Mine Spunky Misunderstood Genius Basic Character Information Name: Nox Logos. Epithet: “Hero of Two Worlds” Age: 25. Gender: Male. Race: Human. Affiliation: Marine. Rank (Commendations): Captain (75). Rumors: Profession: Engineer. People who invent, design, analyse, build, test, and upgrade weapons, machines, systems, structures, inventions, gadgets and materials to fulfill objectives and requirements while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, and cost. Engineers can use explosives. The AoE of their explosive and munitions techniques will have the effect costs of the tier below with short AoE being free. Engineers have access to certain additional traits. Fighter. Someone who fights using melee weapons. Position: Helmsman. Physical Appearance Height: 194 cm. Weight: 99.79 kg. Hair: Black stubble. Eyes: Extraordinary ordinary brown eyes. Clothing/Accessories: Trousers, loafers, baseball cap, and a long sleeve shirt... all white. Holding up his trousers, underneath his shirt, is the marine issued blue neckerchief, several sizes big, worn as a sash. Necklace is a chain through wedding rings. General Appearance: Busy, preoccupied, waiting. Walks leaning back some, with long strides, and forward pointing toes. Whites are unstained and free of affiliates. Whim dictates the direction cap faces, if worn at all. Several tattoos are on his lean athletic body. Above his lower right back hip is a capital letter d followed by a dot, both black, both etched in the style reminiscent of the “The End” font. Avoiding visible areas, specifically the neck and chest, are the next tattoos that cover the upper arm, shoulder and upper back of the right side: a number of blue morpho butterflies of various sizes flying up the arm and toward the shoulder blade. There also exist a hand print tattoo on said shoulder. The Character Personality: He's a well enough navigator to sail by himself on the terrible grand line seas, but his true skills on the ship lies in steering the ship. Direct him to the wheel of any ship and he will maneuver it to such a degree, at top speed, most could drink tea without spillage no matter the situation. At the heart of his skill is his affinity with ropes and his great strength that together allows him to control the sails themselves, alone if need be, and tack the ship as to avoid harm, escape, or catch any fleeing ship. He was a ship racer before his time in the Marines, much to his mom's dismay. "If you're going to do something, do that something big." One motto of his, and if someone shares their plan with him he'll take it and make it a much more impressive and exciting. Someone doesn’t have to be a mate, this extends to people featured in news articles and in stories he reads. If anyone has their plan laid out he'll take it and do it bigger. This has him seen as competitive, and a one-upper, but he doesn't consider anything else than how much fun he could have and how much of an exciting mental and physical challenge will it pose. For him, that is the only adventure worth adventuring—outside of personal dreams. And it’s unlikely for this to change, following this motto is what gives him the ability to make the impossible possible. As a high ranking Marine, he knows the burden of being under authority, of having people under him that'll come when he tells them to and go when he tells them to. And he doesn't like it. The things the person in his position has to decide, has to do, the responsibility for another's life. Who takes pride and joy in deciding which of his men gets to go home to their family and which dies so everyone else lives? Not him, no thank you. Let someone else do it. Nox will take the back seat, always, unless the one dishing out orders isn't competent. One thing that never changes is that he's the leader, the captain, the ultimate authority on what he does with his self, taking a back seat doesn't mean being a mindless follower. Every Marine has had to consider the loaded word Justice. Nox had to too, and this is his personal take on Justice: Any justice that must be conducted behind closed doors he feels isn't justice at all believing even Lady Justice judgements must be themselves judged. Justice isn't the only loaded word for him. Homage is another. It’s one of the biggest aspects of his identity. As a Navy man who has traveled the world, there are many places, things, ones, and even abstractions he admires or respects. Along with those feelings of admiration or respect is this urge to let others know of their existence. And he knows no other ways to do so outside of paying homage. There's something about the act of paying homage that brings to life what's receiving that respect. And there's something about talking about Homage that puts a smile on his face, talking about anything he really likes to do can do that. Paying homage is no easy feat. It requires an excellent memory to remember so much. It's okay though, maintenance is but some time spent recalling what he still wants to keep. Spectating is a hobby of his. If something is going down, and stands a chance of being worth his while, he’s probably already there as the loud mouth egging someone on. And he eggs on blindly, paying no mind to the whos involved. He's sorry and means no offense to any friend that suffers as a result of his egging the other person to do something