The Shaman had hoped that Morose were in a more reasonable mood and saw the other men about to react poorly to the chef's rant. He gave them a look which said "let me handle this" with an insistence to it that implied he wanted the rest of the crew to stay out of the matter. He then returned his direction to the fuming teenager whose current attitude was reminding him of the poor first impression he had gotten from Morose what seemed like an eternity ago. "And Salas thought We were the hard-hearted one... We cannot expect you to understand Salasais in this, you did not see what We have seen. This is not something we can remain neutral on, however. We cannot leave this island for some time and if the 'wild woman' loses her ground then the marines will find us too before long, and then we will not have any allies against them and yet another costly battle will be upon us..." The Shaman thought of the many times that they had been forced to fight in the past, how many times he had nearly died in his berserker rage, how many people died on his watch or at his hand. "It is Our fate to be hunted by Trouble, we can never truly escape it. We can wait for it to come to us or we can face it while we have the advantage! We can face it with an ally that knows how to make the land itself fight with us. But strategic value is not the reason Salas will fight, it is because We have been welcomed here and this island has beauty that Salas will not see defiled. Your counsel is noted, We will not force you to agree or to get involved. If this is not Morose' fight he is free to remain on the sidelines." He turned away from Morose before the last sentence of his speech. He had to acknowledge that his passion for this fight was entirely a personal matter, but much of the crew felt the same way. Morose did not because he hadn't shared the experience of closeness with the land that he did. He was somewhat afraid of what he would do in another fight against armed forces, but his vision the night before opened his mind to the thought that maybe he had somewhat more control than he gave himself credit for. He left Morose a thought of his own, delivered with more confidence than he had used in most of their interactions "Salas kindly reminds you that it is best not to call things you don't understand foolish; we were invited and We accepted. If we cultivate this friendship perhaps we can finally have an island we can safely return to if necessary." With that said, he made his way back to Jane's Hut -------- "We have discussed the matter and Salasais has decided to fight for your cause. Not all among Our people wish to involve themselves and they will not be compelled to, but you and yours will have help against the coming invaders. We feel the spirit of this land and will not have it defiled by those who disrespect it." |

Something inside the boy made him happy, knowing that he was wanted here. Of course he knew it was way too late to get a pardon from the marines, but perhaps if he helped them he’d have his bounty decreased? Who knew, but as he continued to listen he couldn’t help but feel a little bad. Punching dinosaurs was a little mean, they didn’t exactly know any better, but then arguably neither did humans. Ah, it was a choice of ethics but he supposed if he wanted some resources he had no choice but to go along with things. Those crates of bacon and sugar would be his… He was interested to hear that they’d actually provide him with any gear he may want, although he doubted he needed much more than his body and mace when it came to simple Dino’s. It still felt weird thinking that they existed here, but whatever. He winced a little bit as one individual patted him on the back, but he soon realised that it was to comfort him and he relaxed a little bit. Nodding towards some of them, he sat there looking at his food for a while. He knew he needed to eat, but he also knew he needed to go. But he also didn’t want to eat because he was conscious about it. Nevertheless, he took a few small bites, before pushing his plate away and getting ready to move. Slowly he made his way through the camp, avoiding eye contact and just generally trying to remain invisible where he could. It wasn’t long before he appeared at the front of the camp though, albeit very conscious about himself. He was a pirate surrounded by armed marines, helping them to beat up innocent animals which seemed to have some sort of feud with them. It was a few hours away from camp though… It felt off for some reason. Maybe he just didn’t trust marines much. “I’m h-here…” He muttered, probably too quiet to be heard anyway. Perhaps he just needed some lone time, but after a weird night’s sleep he had no clue what he needed. He’d been asleep surrounded by the enemy, and could have woken up bound with a gun to his head, an explanation demanded from him. Shaking his head slowly he tried to clear the thought. What if someone there could like… Read minds or something? He’d be doomed. Actually what did it matter? If they could read minds he’d be doomed whether he actively thought about it or not, not that he believed anyone could read his mind anyway. Weird powers existed out there, but he doubted that was one. Looking around he couldn’t help but feel out of place. Many people here wore the typical marine attire, yet here he was looking like some sort of hobo. Some blue shorts and a tatty grey t-shirt weren’t exactly making him look like one of the group. Thankfully Dinosaurs didn’t discriminate from what he knew of, so the emo looking teen wouldn’t be first to be killed, if they could break through steel. |

