Account Name: Zen

Basic Character Information
Name: Deathless
Nickname: N/A
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Race: Human (Cyborg)
Affiliation: Other (Gentlemen's Contact)
Prestige: 0 (Small-Timer)

Professions:
  • Inventor - Primary: An Inventor is a man or woman with knowledge in how various mechanical devices work. They have good insight in how blueprints work, and can upgrade weapons, build gadgets and battle engines if they have enough materials. Inventors gain the ability to create explosives that they may use in battle and the AoE of their explosive techniques will have the effect costs of the tier below with short AoE being free. Inventors have access to certain additional traits.

  • Carpenter - Secondary: A Carpenter is someone who makes a living crafting things such as ships, submarines, buildings and other physical structures with expertise and materials not privy to non-carpenters. Carpenters are the only ones capable of creating ships with techniques.

Physical Appearance
Height: 233cm
Height: 133kg
Hair: As the surface of Deathless's head has been completely replaced with cyborg parts, he has no hair.
Eyes: As the surface of Deathless's head has been completely replaced with cyborg parts, he has no organic eyes. Instead, the eye sockets of the skull forming the outer covering of his cyborg head are pitch black except for a single, shining blue light in each socket. This blue light is his optical sensor, and moves around like a pupil would.

Clothing/Accessories: Ever since leaving his tribal island home, Deathless has taken to wearing simple modern clothing. For bottoms he tends to wear jeans or cargo pants, and for tops he wears single-color, long-sleeve shirts custom-made to fit the large modifications he made to his right arm. The one piece of clothing that stands out is the brown, heavy cloak he always wears. The garment is large enough to hide him from neck to ankles, but he tends to throw it over his shoulder on one side. Deathless also wears black leather winklepicker-style shoes with three straps on each shoe.

General Appearance: Deathless is a tall male, standing easily two feet above the average human. His body is physically fit from a lifetime of scavenging in the massive scrapyard, and scarred from the scuffles that resulted. His head has been almost entirely replaced with a cybernetic replica, housed inside the skull of a wolf. His neck, a small part of his torso, and his right shoulder have also been cybernetically enhanced, replaced with plates shaped like the replaced parts of his body. His right arm has been replaced with a cybernetic as well, though the upper arm has a core of real bone, veins and nerves. The cybernetic arm is longer than a human arm would be, and the lower arm is also far more wide. Pretense of a human appearance ends at the hand, which is clearly cybernetic and easily twice as large as his left hand. The last segment of the fingers can be screwed out and replaced with such things as carpentry knives (serving as claws as well), screwdrivers, and other tools as long as they are available to Deathless.

The Character
Personality: First and foremost, Deathless is a ruthless scavenger. Interested in profit above all else, Deathless is willing to screw most people over to get his merchandise, or the material to make merchandise. Knowledge is power, and he's not above stealing the blueprints for weaponry off other inventors or carpenters. His extensive knowledge of materials means that he can make an educated guess of an object's component materials simply by holding it in his hands for a few moments. If he considers the item valuable enough, there's no saying he won't make off with it immediately.

On the flipside, Deathless is completely loyal and sticks to his words when making actual deals for purchase. There's no worse a reputation for a black market salesman to have than being untrustworthy, since that's a good way to destroy your customer count. If you have a deal with Deathless, he won't renege on it until someone else comes with a better offer. Deathless is also exceedingly loyal to the Gentlemen, and will absolutely refuse to do things he feels would put them at a disadvantage.

Deathless himself is snarky and flamboyant, talking to friends with words of amicable mockery and coarse jokes while addressing enemies with snide remarks and crude taunts. The cyborg has quite the potty mouth, and pays little attention to how he might offend others. When not on jobs, he's lazy, likes to drink, and spends his time tinkering with explosives, gadgets, and wild ideas for ships alike. Those who manage to stick around him long enough will get a good view of the real Deathless, a man who believes concepts like good and evil are decided by the victors; his job is to provide the means to this victory. What he does, he does for himself, and to a lesser degree for the Gentlemen. He doesn't care much for the greater scheme of things, rarely thinking much further than the next paycheck.

Hometown: The Yard, Calm Belt

History: Several miles into the Calm Belt from where it meets the New World lies a massive heap of scrap and driftwood poking out of the water. The garbage deposit, which is easily as big as another famous Calm Belt island, Amazon Lily, is the location where the flotsam from a massive current in the New World lands when the current comes to a sudden stop within the Calm Belt. Shipwrecks, weapons and corpses from centuries of active piracy in the New World are dumped on this island, which is inhabited only by the numerous descendants of those who miraculously survived the shipwreck that brought them to the island. Due to its resemblance to a monstrous scrapyard, it eventually gained the name 'the Yard'. The only reason it hasn't been destroyed by Sea Kings yet is because several Marine ships with seastone hulls and numerous other seastone items have washed up, chasing the creatures off.

