in their eternal quest to devour him, but by humans. The worst kind of dumb panicky animal. Hainex stared blankly at the intruder. An older man now, dressed vaguely similarly to the bait Hainex was using to catch his meals for the next month. Though his dress employed a lot more red rather than full black the excessive layers of clothing still probably made him uncomfortable in the island's humid and hot environment. Hainex himself was still dripping with water and The Edge apparently managed to wash up out of the lake and still alive at that. Hainex turned back to the aquatic dino he had lured in and wrestled out of the lagoon and making use of The Edge's sword momentarily, he made sure it was dead then set about collecting his equipment. Hainex returned his sword to where he kept it, cleaned and sheathed The Edge's blade, and then proceeded to walk over to the Edge himself and collect him all the while ignoring the new intruder. Hainex tossed the edge onto his back next to the caught dinosaur and settled down to begin cleaning it. This was more important than dealing with the additional human. "You did do this." Hainex said with a mocking laugh. "You were excellent bait. If you'll leave as soon as you can walk again I'll let you live. That guy over there looks like an old you by the way. Maybe you'll survive the day if you pair up with him." Hainex was thoroughly enjoying taunting The Edge. It was almost nice to have someone to talk to again. "That is if the plants don't kill you first. Oh, and that small lizard sniffing at your foot has a nasty venom. Don't let it bite you." Hainex was making a remarkable mess out of the dino he caught while adopting some of The Edge's remarkable ability to ramble. For all his apparent apptitude it was blatantly clear that preparing food was not among his skills as he carved the creature into messy irregular chunks and wrapped them in various palm leaves. |

Movement. Finally. It had been far too long since he had been able to walk, his muscles had likely atrophied in the meantime. Once again, fate had dealt him a hand that was stacked to remove his soul from this earth. Of course he wouldn't quit, however. If The Edge was good at one thing it was not quitting, unless you counted schoolwork. Stretching out, finally able to look in any direction that wasn't straight forward, the boy in all black sweated uncomfortably in his attire. He was too stubborn to abandon his look for trivial matters such as 'comfort' or 'avoiding heatstroke' so the scarf wasn't coming off anytime soon. As Hainex went to town desecrating the corpse of a majestic reptile the Black Swordsman (trademark also pending) turned his attention to the new figure who had made his presence known to the equal-footed duo of children. The older man was rather crass in the way he expressed himself, using the rude words that all adults did when they were cranky or on the 'adult juice'. The Edge didn't like grown-ups as it was so unsurprisingly he wasn't taking to the new visitor in Hainex and his shared living space. "Hmm, I would rather cast my soul into the sea than rely on the help of an adult. I will find my own path in this unforgiving world. Anyway, gramps! If you go in that direction and swim for a little bit you can probably reach a town." The Edge pointed in an arbitrary direction, he was too busy trying to poke away the poisonous lizard with his cursed blade. Apparently it was poisonous or something, not that the fully clothed man was scared or anything. Popping up and chasing the reptile away, our lovable protagonist scratched his back that he had been so cruelly barred from over the last arbitrary period of time. More or less hoping that the adult would go away so that he wouldn't tell him how to do maths or do chores or any more of the things The Edge despised, the swordsman walked up to the carcass. "Hey, give me a bit of that. I'm starving. Man, I bet that bone structure could be pretty decent for the hull of a ship or something. At least a temporary one. The spirit of the fallen beast would also surely help guide it's crew to victory. If only there was some black paint around, I would be able to build a ship that could ferry souls across the River Styx. Right now I could only make one of those boring vessels that are 'suitable for commercial user' or 'marketable'." |