Morose did not reply. He did not have time before Salas left. Left with the few men still on the beach that didn't accompany the captain, Morose stared after the trees not saying anything. His lips were downturned in displeasure, and the look in his eyes that his men saw was one of a corpse. Rather than hanging his wet jacket on a fallen tree to dry in the sun, Morose dropped it without a second look. One of the men picked it up and dusted it off before handing it up for the chef, however, Morose did not seem to notice while he walked off. While the freedom crew wordlessly watched with awkward glances, Morose strode down the length of the beach alone. It wasn't until he was out-of-sight around the bend that he bothered looking back. He sighed heavily and stared intently at a cluster of palm trees at the beach's edge. At some point not clear to any onlooker, Morose had one of his knives in hand. As if realizing it himself for the first time, Morose looked at his hand with the blade in it an started slightly before bringing it up for a closer inspection. His reflection was visible in the blade, but the look of distaste he held did not lessen. Moving next to the trees, the blade dropped to his side was now different. In a very intentional sweep of the air, the knife passed through the air. In the same moment, the trees before Morose bent back violently as if rocked by a hurricane before snapping at their bases. The youth sighed again and returned to his men. His knives were no longer visible. Later, Morose and the men that opted to come with him joined Salas and Jane with the rest of the crew. "...some of the men do not wish to get involved but we are here anyway. A crew needs to stand behind its captain. Some of need to keep promises besides..." Morose said with emphasis. tech Jane's hooded face hid most of her reaction, but she looked back and forth between the 2 groups seemingly pleased. The number of men that would lend their aid was sizable. "Thank you everyone. The voice of man on the side of nature will be strong this day. Come. We must prepare for the moment of conflict is soon at hand." Jane said beckoning for all of them to follow her to the grounds that would be contested. The marines Kid accompanied set off soon after his arrived. The party traveled a few hours to the other side of the island. The land they wished to acquire was there. Dinosaurs encounter along the way gave them wide berth or were quickly subdued by the marines' weaponry. Most of their ammunition were tranquilizers of some kind. Eventually arriving at the site, the marines with Kid grew anxious and quickly fanned out with their senses on high alert. They then delved into deeper wood that was gloomy and filled with large trees. The vegetation here had been cut down or trampled for the most part with a few exceptions. Footprints in the underbrush and damaged trees indicated past skirmishes. Little did the marines know pirates laid in wait with dinosaurs not far off as well. OOC

Salasais was glad to see Morose and the rest of the men arrive to join the group, though the chef's displeasure at being roped into the matter was palpable. Dealing with the disharmony in his crew would have to be a priority for sure, if only he didn't have such a monumental task ahead of him just to get his own mind in order with his body. He could take a lesson from this current situation, a literal alliance of man and beast to protect a thing of beauty. If the indelicate men of the Freedom Pirates could work in unity with the natural world then there would be some hope for him yet, perhaps. In the dark of the woods near the contested location, The Shaman and the coalition of Little Garden's wildlife and the pirates had taken positions to lie in wait. For his own part, Salas had climbed up to one of the higher branches with the assistance of his moss limbs for grip and balance. He watched for the incoming invaders, their approach being detected easily enough by their numbers and their forcing their way along. He could see that they were definitely marines, at least for the most part. Not all of them looked like fighters, so he would have to be careful not to utterly destroy them. Salas held his ritual knife in one hand and Chroma's stone in the other as he closed his eyes for a moment to prepare himself before carefully securing the items to his belt and piercing a familiar bone charm into his arm. The springy mushrooms quickly emerged from his from his body and he jumped down from the branch, bouncing off of a few other branches on his way down before springing off of a large tree trunk to touch down on the ground just behind the marines' lines. "You should not be here, face the anger of a land offended!" As the shaman spoke, various spots he had touched on the trees glowed with luminescent spores that his moss limbs deposited on his way down to signal the beginning of the attack. |

