He supposed not everyone had heard of roller coasters and the such, seeing as not every island could manage to fit in a faire ground, and it wasn’t very often that you came across an island with one there permanently. But, if Amy had been to this place before, he would have expected her to have heard of one, just from other people if not there already being one. However, as Jack explained it to her, she seemed to go into a deep state of thought, before a while later coming back to them with the fact there was one about. Surely that would be a huge attraction here, how could she have not heard of it? “Let’s go!” As the doctor spoke, he felt a familiar hold on his arm, and suddenly he was running along with the girl. The bath had helped, but he was still tired from the earlier exercise, so he’d been sort of hoping they’d walk instead of run. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, and so he had to push his legs harder than usual, to stay by her side and to not be an inconvenience. He was sure Jack was struggling too, especially seeing as he had to keep an eye on them as well as the crowd, which was just one more job than he personally had. Eventually they found their way to the base of a tall tower, and stood on a decent sized wooden platform as Amy pulled a piece of rope, causing a bell to sound above them. It was a weird contraption he had to say, and he wasn’t seeing any cart to sit in to ride around in, which was kind of weird. There were no doors, and he sort of doubted that the inside of the tower was ideal for going down, so he soon began to question what exactly he’d gotten himself into. When the platform finally began rising into the air, Brycen was a little surprised. Even though he’d worked out what was coming, he still didn’t feel particularly safe. Almost losing his footing, he staggered a little, getting a little too close to the edge for his liking, and quickly moving back towards the more central part of this. Sure, he was interested in the heights, but he didn’t trust this weird contraption with his life. Once they got to the top however, he dared to go closer to the side, peering over to see what was going on below. His eyes widened a bit, for although he felt scared, he was also kind of excited by the whole thing. Seeing all the tiny people below, it was kind of cool. He began to imagine all the cool hero stuff he could do if he had the ability to look over people like this, for example swoop in and stop a crime in an alley, out of nowhere. “Air spirit?” The doctor turned back towards the group, noticing that there was now a man poking his eyes through a little gap in the door, which soon after opened to introduce yet another odd looking man. Trying to ignore the numerous arms attached to the slightly more human creature than half the others, he stepped in, passing by Jack, who soon after shut the door. It was warmer in here, and kind of cosy, excluding the smell of fish and the fact that the man in front of them was a little bit odd, not that he was deemed odd around these parts. Deciding it best to simply wait around for their roller coaster ride, he looked around the room, taking in everything he could, before he felt a gust of cool breeze, and once again the door was open to the cool breeze. From here he could see the fireworks a lot closer up, and so carefully stepped towards the door, holding on to anything he could on the walls, as he peered out and stared at the bright lights filling the air. Suddenly though, he felt a rush of wind besides him as something flew outside. He blinked, and then turned, as if to ask everyone what had just happened, only to notice someone was missing. His mouth agape, he turned back, suddenly panicking that Amy had just thrown herself to her death for some reason. Why had she jumped? In the back of his head, he’d heard her, but… What? He stepped ever closer to the edge, before a familiar voice tuned in behind him, and then shoved him hard in his back. And so, in the least manly way possible, Brycen screamed, as he flopped out of the doorway and landed heavily on the back of something soft… Wait… What? He wasn’t falling to his death? Slowly he opened his eyes, only to find that he was on the back of… Something… White and fluffy? Up ahead, he could see that Amy was sat, and so he moved forwards a little bit, shuffling awkwardly in order to prevent himself from sliding off either side. There weren’t any saddles or buckles for him to hold himself in, so getting close to the fox girl was probably his best option, so that if she slipped, or he slipped, they could help one another. As he moved forwards, he heard a thud behind him, noticing Jack land uncomfortably on the back of… Whatever this was. Looking forwards towards Amy again, Brycen finally noticed the being which was looking back at them. Was that… A chill ran up his spine as it set in that he was in fact sat on the back of a massive fluffy snake, or dragon for short. His words wouldn’t formulate, and all he could do was touch the fur coat of the creatures back in awe, staring at it, and eventually grabbing hold when it finally set off. He shouted in surprise, but didn’t lose balance. Despite the speed it moved at, it was rather elegant, and didn’t seem like it was about to knock them off at any moment. How hadn’t he noticed something like this flying above beforehand, and was it actually real? His heart was practically in his throat, beating a mile a minute as he dared to look down, catching his breath once again at the view. "Air spirit my arse, this is a dragon! You people are crazy!" |

"YOU CRAZED LANDLUBBER! ARE YE TRYIN' TA KILL ME?!" Jack screamed as he hung on for dear life to the soft white fur of the dragon that he, Brycen and Amy were now riding on. The pirate cried bloody murder as his heart raced as mile a minute, higher and higher they went, soaring far above the town, the light of the continual fireworks shining against them and lighting of the night sky. The man didn't dare to look down, he knew that the moment he did his heart would probably want to just crumble into a million pieces at seeing how high up they were. Under normal circumstanced, the pirate probably wouldn't have paid much thought to being so high up, but clinging on to dear life to a creature which by all rights shouldn't exist made that an incredibly hard endeavor. The win was blasting against his face, his red nosed mask being the only protection from the onslaught. The pirate managed to look up an see Amy excitedly sitting atop the dragon's head, holding onto its horns and guiding it almost- that woman, she was going to be the death of them all! Still, the purple haired fox woman seemed to be far too excited to care about the fact that Jack was practically having a heart attack at the moment. The blond pirate tried to yell for her to slow the beast down, but his voice was drowned out by the wind and speed at which the dragon flew. Finally, the beast leveled out somewhat, slowing down its incessant curling motions as its serpentine body grew more steady. Amy laughed and looked back at the two men riding with her, "Isn't this great?" she asked with such enthusiasm that Jack could tell without much thought that she was smiling. The pirate, still in shock about what was now going on- a recurring theme for this night- simply sat there, mouth agape, as he straddled the large white dragon that was now cruising pleasantly through the night sky. "This-This can't be real, I'm dreaming" Jack said trying to resolve himself to that end, but upon pinching himself to try and test his method, found himself without much luck. The pirate looked to Brycen, "Please tell me you have something smart and reassuring to say about all of this..." the man practically pleaded as for what felt like the umpteenth time that night, everything he thought he knew was flipped on its head. The blond rubbed his hand over the white fur of the dragon, trying to grasp his situation and the fact that the stories he had been told about as a young boy on Greensland were actually somehow true. Jack saw Amy whisper something into the dragon's ear, causing it to start to pick up speed again, "No please, not agaaaaaaaa-" but Jack's pleading was to no avail as the white beast began to descend with a mighty roar. The