Kintaro was troubled. It had been 5 days since he had arrived at the wonderful island of Awestralia, the Peach Capital of the world. Normally, that’d have been enough time to soak in the sights before he’d high-tail it out of there, yet on that very chilly afternoon, he found himself sitting on a bench in the middle of Shipney, glaring viciously into the crowd.

He, however, was not making a serious face due to his frustrations. His vicious glare came not from internal turmoil but out of a characteristic seriousness as he scanned the crowd for buxom beauties. Like a security officer, he made sure to carefully check every passing by person for his desired traits. He found none, much to his dismay.

“… Dammit. I was wrong to think that the status of peaches as the fruit of fertility would mean this peach island would be filled with pretty onee-sans. Such a fatal error…”

He muttered under his breath, visibly shaking from internally beating himself up.
Eventually though, he let go of his silly regrets and relaxed his vision. He instead made note of the roaring business that permeated throughout the entire area. As expected of the island’s trading capital, every day the streets were filled with advertisements and haggling. Numerous peach related goods filled the stocks of stalls and stores, dying the city in an attractively looking pink. Yet, despite the enthusiasm he originally shared when he arrived, the sight began to sicken him. Peaches, day in and day out, tended to have that effect on the stomach. Well, that’s why he had decided to stay...

Frowning a little, he looked at the eager stalls men selling peach-electronics. They were all a friendly bunch and pleasant to talk to, but that made Kintaro uneasy. They were too smiley and too fervent. They worshipped peaches like gods. They put their beliefs before their profits. And as respectable as that was, it made him sick. The businessmen he knew were nothing like that. They were men with nothing but credit and wit and even less morals. They worshipped nothing and feared only men. And they loved money more than anything in the world.

Everything was just peachy, literally. Peaches were all around Kanon as she made her way around the vendors in Shipney. While she had grown up on an island where their were a lot of cherries, those were strictly for business and they didn't take it to such an extreme. For one, taking about her affinity for cherries here would hurt her in negotiations here but she had no negative bias to other fruit. That was important because she had quite a lot of experience working with a fruit-based product, and she was now surrounded by fruit-based products.

So, Kanon was moving around from place to place trying out the various peach-based products, looking for the best one to buy a lot of in order to sell it some place where peaches weren't the only thing to eat. Talk about a flooded market. That being said, tasting so many peach-based products in such a short time wasn't the best of ideas. Not that she was getting sick of it, but it all staring to taste the same. Not good. After the fiasco she had just come from, the last thing she needed was to have another money making plan fall through. And this time it would be her fault.

This speed bump was slowing her down enough that at this point she was leisurely wandering around the area as she slowly sipped on some peach drink she had picked up some place. It wasn't poorly made but she was still looking for some Peach Wine. That was closer to her area of expertise after all, and she was curious how it stacked up to her family's cherry wine. It would be a great starting point for her counter-offensive against the people who... hostilely took over her family's business. Apples and Oranges. Cherries and Peaches. It was as good a start as any.

OOC: Edited 10/16/2016 to better facilitate the progression of the SL

Kintaro had continued to sit on the bench, observing the passing crowds. He had all but given up hope when he spotted in the corner of his eye a figure that stood out from the rest. A young lady of a petit stature was casually walking around the marketplace. She was wearing an intriguing, not to mention somewhat revealing, two-piece kimono and had an ample bosom in contrast to her somewhat little, frail appearance. These traits all came together to produce a beauty not unlike a fragile doll, if they sold dolls with serious glare faces, which caused Kintaro to simply think in awe, “How cute.”

At the appearance of such a sudden beauty, the self-proclaimed connoisseur of beauty was left with a rather piqued interest and a slacked jaw. In retrospect, it was quite thankful he had not been drinking any peach juice at that moment for there would’ve been an embarrassing pink stain on his shirt. Mentally, he had already skipped most levels of surprise and had already started analyzing the girl’s figure and imagining her in a variety of outfits. Still, Kintaro was not to be left shocked and awed forever; he was a man of action, not thought. The girl was still walking, likely off to visit another vendor, and the perverted fool wasn’t able to let such a rare gal disappear from sight.

He got up from the bench and calmly approached the girl’s location from behind. She wasn’t too far and with a bit of swift feet and skillful maneuvering, he caught up.

“Excuse me, miss.”

He called out to her in a clear voice from behind. However, he did not wait for her to turn around. Instead, he smoothly slid into her field of vision, hoping that his gilded looks would catch her attention. If she were to look back quickly enough, she would noticed his deliberate attempts to catch her attention in the most stylish way he could.