Kid was surprised that the marines actually seemed willing. From his past experiences he’d seen marines been completely wary and unready to do anything that put their lives at risk, yet here they seemed actively ready to go beat up dinosaurs. Perhaps it was partially down to him being there, which made him feel wanted but also nervous. If he screwed up he’d feel completely at fault. Then again when didn’t he feel at fault for something? A small smile played on his lips as he was almost entertained by his inner turmoil and self-loathing. Hell, he didn’t even reason he just knew he was a bad person. Still… Life went on. The group moved through the jungle, the teen keeping his mace ready, his hand moving back to the handle on his back every few moments and especially whenever he heard a noise such as rustling of brushes. It was usually nothing, with the occasional small raptor which even the weaker looking marines managed to punt away with not too much issue. If they’d been having issues… He was wary what they were actually going to see. What did he have that they didn’t? Hell, only one scientist had seen him fight, so just… Why? After a little while longer, eventually Kid’s question seemed to be answered. Instead of a dangerous dinosaur, or any sort of prehistoric animal at all for that matter, he heard a voice behind him. Spinning quickly and instinctively drawing his weapon, the teen eyed up his opponent. At first he’d thought he was fighting talking dinosaurs, which honestly he couldn’t even bring himself to do anyway… But this was a human. Admittedly not an entirely human looking human, but one nonetheless. There seemed to be lights of some sorts on some of the trees all of a sudden, and the man himself looked like he may have caused them, with many lumps across his body that appeared foreign. Stepping forwards, pushing back a marine or two in the way he remained silent but eyed up his… Opponent. This was no dinosaur like he had been told, this was… An inhabitant? Had the marines lied to him, or perhaps this was someone else entirely. He wasn’t personally great with words but he knew when he needed to speak, and that happened to be now because he’d shoved to the front of the group. He… Was really stupid, wow. Slowly he spoke up, quietly at first but growing in volume. “I… You… What do you want, with… Er, this group?” He slowly turned towards the group, murmuring towards the marines a question: “Who?” A simple enough question, one which may end up changing how things went here. His spare hand fiddled with something in his pocket, running over the smooth surface. Something metallic for sure. His mace was over his right shoulder, his hand near the base of the handle. His eyes quickly darted back towards the almost druidic looking man. Or was it shamanistic? He wondered the difference briefly, but decided to figure that out later, if he wasn’t killed beforehand that was. |

At Salas's signal, all pirates with him leaped from their hiding places. The marines distracted by Salas's sudden appearance didn't have a chance. Outnumbered and faced with an unexpected enemy, the marines were quickly dispatched save for a few of the more talented ones. Leaving Salas to Kid, the more veteran marines picked up the slack for their fallen comrades. With sword and gun, they each fought off multiple men at once and held their own. The Freedom Crew started taking on casualties. Morose witnessed this all from his hiding place at the rear. While the rest rushed forward to engage, he had stayed where he was. "...a small force...doesn't appear to be another coming from behind..." Morose quietly mused to himself before moving back somewhat to peek at their flanks. He did not detect any ambushes coming from the sides, at least, none of marine make. Preferring to keep his distance, Morose looked back at the main force and sized up the men in the marine company. "...half of them will crumble when severely pressured...the other half will put up a fight...wait, that's not a marine" Morose considered before realizing how much Kid stood apart from the men he was with. It was not long before Salas, Kid, and 3 marines remained in a tight circle. Of the 30 pirates, only 10 could still fight and were creating a ring around the men in the middle. Everyone involved in the fighting was catching their breath and listening in on the conversation. Morose did the same but remained hidden, his eyes and ears intent on the exchange being had. When Jane crept up beside him, he did not turn away. "There are many injured. It would seem the situation capable of resolving itself peacefully this day." "Perhaps, but if we let these men go back, they will now know Salas and the rest of us are on the island. It could further complicate things for us and you. I knew this was foolish. Unless we are set on killing all those men, we are only going to make things harder in the long run." "Then perhaps killing them is best," Jane said with absolute indifference. Morose suddenly looked at her, eyes wide and shocked. "You did not ask a favor of murderers, lady. We are not your minions to do all the dirty work for you and your pets." "You misunderstand. It is not murder. It is survival. For one to live, another must perish and in most cases be consumed by the stronger. I assumed you, speakers of chaos, pirates, would