Character Template [-----] Account Name: PanHandlers Scoop Link: Basic Character Information Name: Olinda B. Abbles Nickname: None yet Age: 17 Gender: Female Race: Human Affiliation: Other Threat: 0 Achievements: - Became an Acolyte of the Church of Creation Profession: Primary: Cleric (née Entertainter) A cleric is similar to a priest/ess and acts as a preacher of the good word. They are tasked with spreading their chosen religion across the world. Their fervent, fanatical worshipping and well-written sermons even have the power to encourage and inspire the masses. Entertainers can use their performance skills, be they song, dance or anything else, to influence others and use them as various buffs. Secondary: Healer (née Doctor) A healer is a type of medical professional that mixes the tenets of bunkum faith healing with genuine medical knowledge. They are just as skilled as doctors, but significantly more annoying. Position: Support Physical Appearance Height: 5’7” Weight: 113lbs Hair: Her hair is a light mousy brown colour. It is thick and can be described as unruly, so Olinda hardly ever undoes the single long, flowing plat she normally has the majority tied up in. The only bits of hair allowed to hang free are her arched bangs – they expose her forehead slightly and stop just above her slim brown eyebrows. Eyes: Grey, often wide and inquisitive. Clothing/Accessories: Owing to her position in the church, Olinda’s outfits tend to be very modest in colour and complexitiy. She wears a long, white dress with a grey collar, sleeves and mild shoulder padding - this is buttoned at the neck. The dress is broken up in the middle by a wide black fabric belt with a silver buckle, this also serves to pull the flowy garment in close to Olinda’s body. It billows out somewhat again as it reaches her hips, leaving the hem to ruffle and move freely. The front of the dress ends around her mid-shin, while the back almost scrapes alone the floor. The raised front hem reveals her black knee-length wedged heel boots. Around her neck, Olinda wears a long chain necklace depicting the symbol of the Church of Creation, similar to all other acolytes. She also tends to carry a plain brown bag with her, slung over her shoulder. This contains a disorganized mess of medical supplies, religious texts, and her “weapon.” Outfit/Body Ref. General Appearance: Olinda has pale, soft skin. The only deviation of pigmentation comes in the form of tight clusters of pale brown freckles speckled below her eyes and over the bridge of her nose. Her cheeks and her button nose tend to redden easily when she’s exposed to cold situations. She has fairly thin, pink lips and a naturally upturned mouth, creating the illusion of a faint smile even when she’s trying to offer a completely neutral expression. She could quite easily be described as stereotypically “cute,” having wide eyes but otherwise quite small, fair feautres. Olinda’s conservative outfit obscures the fact that she’s deceptively well-toned, all thanks to her life of enforced worshipping. Her years of bowing, chanting and praying have left her with a tight and well-maintained figure and some significant core strength. She has a slender build, though she has comparatively wide hips. Her legs are an average length for her height and her feet and hands are average-sized, though they err on the side of ‘dainty,’ with her fingers being quite slender. The Character Personality: Sheltered is the one word that could be used to accurately describe Olinda, her family and everyone she knows. The people of Kiel live in a society that has been cut off from the rest of the world for longer than any current resident can remember, going back so far that some have come to revere “The Outside” as a mythical place full of great wonders and greater dangers – Olinda included. Because of the city being so isolated, Olinda has no understanding of current world events. Marines, Yonkou, Sea Knights, none of those words mean a thing to her. While she can’t always suppress her curiosity about the world outside of the White Pyramid, Olinda believes wholeheartedly that if she were meant to venture out there she would receive a heavenly sign or mission from the High Priest. When it comes to the hierarchy of the church, Olinda is extremely respectful, revering all those that outrank her regardless of her personal feelings towards them. She is fanatical about the various rules and rituals passed down by the High Priest from the Lord himself, having committed each and every one to memory. If she feels she isn’t completely au fait with any of the thousands of circumstantial and sometimes conflicting rules of the Church, she will often refer to her “good book,” which is a notebook she keeps constantly updated. Olinda is a paragon of the Church’s outwardly-facing ideals. She’s kind, considerate and willing to help in most situations. She also knows that every good thing that happens is proof of her God’s existence and every bad thing that happens is because of man’s folly, regardless of whatever more tangible causes may exist. She often speaks directly to the sky, offering up quick and sudden prayers for those she feels need protection or smiting. She is brazen about this – while she will speak with grace and respect, she will also say exactly what she’s thinking, even if it involves insulting someone nearby or revealing sensitive information. It’s unwise to trust her to knowingly mislead someone. She’s an energetic and committed worshiper, often trying to set up impromptu sermons for whoever she thinks will listen (although if she finds herself with a captive audience she’ll really go to town – five-hour preaching session are hardly unheard of.) With her religion being at the core of her character, her beliefs are so ingrained that no amount of angry jostling will shake them loose. Any crises of faith she encounters pass quickly and without leaving any lasting damage, normally taking the form of brief moments of questioning, followed by a quick reread of her “good book” and a reaffirmation that she’s definitely in the right. Because of the combination of her inbred desire to believe in a deity and her lacking understanding of the real world, Olinda could be described as someone who