serpentine creature soared through the night air. Jack had learned somewhat from his previous mistake though, and grabbed onto the creature's fur while leaning forwards slightly, allowing him to hold on for dear life at least a little better. Through his mask the man saw the scenery change around him. As the dragon sped along, the man could see the massive forest which he and Brycen had ended up in earlier that evening, including the river they had traveled along. Then, they went farther, and farther beyond. Leaving the forest behind and soaring over vast tracks of green and open farmland- complete with small houses and villages sprinkled here and there. From his perch on the dragon's back, Jack could see small-scale celebrations and festivals like the ones back at the Capital, including mini fireworks here and there. Even still, the group went further still, leaving the green farmland behind and coming before what looked like a large mountain range. With ice capped peaks, small temples or towns of sorts sprinkled along the mountain range, Jack was taken once more by the peculiar and strange world he and Brycen had found. How far did this island go for? Could they maybe just fly all the way back to Cactus Island on this thing? Where were they going? The dragon seemed to slow down again though as it reached the peak of what looked like the tallest mountain of this range they had ended up in. Jack could hear Amy sigh a bit as she looked out over everything from the top of the world, "I wish I could see it all, every mountain, every sea- all of it" she said, a bit somber about the matter. Jack, now feeling a bit more comfortable atop the back of the white creature, tried to talk while keeping his balance. "I-I'm sure you will lassie, why, freedom is the only thing that should matter in this world after all!" Jack said, occasionally looking down at the long drop beneath him through subliminal fear. Amy looked back at the two men, remaining silent, but tilting her head slightly in a confused manner, "Aye, why, I'm sure Brycen'll be able to tell ye, the whole point'a livin' is to be able to explore and make the most of what time you have!" Jack said before finishing his impromptu motivational speech with a hearty, "Zehahahaha" which ended sounding a little feeble as he had to clutch tightly on the back of the dragon to keep himself fro having another panic attack. Amy seemed to nonverbally frown though, turning her gaze to Brycen. Before she spoke though, the woman gripped her head suddenly, rocking forwards a bit, "Ack!" she yelped, causing Jack to turn his attention back to the fox woman. The captain remained silent as the woman spoke, "My head- why does it hurt so much?" she asked before continuing, "Time... What time I have..." she whispered to herself before once more looking to Brycen. Jack stayed silent throughout the sudden outburst, he had said his share, what would Doc boy say now? "What do you think it means to be Free?..... Brycen?..." the woman asked, before falling silent again and drooping forwards slightly. As Brycen would give his answer, Jack would watch the fox woman become more and more tired and almost distant looking, to the point where it seemed as though the tiniest wind would blow her off the dragon's back. Once the man had finished speaking though, Jack would intervene, "Hey there lass, you're looking as sick as a sea cucumber, why don't we set ye down on some solid ground for a bit?" Jack reccomended with a small smile. Amy didn't respond, her gaze was fixed on the moon above them. Still, almost as if on command, the dragon slowly began to descend down to the snowy mountian top where there was a moderately large flat area for them to land on. Jack slid off the back of the creature and walked over to where Amy sat, the latter of whom still seemed distant all of a sudden, only muttering to herself about, "Time..." and nothing else. Jack looked to Brycen, wondering if the doctor knew what was plauging Amy's mind and if it was some sort of physical ailment. Regardless, the man was pleased to be back on solid ground again, even though his guide was currently in a somewhat concerning trance. |

Flying was scary. Heights were scary. Dragons were scary. Had he previously wanted to climb a mountain or something sometime? No, what are you on about, are you crazy? Brycen was of course, the type of man that liked to keep his feet on something solid, and didn’t like rising or falling too much. Obviously, right? Unfortunately for him, as he tried to go back on his previous wishes, their sky serpent continued to soar through the skies, gaining altitude and speed as they kind of just shuffled through the sky. It was weird watching the creature move, but it was even weird still when he noticed the ground below them growing smaller and smaller. If normal health and safety saw this, they’d have a heart attack, and then probably fall to their deaths. “Gahaha!” A mix of fear and entertainment leapt from the panicked doctor’s mouth, as he heard Jack screaming from his life. A small, sadistic part of him was outright enjoying his friend’s discomfort, despite being in the same boat as him. It was a massive shame that it wasn’t literally, as right now he’d have trusted a flying airship more than this dragon thingy, even if it had a statue of Cream plastered across the front of it, practically screaming “don’t trust this ship” on it. His hands dug deeper into the fur type stuff covering the creature, holding on as tight as he could whilst being aware of harming the creature, knowing that if he pulled at it too much, he’d probably get thrown off mid-air. And so the trio flew through the skies, with all of them in a mixture of moods. Up front, Amy was having the time of her life, which Brycen was sure he could have helped her with if they’d have found somewhere to themselves and… ANYWAY. Behind him, he could hear Jack almost crying in fear, which was a reasonable and understandable reaction. In the middle, the doctor was having mixed feelings, both enjoying his ride and fearing for his life, making him feel more and more like baby bear, getting conned out of his porridge by that a-hole Goldilocks. “Define smart!” He attempted to turn to look at the man, before almost screaming and quickly turning back to the front, holding on a little tighter and deciding until they were moving a little slower than this, despite having slowed down, he wouldn’t attempt that again. Leaning down a little to steady himself after that adrenaline ride, he actually dared to properly look below them, making sure that his whole body was wrapped around the dragon as firmly as possible. Below them he could make out countless trees, and winding lots of water, with the town they’d been in, in the distance. He could hardly hear the booming of the fireworks anymore, and he certainly couldn’t hear the murmur of people all around. Still not looking around, he couldn’t make out any of the fireworks though, only hearing them. It was a little bit of a shame, but he wasn’t about to throw his life away to look at bright colours in the sky, especially when he’d already been doing that earlier when he got a moment to himself. Focusing on Amy, and wondering how she wasn’t bothered by any of this, he began to pick up on the fact that she was actually talking to the dragon they were riding. Since when could mystical fox ladies talk to dragons? Actually, thinking about it, that was a stupid question, seeing as the real question should have been: Since when were there dragons and fox ladies? And then, as if by magic, they began descending again, which caused him to scream out in fear as the wind began whipping at his ears, roaring past as he felt the g-force hit him. He could hardly breathe, and it was almost impossible to hang on, yet somehow he managed to keep hold as the ground beneath them shifted over and over again. From more forest, to farmland and fields, to mountainous ranges, it seemed this dragon did it all. All the doctor could do however, was shout in fear, and hold on to the dragon. He’d been hoping that Amy would get scared and cuddle up to him, but in the end it sort of worked the opposite, and they weren’t even able to sit close for it to be worth. Finally though, they stopped at the top of one