understand this." Jane explained with absolute, unwavering certainty. It was a bit sudden for Morose who was rendered speechless. "I'm a chef. I feed and take care of people. Despite being pirates, we are people with morals and self-restraint. Behaving like animals because its natural and convenient for what we want is not an excuse..." "...and I suppose you do not feed your men meat? You do not feed them produce cultivated with land cleared of native flora and fauna?" Morose did not respond and looked away. He seemed trapped in his head with his thoughts. Even the proceedings with the marines were slipping his notice. "You may have some of my pity, but in the state you are, you are fated to be consumed by this world if not this island and no one can save you." Morose remained silent. After Jane had finished she stealthily moved further into the rain forest. The dinosaurs anxiously waited for their turn. |

The trap had been sprung and much of the marine escort had been routed. All that remained in fighting form were some of the more seasoned fighters that could hold their own against the undisciplined numbers of the freedom pirates. The shaman was almost shocked at just how quickly the battle had begun and come close to ending. It was regrettable that things had gone so far, but it would be better that this ended quickly. One thing which had taken hold of Salas' attention even as the battle was breaking out was the young person that was among the band of marines but obviously not a part of them. The youth stammered out what could only be assumed were questions and made it pretty obvious that he was pretty insecure in his current position. He had the shaman's pity, but he at least seemed to be armed, so not too much of it. "It is very unfortunate that your fate has placed you on the wrong side of this conflict, but We gave Our word that we would defend this land against the trespassers you are following. Defend them or flee, Our path is set." As he spoke, one of the marines tried to attack him from behind only to be caught in the clutches of Salasais' moss limb and thrown aside. He closed his eyes for the briefest of moments as he focused his mind on the sensation of creating his paralytic spores before bouncing off of another of his bounce shrooms, spinning for the most efficient dispersal of his spores against the men that were fighting back the masses of his crew. He kept an eye on the primary unknown of the scene, always ready to strike if provoked. For now, his aim was to avoid causing too much unnecessary suffering in his opponents. Driving them to surrender unconditionally would be easier on his conscience than simply slaughtering them en masse. Techs and Items

Kid stood in shock as many of the marines which he had been working with were so easily dispatched, his fear moreso for the scientists though which for the most part were fairly unarmed. The teen remained quiet through this, only able to watch in horror as people that he had almost called teammates fell before him. Gritting his teeth he turned back towards the man that appeared to be in charge, who although also seemed rather youthful, also seemed rather battle hardened. His mind was swimming right now, as he remained unsure of himself after having been lied to about his opponents. “Defend or flee…” He muttered. He looked around, pirates surrounded the remaining cluster of forces. Kid only just now truly noticed the weird green hands which acted behind the weird treeman, grabbing one of the marines and throwing him to one side. These people were clearly strong, most likely stronger than he himself, and he had an inkling that if he tried to fight he’d end up being beaten badly. On the other hand he’d agreed to help these people and despite having been lied to he still felt bad about it. As he remained stood there, something began to catch in his throat and he coughed, suddenly his muscles ceasing up and refusing to obey properly. His fear began to rise, his anger and confusion too. “Stop… STOP!” He yelled, towards the marines and pirates alike. Through coughing and deep breaths he was trying to stop from any more conflict. He didn’t want to cause any hurt to anyone here, but as his hand in his pocket clutched the metal sphere tighter… He’d do what he must if it came to it. “They’re just… Here to study flora. W-Why must it be war? It could be the source of… I don’t know new cures to dangerous illnesses… I’m sure the marines would provide you… Resources or s-something for your help” He looked down at the floor, hoping that he wasn’t the centre of attention. He spoke his mind though, his last stand before he actually got serious. He had found it hard to speak out due to a mix of the weird catch in his throat, and his general nervousness which always led to conversation being difficult. Despite having tricks up his sleeves to keep these pirates stuck for a few minutes at least… He felt a duty to at least try and help, without resulting to violence straight away. The teen then looked up, across the battlefield this clearing had become. The man with weird green hands stood nearby, the marines and generic pirates remained close. Only three marines remained and were completely outnumbered by the pirates, or… Presumable pirates. He supposed they were really just locals, or appeared to be. In fact they were in the wrong for trespassing, but even then they could have at least tried to talk it out. In the back he could see two individuals speaking about something, perhaps tactics or maybe indifferent to the fight? He sighed slightly, just hoping that what he’d said would get through to them and save the remaining marines. |