For about half of its lifetime as an active civilization, The Yard has been connected to the outside world via a syndicate of black market traders. These traders visited via obscure ways to fend off Sea Kings even before Vegapunk invented seastone ships, albeit much less frequent before that time. By the time these traders first contacted the Yard, however, it had already grown into its own, unique culture. Due to the numerous washed-up bones from men, beasts and aquatic life alike, these are often used in the crafting of clothes. However, numerous cyborg remains have also washed up. Since its early days, the civilization of the Yard has combined these two factors, creating an almost ritualistic attachment to cyborg enhancements that incorporate the bones of the long-dead.

The location of the Yard is a secret jealously guarded by the black market syndicate, a group called the Gentlemen. The group's leadership consisting of three men from three black market trader families, each of which is swimming in old and new money alike. The name 'the Gentlemen' is both synonym for the syndicate, and for its trifold leadership. The syndicate trades in everything from slaves to weapons to Devil Fruit, and sells to Pirates and Marines alike - though with a few more middle men when it comes down to the World Government.

Due to the amount of material and technology that washes up on the Yard, many rare materials can be salvaged from the 'island'. This, along with fishing, is how the people of the Yard make their living. At the center of the island, a settlement has been built, which includes water purifiers. However, the further away one moves from the settlement, the more cutthroat the island becomes. The primitive cyborgs and hunters of the Yard are willing to fight and kill to protect their valuable salvage, and to make it as a hunter, one needs to know how to navigate the often-unstable surfaces of the garbage piles that make up the island surface.

Deathless was one such hunter, born with a different, now-lost name. Both his parents were capable scavengers part of a group called the 'Steelbred'. As the child of two scavengers, it was only natural their child joined them on their forays from his youth on. Even as a child, he could clamber into places the adults could not reach, making him a valuable asset. He was a quick grower, however, and by age 14 he stood as tall as most grown men. By age 20, he was a giant, if lanky man. By then, the youth was a full-fledged member of the Steelbred, and though his parents had already passed on in the vicious scrap-skirmishes, the rest of the Steelbred were one large family for him. They, like many other groups, were avid users of the Yard's traditional bone-cybernetics.

The Yard shaped the young scavenger like it shaped many others of the Steelbred. Life was a joke, and death was the punchline. If you died, you died. Mourn when appropriate, but don't let it distract you. The Yard is a place of blood-stained wood and crooked, razor-sharp metal. Relax when you're in your home, always stay alert when you're not. Survivalism and black humor went hand in hand. When at home, he drank and slept his free time away, the only ways he had to relaxThe young scavenger, like all the Steelbred, fought with the tools he used for salvage, as there was often no time to switch from one to the other.

When the young scavenger was 26, fate caught up with him. Agents of the Gentlemen had appeared, demanding an amount of a very specific material the Steelbred had found a large deposit of. The payment would come in advanced weaponry, a stockpile of food, and tools for metalwork and electrical engineering - enough to have the Steelbred set for the next year. The main obstacle was another scavenger group called the Black Brands, who had also found the stockpile in question, though it had already been claimed by the Steelbred.

The massive reward meant the Black Brands took a large risk and attacked the Steelbred who were harvesting the Yard's riches. The young scavenger, by then a regular, unaugmented human being, fell for a trap the Black Brands had set after luring a number of Steelbred away from the mining perimeter. The young scavenger and several other Steelbred were crushed under the wreck of a small ship, with the young scavenger surviving thanks to pure luck - only part of him had been stuck under the ship, though his right arm and shoulder, along with part of his skull, was pulverized. Through sheer willpower, the young scavenger clung to life. When the Steeelbred drove off the Black Brands and started searching for their own survivors, they found the young scavenger barely alive underneath the wreck.

He was immediately taken to one of the Steelbred 'bodycrafters', a mix between doctor and cybernetic expert. In true Yardist ritualistic fashion, the bodycrafter rebuilt the young scavenger's head and right arm. His head was rebuilt with the skull of a wolf as an outer shell, his eyes replaced with cybernetics. His skull could be salvaged from the nose down, though part of his jaw had to be replaced with metal. His right arm was almost completely replaced with a metal, larger-than-normal replica capable of extending via a chain. The last bone of his fingers could be replaced with tools like screwdrivers and carving knives.