particular mountain, seemingly taller than the rest of them. With their movement stopped, the doctor came to realise just how cold he was, and wrapped his arms around himself, noticing the air coming from his mouth in little clouds. “Exploring is pretty good. I mean… I’m no hat wearing, coat wearing, compass… wearing… I’m no explorer, but it’s still pretty fun” He was truly a master of words. As he sat there trying to think up more ways in which he could talk about all of that sort of thing, and realising he’d gone off topic, he noticed Amy asking him what it meant to be free. A truly weird question, although if she had headaches, oh that was kind of weird. He shrugged that off and opened his mouth to speak, pausing for a moment for continuing. “Freedom is just kind of… Doing what you feel is right, and following your instinct, without anybody looming over you telling you what to do. And I mean… Sure the marines kind of do that to pirates but I mean, we’re still free, assuming we avoid them.” He sighed a little bit, fully aware that they actually now needed to do that, after being framed for the issue on Desertia, and then fighting a marine out at sea. Whoops. A bit more comfortable with their dragon companion, he shuffled forwards a little bit towards the apparently sick woman, who seemed to only want to look up at the sky. Suddenly they began descending, soon reaching some flat land that they could hop off onto. Almost instantly, Brycen did just this, kicking his legs out and stretching, his heartrate finally calming down, as he looked towards Amy. “Hey, you ok there?” Reluctantly, he hopped back up onto the creature, leaning in towards the fox eared girl, suddenly rather worried. She’d seemed so excited, yet now was distracted by… Time apparently. He waved his hand in front of her face, trying to get some sort of response, watching to see if she noticed at all. If she didn’t, he proceeded to put a hand on her shoulder, shake her slightly, and then move her eyelids around a little to check if there was something with her eyes. If she did react, he’d react accordingly. |

Jack walked around the mountaintop a bit, never straying too far from Amy or Brycen, and most importantly from the dragon- that thing was their ticket off this rock and Jack was not about to go walking all the way back to the festival because his two compadres ditched him to go do whatever it is that those purple haired people do. The pirate scratched his chin as he watched a pair of strange white rabbits hop by, seemingly letting the exchanges between Brycen and Amy float to the back of his attention for once. The strange little creatures reminded Jack eeriely of the attack rabbit that the crew had faced back on the SS Rubber Ducky, yet, the creatures he saw now seemed more benign than anything and, strangely enough, seemed to leave a trail of snow as they hopped form place to place. "Snow spirits, how droll" the man said to himself, before realizing he was starting to think like some of the locals around this place- next thing he knew he might as well call Cream a lust spirit or something, this place was getting to him... Speaking of that, weren't he and Brycen trying to find a way home? That Libra guy was right after all, there was only so much hours of nightime left before the dawn came. As Amy began to stir from her trance, Jack returned his attention to the fox woman. She rubbed the side of her head and whispered to herself loud enough for the two to hear, "Gods why can't I remember?" she went before shaking her head in frustration. Jack frowned a bit, was there really something bugging her that badly? The three of them had been flying on a dragon of all things a few moments ago, and right then she seemed to have been awfully happy! "Pft, Women" Jack muttered to himself, waiting for Amy's confusing bipolar disorder to break, sooner rather than later ideally. Amy paid the blond no mind though and instead looked back to Brycen, who asked if the former woman was alright. Amy suddenly snapped at that though, "I don't need your sappy crap, butthead!" she replied curtly before sitting up straight as if she herself were shocked in speaking in such a manner, "I-I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me, maybe if I just walked a bit I might..." she said, sliding off the back of the dragon and onto the snowy ground. Jack's eyesbrows were certainly raised by now, sure he could have pegged Amy as a bit extreme in her two sphere of attitude of either happy and excited or cold and distant- but never angry, at least, not until now that is. The man shrugged the thought off though as Amy stumbled through the snow a bit, something still clearly on her mind although it was impossible to tell just what that was. Jack shot a glance over to Brycen before turning and looking out over the world below him, he could see as far as the eye could possibly see, far off in the distance he could make out a single light shining against the massive forest, The Forbidden Palace no doubt. Amy now looked out over the wide open yonder too, "Oh- I nearly forgot!" she said, her mood shifting upwards again as a snippet of her prior energy appeared once more. "I brought you two here because of the view!-and it's almost midnight!" the woman said excitedly. Jack raised an eyebrow at that, he wasn't certain what sort of weird timekeeping system they had here, but he and Brycen had already been drinking well past midnight when they came here- had they been transported through time as well as space? The thought was too big for Jack to comprehend, so he let it slide, for now... "Oh yeah, that's right, I nearly forgot- we're supposed to take these masks off or something then, right?" Jack asked, having nearly forgotten the purpose for wearing his rednosed mask this whole time. Amy nodded, before looking out over the world below again, "I was born in these mountains, I remember that every year, at midnight, the Emperor back at the capital would light a firework so massive and bright that you could see it from leagues away" Amy said, her voice seemingly wandering a bit as she spoke. Jack let out a small, "Hrmph, I don't know about any firework that size, I'll see it when I believe it methinks" the man said with a slight chuckle before looking back out... It really was beautiful here. The night sky in particular took his breath away. Never in his wildest dreams had he seen such beautiful lights gleaming above him. Not when he was living back on the usually quiet townstreets of Greenslands Hollow, not when he was studying celestial navigation with Avery, and not when he was simply steering the Corey In the House on a cold sea stricken night. He could see stars shining all above him, a miasma hazing in the clouds, all sorts of star signs, and above all else: he could see the moon. It shined brighter than anything else in the night sky. It was larger than Jack seemed to remember it being, its cool rays illuminating the world with a gentle hue. The more he thought about it, the more he wished he could see a sky like this every night- and if he might ever see one again... As Jack thought that thought though, he noticed over in the horizon, a bright light streaking upwards high into the sky. "Oh, there it is!" Amy hurriedly exclaimed as she grabbed the two men's hands and clutched them with surprising force. "This is it! The end of the year!- quick, think! Think of what you want to be in the coming age and what you want to do! Oh, and close your eyes until you hear the BOOM!" the woman said before falling silent. Jack sighed before closing his eyes. It had been quite an eventful year, hadn't it? He had trained under his tutor until he was wrongfully killed, got caught up in a treasure hunt that escalated into a doomsday plot which he and his fledging crew inadvetently prevented, and on top of it all, managed to keep said crew intact for the most part while adding on a new fishwoman. It was an... interesting year... to say the least. What did the man want though for the year to come? The more Jack thought about it, the more he seemed to draw a blank, he just didn't know what it was he wanted to accomplish now. Sure he had made it to the Grand Line, and sure he had managed to keep a crew together, but now what? Paradise was so long and dangerous, and there was so much to worry about- pirates, marines, bounty hunters, to name a few. The more that Jack thought about it though, after reaching this impass, the more he felt somewhat happy in a weird way. As much as he disliked not having a plan, he sort of relished it- after all, was he not the captain of the Maelstrom Pirates? Was it not this crew's goal to be as free and adventurous as possible? A small smile crept up the man's lips as he thought that. So it was true then, the best plan would be to not have a plan. 