Despite the swift savagery on the behalf the Freedom Crew, nearly all of the marines still breathed despite some sustaining substantial injury. Salas's dispersion of spores would not reach them, but the veteran marines near him were helplessly caught up in it. Their ability to continue had been zapped from them. Barely able to stand, they held their weapons defiantly with sharp eyes that would not back down to enemies of order while they could still stand. The remaining pirates would be able to overwhelm the remaining marines as soon as Salas's cloud dispersed enough that they would get afflicted by what remained in the air. Morose was still lost in thoughts unspoken when he looked up suddenly from the leaves he hid in. Kid's sudden cry brought him back to the present. The chef's sharp eyes made quick assessments of the downed men, the spores, and the exchange between the leaving and the doomed. A heavy rustling deeper in the forest was fast approaching. The sounds of many lumbering creatures were unmistakable. The boy finally closed his eyes with furrowed brow and sighed heavily. Standing again, he was a young man with eyes open and filled with conviction. Despite those fighting in the clearing potentially seeing him, Morose heedlessly stepped out of his hiding place and pulled a leather sack from his jacket. Loosing the leather cord that fastened it, he plopped one round cream colored bun in his hand before immediately shoving it into his mouth. Had it tasted good, Morose's expression did not show it as he chewed mirthlessly while stowing the bag away. From the gloom, Jane appeared mounted atop a triceratops with a few other large dinosaurs in tow. Armored, horned, oversized, and powerful, the beasts seemed imposing enough on their own. That they would need to come now when it seemed as though things were wrapping up in the clearing was odd. "You and your pets don't need to join the fight, Jane." Morose called to her, standing much taller and more confident now despite being at risk of being trampled by beasts that would break bones simply for stepping down on a victim. "Far be it for us to allow others to do our 'dirty work'. Animals too weak to feed themselves will be devoured." Jane threw Morose's words in his face while implying what she intended. It was cold and certain. Perhaps one too many of her pets were taken from her by the marines. "Things will become difficult for us, but things will be settled by them. You brought us into this and we will deal with it our way." "I know not where your will came from, but its expected of a speaker of chaos to not make sense. Stand aside, your message from earlier still speaks true: this will not end so long as both sides still remain." "I'll not let you interfere, *****" Morose replied hatefully as he glared up at her and tensed his body for action. "Know that it was not my intention for you to be hurt, but for what must be done, you leave little choice." Jane's feet tapped the sides of the Triceratop's back and the best began lumbering forward, the beasts it led following behind in a spread out pattern. The beast didn't see what hit it. One moment it was striding forward with powerful steps, the next it was toppling to the side, off-balance. Jane nearly toppled off its back but managed to grab hold and stay mounted. In the beasts stupified state, Morose moved like a blur of the side of the creature to stand on its head with a kitchen knife pointed at Jane. Jane looked at Morose with eyes that seemed to stare into the soul. She was visibly annoyed, but sighed and looked away finally. The dinosaurs following the leader also stopped with anxious sounds rumbling from them. techs

Things were nearly ended as fast as they started. The only thing keeping the marines alive was the fact that the toxin holding them held the pirates that were vulnerable to it at bay. Strangely, though, the teenager that stood among them didn't seem to feel the effects as strongly as the seasoned warriors around them, and also was crying out in opposition to the violence. The protests of Kid returned some of Chroma's recent words to Salas' mind. He didn't have to be a force of destruction. His meditations had revealed that the supposedly murderous spirit inside of him didn't have to be, either. He turned to Kid with a look of curious condescension, as if he had noticed a mildly interesting flower in his path. "Strange. How is it you can still move, child? And why did these people bring you here if not to fight for them? Marines have no respect for the wild things, they want nothing but to bend this place to their will. We are not without mercy, or your friends would already be dead. Our terms are this: If they leave their weapons and cease their trespassing, they may leave this place with no further casualties. They must leave this island in all haste and swear to speak nothing of our encounter. If they cannot