The whole situation was slowly devolving into a ruckus. Even as he was trying to escape from the three trackers, the fact remains their weaponry and sadistic nature was a remarkable feat. The sounds of shrieks and moans of pains echoed the area he was in, not to mention the constant use of the big weaponry. The blast was loud, booming through the usually quiet forest and no doubt attracting every predator over, maybe even more giant spider.

Well, whatever it was, Mycroft did not wish to get involve in it. It would work to his advantage. With attention drawn to the front, sneaking in the back or side of it would be much simpler. Of course, he did not expect the way to be fully cleared. Maybe coming across one or two guards was of no surprise, those he can eliminate easily.

As far as he went, no one was there to stop him. It took him a while longer before reaching an underground chamber. His arrival was silent, trying to ensure he does not catch the attention of anyone, or anything for that matter. He already went up against a bear and a giant spider. Who knows what is hidden in this place any longer. The area was dim, barely giving up light that he had to take a moment to adjust his eyes. It was only after a few moments he realized something was here. He could feel the presence of someone around this area, within the dark confines of the place. Whoever it was, all he expected was someone who is a part of the crew here. He instantly reached out for his cane, holding on to the middle of it as he readied himself against any untowardly aggression. No use hiding if there was only one person here.

Morose stayed leaned up against an arch in its shadow. Occasionally he would peek around at the room. His knives appeared in his hands with a flick of the wrist. Slender white fingers clenched the weapons tightly as Morose steeled himself for what he intended to do.

Overhead, a rumble that drowned out some of the fighting outside rocked the island and briefly illuminated the dreary chamber Morose and Mycroft were in. Several moments later another lightning bolt struck, its thunder echoing throughout the ruin and its flash briefly illuminating things otherwise hidden. Then the rain came. Gentle at first and then it poured as thunder and lightning continued. A small stream of water poured in from the ceiling. Morose looked up at it from the corner of his vision. He then waited.

Another flash of light lit up the chamber before leaving the chamber darker than it was before with the sudden light disturbing the night vision of any that looked. In that moment between flashes, Morose leaped from one stone to a pillar to an arch to a supporting structure until nearly at the roof. There, his knives were unleashed. The next flash came, and as the thunder roared a portion of the ceiling collapsed into the chamber, smashing into everything on the way down until splashing mightily into the shallow pool of water. In the ensuing darkness, the sounds of the weather outside became all the more apparent as well as the new sound of rushing water. Another flash revealed the small stream of water that came in from above was now a geyser with a great volume of water rushing into the ruin creating a thick waterfall and a pool of water at the base that was quickly overflowed. Soon the space where Mycroft stood would be covered in water.

The storm ensured his senses was disturbed. Mycroft could not hear anyone within the weather, the rumbling of thunder and rain ensuring any other sound is hidden beneath it. The lightning did, however, provided him with shadows. For those split seconds, he was sure he spotted someone darting through the area. The spy kept his body low, eyeing the area with extreme caution, only to have his senses disturbed again by the thunder and lightning, not to mention the sudden onslaught of water. It unbalanced the man slightly, and he knew he was open to any attack.

With no other choice, he darted to a nearby pillar, choosing to hide behind it to prevent himself from getting suddenly stabbed. He understood his presence was clearly noticed by whoever it was here, and sneaking past this man was not going to help him. It does not help every second he waste here would only be dangerous for the young child.

" Whoever you are, I am giving you one chance to get out of this place. Those men are outside killing your friends, and they will finish the job. They are planning to kill every single pirate here. So get going, or it would be harsh for you."

Mycroft tried to reason with the man, thinking whoever it was here, they have to be part of the pirate kidnappers here. He unsheathed his sword from his cane, readying himself for any reaction from the opposing side.

Morose sat high in the room atop a pillar in the darkness. The occasional flash of light illuminated his form briefly. He looked more like a gargoyle than a boy the way he sat crouched low with his cloak over most of his form. Morose's eyes tracked Mycroft as he moved from his previous location to a new one, splashing in the water with each step to higher ground. The water rose. Mycroft's words did not appear to phase Morose, but it may have been the thunder drowning out some of it. The boy moved.

Half falling, half carefully kicking off pillars, he descended to where Mycroft hid and landed briefly on the opposite side of the pillar Mycroft hid behind. Lightning crashed and thunder roared again. Morose was no longer hidden behind the pillar Mycroft used. He was tucked away in a shadow of the room overlooking where Mycroft stood.

Moments passed and the rain continued to fall as the water rose. Then the grinding/sliding sound of wet stone against stone was audible as the top portion of Mycroft's pillar slid downward at an angle. If Mycroft remained, the stone pillar would slide on top of him with the weight of several tons and a sharp angle as the focal point.