'BOOM' Jack opened his eyes with a new air of confidence as he looked at the supernova'esq firework exploding in the night's sky. It was so far away, yet so close at the same time. It was truly a sight unlike anything he had seen in this madhouse of a wonderland. The pirate grinned a bit as he took in the sight, the exploding lightshow which, much as Amy described, seemed to light up the night sky and make it day for a few moments. As the firework seemed to continue to explode for a solid minute or so, Amy spoke, "Right... Are you ready to take off your masks? I hope you resolved to do something good for the new year!" the woman said, causing JAck to give a small smile, "Aye, and we've got a good one to start off on! Having you join this here crew!" he said with a swift, "Zehaha" before falling silent. "Right, you take yours off first then" Amy commanded, to which James promptly complied, reaching back and peeling the rednosed mask off of his head and revealing the normal eye-patched face of Jack Rackham once more. "Unfortunately, no resolution will let me get rid of this ugly mug" he said with a chuckle as he stroked his slightly cold nose. Amy laughed a bit before looking to Brycen, "Heh, and now you..." she would ask, waiting for the purple haired man to take off his wolf mask before she addressed them any further. Jack watched as Amy stood in front of the two men, the exploding mega-fireworks behind her lighting up the night sky. The woman hesitated for a moment as she realized it was her turn to take off her mask, "Come on now lassie we took off ours, its only fair you do the same" he said with a chuckle. Amy looked at the one eyes pirate before looking back to Brycen and holding her gaze on him for a moment or two. Silently, she reached back behind her head and began fiddling with what Jack assumed were some strings holding her mask up. Sure enough the sound of a soft 'click' confirmed his thesis. The woman gently and oh so slowly, grabbed her white fox mask and began pulling it off. However, it became apparent to Jack that, similar to his rednosed mask, Amy's mask had fake purple hair attached to it- something which the blond hadn't noticed until now. The man watched as the surprisingly nervous looking figure of Amy silently pulled her mask off and let it fall forwards, falling onto the powder snow. Her purple hair gave way to a bundle of fiery red. Her eyes were a crimson maelstrom which were only mached by said hair and red lips. Jack gave a small smile as he saw the real Amaterasu reveal her true face to the two men at long last. "There, that wasn't so hard, was it?" Amaterasu's True Face

It took a while, but eventually Amy came to, showing no real signs of anything being really up. She seemed a little bit tired, but then most people did these days, and those that got good nights of sleep were either incredibly lucky, or liars. For example, he couldn’t think of a single person on the ship that actually managed to sleep well, mostly down to the fact that Cream kept them up almost all hours with her incessant need to remind them all that she was most certainly not sleeping herself. It was a miracle that she managed to hide her tiredness most the time, although he put that down to her odd powers. Speaking of powers, he still didn’t understand the land they were currently in, and Amy seemed reluctant to explain it properly for some reason, as if they automatically knew what she was going on about. As he was sure she’d put it though, it was the only thing she actually knew, and nothing of the outside world had ever reached her, before these two incredibly handsome pirate men had turned up, in particular the purple haired one. He was sure she’d said something like that. Unfortunately though, almost as soon as he thought this, the fox woman blurted out abuse right into his face, before looking surprised at herself and trying to apologise for it. Now he was confused whether she was suffering from Tourette’s out of nowhere, or if she was just trying to be sly about her abuse towards him. Still… It felt weird her saying that, almost… Familiar. For some reason his breathing had picked up a little, and his hands were all clammy out of nowhere, which wasn’t a good sign. Probably nothing though… “N-no… It’s fine. Are you okay though, like… You don’t seem yourself all of a sudden?” At that point, the fox lady hopped off of the dragon, onto the snowy cold floor. The doctor grimaced, but decided to hop down after her, to make sure she didn’t fall or anything. As she began to walk, he stood beside her, holding his hands out for her to take if needs be, and ready to steady her at any moment if she did fall. He didn’t particularly like the idea of her stumbling and then managing to fling herself halfway down a mountain in one fell swoop. Once she’d stood still a bit, she began to perk up, becoming excited by the idea of where they were, and that it was almost midnight. At first, Brycen stood there confused and uncertain what she meant, but then Jack reminded him of the masks thing. He’d almost forgotten about the whole new day new person thingy that they were meant to do, having been so caught up by everything else, and the fact that he’d ridden a dragon across the sky, miles away up onto the top of a mountain, and then got shouted at for being sappy. The woman continued though, noting that she was in fact born in these mountains, which was a little bit of a surprise. To have been born somewhere to beautiful was something to be happy about for sure, but it was a little too cold for his liking, and just the idea of someone being brought into the world up here was illogical to him, but perhaps her mother was just an avid hiker or something, and got caught off guard and realised it was time. He shrugged, thinking more about the latter comment, and how the firework apparently could be seen from a great distance away. He wondered how complex it would be to make one of those, before realising Jack was thinking the same, and unsure of how something like that could even exist. Actually, now he looked at the man, he realised something quite important, there was finally some peace around here. Watching as the moisture left his mouth with each breathe, he smiled up at the nights sky, noting just how many stars there were. Sure, normally he could make out a few on a good night, but this was like looking at… Something else entirely. As he continued to look, he began to feel a little dizzy from it, and so instead looked off into the distance, across the many different types of land, and towards the miniscule light that he could make out in the distance. It was crazy that they’d managed to travel all this way in such a short amount of time, but perhaps that was the true power of a dragon, or whatever that creature was. Whatever it was though, it looked perfectly content right now, and so that was good. He’d always imagined dragons to be kind of… Four legged, and vicious, and very killable to be the knight in shining armour of the story. This wasn’t how this story went it seemed though. As he peacefully looked out, and began to forget about all his worries, a firm grasp was put on his hand, and suddenly he was told to shut his eyes. It seemed silly, but it was respectful to follow others traditions, and so he reluctantly shut his own, beginning to think about the whole thing. A resolution as such? Hm… A tough one. Maybe just a small change? Again, quite difficult. Why did he even need to change when he was surrounded by so many great people, and they all looked after each other… Well, maybe that was it. Maybe he should start being a little more caring, even towards Cream who’d managed to throw him in it with the marines, and Clyde who acted like a brat sometimes. And well… He