Veins popped on Rust’s forehead as one pipsqueak straight up ignored him and the other sassed him. What the hell were parents teaching their kids these days?! They probably never worked up a sweat in their lives! Grumbling, Rust stomped over to the dumb one who had just gotten up from his nap on the floor. With his claw hand, he pinched The Edge’s shirt and pulled him close. “You know, where I come from, that kinda backtalk’d get you killed,” Rust menaced. “You’re damn lucky I’m a generous guy! I won’t cut off your tongue for that like some wastelanders would, so you better appreciate it!” Rust gave a usually intimidating snarl. He wanted answers, and he was gonna pump out some answers here. With his proper hand, he tapped on his sheathed scissor-blade, making sure it was noticed. If either of the teenagers looked at it, they could immediately tell it was an unconventional weapon from its lack of a hilt. Instead, it had some kind of bolts to lock it onto something. “You better not think I’m a joke here, kiddo! I’m a bounty hunter with some heads already under my name! Now you better tell me what the hell this island is and where’s the nearest hint of civilization!” With that, he only pulled The Edge closer and tried to raise him to his tippy-toes. He was already grumpy from waking up on this crappy hole and these rebellious teens tipped him over the edge. Shitty kids were extremely low on his list of disliked things. Two more veins popped on his forehead and his face was already red with anger. He continued to snarl like a beast. He had no intention of slaughtering kids, but he was definitely ready to scare them if they refused to comply with him. Edited by Dasher, May 21 2018, 04:26 PM.

Hainex brushed off The Edge's prodding. The meat was his and as far as Hainex was concerned The Edge himself was quickly putting himself on pace to become an accompanying juicebox. It was only through raw willpower that Hainex had taught himself to drone out the incessant buzzing of insects on this island and the rambling of The Edge while amusing for now was quickly starting to intrude with his apparent friendliness. He at least expected him to be mad or something. Maybe he wasn't that interesting. Maybe he was just dumb. "Wait. You know how to build ships? Like actual ships that don't sink?" Hainex's question was interrupted before it could be answered. The second interloper that invaded his personal space was now also picking on the The Edge. Hainex idly opened up The Edge's notebook which he had appropriated and made note of how he seemed to attract bullies and was easily abused. Perhaps some sort of social pariah similar to Hainex's own childhood, except....worse. However, the unknown older The Edge's rambling did include one interesting point of information. "You're a bounty hunter?" Hainex's tone changed. He affixed the older scruffier, less limbed version of The Edge with a rather unnerving stare and his head cocked to one side. "How many heads? Are you new? Or just unknown? I wouldn't mind comparing. I've taken down three or four big names myself. That's actually how I got stuck here. I was after a pirate known as Godric G. Fist, I lost obviously." Hainex stepped away from the butchered dino corpse and his piles of wrapped meat and approached the two. He clapped The Edge's notebook of weird phrases shut and tossed it over his shoulder to catch it with his tail as he squared up to Big Edge™. The older man wasn't taller than him by more than an inch or to but he was fairly well built compared to Hainex's rather skinny physique. Hainex fixed the man with a serious stare trying to gauge if he was an actual threat or not. He concluded disappointingly however that he probably wasn't much stronger than his smaller clone. "My name is Hainex. This island is nothing but ancient jungle and mountains. There are no camps of civilization except this one. Mine. I'm the only resident." |

Local Elderly Man Yells at and Assaults Children. The headline that would be plastered on newspapers the world over flashed into the mind of The Edge. The angry old man had grabbed the swordschild by the shirt. Those were expensive, well at least for someone who had recently filled a tax return form which implied his primary source of income was 'allowance'. The elderly fellow also had equipped an odd looking weapon, appearing to resemble scissors. Wait… why scissors? There was a host of issues in practicality that existed but The Edge was more concerned over his rights being violated. "You know, where I come from grabbing little boys gets you in big trouble. Luckily for you, my soul is a million years old! Sure that number compares nothing to your human husk, which appears to predate the creation of the universe. Nonetheless, you should be careful in the future. Wouldn't want any people getting the wrong idea." Despite the predicament he had found himself in, the mouth of the wielder of a the cursed blade continued to move in such a way that it produced a torrent of irrelevant garbage. Hainex had also begun talking, something about bounty hunters and collecting heads or whatever. The Edge had never really been exposed to the real world so all these terms and concepts were new to him. The thought of having more than one head was weird. Why was that necessary? Maybe it was one of those curse things. There was also a mention of someone called Godric G. Fist. The Edge mused over what must have been the dumbest name he'd ever heard. "I mean, I'm also a resident of this island now. My time here has moulded me. Please get out of our living space." It had truly been a hard four or so hours since he'd been thrust onto Hainex's playground. Still being gripped by the pensioner, the Dark Soul (an trademark that is pending) pulled out a cigarette and lighter. Surely smoking right now would add to the mysterious aura that he had curated over this meeting with the two individuals in front of him. "Like I said I cou- cough… I could make a shi- cough ship. Would take a bit of ti-" The Edge broke out into a full on coughing fit, his body was not fully accustomed to inhaling smoke for aesthetic purposes yet. However, he pushed onward. What a trooper. Luckily, the worst was behind him. "Making the ship would take some time and we'd have to collect resources. There appears to be enough wood and most of the other small stuff however there is a glaring lack of goat's blood and angel tears. Whilst the vessel will sail, it would be a mere shell of what I can truly create. If we use this skeleton as a basis we could be off this island by… let's see… a month!" The construction of a ship took time, especially when it was a solo endeavour. It was an unfortunate situation, the old man would likely pass away of natural causes between now and then. |

