Things here had not exactly gone as Salasais had planned, though perhaps "plan" was a strong word, more like hoped. The lives of the marines were spared for now, and the dinosaurs hadn't come to harm either, but there were no negotiations to be had. Jane had said that they would be allowed a temporary truce if they left the island quickly, but refused to speak further. As she left though, the Shaman spoke: "Very well, we will not test your family's ability to devour us. Perhaps we can one day return with something of worth to return your favor. Salas is fond of this place and hates to have to leave." He was pleased to have avoided killing anyone or anything in this skirmish, but couldn't feel too proud of himself on account of having neither settled anything nor really being put under enough pressure to make him truly upset. As tests go this was almost trivial. The words of the young man who stood against the dinosaurs about what the marines were here for brought a thought to the Shaman's mind. Taking small samples of the jungle flora with him would be wise, even if it meant tempting the beasts of the Little Garden. He was confident he could avoid killing them as he had here. Morose seemed pleased with how Salas handled the situation, which felt good to the shaman, they could talk about what had happened when not surrounded by large beasts that were growing increasingly insistent on their departure. He motioned to the Freedom Pirates to follow, "Come then, we have stayed long enough and have what we need. Let us not wear out our welcome further." As the group walked, Salasais spoke quietly to the Chef "It must have seemed quite foolish to think We could make such proud forces humble enough to resolve their differences. Salas had hoped that, once they had all stopped fighting, perhaps things could come to words." He sighed "We can take what small comforts we can, though. Salas does not have any more blood on His hands than We started with and none of Our people were lost. We were able to acquire food for our journey and have some reprieve from the constant danger the Freedom Pirates face in this world." As he traveled, Salas used his ritual knife to cut and gather some of the foliage while whispering prayers to the spirits of the jungle. He wanted to learn any medicinal uses of these rare plants, but mostly and secretly he wanted to be able to bring some of this place with him onto the ship so he could feel slightly more at home. |

Kid’s defence against the dinosaur was in fact holding. He supposed this is why the marines had brought him along, but after he’d refused to fight against the natives he felt unsure what their opinion of him would be now. Well… He was fighting for them now, and boy was this dinosaur annoying, with its occasional attempts to bite at him, the constant warm breath against his false skin unnerving him slightly. This quickly came to an end when the beast actually budged, stepping back and almost making the teen stumble. Only now did the teen notice the odd woman riding a dinosaur, apparently the one in control of this stampede as well as the other natives to a degree. They seemed to be being shunned away though, as if they had betrayed her for not slaughtering the marines… Which he was thankful for because at least now they wouldn’t be on his conscience, for now at the very least. However he knew an order when he heard it, and although he was suddenly more confident in his abilities he didn’t want to get anyone else hurt, and so the marines and apparently pirates began slinking away from the dinosaurs. In this time he listened to the one known as Salasais speak. It wasn’t long before the… Native, not native? He wasn’t sure, but he soon began speaking too quiet for the teen to hear, the only give away of his speech or thoughts being the occasional collection of foliage from the forest floor. In fact… Now that his adrenaline was cooling down Kid was starting to feel more anxious, unsure around all the people here and even shaking a little bit. Plus he was scared of the bugs which he was sure littered the forest floor and many of the hollows of the trees. Perhaps it was time for him to leave though… After all the marines would have mixed opinions on him probably, unless they respected him for facing off against the dino which the “locals” had dealt with far better anyway… Damn, he’d just needed supplies. |

"Our break doesn't have to end so quickly. There's another option." Morose spoke calmly while being watchful of where he stepped. One of his hands seemed to be gingerly favoring his left side as well. "We likely took care of some of their best men. Some of them will probably be bed ridden for a while as they recover. This could mean their camp will be less guarded than normal and have fewer to hunt and gather food from the island..." Morose's words came in spurts as if he was still baking his idea as he was presenting it. ...with this many of our men injured and the risks that come with sailing in the grandline, I don't believe it would be smart of us to leave now. However, staying is currently a problem because of the marines and that jungle woman. My current thought is simple but what if we simply stole the marine camp's provisions? They would not likely have the means to sustain themselves and would need to leave. With them gone, dino lady won't have reason to come after us...probably. We would then have the marine supplies and potentially half the island to subsist on while our people recover. By the time the marines return, we'll likely be 100% or maybe even off to another island." Morose concluded his thought to Salas. His eyes caught sight of Kid and became cold and distant. "What do we do with him, though?" Morose was down 2 knives, but white sleeves slick with sweat revealed he had more. As the party trekked through the jungle, Jane's dino's kept a healthy distance but never withdrew from sight. The injured and carried had constant reminder of what may happen to them if they moved to slowly. Morose moved a bit slower and sweat dripped from a usually dry brow. He looked tired. His sleepy eyes still watching sharply for what was next. |