did sort of act a little rude to women sometimes, and he felt kind of bad about that he supposed. So that was his resolution, he’d decided: He’d definitely make sure to tell every beautiful lady there was, just how attractive they really were! Boom And with that, the doctor opened his pink eyes (lol), with a new outlook on life. No longer would he allow a pretty lady to pass by without her being told just that, just like a true gentleman should do. A smile grew across his face, and he stretched his arms out, sighing a little bit and grinning to himself, not only because he’d finally decided, but also because he finally got to see Amy’s face, and then of course he’d proceed to let her be the first one to witness his resolution, as he was sure she was attractive, he could just tell from her voice and choice of clothing and, yeah. Chortling to himself as Jack commented on his looks, he shook her head, before placing his hand on the front of his mask, all epic like. If he was going to do a face reveal, he had to do it in an epic fashion, just so that for once he could feel like the villain. Time to ham it up! Leaning forwards, as if like a bow, he began to pull the mask away, making sure the string was undone beforehand. He then spun round in a full circle, until the two could see him, and then pulled it away from his face, allowing the mask to drop to the snowy floor silently, grinning ear to ear. “It’s me, surprised?” He laughed to himself, aware that in fact, they weren’t surprised that it was him. It was now Amy’s turn though, and his heart was beating so fast, as he could finally see that face of hers. He rubbed his hands together, partly in anticipation and partly because they were cold, and then watched as the woman began to reach for her mask, removing the strings and then beginning to pull away the mask, and… Her hair? Damn, so she wasn’t a natural purple, what a shame. And then her mask fell to the floor, and Brycen could finally look upon her face, see her flaming red hair, her burning with passion eyes, her faint freckles and faint features… And… Well… “I… I… W-What...” The doctor stood there in awe, his clothing and hair flapping in the faint wind as he looked upon Amy’s face, a very familiar face. The face of… The face of… “F-Florence?” |

Jack blinked a few times as he looked in-between Brycen and Amy, was he missing out on something? The pirate captain felt a chill creeping up his spine though as his doctor spoke in a shocked and almost petrified manner. The blond watched silently for once, as the red haired amy tilted her head slightly in confusion at doc boy's words, "Excuse me?" she asked, wondering if she had heard the man's words right. Jack scratched his nose a bit as he looked on, "You two meet before by chance? Maybe now with the mask gone your more familiar? Heck, I don't know" the pirate pondered, speaking his brief thoughts on the matter while he folded his arms across his chest in an attempt to keep warm despite the mountain air. Amy seemed even more confused though as Jack offered his possability, turning her head to gaze deep into Brycen's purple eyes before chuckling nervously, "Heh, no- I'm certain I've never met you until tonight, maybe this altitude is starting to get to you" she said trying to diffuse the situation a bit. Jack frowned a tad, he didn't know Brycen quite like the back of his hand yet- but the man was starting to get a feel for what made the purple haired man tick, and for whatever reason, Jack was picking up on the surprised vibes that the doctor was putting off. Looking between the two, and back to the fireworks which had now faded away, with the new year heralded in, Jack picked up his rednose mask from the snow covered ground and looked at it briefly. Why did he get the feeling that he was missing out on something pretty major at the moment? Why were the words from the crazy old man from the campfire starting to rattle in his brain all of a sudden? The sound of Amy suddenly screaming caused Jack to cut his thoughts short as he looked up to see the fram of the red haired woman writhing in pain, gripping here head as if she were experiencing a severe migrane. "I-gah! My head! Gods my head!" she cried in agony as some trails of blood began trickling from her nose as if she were experiencing a severe nosebleed. "Avast, she be bleedin' like the red sea of Agathon!" Jack shouted, falling into some lapsed pirate gibberish as he shoved Brycen forwards- he was smart, he wore a lab coat, he was a doctor, he could fix her right? "Do something or I'll keelhaul ye!" Jack swore as he looked down at Amy who had colapsed onto the snow and was now breathing heavily, gasping for air like a fish out of water as she began to bleed form her nose and mouth. "Help... me...Save...me" she gasped inbetween her pained breaths. Jack was bewildered by what was happening. What WAS happening? Why only a few moments ago his guide had seemed perfectly healthy and fine! Yet all of a sudden, the red haired fox woman was now collapsing into a bloody heap of pain and torment in front of the one-eyes pirates one eye! Jack's face went pale as he tried to think of something quick, what could he do? How far were they from a proper hospital- did they even have hospitals in this looney bin of a kingdom or wherever the hell they were? Jack felt himself falling into despair as he tried to stammer out an order like a real captain, "I-I... Oh gods... I" he stammered out, his mind unable to cope with the sudden change of events and circumstances. The blond pirate grit his teeth as he stood there, unable to make up his mind on what to do next. Jack could only watch as the screams of pain by Amy grew more and more intense as her wails seemed to echo throughout the mountiantop like that of a banshee. Louder and louder it became, filling Jack's head with a terrible sound which he was unable to block out- louder and louder until finally- Everything became quite. Jack opened his eye, slowly but surely. The scene of the mountaintop view, of the beautiful night sky, of the clearing, of the dragon, of amy- of everything, had disappeared. He was still wearing his kimono, and his rednose mask was still clutched in his right hand, but the man now found himself standing in what could only be described as a black void. Brycen was there with him, standing by his side as it appeared they had not been separated- yet, it was only them in this strange eternal blackness, an infinite void which seemed to stretch on forever. Jack looked around, we was standing on solid ground- whatever it was he was standing on anyways, that is. For one reason or another though, the man felt very... afraid, like he and Brycen were just specks- no, less than specks, in a darkness that seemed to stretch on into eternity. Jack could hear himself breathing heavily in paranoia as he looked around, until, that is, the sound of clapping from behidn him and Brycen could be heard. "Well, you did it, you've found it" the familiar voice spoke to the two men. Whipping around, Jack turned to see the standing image of Libra looking at the two men with a small smile- although there was a glint in his one good eye that told Jack that there was something... else... there as well. A look of rage covered the pirate's features as he stared Libra down, "Enough of the games old man! What is all of this! Where are we? What did we find exaclty?" Jack asked, a frustration and deep desperation creeping through into his voice as he spoke. Libra gave an apologetic grin, "Haha, what did you find? My dear friends- you found your it! Well, Brycen did at least. The truth at the heart of the mystery, the fire burning within his lodge" Libra said, causing Jack's face to twist into an expression of confusion and contemplation. "So... The Mystery Lodge... you're it's owner?" Jack asked causing Libra to give a slow nod of confirmation, "I suppose 'owner' is a good enough title..." the man said pondering the thought for a moment before dissolving the thought, "The Mystery Lodge is a place within your realm, yet beyond it as well, it is a place ever changing- its composition fluid and reflecting whatever the visitor needs to see" Libra stated, causing JAck to leap on the new news, glossing over what much of the man said, "So, this is the