make this promise in good faith, then they all die." The shaman turned briefly to the few marines standing, the spores were slowly settling and the freedom pirates would soon be upon them. "So then, what say you? The time We have made for words passes quickly. Salasais does not wish your destruction, but We have made promises to end your intrusion. We risk much in even considering sparing you, do not make Us regret giving you this chance." Salasais was conflicted, he had to admit that Morose was right about the promise he made being foolish. He acted rashly and began something he might not have been ready to finish. He could convince his men to stand down, but would Jane and her allies be so readily turned aside? Could the marines be trusted not to betray their surrender if they accepted it? They knew him only as a murderous outlaw and probably trusted him less than he did them. Things had grown quite murky indeed, He had enacted a violent plan and hesitated, putting himself and everyone over whom he felt responsible in danger. He still hoped that he could resolve this without losing himself to bloodlust again, not after he had suffered through so much guilt already. |

The teen could hear loud noises off in the distance, like the movement of dinosaurs, a large one or perhaps a group of them at that. A bead of sweat ran down his face, a mixture of fear and heat from the rainforest getting to him. His throat burned now, and he could feel some sort of lack of energy, but despite this he did his best to stand against the attackers, his weapon still ready despite everything, still ready to defend himself. Kid remained quiet for a moment as the nature man spoke, speaking in a rather odd fashion. He wasn't sure how he felt being referred to as child, but he supposed he was curious as to why he hadn't fallen when the others had. The burning in his throat and energy... It must have been this man, but to be doing such a thing surely he also looked for peace, else he would already be striking out. "I don't know... I don't know. I was j-just traveling, I needed resources and so... Helping seemed logical... They told me there would... There'd only be animals... Nothing about people..." He felt bad even admitting that he was willing to hurt animals, especially considering these locals seemed at peace with the wildlife, yet he was sure they'd understand his issues. He went quiet as the man spoke to the marines, looking at them expectantly as if willing them to comply. They could try their own negotiations, but he wasn't their person for the job. Hell he had issues speaking as it was. His eyebrow raised slightly as the man presumably referred to himself again in third person... Salasais. Interesting. Slowly the teen strapped his mace across his back again, making sure not to alarm anyone with his movements. Once it was there he simply placed both hands in his pockets and waited, groggily at that. He still remained curious about those footsteps though... Just out of view. |

The marines looked around hatefully. Even if they could move to flee, they couldn't leave behind all their injured men. Rather than speaking the hateful words they likely felt, they remained silent seemingly accepting their defeat. Meanwhile, Morose stood with weapons drawn on Jane. Jane did not bother looking at Morose before she mused, "It sounds like negotiations have come to a stand still. It's not unlike similar encounters in the past: the interlopers would be defeated and sent fleeing only to return in greater number and capabilities. You can see it in their eyes. They will not simply accept their defeat and change their ways. If man were a simpler creature, I'd say it was something innate in their nature that causes them to buck up against the order of things...no, if they were simpler, they would more readily accept the order of things once met with a greater force of nature. Immediate survival supersedes risk and the chance of something better. Man, in their number and drive, always seek to subjugate nature to their whims and their reasons for doing so are varied and hard to snuff out completely. However, their reasons do not matter. Nature will not wane her fury simply because man wishes it so. " Jane suddenly turned to look at Morose "That said, know your place, son of man, and know their your desires will take more than wishful thinking to hold back the forces of nature you seek to control." Suddenly, the dinosaur beneath their feet lurched to its feet and started stampeding out of the forest with the other 4 dinosaurs fanned out behind it in pursuit. Their momentum would likely trample and bulldoze all in their way as they neared the gathering of marines and Pirates. Morose nearly fell but found his balance and remained standing atop the triceratop's back with Jane. Seated, she was in no risk of following, but Morose regularly had to shift his weight back and forth to make sure he wasn't caught on the outside and launched off. Following would not be so bad, but being trampled underfoot did not seem wise as the shattered trunk of a fallen tree attested with a loud snap and splinter. The chef looked briefly in the direction of his captain and the other men. There was no time. "I don't want to kill you!" "That's a kind and wise gesture. Killing