Morose's plan made sense to Salas, they couldn't leave yet without sufficient supplies or a well-rested crew, and if they didn't want to have to butt heads with the natives as the marines had been doing then the marines would be the only viable source of material goods. "A compelling possibility, having already weakened their number makes for an easier time removing them from their camp. We have more than enough remaining manpower to haul back what we need after the marines are subdued... and without the interference of Jane and her Family we can deal with them in our own way." The thought in Salas' mind went to the incident in the jungle, how the marines likely didn't see their being spared by the Freedom Pirates as much of a kindness after being initially ambushed by them. Still, that show of force would make for a good bargaining ploy when making the final push to drive the forces of the government from the island. All the better if that action restores the crew's good favor among Jane and the dinosaurs. Then came the matter of Kid. The young pirate was following them like a lost puppy and that made Morose uneasy. "He is a strange one, his shyness belies his strength. He could stand in Our spores without being immobilized and held off a charging beast with his body, but panicked at the thought of taking up arms when we attacked... and he may know how to reach the place we seek. Salasais will see if he can be swayed." With that, The Shaman approached Kid while being mindful to keep the people moving toward the shore. "You seem to be lost, did you not come to this place with another company? We admire your strength but find your apparent lack of conviction worrisome. What is it you think to gain here and how do you expect to get it? Answer truthfully and perhaps Salas will find a way for us all to acquire what we need." Salasais seemed to be inspecting something about the cyborg, looking at him as if he noticed something just behind Kid's eyes. It would be troublesome to remove the young pirate if there proved to be hostilities, but the shaman expected that really all it would take to bend Kid to their side was the right amount of pressure. Kid continued to walk almost aimlessly through the forest, his only sense of direction coming from the other groups of people pushing past bushes and moving through the foliage. He kept a safe distance from everyone, including the marines at this moment in time. They could come to him if they wanted, but he didn’t feel up to facing them right now. He’d just let them all get beaten up, just because he hadn’t signed up for fighting actual people… Heck usually he’d actually be ok with it if needs be, though… He was struggling to see who the good guys in all of this were. It appeared there were four parties in this issue: Him, the marines, the locals and then the dino locals. He was a little unsure what the deal with the two latter parties were. The teen continued to ponder, weighing up everything and attempting to remain neutral. Marines were often the bad guys in things, despite being the peacekeepers so to say. They’d had a noble cause but… They’d been willing to most likely kill both lots of locals without trying to talk to them. Meanwhile the dino locals had been planning on trampling both marines and the other locals, whilst the other locals… Ugh it was all so confusing, just who were these people? As he pondered this question, he noticed one approaching him, Salasais if he remembered correctly. “I… Uhm…” Suddenly his emotions came flowing back. He’d been so focused, and so anxious and so everything that he’d almost forgotten. Sure he’d come here alone, but that hadn’t been out of choice. He’d been travelling with someone, but she’d disappeared and he could only assume that something bad had happened. Thinking about what else the man had said, he pondered for a moment before continuing his attempt at speech. “I arrived alone… I needed supplies, but… Uhm, there was someone in the forest and... She was attacked by dinosaurs and then… She was with the marines, they gave me shelter and uhm… In return they wanted me to defend them from dino’s, to collect some plants which could help their medical knowledge… They said nothing about fighting people and…” His words fell off, as he grew more and more quiet. He was anxious, very anxious. Normally he’d be a little awkward, but he was just forcing all his words out and panicking. This guy had just been his enemy, and although interesting in many ways he was still… Scary. Unlike most other people, he had some way of taking down the cyborg. After all, he still had to breathe. Plus right now he was literally surrounded by enemies, alone in all of that. He was a pirate, wanted by marines, not that they knew. And he’d literally just been facing these other locals… Oh he’d gotten himself into such a mess, a spiral of terrible happenings that he just couldn’t escape. His ands clenched and he forced himself to look down at the floor, not letting anyone see his face… Not right now. “I…I just want supplies… And some peace and… Maybe some happiness and… Uh, uhm… Just some food…” |