Once close to her, Kintaro once again framed her figure in his eyes. It wasn’t a quick up-down either, like many men would do. It was a like an awkward lingering gaze that lasted an instant more than it should’ve. Close up, her admirable traits were even more stunning, especially those very very distracting breasts of hers… Ah, right, should probably say something.

In his most charismatic voice and with his most sparkling grin, Kintaro greeted the girl-

“Hello there, miss. I couldn’t help but notice your voluptuous chest.”

-only to immediately regret everything 1 second later.

“Ahem. Pardon me.”

He deliberately coughed to draw attention away from his previous sentence. Afterwards, he’d grin at her again as if the previous 5 seconds hadn’t happened at all.

“Hello there, miss. I couldn’t help but notice that an angel was walking around. Are you alone? How about going for some refreshments? I know all the finest establishments in town.”

Which was an absolute lie, he had been here for only 5 days, but who cares.

Kanon stopped as she heard some voice behind her that sounded like someone trying to get her attention. Before she could turn around though the source of it slid in front of her. Instinctively she took a step back away from him to distance herself from him. Anyone so eager to talk to her like this was already very suspicious. After all, it hadn't been that long since she punched some 2-bit thug's face in about 10 times just for trying to get close to her. She wasn't one to let guys like this get to her.

Then he opened his mouth again.

Facepalming she let out a long sigh as he attempted to save from his social blunder, doing so showing off the metal gauntlets she wore for self defense in such a prominence he would have to be looking past them, probably at her “voluptuous chest,” in order to miss them. ”I'm going to say this once: Please leave me alone. A smooth talker you are not. Even without the blunder you are attempting to ignore I could see through your thinly veiled smile from a mile away. You are not the first man to make an eager advance at me given the appealing curvature of my body and I doubt you will be the last. I highly suggest you go after someone your caliber of skills is more suited for, like a rock or a tree. They would be unable to run away at the sheer horror of your lack of charm. As for me, I can leave and intend to do so now. Good day and good luck finding a rock with your preferred amount of cleavage.”

With that, Kanon turned to leave. If he wanted to keep her around he needed to do something to give her an actual reason to talk to her. Whatever he had been doing wasn't going to work.

All while Kanon was repulsed by his advances, Kintaro was all smiles. Even as she backed away and treated him to a choice selection of words, the almost disquieting grin never even budged. It wasn't that he was an expert at keeping his composure either, it was simply that her sharp tongue hadn't really hurt him much. Still, she really did know how to lay down those insults didn't she? How charming! Kintaro found himself a little more enamored than before.

For a second, he eyed her shiny metal gauntlets. He was no expert in weaponry but he was certain that having that implanted into his skull would not be too pleasant. She didn't look particularly intimidating in terms of stature, but as a man who worshiped the beauties of the body, he knew better than to judge by size alone. Better tread carefully...

As Kanon turned away, though, Kintaro bit his lip. The previously composed pervert fumbled for a way to get her to stay.

"Ah, wait, wait. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." He sprung forward a little to catch up and attempted to walk by her side as she was getting away from him. Were she to pick her pace, he most certainly would try to match it, all while keeping that suspicious conman smile. "You're right, that was wrong of me. I know, let me recompense you. Is there anything you want? Food? Information? Someone you want beaten up?."

In a desperate attempt to continue talking to her, Kintaro became prepared to feed her whatever words would work.

"Ah, maybe not that last one though, I don't think that'd work out well. Haha." He laughed despite nothing being funny. "You look like you're not from around here. Surely, there must be something you're looking for. Let this humble servant have the honor of helping you out."

Uggh, that smile, like he was either not listening to her words or he actually liked the fact she was standing there insulting him like that. Either way, it was obvious that when she turned away he was going to follow after her in a desperate attempt to keep the conversation going, which just had the effect of actually starting to make her angry. She checked her anger as she sped up to try to lose him, but he kept up with her.

She came to a stop and turned towards him, grabbing him by the collar and pulling his head down so it was even with hers, glaring at him. ”Strike one. I told you to leave me alone and you didn't listen. If you want to save yourself from an actual strike,” using her other hand she punched the air next to his head. It was obvious that there was some force behind those metal gauntlets, ”Then you will direct me to the best Peach Wine maker on this island. If you really know all the finest vendors on the island, that should be an easy enough task, but I'll warn you now that you don't get three strikes. Two and you're out, and I won't stop striking until that smug grin is off your face.”