me would not stop my friends at this point. However, know that hurting my friends would be equivalent to hurting my own flesh and blood and you will have my wrath to contend with, boy!" Morose cursed and grit his teeth. There was no time for indecisiveness. He leaped from the back of the dinosaur and landed ahead of it where he immediately turned around to put his back to the negotiations still going on. Taking a breath, Morose was about to get mowed down when...nothing. The chef's brain food buns were in full affect as the youth was able to take everything in and react in a mere fraction of a moment that to him stretched far beyond the limits of his normal consciousness. The heavy beasts lumbering toward him seemed ridiculously slow and clumsy. Even the massive triceratops nearly to him was laughably avoidable with little effort. Normally, Morose would do just that, but now was not the time since failing to stop the beasts would result in an irreparable breakdown in talks. With weapons still in hand and raised in clenched fists, Morose dashed toward the opposition with eyes clear and focused. Meeting the triceratops in the lead first, his arms streaked out before him in an impossible flurry that sounded like a hail storm if the stones were metal ingots. The dinosaur's eyes struggled to track Morose before he had moved into its blind spot between its eyes, but knowing where he was did not leave any time to react before the Dinosaur was mercilessly beat with guiding blows that forced its head up and to the right followed by another rain of blows that sent its head whipping back the other way and down. Morose had already moved to the next closest dinosaur while the first way he pummeled stumbled and went sliding and rolling over itself from its own momentum. Some freedom pirates clustered around a few downed marines were moments from being trampled when Morose intercepted the last standing dinosaur with the same flurry of blows he delivered to the rest. Unfortunately, the chef's iron kitchen knives would be forced to their limit in order to truly redirect the remaining dinosaur and not just set it off balance. The result of which would see it crushing the men if not properly diverted. The first flurry went off without a hitch. Morose's sped up perception saw the beast's head forcefully turned away from the men. One more toward the same side should be sufficient, shatter... The two iron knives Morose held shattered and then time seemed to catch up with him as Morose was violently shunted through the air as the side of the dinosaur's body smashed into his much smaller frame and launching him. The men left behind would be next. Meanwhile, the other dinosaurs were slowly stumbling to their feet, uninjured, but confused and disoriented as to what happened. Jane had been forcefully dismounted but was no worse for wear. techs

The pressure was palpable, Pirates were standing ready to finish off the disabled marines and dinosaurs were already on their way into the fray to crush anything unable to avoid them. Salasais shouldn't have felt so unsure, he thought, as these people belonged to the ranks of his enemies. He could see it in their eyes that they would have been more than willing to cut him down if they had the power to do so, but they didn't and that was what put him into this dilemma. The marines were beaten and Jane's Family had the intent to seal their fate permanently. It was a reasonable action, but hearing the panic in Kid's voice gave him a different perspective on the group. And the recent stirrings of emotion in dealing with Chroma and his own visions made the decision no less difficult. He knew how Morose felt and could see it in action as the chef did his best to keep the dinosaur charge at bay without killing them. "Very well then, We will give you time to consider your position in this. Our friend wants to avoid any unnecessary death as well. When the hostilities are ended we can discuss your fate." The shaman turned his back on the paralyzed marines but looked back and gave a warning, "You are at Our mercy, take up arms against us again and perish." With that said, he looked Kid in the eyes briefly before jumping to help Morose. The size of the beasts meant that they would easily survive anything his spores could do, and their survival instincts would tell them to get away from anything that would make them sick, so he sprang to the nearest dinosaur and focused on making use of his stunning spores. They wouldn't physically harm the creatures or bystanders, but it would put a swift halt to their aggression. "Forgive the change of heart, but We must know more before we can destroy so many lives. As one connected to nature We cannot let it be imposed upon, but as a son of Man We cannot kill the defenseless without the burden of guilt." With the marines already captured, if the dinosaurs could be subdued without bloodshed, it might have been possible to finally resolve the standoff once and for all. The marines would not be able to flee and regroup, they would be forced to negotiate or die. Techs and Effects