work of some devil fruit? Something logical?" the man asked causing Libra ot shrug, "Perhaps, maybe it is, maybe it isn't- part of the joys of life may be trying to make sense of the mystery of it all, but one must not forget though that it is for these mysteries that we seek to keep living" the man replied, sitting down on a log like the one the three had sat on earlier eating s'mores. Jack fell silent at that, not sure what to think anymore. "Mhm, the mystery of life- of lives, I should say, that undying question that fuels a person. Will I ever be a great captain like my mentor? Will I protect others when I failed to protect her? Will I survive the Grand Line when evil men full of malice and spite roam free? The particulars change, but the central theme always remains- it is the hunt, then, the search for one's soul almost, which this lodge revolves around" Libra spoke, giving a brief speech to Jack and Brycen in this strange endless void realm. The blond pirate sat down on a log that had appeared behind him, staring into the campfire inbetween him and Libra who now was eating s'mores once more. The blond... didn't know what to make out of any of this, when he looked up and made eye contact with Libra again, the man simply asked: "Did you enjoy your night, then? Was it good to see her again?" he asked, directing his question more at Brycen this time. |

“Y-You… You don’t remember? I… We were…” The doctor began to lose it, as he realised that the love of his life stood before him, yet she stood there, oblivious of who he was. What the hell was happening? She couldn’t have been here as it was, she was dead, he was sure of it, she’d died practically in his hands, and was the reason he’d ended up leaving Swiftbreeze, after getting his medical license. There was no way that this was really her, yet… She was. It was her face, her body, her voice, her personality, everything. His vision began to blur as tears began to well up. “What the fuck is wrong with this place? Why is this happening..? It’s… It’s me, Brycen, remember? We had that place and…” Before he could even finish, the sky began to darken slightly from the fading firework, and suddenly Florence was writhing in pain. He felt a force on his back, but he was already moving forwards and didn’t need any encouragement there, as he knelt own and began inspecting his dead wife, who lay there with blood streaming from her nose, his voice one of agony. His eyes were wide, as he tried to see through his tears, constantly wiping them away as he began checking her for any major signs of injury, pinching her nose as he did so and holding her in his arms, making sure she was sat upright to prevent a large amount of pressure in her head. “I’m here, ok? I’m here, it’s all going to be ok.” He tried to force a smile, but couldn’t manage it, as he began having flashbacks to before. Sure, this was just a nosebleed, but the last time he’d held her like this… She had severe injuries, and in the end he’d lost her because of that. He’d began sailing to find a cure to all injuries and diseases, so that even the worst of injuries could be patched up. He’d set out to find that, yet here he was, watching as his loved one slowly bled out in immense pain. And that’s when he realised, that all this time he’d really just been having fun. Sure, he’d helped save the world from a Lich King, but they didn’t need him there really, it was Jack who had saved them all. All this time he’d been messing about, and hadn’t found anything new, no new research or any breakthroughs. His head began to pound as his attempts to calm her were droned out by even louder screaming, and all he could think to do was take her to the dragon. Maybe there was a hospital nearby with something to numb the pain, or maybe it was something to do with her being away from the forest. He began to scoop her up, getting to his feet as he… As soon as she left the floor, Florence became weightless, and in the blink of an eye suddenly she was gone. He caught his breath. The whole world around him had gone as well. He stood in the void, the nothingness, trying to hold back sobs as it slowly dawned on him. He’d lost her again. He clenched his fist and looked around him, beginning to desperately search for her, beginning to stumble about in the nothingness, with only Jack in sight. Did he know where she was? No, he couldn’t do… The doctor collapsed to his knees, sending something on the floor skittering away, echoing across the nothingness which surrounded them. He paid it no attention though, holding himself up with only his arms now, still on his knees. Raising his head slowly, he looked towards his captain, almost as if begging for him to find a solution to this. He’d found something he’d not expecting to be looking for, and then all of a sudden, it was torn away from him, along with his already damaged heart. He gritted his teeth, dropping his head to the floor as all he could do was fight to keep the pain in. And then a voice. A familiar one. Not Florence’s, but… The man they’d met earlier. The night had been so long, he’d already forgotten this man, and almost everything he’d told them. Despite having not seen him for so long though, it felt like he’d been with them the whole time, as if he’d been looming over them, judging and toying with them. His presence, although finally apparent, didn’t seem all too surprising. Biting hit tongue, Brycen fought back his pain and tears, and began to sit up, to listen to what the two men had to say. The Mystery Lodge. He could recall that name, from outside that weird, rundown building they’d walked into. His mind began to blot things out, as if he wouldn’t want to hear the next bit, but it just couldn’t manage to fight his reason. This was no doing of alcohol of drugs, he knew that for sure. Neither could create something quite as real as this, quite so… Painful. His breathing became heavier as he continued to listen, grasping the concept more and more of what had happened. The world began to form around them once again, a familiar campfire with some familiar logs, and a familiar laid back guy across from the both of them. Brycen couldn’t help but begin to dislike this place, as he got up from his slouch, and moved himself over to a log to sit on. The ground was more comfortable, but this was more ideal for talking, and for sure he had a lot of that which he wanted to do. “So… Let me get this straight… You created this place, in the hope people would walk in and see which they most wanted to see…” The doctor’s knuckles began to whiten as he tried to keep himself under control. After what had just happened, his emotions were all over the place, which was naturally quite understandable. Raising his head to stare directly at the man, the man called Libra, he continued: “So you could say that anything that goes on here is your fault… “ Parts of his mind began to open up a little bit, one piece at a time. He began to remember things which he had paid little attention to originally, yet made more sense now that he thought about it. His eyes began to wander as he tried to figure out a way out of here, as it dawned on him that they could be in quite a bit of danger, more so than they’d already been put through. He was angry, but after that… He had a renewed outlook on life, and he knew that no matter what, they needed to make it out of this place, so that he could complete his life’s work. “I hope you realise that I’m holding you accountable for everything here… And I demand you… To bring her back…” He’d tried to hold his rage back, and all his emotions, for he knew deep down it wasn’t the right thing to do. If he wanted to get them out of here, like he’d just been thinking to himself, then he’d need to remain in control. But… Sometimes things just didn’t go like that. “Bring back Florence… Bring… Back… My… Wife” |