Letting go of him she stepped back and dusted her hands off, her expression relaxed as she waited to see what he would do. Whether she successfully scared him off or he took her up on the chance it mattered not unless he could actually lead her to where she wanted. She had a suspicion he was trying to seem more useful to her to get on her good side so she put that to the test. It was better than wandering around aimlessly. ”Now then, either lead the way or get out of mine.”

Just as Kintaro was trying to get on the girl’s good side, she abruptly came to a stop and pulled him real close. Her sharp glare was … actually quite intimidating. Kintaro visibly flinched as her strike nearly nicked him. What surprising force. At the very least, this angelic beauty wasn’t afraid of coming to blows with him, the result of which would likely be hard to classify as a fight due to how absolutely one-sided it would be. Not to mention that he seemed to have only pissed her off even more…

“Okay, maybe, just maybe, I went a little too far…”

Finally, let go, Kintaro would take a few seconds to regain his balance before addressing the girl again.

“Right, peach wine. No problem, if it’s that. Phew, for a second there, I thought you were gonna make me rob a bank for you.” He made a show of giving her a positive thumbs up, though he was no longer wearing that artificial smile. Out of a desire to not anger her anymore, and partially to preserve his health, he had come to the reluctant decision to restrain himself slightly.

“Hmm… if you’re looking for peach wine…” He looked down the street, staring blankly at nothing really as he considered his answer. He DID actually happen to know a good peach wine place but… he wasn’t really acquainted with it due to taste in wine, so taking the girl there would be a bit dubious. Ah, it should be fine, it’s still a respectable establishment. “The best peach wine maker would be a distillery out in the countryside. But, there is a place two or so blocks down with all the big-name, best brands in stock. It’s not too far, follow me if you will.”

Making a casual gesture, he motioned for her to follow. However, after taking a few steps, he quickly turned around and faced her while still backpedalling.

“By the way, I never introduced myself. I’m Moegi Kintaro, at your service.” He’d do a imitation bow to emphasize his point before quickly checking himself to make sure he wasn’t gonna bump into anyone. “By the way… I hope you don’t mind me asking why you’re looking for peach wine. You wouldn’t happen to be a wine sommelier would you? Although, I suppose if you’re an outsider coming here, you’d have to be here for some kind of peach goods. Afterall, it’d be hard to be around all these peaches if you didn’t like them.”

Not even fazed by how potentially dangerous his words could be in their surroundings, Kintaro beamed as he tried to make small talk with the girl as he led her to the wine shop.

”Hmmm... It wouldn't be unheard of for a distillery to make wine, but their main products would have to be just as high quality, although they probably use most of it for brandy... Peach Brandy, now that's a thought...” Kanon muttered to herself as she seemed to make sure what he was saying lined up. He was already on enough of an edge that she had to vet most of what he did to keep him in check.

Still, when he motioned for her to follow behind her she did opt to do so. Sadly he let his tongue go wild and very nearly implied something dangerous in these parts. She needed to react fast in case there was anyone listening in that might get a bit defensive over the island's prized fruit. ”Well of course I'm here for peach goods. This island's peaches are world renown. I've thought about making a journey here for years.” That wasn't entirely untrue. Given her backing, she'd known about the island for a while and while visiting it had been on her mind, it was not nearly as urgent as she was implying.

”As for who I am and why I'm looking for peach wine in particular, I suppose I can tell you that much at least. I'm Kanon, a merchant in search for a product to buy here and sell someplace else.” Not letting her last name slip was probably for the better. Despite the small threat of the ones that had aggressively taken over her family's business, there was also the fact that her name was rather tied to a different fruit. ”I run a small operation, so ferrying more luxury goods like wine is better than trying to get a large, bulk product. High Quality Peach Wine from Awestralia is bound to sell well in the other seas.”

“I see, so you’re basically an independant merchant, huh.” Kintaro whistled, genuinely interested as he listened to her rationale for visiting the island. In his travels he had met many merchants of which could be categorized into two types: those who worked for big companies and were just there to get paid and the wannabe dreamers who didn’t. It was rare to find someone who was willing to work alone while also keeping their feet on the ground. And certainly, Kanon seemed pretty down to earth in her assessments.

