Heat. That was all Civic felt on his entire body. He rejoiced when sweat would run along the sides of his face or drop to his torso, gifting him a short moment of bliss from the daunting heat. He'd taken off all of the clothes that he could, and held both his shirt and red hood on his arm as he trudged through the desert. He'd rolled his pants legs up as far as they could go, which stopped at about halfway up his shin. "Why'd I come here again?" He said aloud to himself actually forgetting why or how he ended up in the island. He knew that he'd been here for a while because of the fact that he'd recently drunken the last of his emergency water supply. He'd need to find a natural source or a town very quickly to avoid troublesome health problems, but none seemed to be in sight at the moment. The hills of sand all blended together as the sun beat on it the same as a person, only with the sand being able to take the beating. The sand retained the heat of the sand and with every step Civic's boots grew hotter, eventually Civic was able to ignore the pain and adjust to it. The wind every once in awhile blew and sand would enter Civic's eyes, forcing him to spend a few moments rubbing his eyes incessantly trying to get it out. One such a time had just begun as the breeze would pick up and blow sand ever so gently into Civic's face, but also cooled his body off a bit from the heat. He'd grown adjusted to it and closed his eye's as he picked up his unoccupied hand to rub the sand out of his eyes. "Damn, deserted sand island." He muttered under his breathe, as he walked up the hill he'd started. Upon reaching the top he'd finally been able to get the sand out of his eyes and as he opened them he saw a giant tortoise carrying about six containers of water and effortlessly gliding through the sand. "I gotta be hallucinating." He muttered before leaping off of the sand hill. |

Leaving the Grand Line and going back to the Blues when one’s goal was to make it into the New World to fetch the person they fancied was something only the worst quitter would do. In this case, the worst quitter came in the form of one rather exhausted and sweaty magical girl who didn’t quite understand the concept of wearing more clothes while trekking across the desert. As it happened, her choice to pull down her long socks, remove her gloves, and tie her shirt up were rather poor moves that had in turn resulted in practically her entire body being a bright red within her first few hours of wandering around in the sand. “Kya-ah-ah…” She panted, her normally boisterous laugh instead replaced with a labored moan. Sure, this whole ordeal was probably a tiny bit her fault given her staunch refusal to accept directions from the man who had dropped her off in this place, and admittedly she didn’t exactly know the details of the island when she was dropped off. She would later come to realize that there was a small communication and that this was in fact not Dessertia. Dessertia was not a place. She was thinking of Candy Island, and it turned out that an additional ‘S’ is the difference between a land made of chocolate and gumdrops and a hellish landscape of burning sand. In any case, everyone makes mistakes and this was just another in a long chain of mistakes that seemed to make up Rema’s life. At this point, all she could do it stick up her chin, put on a brave face, and boldly misstep into the shifting sands and go tumbling down a sizable dune. After a seemingly endless fall, the magic girl eventually slumped up with a groan, finding herself in an oddly placed but much appreciated bit of shade. Blinking in confusion at the odd sight before her, she finally spoke after a long pause. “…I should have paid more attention in school because, I have no clue if this is a turtle, a tortoise, or why that even matters.” |

OOC "Huff, huff..." The breathing of one Elasaid Platts was audibly heavy as he slugged along the desert. His mission was simple – and relatively foolish depending on who you asked – the young man was hoping to hike his way from the shanty settlement of Far Guinea to the faced Mountain of Seven Faces. He figured it would be a fun little adventure, and it would also test him physically. The heat of the desert had called for practical thinking, however, and he had taken multiple precautions to fight against the very hot climate: his jacket was tied around his waist, his pant legs were rolled up several times, his brown leather shoes were tied together and looped around one of the belt loops on his tan slacks, and on his back he carried a large ten gallon gourd filled to the brim with water that he had purchased from the town before heading off. In his journey, he had already consumed at least a tenth of his provisions. Eli stopped once more in order to rehydrate, something he had found himself doing progressively more frequently the further he trudged on. It was no matter to him. He figured that if he finished about four of the ten gallons of water before reaching the base of the mountain he would just turn around, return to town, and try again the next day. After all, what else was he to do while on leave? He brushed his blond hair out of his face for the umpteenth time today, oodles of sweat constantly making it stick right to his skin. He was either going to have to cut it soon, or find a more efficient way of keeping it around. "Maybe... a ponytail? Or braids?" He huffed inquisitively to himself inbetween slightly labored breaths. His eyes wandered around, desperate for something other than hills of sand to fixate his gaze upon. Unexpectedly, he actually found exactly what he was looking for; a large rock in the shape of the letter L about 15 meters high was sticking right out of the sand. It was only about fifty meters away as well. "How the heck did I not see this thing earlier?" The boy asked, scratching his head and slowly approaching the shade the rock provided whilst throwing the gourd back onto his back. As he closed in on the shade, he let out of a heavy sigh of relief. It was probably ten degrees cooler under here! There was no shame in resting for another minute or so. After all, it wasn't like the mountain was going to move away. Besides, walking the desert at night would probably be much more manageable. But in the large blob of shadow, whom else would his eyes lay upon but an adorable and out of sorts magic girl? Eli blinked several times to make sure that she wasn't some sort of mirage. He had no idea how she had found her way out here, but she certainly didn't look to be in great shape. "Woah, hey there," he said, quickly taking the gourd off of his back and approaching her. "Are you alright? Do you want some water?" |