Jack stared into the fire as he, Brycen, and Libra conversed in this strange endless void realm. Was it all a lie then? Everything that the two men had seen so far: the forest, Amy, the festival, the dragon- all of it, was it really all just part of some sort of lesson that this person fabricated to fool them both? Either way, they had both fallen for it hook, line, and sinker. The man looked up from the flames of the campfire though as he heard Brycen start to speak in response to Libra's revelations. It had occured to Jack then, that he had never heard Brycen being truly angry- but as the purple haired doctor spoke, Jack soon found out what that bitter and utter rage looked like int he guise of the well meaning doctor. The blond's eyebrows raised upwards as the man heard more and more, learnign how the doctor and Amy- or, Florence, as she was truly called, was connected with Brycen. "By the gods..." the man said as realization dawned in his mind, he-he had no idea what his doctor could have been thinking right then processing all of this, learning that his wife who he had probably lost was in fact very much not dead probably did that to a person. As Brycen comanded through grit teeth for Libra to bring back his wife, Jack fell silent, his heart beating fast as he waited to see what the strange ruler of this realm would do to them both. Libra stared in the fire for a while, eating his marshmellow once it was finished, before he responded, "It's never easy, you know- showing people who they really are in thier most vulnerable moments" the man started, causing Jack to sit up straight and pay more attention to the cryptic answeres being given, "-I show people only what they need to see, not what they want to see... Were it in my power, I could return her to the real world, but alas, this is my prison as much as it is yours... Out there, in the beyond, I'm all alone, a husk of a creature..." Libra continued, causing Jack's gaze to narrow- what was this old man going on about? "Return her?" Jack pondered, wondering what on earth the man meant by that, and more importantly what he meant that this place was his prison. After staring into the fire for a few more moments, Libra looked up at the two men, opened his mouth to speak, before looking back down at the fire, "I shouldn't have said that- there are so many here with me, so many who can never return to their mortal coils. With me they live another life, a better life, but they can never return. Your Florence is the same way I'm afraid, in a way, at least..." Libra continued, before looking at his watch and giving off a surprised look on his face. "Oh, why, look at the time! It's practically morning!" the man said with a chuckle, causing Jack to frown a bit- there was still so much the man wasn't answering, still so much he was leaving the two men in the dark one, "Morning- why is that so important, what happens in the morning?" Jack asked, perplexed as to what it was the man was going on about. "Why, morning is when you two go home of course! You've found the truth at the heart of the mystery lodge, and soon it will be time for you to return to your realm" Libra stated with a swift nod. Jack wasn't sure what to think at that. On the one hand was relieved to finally be going home to his crew and his ship, and to get out of this madhouse- but on the other hand, the man knew that Brycen's wife, Florence- that wasn't something he, or Jack himself, could leave behind. "Look here you wretch, we're leaving here with this man's wife when the time comes!" Jack yelled, standing up and resolving upon the matter. Libra sighed, "I told you already, none of my kin can leave, not anymore- only guests, like you, can come and go as they please... Although, if you are so determined, I could make some arrangements for you if you wished" the man said, looking up at the two men and scratching his chin. Suddenly, a flash of light burst out of the fire, forcing Jack to cover his eyes as this entire void world was suddenly enveloped in a whiteness which swallowed their reality whole. Brighter and brighter it got until Jack could take no more!
Jack's tense body slowly began to relax as he felt the overbearing light aroudn him cool off into a gentle warmth. Slowly opening his eyes, Jack could see cracks of sunlight inbetween the hand covering his face. Slowly moving them away, the man slowly began to feel the new environment around him- he was currently laying on a towel in swim trunks on a crowded beach, with a small and cute little town behind him, full with people wearing normal clothes and perusing the various stores and stalls. There were seagulls flying overhead, people swimming and surfing in the water, amongst other typical scenery. "What? My head, gods..." the man groaned to himself as he sat up from his prone position. Upon sitting up though, he realized he could see two familiar faces supposedly sunbathing next to him, the first being Brycen, and the second being Florence who was next to the aforementioned doctor. The pirate, sweating both from the heat of the summer beach day and from his confusion and disorientation from the sudden shift in scenery, began swaying dangerously as his mind continued to reel with what was happening. The man, however felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking over, the man noticed a strange woman looking up at him with a concerned face, "Hey, you alright? You look like you're about to throw up- and for real this time too, not when you accidentally ordered jalepenos on your burger earlier" she said with a nervous chuckle that caused Jack to leer forwards. "This-This isn't real!" the man shouted, his mind struggling to keep track of what in this reality was solid and what was fake. The blond pirate scrambled to his feet, stumbling forwards and kicking sand as he went until he fell into the knee deep waves, "Hey! Wait up! Stop!" the strange woman yelled. Jack though, wasn't coping well- was al of this fake? Were these people in here with him real? Libra had clearly stated there were mutliple 'prisoners' like him and Brycen, or even Florence- did that mean that some of these people were living in this strange reality without knowing they were trapped? Each thought seemed to build onto the last as Jack gabbed his face, rubbing the saltwater out of his eyes as he moaned" Oh god, oh man oh god, oh man, oh god, oh man!" he cried out, his world spinning. "Hey, cut it out! Fuck! You're scaring me!" the strange woman yelled at Jack, grabbing him by the shoulders and straightening him out. In Brycen's and Jack's minds, they would hear a painfully familiar voice, "A perfect world, no? I could arrange everything so that you would all have the happiest lives conceivable. Maybe Brycen would become the greatst doctor of his generation, or Jack would become president of a republic- or some other thing! You could stay here, with me, and with those trapped here with me- and we could all be happy, happeir than any of us could be in the real world- happier than any of us could be int he Grand Line!" |

The doctor was just about ready to slap a bitch, and he really could. All he needed to do was jump to his feet, jump past the fire and grab hold of the lazy old guy, and hit him as many times as needs be. But something stopped him… Perhaps it was the fact that if he hit this guy too much, he’d end up refusing to be of any help, and in the end it would hinder him more than help. Despite this realisation though, he still couldn’t help but sit there, furiously clenching his fists and just about ready to jump at him either way. “You sir, should stop talking in code…” He continued to look down, unable to keep eye contact in fear of either crying or shouting, which may not have been a good idea considering this guy was in control of… In control of if he got to see Florence again. He continued to listen though, even if he didn’t want to, trying to take it all in and to understand what was being said. As he continued to speak, it began to sort of come together, that she was trapped here and couldn’t leave just like Libra himself. “But… If she can’t leave then why would you…” He tried to make sense of what was going on, still struggling with the idea of it all. He’d been shown his dead wife in person, and then had her torn away just a few moments later, told that he couldn’t see her again. The last memory he’d had of her had been her death, and now it was her dying with blood spewing from her nose. Why would anyone ever think that’s a good idea? Rising to his feet, without anything in particular in mind, he let out a drained and pained sigh, looking towards Libra, still angry and very much upset. “He’s right, we’re not leaving without her.” It didn’t feel