“Ferrying peach wine huh… that’s actually quite clever. A high profit-to-mass ratio but easy to store and preserve compared to rare products that require special facilities to maintain, like luxury ingredients. Less likely to be trafficked by border control too, compared to more dubious goods, and nothing vital that would make pirates want to attack. Has quite the brand name to it but easy to obtain if you’re willing to travel. Smart, safe, solid. Huh, I should consider something like that sometime…” He audibly mumbled as he further considered the business implications of Kanon’s plans. His head began to fill with calculations of sales, trade routes, royalties, and such, before he remembered where he was. Ah, how shameful, going off into one’s thoughts while in the presence of a lady. A true sin as a gentleman. The pervert brought his mind back and chuckled a little to show off his embarrassment. “Ahaha, but what do I know. I’m not a merchant or anything. But if someone smart like you is doing it, I’m sure it’s good business. Hahaha.”

Just as Kintaro was playing off his mistake, he came to an abrupt stop, looking to his right. There, a rather large shop stood, in comparison to the flimsy stalls that had populated the more crowded areas of the marketplace. Although only one story stall, it was still of considerable height and width. The main part of the building was built out of peach wood, like so many of the buildings around, while a stone extension jutted out of the back, likely for better insulation. The design on the front of the store was simple: Peach Wine written in big yellow letters above the doorway and a cliche poster advertising the establishment as the best in town. By appearance alone, it looked like nothing special, maybe even below average. Yet, Kintaro stuck his arm out as he motioned to it triumphantly as if it was a grand prize at a coveted poker tournament.

“Oh hey, here it is. The best wine shop in town, ranked by the highest of tastes, me.” Once he introduced the place, he scurried over quickly to pry open the door, without regard for entering. “After you, miss.”

The inside of the shop was a little more decorated than its outside, but still nothing extraordinary. The main area of space was taken up by a few shelves filled with an assortment of wines in a variety of bottles, though there was no clear labeling for what shelf had what kind. Mostly for decoration, the sides of the store were littered with empty barrels, taking up precious wall space for products. At the very back of the store was a simple wooden counter where a middle aged man was sitting looking bored. Noticing the door open, he looked up leisurely. Should Kanon enter she would be greeted with a standard “Hello, how may I help you, miss.”

Kanon raised a eyebrow as he started to mumble about the explanation of her business plan. The fact that he was able to see the benefits of her plan that easily was a bit revealing. He might have a hard time rubbing his two brain cells together when he first sees a pretty woman, but they were able to start a fire none the less, or however that metaphor worked. She didn't make any audible indications of her thoughts though. It was better to have him continue to think she thought little of him. He would work harder for her approval that way.

Abruptly they got to a place he was looking for and Kintaro ran to open the door for her. Kanon nodded at him and then walked into the building, looking around as the person that was probably the owner greeted her. ”Give me a moment and I'll see if can help me,” She said, going over to the shelves and looking at them. Every so often she would grab a bottle off of the shelf and take a look at it, handling them very carefully in her gauntleted hands. It was obvious she was a bit used to not breaking objects with them, or at least not breaking wine bottles. After looking at a few bottles and putting them back she walked over to the counter.

”So, where is the good stuff?” She said, staring at him with utmost seriousness, one of her gauntleted hands on the counter in front of her as a show of confidence. ”I can tell without even opening the bottles that what you've got up here isn't the best part of your stock. If it is then you can relax, it's not you that is going to feel the bite one of these gauntlets. Regardless, it's a common tactic to avoid selling your best stuff to random customers. That's how you can help me.”

Surprisingly, Kanon entered the shop without quarrel, something that Kintaro had not in fact been expecting out of her. Even more to his surprise, though, was her attitude upon entering the store. She would ask for a moment and begin to scan the shelves, occasionally taking a bottle to examine. Peeping his head past the door he was randomly still holding open, the pervert watched with a troubled expression.

“Ah, that kind of response is… It’s not really rude or anything, and it does exude with her confidence in her critical examination ability but… that kind of attitude will put the shopkeep in a difficult position, ya know. He can’t do anything to help since you’re insisting on looking at the stuff yourself, but he can’t relax since you’ve asked him to wait on you. Ah, retail sure is hard.”

Kintaro would grimly think while watching the scene unfold before him. He had to admit though that Kanon’s serious attitude as she carefully examined bottles with her high-chance-of-damage gauntlets.

Once she was done, she walked over to the counter where she expressed her desires to she the shop’s best goods with the kind of tone that made Kintaro swoon. However, in doing so she’d insinuate a certain someone being on the receiving end of her handmade knuckle sandwich, and a little chill ran through the boy’s shoulders.