Morose eyed Kid with a dead stare that expressed fatigue and weariness that went deeper than the physical. As they walked he listened quietly and said nothing. He finally sighed. "We have food back at the ship. You can get fed there. You know too much to let go now and would be a pain to deal with later if you weren't on our side. Might as well come back with us and get fixed up. We can keep an eye on you better that way if you do decide to pull something." Morose said coldly, his eyes not on the people he spoke to but on a far off something that no one could see. Whatever it was, only he saw it. When the party returned to the beach, the boats were prepared for departure. The feeding from earlier that day had long since ended with a long snake-like skeleton washed ashore. Without any dorsal fins above water, the coast seemed safe enough to cross back to the Freedom Ship. Wounded took priority with Morose arriving soon after to begin fixing lunch in his galley. The young chef prepared a hearty meal of meat and grains while the broth created from the preparation was given to the men too injured to eat normal food yet. The fatigue that had lingered in Morose ebbed away like a bad water being washed out to sea. He seemed as much a part of the kitchen as the pots and pans and his gloomy mood never persisted in his galley. Evening arrived in time and by that point, most of the men were treated as best as they could be. Many would be bed ridden for a week or more. Palatable snacks of a more manageable size were circulated among the sick men by the shorter chef. The dinosaurs they had hauled back with them were a bit tough in areas, but they were rich in nutrition not common in farm raised animals. Morose was able to experiment some. This was his place. Not some random battle field or neck deep in trouble. Just a chef in his kitchen. Morose end. |

The stranger which was now compelled to join them was a bit of an odd experience for Salas. He had been feared before, but Kid didn't seem to be afraid of anything in particular, just really nervous about pretty much everything. It was good that they would have to keep the young man around since it would give him time to figure out exactly what the details behind Kid were, how he could resist the effects of his spores and stand against dinosaurs but couldn't seem to speak a complete thought without doubting himself. Such things spoke of a troubled soul and, perhaps, having a soul's troubles to think of besides his own could do him some good. "So you are drifting, then. There is no shortage of winds on Our way in this world, so perhaps the time you'll spend with Us will take you somewhere of use to you. Now come, there is much to do and whatever your hands can do will be appreciated. Perhaps you would like to give Salasais your name as well, unless you wish to remain a stranger in our midst forever." True to his statement, there was a great deal to be done when they returned to the ship. Injuries required tending, which the Shaman did with all the efficiency his body could afford him. It was relaxing to have so much to do, being busied with the healing arts gave him time not to think about the more destructive things he could do and had already done. As always, nothing was ever simple for the Freedom Pirates and there was rarely much time for rest. |

The teen looked up in surprise as the other person who seemed to have some say in what went on with their group spoke up. He had blond hair, and looked maybe a little older than Kid himself although he couldn’t quite tell. He felt a little uncertain seeing as he was essentially being called a danger, but the offer of both food and company would probably be what he needed, and besides… It wouldn’t be long before the marines realised who he was. If he were to go with them, he’d need to go get his ship back first. “T-Thankyou” He replied, milling over the idea in his head. That was, until Salasais spoke again, understanding of the teen to some degree. He managed a smile, wiping his eyes and despite his cheeks being red and his skin itching like crazy he managed to put on a front, taking in a deep breath and sighing it back out. He supposed he could try going along with them, they seemed accepting and if he brought his ship along he could always leave if needs be. The idea of introducing himself after the near PTSD inducing experience with the blue caps though… “I-I guess I’m sort of ok at making things… And I know how to make sweets I guess. I’m… I’m Kid” He murmured, loud enough for them to hear but quiet enough to stay in his comfort zone. He’d considered using his middle name, just to make it easier but decided against it because he’d end up forgetting. He also noted that Salasais had not only continued to refer to himself as plural but also using his own name. Weirdly enough it kind of soothed him, but he’d figure out why a little later. For now, perhaps he’d finally found a place for himself, though it was maybe a bit too soon to judge. As the day went by, Kid found himself back at his ship, managing to un-beach it with the help of one or two of the crew. He didn’t know their names, but he would be sure to try learn them. It took some time but eventually he managed to get his ship parked up next to theirs. He quickly had a clean-up of the place, after he’d left it a bit of a mess the day before after numerous panic attacks and other such breakdowns. Something about the place felt weird, but he had no idea why, however he did find a cat on board which surprised him. He had no idea how long it had been there, but he’d make sure to take care of it. But for now… He supposed it was time to talk with his new allies, and begin the next step of his adventure. |

Morose - 24 SD, 12,000,000 Beli. Salasais - 20 SD, 10,000,000 Beli. Kid - 23 SD, 11,500,000 Beli. Salas Earned: Chroma's Pendant - Having obtained this charm from the groovy Seaknight Chroma, Salasais has found something that can help him ascertain the spirits of the wilderness. Whilst wearing this charm, non-aggressive animals will find themselves at ease in his presence. Non-scoopable Kid Found: Dinosnacks!" - In the Marine camp, Kid managed to find these tasty treats. There aren't many in a pack, or at least, there aren't as many as there used to be, so he'll have to pick his moment to eat these. Once these biscuit like treats are consumed though, Kid is able to release a massive roar, like an actual dinosaur! These are single use only! Notes: Interesting story, I felt the Marine attack was quite rushed and not very warranting of a rise in bounty. It was very enjoyable narrating for you guys! Edited by Dusk, Oct 30 2017, 02:58 AM.