The boy couldn’t help but feel intimidated as the one known as Salasais, the assumable leader of this group spoke to him. He spoke kind words, to spare them if he could assuming the marines didn’t make any dumb words but even then… His heart was beating a hundred and one miles an hour, his head was spinning and his skin across his whole body was itching like ants were crawling under his skin… Yet he believed this man. The pressure for now was off, and in some ways he’d fought the beasts like he’d been asked to, although the real beasts here were in fact the marines. Suddenly the noise from before emerged, in the form of a large dinosaur trampling plants and charging towards the group. It appeared that he wasn’t about to physically stop the creature, jyet if he didn’t the marines and his group alike would be killed. Perhaps he was poisoning the air like before, yet… If it hadn’t worked on him surely it wouldn’t work on a dinosaur, though he supposed even now he felt the side effects. Charging forwards, his mind acted on instinct. It had to change something about the creature, and therefore he had a much weaker foe… The teen felt the wind almost knocked out of him as he slammed into the creature, an arm either side of its head to slow it down, his torso against the front to act as a wall, his feet digging into the ground. He had no attachment to anyone here, yet here he was risking his life for them. He attempted to sooth the animal whilst holding it off, whispering to it most likely with little success. He huffed as he exerted his strength, almost going overboard trying to push the creature back or to stop it. This was a charging dinosaur after all, even if it was slowed it was unlikely it would stop there and then. “Get… Back everyone” Edited by Gigasheep, Aug 16 2017, 01:43 AM.

Morose lay sprawled out in a bed of flattened grasses and underbrush. His eyes closed and his hands free of any knives, he was defenseless in appearance. Fortunately, he was furthest from the battle. He mouthed words without sound and he stirred. "...mom..." He whispered out loud as his eyes fluttered before opening to a blurry view of the forest canopy overhead. He grunted disdainfully and moved with several groans and pops coming from his body as he rolled to his side before sitting up. It was only a moment of looking around unknowingly before his sense returned to him. His eyes, now filled with the clarity of before thanks to his brain buns, scanned the battle happening several yards away. Marines were slowly but surely rousing themselves and aiding each other in an apparent evacuation. Kid was managing to hold back one dinosaur by himself. Salas's spores kept 3 at bay including Jane who had remounted one. More miraculously, the remaining freedom pirates all banded together and were holding back another dinosaur with all the men straining and doing their best while the injured were moved. Fortunately, none of the beasts had the momentum of their charge going into the assault allowing the quick actions of the pirates and kid to halt the dino's in their tracks. Most of the marines didn't bother looking at Morose as they stumbled away leaning on each other. Morose eyed them wearily, but said nothing to them as he stood. The youth brushing himself off, he could not help but look disheveled as he returned to the front as the two groups held their ground. Morose took special note of the stance Salas took confronting Jane. The chef smiled approvingly of his captain. There was nothing more to say. Jane seemed displeased, but not angry. It was a look that a mother gave to a child who spilled their milk. A forgivable annoyance. Perhaps an expected one. Morose standing at the back of the pack didn't have any particular reason to look smug, but he gave Jane a smirk anyway. Jane caught it and returned the look with a very disconcerting smile of her own. "It's always best to expect the unexpected from the speakers of Chaos. In the end, my family may remain in their territories for another moon perhaps. However, it seems we have come to the time of partings as is necessary when two forces that cannot devour each other must. I will not join you in your distorted views of the world and you'll not become one of my family. That said, you must now leave these lands. In gratitude for your aid, you shall be allowed to pass by me and mine, however, take too long or take more than what has been offered, and we will begin this all a new. Now go." Jane's words did not leave room for discussion. She had already turned her mount. Before attempts to debate the outcome or what was to be done next, the remaining dinosaurs stood their ground and tightened their formation. It was then obvious that several more dinosaurs of comparable size were present as they stomped out of the grasses and trees to line up with the rest. In moments, Kid and the remaining pirates were being encircled by powerful beasts. Only one direction was being made available to them: the way back to the beach and the ship. Morose looked around uneasy for a moment, cursing to himself under his breath, before grasping the situation and sighed heavily. "Perhaps we should get going while we can. Doubtful the marines will just quietly lick wounds now that they believe the dino lady to have more friends. Especially since a man that attacks with spores was among them." Morose suggested bitterly. The dinosaurs started forcefully tightening the circle where they could. Time was limited. |