“For the record, and my continued protection, I’d like to state that I only promised to bring you to the best place in town, saying nothing about the quality in comparison to your standards.” He’d quickly chime in once she was done speaking, this time actually coming into the shop fully rather than just poking in his head. After stepping in, he’d make a greeting-esque hand gesture towards the shopkeep.

“Hey, sir. Mind doing me a favor and grabbing what she’s looking for?” He’s ask casually, approaching the counter as he spoke.

“Geh. Moegi, huh? Well, I was planning to do so anyways. I never turn away a serious customer. Very well, wait right here, miss.” The shopkeep would slightly sigh before ducking back past a door behind the counter to where the storage was. In the meantime, Kintaro got up to the counter and decided to make some quick small talk while they waited.

So, you can tell how good a wine is without opening the bottle? That’s impressive. You must come from a rather specialized background to be that good. I don’t suppose your parents were wine experts? Haha. ” Laughing like an overly friendly uncle, he’d take a light jab to see if she’d bite and talk about her background. Not that he really cared that much, just somewhat curious what would let her gain such talents.

Eventually, the salesman returned, cradling gently in his hands a rather larger bottle of wine. Rather than the more flamboyant packaging of the previous bottles, this one was rather simply labeled, consisting of nothing but a logo of a peach and no brand name. He’d place the bottle on the counter with the utmost care.

“Here, you go, the best of the best. And before you ask, no, I’m not opening the bottle for you. One of these can easily go for 25,000 beri.”

The displeasure was unmissable on Kanon's face as Kintaro began to talk and joined her at the counter. While the store she found wasn't the worst of places it's worth had yet to be fully assessed and he was already trying to worm his way into a lack of punishment if this place wasn't what he was suppose to direct her towards. Still, there was no reason for her to lash out at him at the moment so it didn't take long for her to relax a bit more. He was at least proving to be a potentially useful idiot.

Although she took mental note of the fact that the store owner knew him already. That could be a good or a bad thing.

Nodding as the owner went back to get the good stuff, she turned to Kintaro as he asked about her skill. ”I didn't need to open the bottle because what was happening was obvious, albeit not a terrible business tactic,” She began, starting to explain a reason why she was able to do so that didn't imply any great amount of wine skill as he had been inquiring about. ”As I said, this means that best stuff will only go to those that have the knowledge to look for it. A busy trading port like this is bound to have a fair share of travelers wanting to take some kind of Peach-based souvenir and wine is a good choice if you want something expensive that actually has a use. The wine on those shelves could very well be better than I'm expecting, but it's obvious that what's up there is to sell off what's not top tier to people what have no way of knowing they aren't getting the best.”

It was about then that the owner brought out a larger, more plain bottle and showed it to her. Kanon looked at it but didn't dare touch it, gauntlets or not. She seemed to be in thought for a moment about what to do before reaching into her kimono and pulling out a stack of Beli and holding it in front of the shopkeep. ”25,000 Beli. Open it.”

It was rather clear that Kanon was not pleased when Kintaro popped out of the door’s cover and joined her. He, however, chose not to think too much about it as he was not entirely sure the reason for this, whether it lie in his actions or words. His attitude remained the same as she explained her rationale behind asking for the best wine. Attentive, but casual, and refraining from deep thought. A few immediate low-hanging questions birthed from his brain but he withheld from asking, out of consideration to not force the girl into starting a lecture.

Once the store owner came back with the wine, Kintaro observed the girl merchant’s moves carefully. A part of him was rather curious on how she’d go about examining this one. Even then, he was somewhat taken aback when she pulled out her stack of beli.

“A bold move.” His mind filled with surprise and approval for her action. “And it’s not like she’s being frivolous with her money either. Careful rational deliberation and the certainty to act upon it… I think I’m falling in love. Hehe.”

On the other hand, the wineseller remained silent, gazing at the stack of money for a bit before nodding, as if something had been resolved in his mind. Without a word or even taking the money yet, he reached beneath the counter and pulled out two items: a small knife, which resembled a letter opener more than a blade, and a corkscrew. With practiced gentility, he took the wine bottle and supported it with one hand while the other placed the knife under the lip of the bottle. Slowly, the storeowner turned the bottle with the knife remaining still, cutting through the foil. Once finished, he removed the top half of the foil, leaving the bottom half on the bottle. A perfectly straight line where the foil was cut showed the man’s mastery. He proceeded to use the corkscrew in much the same fashion, taking out the cork with minimal movement.