Having survived where he shouldn't have, the young scavenger was given a new name, leaving his old one behind. From that day on, he was known as Deathless; according to Yardist legends, having a near-death experience would ward death off in the future, like how surviving a sickness made one resistant to said sickness. Deathless, still freshly augmented, offered the harvested material to the Gentlemen himself. At the same moment, he made a request that shocked everyone; he wanted away from the Yard. The Gentlemen, who knew the Yardists were a solitary type who all but never left their island, were hesitant to accept. The Steelbred tried to talk Deathless out of his plan, to no success.

Deathless realised his life would never go anywhere on the Yard. The Gentlemen had always hinted at such wonders in the world beyond, yet the Yardists simply remained on their little scrap heap, obediently gathering what was requested of them. Deathless, perhaps feeling a little too big for his britches at that moment, felt there was a more interesting fate ahead of him. He didn't expect to become a hero or a villain, didn't expect to change the world. There just had to be more for him than the same broken, dangerous wastes.

The Gentlemen, already having discussed with their superiors over Den Den Mushi, accepted Deathless's request. They would take him to the Blues, where their shipment of material was going, where they would dump him with a list of contacts and a good-luck message. Deathless said his farewells to the other Steelbred, knowing he would most likely never see them again. The skull-headed cyborg didn't care as much as he thought he would. Whether they died or left his life, it didn't matter in the end, right?

The Gentlemen fulfilled their promise. They took Deathless all the way to Swift Breeze, where the material would be used in the construction of a unique ship. The Gentlemen agents weren't interested in taking Deathless any further, leaving the cyborg on the massive carpenters' island. The place amazed him. Dry land, for one, was a surprise. A giant pile of dirt and rock served as the earth, rather than the battered corpses of innumerable ships. People worked together to create majestic vessels, rather than fighting among each other for scraps. For the first time in his life, Deathless was introduced to the concept of 'currency'. Sometimes the Yardists found chests full of useless metal coins, which the Gentlemen valued highly. Now Deathless understood; money can be exchanged for goods and services.

Rather than following his dreams and immediately heading into the world like he'd wanted, Deathless made the wise choice of spending the next three years on Swift Breeze, learning how to put the basic skills gained on the Yard to use. After a lot of searching, he was accepted as the apprentice to a local inventor by the name of Colchester. The elderly man usually spent his time creating engines and electronics for ships, which taught Deathless the basics of electrical engineering and carpentry. However, the inventor also had a great interest in cybernetics, and taught Deathless how to improve on his own cyborg parts, and how to create certain gadgets.

At the end of his three-year apprenticeship, Deathless quit. Despite having grown decently attached to Colchester, he knew it was time to move on. The old man seemed to understand the cyborg, which his own family had not. Now familiar with life on a normal island while still deeply set in his tribal history, Deathless bought himself a small ship, and once more called on the list of Gentlemen contacts. It was about time for him to start dabbling in the black market.

Abilities and Possessions
Combat: Deathless isn't a trained fighter, but nonetheless has a style to fend for himself. The inventor prefers vicious blows to the vitals over trying to tire an opponent out. He doesn't attack often, but when he does, the attack is meant to exploit an opening, or to seriously harm his opponent. Deathless uses his grappling-hook arm not only to grab enemies from afar, but also to pull himself from place to place.

Weaponry
WeaponDescription
Iron axeA simple one-handed iron axe used by carpenters. It can easily be used as a weapon, but the practical, single-bladed design shows that it's not built for combat. The handle is about 20 inches in length, and the axe weighs about a single kilogram.

Items
ItemDescription
Carpentry toolsA set of carpentry tools used by Deathless. Usually carried in a messenger bag he wears underneath his cloak. The set includes a number of miniature tools. Deathless can remove the fingertips of his cyborg hand and replace them with the miniature tools. The miniature tools include carving knives, screwdriver heads, and even drill bits.

Rather than following the typical advancement of Reputation available for Others, Deathless follows a system similar to Marine Commendations. Black Market Prestige, or Prestige for short, is gained by selling or providing rare or illegal items to black market contacts. These items can range from drugs, to slaves, to Devil Fruit. Black Market Prestige also comes with a number of ranks, as follows:

  • Emperor of the Underworld - Chronicler Discretion
  • Gentleman - Chronicler Discretion
  • Black Market Baron - 300
  • Underworld Tycoon - 200
  • Underworld Executive - 100
  • Gray Broker - 65
  • Rogue Trader - 35
  • Trusted Runner - 20
  • Trafficker - 15
  • Wide Boy - 10
  • Shady Dealer - 5
  • Small-Timer - 0

Any shoes in Clothing, if not that’s fine too.

Name should be known and documented. Unless Unknown was his real name, then it’s fine.

If we wants to use any of his items as claws in combat they should be in Weaponry.

Just quick fixes.

Added shoes.

Put Deathless under Name, since it might as well be his real name for all intents and purposes.

None of the claws are intended to be weapons until upgraded for that specific purpose.