The good fortune of her sudden run in with the turt- uh, tort- …Slow shelled lizard thing sinking in, Rema licked her dry and slightly cracked lips as she reached for one of the jugs of water hanging from it’s back. “Easy there, buckaroo. Cutie just wants a sip…” she muttered under her breath, reassuring words completely betrayed by the wild twinge of avarice reflection in her eyes. Breathing slowing as her hand lingered over the vessel’s neck, the magic girl shut her eyes as she darted forward like a viper, greedily snatching at the container with speed and determination that was completely unwarranted given the type of creature she was dealing with. “Uck, this is warm, I hate hot water.” She noted with disgust, though the temperature quickly became the least of her concerns. “And it’s…soft?” Opening her eyes in confused concern, Rema gasped and immediately let go of what she had grabbed onto as she scrambled out of the shade and into the blazing sun once more. It seemed as if the desert had been playing tricks on her, the water bearing animal being little more than an illusion. On it’s own, a simple mirage wouldn’t have been too bad, but Rema quickly found herself mortified with what it had made her do- mutter to herself deliriously before grabbing hold of a passerby’s leg. Her already sunburnt face turning a deeper shade of red, the magic girl was quick to avert her gaze in embarrassment, only to quickly rise to her feet a moment later and stare at the man with strange intensity. “Fool me once…” Rema said to herself cryptically as she made a beeline towards him, stopping mere inches from him and preceding to scan him up, down and around. “Convincing, but just to be sure…” she went on with a nod, deftly raising up on her tippy toes and grabbing on to the man’s cheeks, giving them a firm squeeze. Satisfied that she wasn’t dealing with another mirage, she simply shot the man a smile before quickly shifting to a somewhat perplexed expression. “What’s the difference between a turtle and a tortoise?” |

Eli watched the girl with a look of concern mixed with a hint of perplexity. The dehydration looked like it was getting to the girl's head, as all of her movements seemed just a bit off to the young man. He took another moment to get a better look at the girl. Her attire and overall personage definitely made her stand out in the desert, and he thought that he could even make out just a few dabbles of sand around her mouth as if she had tried to consume some. "Uh, are you--" he started to say, before she sprung up on her feet and grabbed his face. The young man was immediately flustered, as he had never really had much physical contact with any girls, especially not such a cute one. His face turned red, and he momentarily forgot the situation at hand. He barely caught the end of her question, and attempted to sputter out an answer like a total Melvin. "I, haha uh... tortoise? Turtle?" He scratched the back of his head nervously. "Sorry, I didn't... I didn't know there was a difference?" His spacing between words was goofy and his tone all over the place as he was trying to talk himself out of his current anxiousness. "I'm not sure I've ever seen either, actually," he said inquisitively, cocking his head to the side and folded his arms. His heart rate was slowly returning to normal and he returned to relaxing a bit. He shook his head and remembered why he had even come over to her in the first place. They were in the middle of the desert! She needed water! "Oh, yeah. Would you like some of my water? I have plenty," he said, nudging the gourd closer to her and motioning to it. "What are you doing all of the way out of here, anyway?" |

“Of course you wouldn’t know, why would I even ask someone like yo-” Rema began to answer, a heavy dose of venom lingering in her voice over the random passerby’s complete lack of reptile savvy. “-Ooou. That’d just be silly, who knows what those things are in the first place, shells are so stupid, just get a house like anyone else, ya know?” The magic girl quickly turned her words around, taking on a more airy and ditsy tone. While she had managed to play off her bitter side as a playful jab as far as she could tell, he more cutesy demeanor ended up sabotaged anyways, given the smug and self-satisfied grin plastered on her face that came with what she believed was a successful ruse. Luckily, a quick glance at the man’s face was enough to assure her that she would have no problem manipulating him, the anxiousness from talking to a girl on it as clear as the smugness plastered on hers. “Water? For me? That’s so kind of you, mister!” Rema gasped at his offer, covering her mouth for a moment and batting her eyes, probably laying on her feminine charms a little with too thick. “Well, I guess…” She hesitated, slowly reaching for the gourd only to betray her act at the last second by greedily snatching the container and guzzling down it’s contents, excess water cascading from the corners of her mouth only to evaporate instantly in the scorching sand below. “Whew, that really hit the spot, kyayaya~” She laughed, unconcerned with the fact that she handed back the gourd with something like a single sip of water sloshing at the bottom of it. Tilting her head, the magic girl simply laughed at the man’s question. “I could ask you the same question, silly! Kyayaya~” She grinned at him, eye half closed before drawing closer to him. “The real question is how are you going to get us out of here, -?” She tapped at his chest, waiting for not only some strategy he probably didn’t have, but his name despite not telling him her own. |