It was during a lull in the storm a few moments later that the sounds of a child wimpering could be heard coming from further into the ruin.

When it was clear his words were meant with silence, Mycroft knew whoever it was based inside here was not looking to stop the fight. Maybe the man was confident with the whole situation of dealing with enemies, or maybe he was sure his friends would be able to defeat the trespassers. Whatever it was, it would not help him. He had to start planning to move away from this place as soon as he could. He needed to help the child, whose cries he could faintly hear from deeper in this hideout. This was not the time to fight.

His mind snapped back from his thoughts when he noticed the sudden movements of the pillar. The darkness hid the subtle movements for a moment, before Mycroft finally noticed the pillar was just about to drop on him. In an instant, he could almost feel the weight of the pillar on him, but a moment later, he managed to roll away to his side, the pillar dropping dangerously close to his left. With his body now soaked and clothes slowing him down, he knew looked around for the hidden enemy. To have broken the pillar such, this foe surely seemed to be on another level than those he met. With no other choice, he threw two smokebombs to his left and right, letting the place become fogged up with smoke as he stayed in place, letting the smoke engulf him eventually. He stayed crouching, feeling the ground or more specifically the waters, feeling the ripples to ready himself for the coming enemy.

No doubt his timing is now being cut short at such a crucial junction.

Morose started to fidget before finally leaving his cover behind. Using the moments between flashes, he leaped and scrambled to stand on a pillar that was buffeted by rain. His cloak wicked and repelled most of the rain, but it did not make the experience of standing up there any less precarious or miserable. Knives out, Morose suddenly swung his blades in a frenzy. Combined with the winds of the storm, his cloak billowed and whipped around him. Morose seemed to be a force of nature, himself, for a moment in the storm as his blades whipped around faster than the average person could perceive.

The rain came down hard and fast upon Mycroft and his smoke clouds. What was under cover before was now being relentlessly pelted by rain that felt like specs of hale. Morose's efforts were deflecting the drops of rain coming within his reach at Mycroft's location to forcefully clear the smoke clouds and kill their obscuring quality. Once Mycroft's general location was discernable, Morose leaped over to another pillar and sliced through it like the one before causing it to slide off its base and fall over on top of where Mycroft was standing. Meanwhile, the water had continued to rise and moving around was becoming difficult at Mycroft's level. Morose stayed high and found another shadowy perch to spectate from.

The fighting outside seemed to have died down with the intensity of the rain.

The sudden force of nature surrounding this place took the agent by surprise. No doubt he was not expecting such a reaction to his actions, which only means it was coming from his opponent. Of course, what he lost in stealth, he gained in direction. The man was no doubt quick, jumping everywhere on top of him as if a spider. But Mycroft managed to discern where specifically he attempted to hide next. Even as another pillar was being dropped on him, he managed to catch a glimpse of the man. He was unlike most of the piartes he came to be familiar with at this place, which begs the question maybe this man was something entirely different. It left so much questions, and so little time to deal with it.

Again, the spy rolled away from the falling debris, barely missing him again. But now he knew which perch the man was hiding, watching his prey. He attempted to look confused, looking around even when he knew where the man was. Even then, his hand wrapped around the handle of his gun, and without warning, aimed immediately at where the man was last seen, high on the ceiling of this hidden place. In less than a second later, the cave brightened as the gun fired, the bullet moving straight towards the hidden foe, knowing this would actually clearly show his location if he was not seen. But the man could not be as fast as a bullet, at least not to his knowledge. And his aim has always been true to him.

The brightness of the flare would give, for a mere second, the sight of who Morose is truly fighting against.

"****"

Morose cursed as the shot lanced through the air at him. He hastily jumped from where he was to a nearby arch. His foot slid and he nearly fell, but his body immediately reacted as necessary to level himself out and kill momentum. On the brink of falling, he stood stockstill with eyes wide and looking back and forth to see if anything else would happen. He did not fall and relaxed somewhat. Then the flare shot exploded in light and Morose slipped on the wet stone and fell from his arch to the stony steps below.

"**** *****...shhhh that hurts"

Morose grumbled, his face wincing as he stood and rubbed tender areas. Just then the steps beneath his feet crumbled away and he dropped into the rising flood waters he had enabled earlier. Sticking to the shadows and debris in the water, he swam stealthily closer to where Mycroft stood. The water's rushing, splashing sounds covered Morose's approach. The boy's face was half submerged as he swam closer, bubbles of irritation rose to the surface was he went. Perhaps feeling spiteful, the youth opted not to directly attack Mycroft and instead destroyed the stones he stood on in an attempt to also drop him into the frigid flood water.