is “super gullible,” at least when it comes to situations that don’t challenge her faith. Hometown: The Lost City of Kiel Kieldonia East Blue An imagining of Kiel History: Olinda’s father is a priest of the Church of Creation, a middle-ranking member with access to the Church building itself outside of the first five floors, though even he was not privy to the workings of those at the top. Her mother was a member of the Church’s Holy Guard, though she retired from that relatively dangerous line of work when she fell pregnant, instead working as an instructor Kiel’s only school, indoctrinating the younger generations with as much zeal as she could muster. Because of her parents’ roles within the church, Olinda grew up surrounded by religious ideals from a young age. Being an only child there was absolutely no escape for her as she was instilled with all the virtues of the Church, treating it all as undeniable fact. She was swaddled in a blanket of faith and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to learning of the Church and following the word of the One True Tome. Despite the fact that the original holy book was locked away by the High Priest, many of the literature in Kiel claimed to intemperate it, much of it being given the greenlight by the High Priest himself. He’d also sometimes appear to deliver new revelations from on-high, events that were attended by every person in Kiel on pain of being considered a heretic. With the city locked inside the While Pyramid, there was no place for anyone openly denounced as a heretic to hide. Over the years Olinda heard of those that were excommunicated being sent into the White Pyramid, never to be seen again. She heard whispered stories of “The Outside” as she grew, normally from the other girls and boys in her classes. Nobody could decide whether or not it was a good or a bad place, and the texts offered to them didn’t do much to clarify the issue – some adults even argued that there was no such thing and their world consisted entirely of the city and the impassable White Pyramid. Olinda surmised that there had to be something beyond the White Pyramid. While she never became a fanatical supporter of the idea of “The Outside” her curiosity spiked whenever she heard about it. Working hard in class, she was still only considered “average,” with the art project her father helped her with actually offending some of the senior teaching staff. While there were no rules against trying to portray the never-described prophet “Deer Diarie,” the man whose name was said to sit at the top of many of the One True Tome’s pages, her depiction of him as a pinheaded man with bulging eyes and a candle stuck in the top of his head hardly garnered her any favour. It was only her father’s explanation of “creative liberties” that saved her from severe demerits. Hoping that it would help her to excel, her father called in a tutor from the Church to work with her to help her master the ancient art of “healing,” involving medical treatments ranging from prayer to invasive surgeries. Olinda took to this new skill like a dugong to water, revelling in the ability to preach the good word while digging around in someone’s guts. Never before had she had such a truly captive audience. Her dedication to the craft helped her win back the support of those who were judging her for entry into the Church. Olinda was inducted as a full Acolyte of the Church at the age of 16. She was granted the right to aid in her father’s sermons, something she’d been doing in a much smaller capacity since she was a toddler, and her parents were overjoyed. She even took to bringing along the much-maligned Bust of Deer Diarie to her father’s sermons, giving it pride of place as a candle holder and often espousing the power of the ‘holy waves’ it gave off when she joined her father in preaching. She would even bring it with her when assisting in the local “Healer’s Guild,” though it would unnerve some of the others and she’d often be asked to throw a tarp over it. A year on, Olinda’s curiosity about the outside world has started to grow. More and more frequently she finds herself daydreaming about the potential wonders to be found in “The Outside,” though she’d dare not admit it to anyone. With none of those who ventured into the White Pyramid returning, Olinda resolved that her daydreams would remain daydreams, short of any sudden intrusion into the Lost City… Abilities and Possessions Combat: Olinda has received no formal training in combat. If a situation involving conflict erupts she’s far more likely to try and pray her way out of it, although even she understands that there are some situations that divine intervention simply won’t be able to fix in time. Because of this, Olinda has resorted to using the heaviest, most durable possession she has to batter people – only in self-defence, of course. She uses the bust she and her father carved when she was a child to smack people. Her style lacks grace and speed and is mostly ineffective unless the person in question is unaware of her presence or can be fooled into taking the hit for some reason. If her attacks connect, however, they can be quite effective. Considering the weight of the bust she normally brings it down on top of opponents, allowing gravity to take some of the strain away from her. Outside of direct combat, Olinda considers herself a powerful supportive force. She believes so completely in the doctrines and lessons she preaches that they can even inspire those around her to surpass their own limits in combat. She makes good use of the Bust of Deer Diarie during these sermons, often clutching it or holding it aloft as if it were some sort of religious fetish. She can also place a simple wax candle in a hole on the bust’s head to make use of it as a candle-holder, which she believes adds a level of mysticism to her sermons. Sometimes these candles are scented, coupling aromatherapy with her preaching to better inspire her allies. Understanding that almost everyone else in the world is more combat-ready than she is, Olinda prefers to stick to the back ranks, often hiding behind the most durable-looking person nearby. Failing that she will often try and sequester herself behind a building, rock or tree.