to them. And sometimes, when something going down involves just one, he’s more the type to ask what’s going on, be a soundboard of sorts. He’s a spectator because he’s curious. He’s curious for everything related to whatever his goal for that moment is, and is always curious for what might help with his ultimate goal, which he doesn’t really share. It seems to go over people’s head in the same way everything Luffy doesn’t understand is a mystery, but they usually don’t have his excuse of living in a jungle for most—or any portion—of their lives. His favorite weathers are rain, fog, and snow, preferably not all at the same time. Wind ruins all weathers. Though that’s reason enough to hate the wind, he tolerates it. It's because he met a special someone on a windy day, someone he misses dearly to this very day. More than his family and home island. Although wind isn't on what he hates list there are a few notable others. He hates people who thinks there isn’t more to being human than making mistakes, to the same degree Luffy hates wimps and weaklings. He has no problem putting aside what would benefit him most and would choose the option that benefits all, even if it costs him more. He hates fellow Marines who can't do the same, but it's not a crime worth sending those Marines to Impel Down for he's found. He's quick to accept responsibility and learn from his mistakes so it triggers him to see other Marines give excuses after excuses to not only avoid the consequences of their actions and the burden of their actions, but also avoid accepting the responsibility of improving in those mistake prone areas. Sensitive about his tattoos, they hold deeply personal meanings. They are for him, not some art for another's viewing pleasure. He goes "Gah" a lot. Mortality doesn't concern him. Hometown: Dark-Bright Island, Grand Line. History: He didn’t ask for it, he wasn’t looking for it, and personally he never wanted to again, but it happened; Bethany Baccata, terminally diagnosed with cancer, became the woman he would do anything for. He was already in the marines when he had met her, he was already climbing the only narrow ladder to be climbed to reach a position where he’d have to answer to no one, and was already with a pile of similar dressed people accumulating underneath him. It was a time before he was known as “The Hero of Two Worlds”. It was a time while he was still at odds with his navy acquaintances. It was for her—understanding, loving and supportive her, H, E, R, her—that he made an effort to change things, to improve his work relations. There was no one else he could turn to, who had the means—the berries, the know how, the technology, the best doctors and scientists—to help her and, as he badly wanted, cure her. But every effort he made lacked the desired positive change. On this island there were sides and at the end of each day everyone had to pick one, and he could never choose theirs. Not when opposite to the Marines and their way of life was the Church and it’s followers, the Church and their way of life, the Church and the family that ran it: his. And he had so much to be afraid for. Most of all, afraid of what might happen to his side if he ever left the island. Tension was still high, people still argued in the streets, but no one resorted to physical violence anymore. Not since he joined the marines and climbed high and fast without a care for who ahead of him he’d knock off. He went to her, confided in her, apologized to her. He couldn’t do it, do what only option he felt left to him to save her: Leave the island, in search for a different entity that could and was more willing to help, at the risk of unleashing the hell that would no doubt overtake the island if he’s not there to hold it back. But Bethany—understanding, loving and supportive Bethany, B, E, T, H, A, N, Y, Bethany—forgave him. She went beyond forgiving him, she gave him a second gift: a second option. It was with her directions that he was able to bring an end to the quarreling and help everyone reach a consensus on the issues. Shortly after he gained that epithet and things on the island got better. He didn’t save her; she saved both him and herself. Thanks to her he now had the connections needed to get her the best help possible. It took long, for mutterings to turn into silence, and for silence to turn into hi's and hellos, and for “fine” to turn into “she gotten worse.” And with that bad news was the cost increases. He couldn’t afford it with his salary, and even with everyone on the island pitching in it wasn’t enough. So he switched to active duty. Ten months out of every year he would spend away, out at sea, somewhere, anywhere but at her side, but it would be okay, they said to each other, it would mean he’d have the salary that could cover the cost and any unforeseeable increases. And when those two months came he made the most of them, easily now that she was doing much better. She had gotten close to his mom while he was away, so when he came back he came back to family and specifically his mom speaking so much of her and all her doings around the Church, and for its followers. But it was what they said when they spoke of her that held on and didn’t let go of his attention. They liked her. They liked everything about her, but most of all they liked the way she looked at him—spoke