The sound of someone falling into the water was clear indication that Mycroft managed to at least almost hit the enemy. His eyes adjusted to the darkness, he could see there was no one on top of the perch, meaning whoever that was there, has already fallen to the ground. It at least gave him a slight hope that he could continue this mission of his, but even then, he could feel there was someone's presence lurking nearby. He would have hoped that his little trick would ensure the man would stop this fight, but it seems short-lived. The spy had no other choice but to carefully splash around the waters, trying to find this foe of his. It was starting to become a real hassle after all.

In the meantime, he was reloading his gun. It worked well after all, the man was not as fast as a bullet, unlike some rumors that says some people are. It simply means if the man was close enough, all he need to do was give another shot at him. Maybe even just scare him to run away. Whatever it was, he had to be absolutely sure this was the end of it. With the sound of fighting dying down outside, it was clear the girl would not have much time. Whether the trio that was attacking this group or the kidnappers won, it would not make any difference to her safety.

Alas, he failed to noticed the boy coming up to him, and in the moment he finally did, he could feel the ground he stood on give way. It was all too quick, and he was forced to drop on his back, back paddling away from the hole created by this man. Whether he was insane or simply trying to kill the man who almost killed him, Mycroft could not tell. But he managed to escape the gaping hole he created. He managed to pull himself back a distance before standing on even ground again, eyeing his opponent as he aimed his gun to the man, at this distance knowing that he would not be missed.

" Now that we can see each other, tell me where is the girl."

His voice was calm, although he looked ragged more than before. If anything, he still suspected Morose to be part of the kidnappers.

Morose treaded water skillfully enough to remain in place as the waters surged into the large chamber. Morose could have easily allowed the currents to take him if he ducked below the surface of the water, but he remained. The man's words made Morose peer up at him as if getting a good look at him for the first time.

"You don't seem very much like the leader of a band of pirates."

Morose said it plainly but then his face twisted in annoyance as he looked away.

"I can't believe I wasted all this time and nearly got myself killed again on top of it."

The last he grumbled as he swam over to the shallower water and climbed onto the same walkway Mycroft stood. Morose was shorter than Mycroft and considerably younger looking. His wet form making him look more like a child that had just come out of the bath than an infamous pirate. Morose looked annoyed and grumbled under his breath, but did nothing about the gun on him. He simply stayed a healthy distance and led Mycroft in the direction the girl's sobs could be heard from previously.

They left the large room behind and ventured down a tunnel that seemed to have been damaged recently. Squeezing through, they came out in a more well-lit room with furnishings. It looked like the pirates of the island may have used it. In the corner under blankets and shaking like a leaf was the girl, Mabel. She was bound and had the red eyes of someone who had been sobbing.

Mabel

"You here for the reward money of returning her or something else?"

Morose asked without looking at Mycroft. Morose's entire form was hidden beneath the sopping wet cloak except for his face that had his blonde hair plastered to it.

To see the whole situation de-escalating was frankly giving the spy a little reprieve. Not only was he sure this man could have taken him out if given the chance, not to mention the whole situation was him dictating it, everything being done to his liking. Mycroft could understood if he was forced into a position of hardship, but he had no other choice but to play it. He needed to save the girl after all.

Even then, as this man was lowering his guard, so did Mycroft. Clearly, the two of them was placed in a situation that neither wished. They have wasted their time fighting, but if he guessed right, the girl should be safe. There was no more sounds aside from them and sobbings of a young girl, which could only mean one thing for them. The trio that fought either died, or eliminated the guards. Either way, it would only mean they could save the girl now.

" I promised her mother that I would bring her back. The only thing I am after is her. Money and fame is not my target."

Mycroft explained, letting the man lead. Their little scuffle only gave him bruises from jumping around and his whole outfit left damp. Whatever it was, there was no reason for him to be doing this. This man, in technicality, won against him, which only means he deserves to be the one to be sending her back for something.

" Once we get her out, send her home. Seems that you deserve more credit than I do."

Mycroft reasoned, hearing the sobs of the girl. There was no footsteps or any other voice he could descipher. Maybe the whole situation was over as he thought.

As Mycroft suspected and Morose hoped, the situation was resolved. All the pirates in the hideout had been captured or killed by the bounty hunters that came to the island. The storm that rolled in forced a hasty retreat by them and their captives. The storm had since passed and the two who remained to retrieve the girl had no problem freeing her and escorting her off the island. The storm had driven most of the threats on the island below ground, and together, any threats that did reemerge were taken care of.

As the three were making their way back to the girl's home, Morose finally answered Mycroft,

"There are reasons that would make you returning the girl preferable to myself. I have a use for you. I would like you to return the girl for the both of us and claim the reward. You'll then split it with me, taking what you believe to be a fair share for your troubles."

The implications within Morose's words were not clear, but that they were there was not missed. Eventually, the girl was returned, the situation between Mycroft and Morose settled, and the two went their separate ways for the time being. It was hard to say how things would change with time should the two meet again...