The Edge just seemed stupid, spouting some imaginary bullshit, which Rust had to stand through. That was when the other decided to pitch in to the conversation too. Somewhat loosening the grip on the teenager on front of him and slowly shifting his head towards the other, Rust was taken off guard to hear said kid was also a bounty hunter. He had also heard him mention chasing Godric G. Fist. Rust, despite not having a big head start on the job because of his past, still knew some of the big names, and that was one of them. This random teenager either had to be stronger than he looked or extremely stupid. Or just a big liar. Still mildly surprised at the teenager’s reveal, Rust squinted his eyes towards Hainex and replied with doubt clearly audible in his tone, “I’ve only been doing this for a living. I haven’t gone after any big heads yet, because I haven’t had a need to. Guess I'm a bit new too. Haven't had the opportunity to do this 'till now.” That part about not going after big heads was a bit of a lie. Rust had went after a couple of larger bounties before this, but he had no idea what happened during his chases. Like he blacked out in the middle. Maybe someone was playing with his head? They would definitely pay for it if they were, but bringing that up now would just make Rust look crazy, so he decided it was for the best to not. He also found it a bit silly that he had to watch his words around kids. After hearing The Edge sass him again, Rust gave another snarl. Hainex also decided to walk up and examine Rust, which he paid no mind to. Did they even have anything to gain from trying to fight him at this point? If they had no reason, why would he have a reason to worry? The Edge decided to take out a cigarette in the middle of the conversation. That was the last straw for Rust. While the teenager smoked, he would feel the man’s eyes piercing into him. Or lack thereof. His rage slowly building up as the teenager talked. As he stopped, Rust released his grip on the kid and pushed him away, but not before grabbing the cigarette. Dropping the filthy smoke-stick on the ground with a swift downwards motion of his hand and stomping on it with his boot, Rust hissed, “I hate the smell of cigarettes.” Edited by Dasher, May 30 2018, 07:14 AM.

The exchange among the three spanned several conversations at once. Despite their obvious personality conflicts it seemed they all at least has a common ability to converse with eachother effectively. Hainex went back to collecting his meat for the month leaving nothing for The edge. His help was forced and his reward was that Hainex left him alive. That was the way of this island. Survival was all that mattered. The older scruffier Edge's admission that he wasn't really anyone worth knowing about lowered his perceived worth to about equal with the Edge himself. Plus he was crippled. The edge might be useful for his knowledge, but Hainex didn't believe he could pull his own weight. They would never build a boat in time if he died by the weeks end. "A boats a nice idea but you two probably won't survive the night. Though I suppose we have everything we would need." The more he picked it apart, the more Hainex refined the idea. Assuming even if The Edge kicked it by next week, he could at least get out of him everything they would need and how to put it together. Big Edge didn't seem to have many redeeming characteristics but Hainex could tell by how he held himself he would at least be able to survive the smaller threats, assuming his crippled limb doesn't hold him back. "The cigarette smoke is probably a good thing. It hides your scent from the predators, they don't like smoke either." Hainex mused on the thought and laughed to himself. The two edges certainly fit the mould of predator and prey. If they didn't die, Hainex might be able to get off this rock. If they did die, he would have make sure he gained everything he needed from them first. Hainex hefted his fresh supplies and started walking. Whether they survived or not wasn't his problem. He had work to do. "I know the island well enough to guide us but your survival is your problem." |