of him, thought of him, loved him. They told him things like “She’s a keeper,” “Don’t let her go,” and how they were so happy he was able to open his heart and love again. And as she danced in the meadow in her white and yellow sunday dress, twirling around egging the kids around to come dance with her under the rain, sun, and rainbow, his mom said to him, “She’s a special one, go on, marry her. This one, she won’t hurt you.” After I’ve come back from my next tour, he told her. He repeated those words over and over again, the ring he would propose to her with was tightly pressed to his body due to the rain and wind out at sea. What, he said over the den den mushi, it was hard to hear over the storm waves and lightning’s bickering. And in a moment of silence the words, “Honey, I’m so sorry, Bethany” got through, and the line went dead, and the ship capsized, and the lightning illuminated the dark sea he the ship and all his mates sunk through. It was after coughing himself awake, alone, he had to come to terms with it all. Alone. The cancer… Bethany… And anger! He asked for none of this. He sought out none of this. He never wanted to again. But it happened, and he was hurt again. The island he washed up on was Hom Ridge Island, and what they had going on for them what they were all about he decided to stay for. Away from it all, that’s what he wanted, and if that meant he would miss the funeral and not be the one who sends her off and shoot the burning arrow so be it. What did it matter anyway. Hom Ridge Island is an island of homage minded individuals. Each filled with a love, admiration, or respect for something or someone. They were all pseudo historians, really amazing researchers actually, and the ones who were held at the highest esteem were those who practice or taught fighting styles that pays homage to their famous creators or users. At the top was the woman or man—who not only has familiarize themselves, practice, and has mastered all fighting styles of the old age but also could not be bested by anyone else—rightly called Homage King. There was always something happening around the island, always something more interested than the last. Peopled spared, they role-played out scenarios they believed took place between various famous individual of the old. Though when he first saw it he assumed one such scenario, white beard versus the marines, was just a reenactment of the current Bright Eyes versus the marines and they were just mistaken on the details of bright eyes appearance and what not. But they corrected him to believe otherwise. Nothing has changed, they said, this war too will end the same; and the person roleplaying as white beard played dead. When he was ready, he began learning. He started off with Santoryu, as he “The Hero of Two Worlds” was a swordsman, but after winning a bout and it’s prize he wasn’t so sure about sticking to just it. The prize was access to a shrine room located in the island’s library. Empty of any furniture or people, the furthest wall was made of the outer bark of a tree. Odder was the multi armed statue that looked to be not only coming out the wall but moving through it. The room held books and scrolls on devil fruits. Many books and scrolls for each devil fruit. Many how to guides for the devil fruit fighting styles of the old. He took a liken to a particular set of books and not much longer after he decided to learn as much fighting styles as he could. Paul’s Rope Action he favored most from that point on. Engineers of the island taught him how to have every clothing he puts on lined with rope, and have the rope snake out and tie itself into a knot just reminiscent of the fighting style Rope Action. And the more he read from the books and scrolls from the shrine the more he requested to learn from the engineers. When he finally got to spectate the Homage King fight he was blown away. The Homage King won 15 fights back to back that day. He egged every opponent to get back up so he could continue studying the Homage King. And after those fights, he asked questions to his his fellow spectators and they all had similar answers. They believed the Homage King won for no other reason than being more skilled at all those fighting styles than the opponent faced. He went to his hammock that night underneath those stars feeling empty. Between his studies and practice, he began reading the newspaper again. One that reported on islands within the region his home island existed. His feelings started returning, and he missed his family. They all probably thought he’s dead, so now even if he wanted to return how could he, alive all this time and never a word from him. He closed the newspaper after flipping to a page reporting the marines from his base still missing. He slipped in a request: an audience with the king. He finally had his own house on the island. Brought with his recent streak of winnings thanks to his hard work. A carpenter friend he made agreed to help renovate it. He didn’t need a house, and wanted an place he could build his inventions and gadgets and more in private. He set himself to revamp the fighting styles he learned. “Creativity,” he said to the Homage King when they finally officially met face to face, “That’s what sets you apart from everyone else. It isn’t you’re ‘more skilled,’ you’re more creative, original