There were many things in this world that Anton La'croix didn't quite understand. Even when you live in a place as diverse and sometimes wild as Dressrosa, the world still holds some mysteries for him. Such as how someone like him was actually able to make it in the marines, despite his wishes? Why did life have to be so cruel to him?

And how could an island covered in eternal smog such as Karaoke Island be home to great artists?

Honestly, it perplexed the young man deeply as he walked through the streets, looking around nervously as he headed towards his destination. This place seemed so dreary, how could anyone be inspired to make good art? But apparently this was the center point of art in the blues, with numerous works being made each day. It was also home to the most temperamental artists, who would turn violent at the drop of a hat over their work. Granted, Anton was used to random violence, having been raised in Dressrosa, but Anton knew to make sure he didn't step on any toes while he was here.

And art was why he was here. There was an exhibition/contest coming up, and Anton had been assigned to act as security. It seemed like a simple assignment, though Anton was still nervous about it. After all, it was his first assignment outside of training, and the people here were volatile. His mind was already coming up with worst case scenarios about what would happen.

Just take it easy Anton. i-I'm sure everything will be fine. Maybe nobody will blow their top and everything will run smoothly...

Yeah...like THAT was going to happen.

Titania brushed the flowers from her hair, her fingers combing through and forcing out the knots and pieces of flora. Her sleeping conscious had somehow remembered about her assignment, one she couldn't be late for. Her instructors did not appreciate her laziness at all, they even threatened to reprimand her. She just shrugged and left, which was how she ended up in the flower bed in the first place.

People stared as the girl stood in the middle of the fenced off garden, she didn't really care at all though. She smudged the dirt off of her cheek and fastened the marine beanie on her head. Yawning, she walked down the beautiful city streets towards the location remembered in her head. The city was quite beautiful, reminding her of the one in her dreams. It was almost picture-esque.

While walking, she stretched out her arms over her head, eyes tearing up somehow. Titania was always tired, regardless of how much she slept. Although, she was fairly surprised that nobody had bothered her rest, they probably thought she was homeless or something. Technically, she was, but since she was actively looking for some kind of crew, she wouldn't be in a year or two, which was the approximate time of her training given to her by her trainer. Although, he was probably being sarcastic and was referencing her laziness.

She had be assigned to guard an art show, to build her interpersonal skills, she'd be working with another person, of course. She knew nothing about the other enlistment, hopefully he wouldn't be too hard to co-operate with. With a sigh, she ran to pick up speed before jumping into the air and gliding towards her location. It would be faster than walking, and she didn't want to be late. People stared at her large ethereal wings, but she ignored them.

Upon seeing the man person she assumed to be the one she'd be guarding with, she smiled and waved.

"You're the marine i'm guarding with, no?"

At the sound of the voice addressing him, Anton let out a small squeak of surprise, spinning around to see who was talking to him. Not exactly the best first impression one could give off, but Anton wasn't exactly in a calm state right now. When was the last time he ever was? He turned to see a small, slender young woman, dressed in a rather regal attire, similar to his own, and, much to his surprise, a large set of wings on her back. Why did she have wings? Did she eat some sort of devil fruit or something?

And she asked about his assignment. Now that Anton thought of it, he was told he'd be working with someone else. Was this girl it?

"O-Oh, yes. Ch-Chief Warrant Officer Anton La'croix, a-at your service." He gave the young woman a formal salute. He wasn't sure of her rank, and thus defaulted to acting like the lesser of the two. Relaxing his posture slightly, he looked over in the direction he was heading. "Th-The contest should be starting soon, and it's close by. W-we should get over there and begin our assignment." He looked over her, wondering how combat ready she was. He figured she must be good at fighting, in order to be in the marines, but Anton couldn't help but feel some small desire to ensure her protection.

He waited for the woman's reply before beginning to head to the competition, seeing the crowd gathering in the distance.

Titania laughed, covering her mouth. She found it funny that she was being saluted when the other man was probably ranked higher than her. It was probably due to her lack of outfit, save for the beanie. Her enlistment officer tried to get her to wear hers, but he gave up after about a week or two of her showing up in her usual outfit. It wasn't that she disliked the uniform, but more that staying in her current was easier, which is why she still wore the tacky marine logo beanie. It was also pretty warm too, not like it was cold or anything, though.

This man was not as boring as the other marines she had seen. For starters, his hair was a nice bright green in the shape of something similar to a bowl of sorts. His eyes were quite round, posessig a rich brown color that appealed to her in a friendly and approachable manner She felt no qualms about approaching him.

"Thank you, Chief Warrent Offcier, La'croix. I'm certain of all possibilities in which you are ranked higher than me. If the show is soon to commence, we must enter henceforth."

The fellow marine made his way through the bright and vivid city streets, towards where Titania assumed the exhibition would be held. Of course, since she was in a crowd, she could feel people bump into, rub, and feel her wings. It was annoying, but she could handle it because she was too tired to really care. Yawning, her wings flapped suddenly and knocked over a man, who laughed and got himself up. She turned around and apologized half-hazardly, one eye squinted.

When they finally came to the place, Titania was pretty impressed. The building was large and monolithic, but still somehow whimsical and fantastic.

"Please, enter before me."

Anton couldn't help but look back at the woman assigned along with him. She still hadn't given her name, nor her actual rank. But Anton wasn't going to question her. She'd tell him when she was ready. He was more curious about those wings of hers. Was she born with them? Did she eat a Devil Fruit? Hopefully he'd find out without having to ask her. It seemed like it would be rude.

Standing outside the building, Anton was a little reluctant to step in. Though some prompting by the other marine eventually got him inside. The place was abundant with activity. Artists and art lovers milling around the place. Numerous pieces of artwork on display. All of them varied and creative. Some of them though only confused Anton. Statues of shapes and figures he couldn't figure out. Paintings that seemed like messes of colour. There was even something that appeared to be made of scrap metal.