Immediately upon opening, a slightly sweet aroma wafted from the bottle opening. Kintaro allowed the fragrance to enter his nostrils, composing himself to best measure the smell. Undoubtedly, the aroma was that of peaches but it brought to his mind images of mountain dew and sunshine. He wasn’t entirely sure if he liked that.

The storeowner, upon placing down the corkscrew, pulled two wine glasses from the seemingly magical counter and placed them on the countertop.

“Would you like me to pour a glass out for you?”

If Kanon were to say yes, he’d oblige and pour out the white, slightly yellow-pinkish beverage into one of the glasses, with steady hands. Watching the spectacle, Kintaro could not help himself from asking.

“So, what do you think?”

Kanon nodded after the shop keeper asked if she wanted a glass. As he poured the glass for her, she slowly pulled off the gauntlet on her right arm and set it off to the side. Reaching out she grabbed the wine glass and swirled it a bit in the glass before smelling it. ”While I'm not a sommelier, I can at least tell this was worth the money I put down to try it,”

After swirling it around a bit more, she took a sip. Afterwards she set the glass down for a moment and sat there in silence, in thought. After a bit, she nodded, ”Ok then, how many bottles of this do you have?” Once again she seemed quite serious in her asking. ”I can only carry a few bottles with me, so if you don't have more than a few that's fine. As long as I have a few of the expensive, top quality bottles for contrast I can pick up some of the ones out front to run a similar system to this store. No doubt I will come across quite a few people with no wine sense that just want a bottle that they think is good to go off on their way.”

Kanon grabbed the glass and took another sip, ”Thank you, good sir. I will remember this place for further business and you've managed to free this man of the fate of a concave face. If you would be so kind as to recork that bottle you've opened I will keep take it with me.”

She turned to look at Kintaro, ”Although do not use your new found safety as a reason to annoy me further. You have only been saved from past threats, not from future ones. And don't act like you haven't been leering at me while I've been sitting here. I've been paying attention.”

Both the shop owner and Kintaro smiled when Kanon gave a positive assessment of the wine, though one of them for a different reason for another. The former would bring his hand to his chin when the girl inquired about his stock, as he’d run a few quick calculations in his head.

“Let’s see… I have maybe half a dozen in the back, and maybe a box or so of similar wines but cheaper, of course. I can’t sell you all of the best stuff I have though. I’m sure you understand why.” He rub his not-actually scruffy chin as his memories came to him. After a bit more thinking, he lowered his hand onto the table and an equally serious glint filled his eyes.

“If you’d like, I could sell you some of the cheaper stuff by the barrel. No fancy packaging but you’d be saving through bulk costs. A significant percentage in fact. If you’re looking for more of the high quality wine, you’d best be headed to the farm and negotiate with them directly. I can tell you’re running a business so it’d probably be best to cut the middle man, if you’re looking for some long term proposal. Though, as said middle man, I probably shouldn’t be telling you this.” His tone carried a strange ethos to it. It was clear he was doing business but it was also clear that he giving her actual advice.

That said, he could only crack a half smile at the girl’s strange way of thanking him. Kintaro on the other hand made a show of being ecstatic about his mistakes being absolved.

“Yes!” He pumped his fist in an exaggerated manner. Which was soon followed by Kanon’s clear warning.

“Dammit!” He dropped to a knee in much the same dramatic manner. The shopkeep would watch the dramatic scene with a questionable look, mostly due to the strange back and forth the two seemed to have.

“Right, I’ll go bring out the stuff from the back then. The good stuff you wanted and some more cheap stuff for you to choose from if you’d like.” And he’d duck back into the storeroom, leaving the two alone. Once he was gone, Kintaro would rise to his feet with a goofy smile, showing that he wasn’t taking things very seriously. He’d address Kanon in a rather jovial tone.

“Now, now, don’t you think leer is a bit too negative. Think of it more like standing in awe of your greatness, just with more mental criticism involved.” He’d wink as if he said something clever. “Besides, thanks to my supposed leering I got to see some of your good qualities, which have inspired quite the admiration within me. Look, as recompense, how about this:”

His goofy smile swiftly changed into a less cartoonish one. It couldn’t really be called a grin nor a smirk, but it exuded confidence.

“If you’d like to make a bit of extra money, I have a business offer I think you’d be suited for.” His voice was somewhat serious for once, but he was still nonchalant all the way through. He spoke as if he was trading children’s trading cards with a friend. “It’s super simple and something few can do. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what it is, unless you accept. Though, I guess that trait in itself reveals a lot about what kind of job it is.”