At this point serious charges could be pressed on this Red Rust fella. It's a good thing that there was no way The Edge could afford a lawyer. He probably didn't even know what a lawyer was. "Hey man, what's the big deal? Do you know how expensive these cigarettes are? They've been blessed in order to help draw out my inner spirits." Real talk, finding pure black cigarettes was both costly and time consuming. His supply was dwindling and unless the revelation of the century occurred there was little chance that he could find any more on this desolate rock. Grumbling, The Edge decided that maybe it was not the wisest idea to pull out anymore of his long cylinders of misery and just carry on with his day. Instead he fumbled around his possessions and extracted his carpentry tools, all painted black to match the mood. If only he had some lofi hip hop beats that he could study/relax to in order to get him in a proper rhythm. "That being said, we need a lot of things. We'll have to settle for not having demon-hide for the sails, which is a disappointment but we can work around it with leaves, big lizard skin or something else boring. There's no lack of wood or anything so we should be solid on that front though collecting it and getting it into usable shape would be a pain. I'm not sure we can rely on the old dude either, since he's liable to have a heart attack and pass into the next life at any time. I wonder if human-skin would work if you tanned it enough…" The Edge was more or less musing to himself, loudly enough that there was no way Rust and Hainex weren't clued in on the ramblings of the black haired child. The real time consuming part would be to get the lumber needed to build a ship, even if it wasn't large they had to carve the wood into an approximate shape that ensured no water nor sea spirits could penetrate the hull. Slinking along, following Hainex add the boy could think about was ship designs. This was maybe one of the few times where he acted like a rational human being and not the irritating ball of disappointment he usually was. |

Rust snarled, “You aren’t even out of your teenage years, kid.” What a great situation. Stuck on an island with two kids, one of which he already was having bad blood with. Rust pinched the bridge of his nose, closed his eyes, and faced downwards in disappointment. Bad blood with a stupid kid. What was he coming to? A babysitter? Coming out of his daze of dissatisfaction, Rust realized the two kids were walking away. He tightened his fist and growled lowly, before he begrudgingly started treading forward along with the two. The smarter looking one did say he knew the island and had been living her a while now. Figuring a threat could come out from anywhere on the island, Rust hooked his claw onto his belt and unlatched his sheathed blade, resting it over his shoulder on its flat side. Even sheathed, he could probably smack one of those big creatures to death. How dangerous could they even be? Calling forward over to Hainex, Rust asked, “Are you two even useful for cutting trees? I doubt the dumb one has enough strength in his whole body to cut a twig, and you don’t look like you have an axe on you.” Figuring it was a good of time as any to show what he could do, Rust brung his blade in front of him and unsheathed it. As he walked past a tree, he made a swift slash, creating a large gash in the side of it. It was not exactly his best or strongest strike, but rather just to display his power. If they were going to build a ship out of here, they needed lumber to make it in the first place. “I can cut down trees, as long as that kid can put his money where his idiot mouth is,” Rust offered, bring his blade back and sheathing it once again and placing it back over his shoulder. Rust had the feeling that if he even looked at The Edge, much less talked to him, anger would start seeping out of his stump or something. “I better not be bringing back a whole forest, to find out his brain is really just a lump of rocks. I’ll slash both of you.” Edited by Dasher, Jun 12 2018, 12:10 PM.