in your combinations and choices, and fluid.” And when the Homage King asked for his name he answered, “Nox Logos.” ... “I can’t wait any longer,” he said to his friend, “Tell your friends to bring the ark when the builders are done building it. You and I will go on ahead.” Abilities and Possessions "When I'm hit, my brain shook, and I'm blacking out, there's this voice inside I hear say, 'What do you want to do?' And I shout back my commands, 'Don't hit the floor,' 'Don't fall down,' 'Catch yourself,' 'Pull yourself back up,' and my body moves accordingly; but I don't feel like I'm in control of it anymore, and then my eyes drift then stop at the person who hit me, and I hear that voice say again, 'What do you want to do?,' and this time I answer back, 'Win.'" Combat: Doesn't put much weight on a person's bounty, rank, or appearances. Just because those things can make someone appear strong or weak, doesn't mean they are. He definitely thinks he's such a person. So he sizes people up real good and prioritizes the combatant no one else can take down, regardless of how unknown they are, how weak they are, or low their position in an crew is. And while he’s not above being helped, if he says he's doing it solo he'd be damn if someone tried to change that. A one on one fight is not to be interrupted or left unfinished. If he's not facing the combatant he's chosen to prioritizes he's not above running away. As long as it doesn't mean putting his crew in danger he'll avoid an unnecessary fight, especially since he's a conditional fighter. Conditional fighter as in, he fights best once a specific condition is met: he has to be hit. Being hit once will do, but not by just anybody, but by someone he already sees as both an enemy and a threat. Until then he's a sluggish in all he does, but alas, sometimes that's enough. With the condition met, he's more. He’s both calm and angry. His tolerance for pain increases. He stays out of his own way, no longer trying to do what his brain could do without his interference like calculations and analyzing. And it's for the best. All the work he's done outside combat has given him all he needs to do those things in a strictly instinctual basis, that includes being innovative and intelligent enough to bring out the full power of the fighting style Homage Fighting. What is Homage Fighting differs for each practitioner. For Nox it’s a fighting style that consist of moves from a series of fighters who he deeply admires or respects he wishes to pay homage to, and is doing so through imitation and allusions, through paying homage. This makes him feel like he’s several fighters in one. What he loves about it is that it makes him feel like he's right there fighting alongside the fighter he's paying homage to. It's reassuring. It has its downsides. The fighting style demands great creativity, fluidity, and flow. Everything Nox is not until he's been hit. Once that condition has been met all the positive of the style comes to play. He's not above pirating the equips of pirate so he can pull off some of his Homage Series techniques perfect for the situation at hand. And it goes without saying if an enemy does something worth respecting or admiring, or does a move he'll like to pay homage to, he'll pay homage by complimenting them or imitating them. There’s more to Nox than Homage Fighting. He's a heavy color of arms user, always has been, even before he switched fighting styles. This shouldn't be a surprise, it's the haki color of manifesting one's will. And no one actualize so much of theirs and others' goals, dreams, wants than he does. Plus it allows him to prolong his staying power; the longer the fight the bigger the deal it is. What’s fighting like for Nox? It's a feeling that starts in his chest that feels good. The feeling is better than love, it's a much needed break! It's one moment without worry and without feelings of not being enough. It's one moment without wondering whether he's liked or disliked. Or if he's wrong or right. Or if people think he's a badass, a loser, a monster, or a hero. It's one moment without a single negative thought crossing his mind. It's a moment that's incredible. Weaponry: The better part of his inventions, gadgets, explosives, and grenades are in the shape of, with the appearance of, and the flexibility of, untiered ropes. If "fighter" is just weapon specialist, please use the correct description of it or some variant of it based on the profession in the rules. Appearance could use some expanding on since i feel it isn't as descriptive as it needs to be. Your personality explains alot but what your character is like generally. Every character has key trait/s in their behavior, all you've really explained is likes and dislikes as well as situational opinions and actions. It's nice that you've crafted your history into some artform, but it's vague. Idek how your character meet his beloved, the character's youth, the state of the island or how he even got his nickname. Changing it would ruin it's vibe so i'd say write a summary expanding on this somewhere would be helpful. Untiered rope? I assume this is just ordinary rope until told otherwise. Description for your awakened haki refers to a different character. Techs look fine to me, but i'm sure i'll be proved otherwise. Edited by StarBarks, Mar 7 2018, 05:32 AM.