"Man...this art is just..." Anton suddenly realized where he was, putting on a forced smile, "L-Lovely! It's very lovely...yeah..." He could feel some eyes on him already. He was supposed to be running security here. No sense in causing a fight. How long would it be before a fight actually broke out? This was a competition after all, so somebody was going to be feeling sore by the end of it.

"Attention patrons. The judging will begin shortly. All contestants please report to the main hall for the competition. I repeat, the judging will begin shortly."

Though it was supposed to be a standard announcement, it caused Anton's heart to race. Here it was. The crucial moment before disaster potentially exploded. "I-I guess we should get into position." Anton said to his 'partner'.

Titania was an obsessed with art, she loved it in any form, be it abstract, modern, or traditional. Even if critics hated a piece, she'd find a way to love it. While her reasons were unknown, she had always had a certain affinity for the arts, and visions of paintings and performances always seem to subtly reappear in her dreams. Sometimes, she'd even get inspiration to make her own pieces, even if they turned out horrible due to her lack of skills in such areas.

Titania glanced over at the metal sculpture, marveling at the smooth and polished bends of grey. Then, her eyes wandered to the abstract art, shapes, and colors defining a single emotion with multiple aspects. For approval or most likely agreement, she glanced over to the marine, only to find him looking at the pieces with forced happiness. She could tell he disliked it, as his words were almost obvious in their distaste. The pink haired marine understood, knowing that abstract art was not enjoyable to most.

Titania briefly wondered how bad the party would get, and if she'd have to defend herself or anything. In all of these scenarios, she hoped none would happen, as she was currently unarmed. However, if necessary, she could probably blind the offender with confetti while the other marine or present people took him out. Currently, she had no weapon, and was struggling to find one that she could use in combination with her devil fruit powers. A regular sword as out of the question, due to the fact they were too heavy and did not benefit her powers in the slightest.

When the announcer instructed the contestants, Titania nodded to the fellow marine. She looked at him curiously and tiredly, before asking her question through a haze.

"If you didn't get my name, i'm Titania. Where do you think we should go?"

Anton nodded as the woman introduced herself as Titania. At her question as to where they should position themselves, the timid marine looked around. What would be the best place? "W-We should position eachother on opposite sides of the main stage. That way, if somebody tries something, at least one of us will be closer to the problem." It only seemed logical after all. After all, the main stage would have the judges, and if anyone had any issues with anyone, it was with the judges.

As they entered the main hall, Anton immediately went over to the stage set up at the back of the room. Numerous pieces of art were on display, those that had made it into the competition. Some of it, Anton approved, others he found just strange. Anton moved over to the right side of the stage, looking over the stage and the crowd. So far so good.

Eventually, the announcer stepped onto the stage, ushering for the crowd to be silent. "Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the annual Karaoke Art Expo! Behind me are the piece of art that made it past the preliminary judging. Our judges will look at these works one at a time, and we shall pic the best of the island!"

A number of the crowd murmured in approval. But Anton could see others were not so thrilled. Apparently there were those that got eliminated early, and were sore about it. Anton would make sure to keep an eye on them.

On the left side of the stage Titania sat with her legs crossed and hanging over. She yawned at the soft music playing in the background. The art displayed on the stage was unknown to her because she really didn't care enough to even check. Perhaps it was a certain vibe a few people were giving off, but it was almost as if she could feel the tension in the crowd. This feeling prevented her from falling asleep completely, but she still lingered at the twilight of half-wakefulness.

Men in the crowd were attempting to discreetly check her out, but she ignored their foolish endeavors. They were not appealing to her in the slightest, so pretending she didn't notice them was the easiest way to prevent and kind of conflict that would otherwise disrupt this fascinating performance of art.

The sudden appearance of an announcer on the stage brought her to be just a bit less sleepy and more aware than before. After having motioned for the crowd to stop their relentless banter, he spoke.

"Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the annual Karaoke Art Expo! Behind me are the piece of art that made it past the preliminary judging. Our judges will look at these works one at a time, and we shall pick the best of the island!"

Once again, since she couldn't be bothered to turn around enough to see the art, the ones he spoke about were unknown to her. However, she could still sense the uneasy vibe coming from the sea of people before her. Unhappily, the crowd murmured. It made Titania uneasy. She could feel something coming.

Anton kept his eye on the crowd, spying particular individuals who appeared disgruntled, and were a possible threat. Meanwhile, the contest continued as the judges went through each of the pieces of art. Anton didn't pay too much attention to it, though he did notice some of the finalists taking a little offence to some criticism from the judges. Thankfully, they kept their tempers in check, but it still worried Anton. Just how many potential powder kegs were in this room? And it was just the two of them to make sure it didn't explode.

Finally, the big moment came. The judges were to decide who was the winning of this competition. Anton knew that if tempers boiled over, it was going to be here. Anton's body tensed, his hand moving towards his sword as he hung on the judge's words. He'd never watched an art contest so intently in his life! Finally, the judges made a decision. The winner was some strange sculptor made out of twisted metal and coloured glass. Anton really didn't understand art.

And then he saw it. A man in the audience threw something towards the stage. A bottle? Anton reacted without thinking, immediately diving onto the stage, bringing up his sword to try and block the projectile. It was only when the bottle smashed against his blade did he then notice the flame of the rag stuck in it.

The man had tried to block a molotov.

Anton screamed out as flames suddenly licked at his body, the young marine jumping to the ground and rolling around to try and put out the flames. In the meantime, the crowd suddenly exploded, as that single attack had set off the tension in the room. Many were turning on eachother, while some were attempting to storm the stage.