Hainex noted that the intruders had begun following after him. This was...submission? He smirked to himself. It was the predictable reaction after all. They had to realize they wouldn't survive the island by themselves and he had all the food so they would follow like dogs. The edge was notably tame compared to the cripple. One followed at the heel while the other hung back and growled. Everything was playing out as it should however there was a measure of disappointment that followed. Predictability was boring. The larger wilder cripple-dog brought up the ability of both of them. "Let's see. As far as skills go this odd creature is already surprisingly useful. If nothing else he has the right equipment and it takes at least some knowledge to get those right." Hainex pushed a large fern aside while walking and left it to swing back into the path once he passed it. "As for myself, like I said, I'm a bounty hunter to. I can fight well enough to survive here. I know my way around and I know how to tell what's dangerous to you. I can probably put you back together too but I don't really have supplies for that so don't lose any limbs you're attached to. I've also got some decent skill with woodworking though a whole ship is beyond me." Hainex stopped in the middle of the jungle and tugged on a vine causing several ferns and large leaves blocking the way to abruptly fall down revealing a makeshift but well lived in camp. A small tent was fashioned out of a combination of bones and tree limbs and covered over by leaves and sheets of tanned hide. A ring of small rocks created a firepit with a sizeable pile of ashes in it. A large flat slab of rock was propped up on several pieces of wood making a short table covered by smaller rocks, crude wooden bowls, pieces of carved wood and dried and crushed plants. Hainex set his acquired rations beside the firepit and walked into his tent to rummage around. |

"Hmmm, it's as crude as your personality but I think this will be enough to serve as a basis after I clean it up a little." The Edge pulled out his saw and began shaving away any part of the log that would cause any troubles when they got to business later. It would be fantastic if the crippled old man would do I bit more cutting and form the logs into timber but that may be a bit too much to ask from a man who clearly had traded his intelligence to the devil in order to have that silly weapon. Shaving off the final loose branch and determining that is would be fine to revisit this project later, the boy stood back up to discover the little camp that Hainex had apparently been living in all this time. "Nice place you have here. I wouldn't let the senior citizen in it though, he might have a moment and destroy everything in a fit of rage. You know, I wonder if his carer is on this island as well looking for him. If so, that could be our ticket out." The all black menace to society gawked at the handiwork that Hainex had produced, the carved wood was certainly better than that of a regular child. Nonetheless, it did appear that the evil tail boy had been living here for as long as he claimed. Unfortunately, due to the task at hand they would all be living here that much longer. Poking at the chair before popping back up, the boy scratched his chin and yawned. He was getting tired. Today had been a reasonably long day, the whole paralysis and being used as bait thing hadn't necessarily made it easy for his body. "It's getting late. Is this one of those cursed islands in which spirits and undead beings rise at night? Even if not, surely there lurk monsters who slumber during the day and ravage their prey under a moonlit sky! Either way, with the monumental task in front of us we need to rest our souls. Cutting down trees is easy peasy, it's more so the sails and waterproofing part that is a pain. Anyway, I'll perform the ritual to fend away witches. No need to thank me." With that, The Edge began rummaging through his possessions once again pulling out seemingly random trinkets. Spreading them out in a circle and lighting a black candle, the self-proclaimed anti-witch expert sat on the ground cross legged and began making random noises with his mouth. Sure he was getting tired and the sun was growing ever closer to the horizon but it was always important that he performed this ritual. After all, he hadn't been attacked witches yet. |

Rust had done almost the equivalent of nothing that day, but for some reason, found himself exhausted. Maybe it had something to do with how he got here. Or maybe it was because of how awful his current situation was. Pulling back his head, and revealing his slicked back hair, he decided to take a seat at the messy table, putting his back and elbows on the edge. He looked onwards at The Edge, as he spouted more bullcrap and put some silly candles down. Why these two…? Was there nobody else on the island? Anybody else would suffice… Rust grumbled, “Witches don’t exist. Stop this crap… The closest thing to witches are people with devil fruits and stupid pointed hats.” With a disappointed stare at The Edge, he continued, “We’re wasting daylight hours here. We want to get off this island as fast as possible, don’t we?” Having rested a bit, Rust stood back up on his feet, walking into the jungle again, not far from the camp. They were going to need lumber to build a ship. He could hear noises everywhere. It was a new experience to him, being in such an exotic place. Rust usually operated on more populated areas, as he was often looking for jobs. Mildly interested, he began to follow the sounds. They got gradually louder, but there was nothing he could see. It was just more green. Probably no more than just bugs and small animals around anyway. Getting back to it, Rust unsheathed his blade and started hacking away at trees. The one-handed man made it as loud as possible, though gave little thought to it. It was not a conscious effort, but he was openly welcoming any beasts that might be around. It would serve him many meals for a while, anyway. His jerky supply was falling a bit low. Edited by Dasher, Jun 26 2018, 12:08 AM.