like it should be morning yet, but he supposed time was kind of warped when compared to the inside and outside of the building, at least to a small degree. That wasn’t what mattered though, as something more important was on the mind. How could he get Florence out of there with him? This guy, if he could bring her back in that place, why couldn’t she leave there with them. And why had she been torn away so soon? It had to be a lie, he just had to… He’d just have to get this guy to go along with it. Unfortunately, as he stepped forwards the fire erupted, filling the man’s eyes with light and forcing him to shut them and look away. Brycen opened his eyes. It was warmer here… And brighter overall. He didn’t know here was, but he could hear the screeching of gulls, and the crashing of waves. Above them was a perfectly blue sky. Eventually the fact that they were somewhere else kicked in, and the doctor jumped to his feet, looking around in fear and trying to work out where he was. All around him was yellow, clean sand, making up the beach which he stood on. In front of him was the clear blue sea, and when he glanced behind him he noticed a quaint town, somewhere he could imagine living in all honesty. Finally he looked down though, and noticed that all he wore were shorts, and so he quickly tried to cover his body to hide… His runes… That weren’t there. In surprise, he began to pat down his body, confused at the missing marks across his skin, until he heard a familiar voice. “What’s wrong? Something bothering you?” His heart skipped a beat as he recognised that voice, and turned slowly to notice a familiar individual laid next to where he had just been, before he’d jumped up in fear. All he could do was stand there still, staring at her as he tried to take it all in, as he realised that Libra must have put him here with Florence. A smile grew on his face, and a moment later he launched himself at the woman as she began to sit up, wrapping his arms around her partially bare body as he nuzzled her neck and probably freaked her out a little bit. “Ugh, what’s gotten into you?” Unwrapping his arms for a moment, he took hold of her face, squidging her cheeks slightly as he tilted her head one way and then the other, making sure this was really her. Sure enough, she showed all the signs of being real, and that he’d finally found her. He hadn’t exactly been searching for her in particular, but as soon as he’d found out she was here… Well, that’s when he’d started. He pulled her into another hug, this time a lot firmer as he breathed a sigh of relief. She attempted to push him off, but soon gave up when she realised that he had no obligation to let her go. And then the voice kicked in. The voice he really hadn’t wanted to hear. The voice of Libra. Releasing Florence again, he fell backwards and held his head, refusing to listen to anything being said but aware that it was all he could do. Despite not wanting to listen though… The weird guy made a decent point, and it already sounded like a good offer. But there had to be a catch. A free life of happiness without any worries sounded great, especially when spent with his wife, but… “But…” He began holding his head even tighter, trying to work something out. This was the perfect opportunity to be happy and experience anything he wanted. His days of having to survive those harsh seas, and patching up Clyde’s face every five minutes would be over. No more cleaning the ship or sleepless nights from Cream’s consistent escapades. He could go back to how things were before, yet they’d be even easier this time. He wouldn’t even need to keep working on medicine, because it would all be provided to him… “But…” Something was telling him no. It wasn’t just the fact that Jack was having a fit in the waters nearby, as currently he was ignoring him pretty well. He had something more major to think about. But… What the hell was it? It was multiple things actually now he thought about it, he could almost see the issues multiplying, becoming bigger and bigger. “Butt? What the hell are you on about Brycen?” His eyes finally opened, and he noticed Florence sat in front of him, her hand on her butt as if really defensive about it. He smiled slightly at the joke, and eventually decided that figuring out what was wrong could wait as he let himself drop forwards a little bit, laying on top of his wife and holding her tightly, smiling to himself. Well… Whether there was an issue or not, he was happy right now, and he didn’t have a single care in the world. How couldn’t he be happy right now? Slowly but surely, his memories of the real world seemed to seem less and less significant. |

Jack stumbled back a bit as he felt one of the waves sway into him gently- oh gods, what was this? Was this all part of some devil fruit? Something else? The man's stomach churned inside, his mind spinning at a dangerous speed, he felt as if he was about to pass out all of a sudden. The strange woman seemed to embrace him though as if to try and calm him down, aware that the blond was making quite the scene and starting to scare some of the other beachgoers also playing in the waves or surfing. "Hey, hey, hey! L-Let's just go sit back down, maybe you're just dehydrated or something" she said pulling on his arm to guide him back to the sandy beach where the other two were. Still, Jack's mind was swimming in confusion. Libra's words seemed to echo in his mind, rattling him to his core- this entire scene, maybe this entire world, was fake? How far did the crazy old man's powers go? Jack spun around and grabbed the woman's arms, causing her to yelp slightly as she looked up at the man who now looked somewhat possessed compared to how he was only a few minutes ago sunbathing on the beach. Jack looked the stranger over, what was this- Libra, did he, "How did we meet. Who am I. Who are you? Where are we? What's going o-" Jack sputtered out, causing the gray haired woman's eyes to become wider and wider as the man continued to rave. "Jack please, y-you're scaring me!" she said before acting unexpectedly and tightly hugging the blond pirate , a motion which confused Jack even more as not even Dr.Phil could help him at this point with all the therapy he'd need to figure all of this out. Jack was horrified probably most of all though by just how 'real' everything was. The people, the waves, the familiar feeling yet unknown stranger currently hugging him. It was all surreal. As he heard the woman speak, Jack looked out into space, staring out across the horizon towards the crystal clear blue sea... He had always what might lie just beyond, but now, that fascination was replaced with dread. "It's me, Sophie! We grew up together on the same street! We went to the same schools, we saw the same movies- fuck, we even made the same politically incorrect and possibly racist jokes! I'm you're goddamn fiance!" the woman said, the conviction in her words and the tightness of her comfort hug appalling Jack in just how sincerely and emphatically she believed the words she was saying, as if it was all real to her. Jack stumbled back deeper into the water as he continued to panic, "No-no, this can't be, this isn't real- this is all an illusion, it's all fake! It's, it's..." Jack continued to say but the more he spoke the more the gray haired woman seemed to hug him tighter and tighter. "Stop it! Stop saying that! We're here for your birthday after all, we're on vacation from the city! Fuck, we even brought your friend Brycen and his wife to come along!" Sophie cried, literally now. Jack though, felt numb all over, the only thing that seemed to connect with him at this point was the sensation of the waves gently hitting him. The man blinked, rubbing the saltwater out of his eyes... Jack rubbed them again, before realizing that he suddenly had both of his eyes once again, the twin green orb that he had lost so long ago now returned to him. As he felt the seawater still sting his eyes a bit, the man thought things over. What if... What if he stayed here, in this wonderland? The world he and Brycen had visited was beautiful, without a shred of a doubt, albeit slightly too fantastical for his needs- but still beautiful, causing a spark of adventurous spirit in the pirate that he yearned for so much. Libra had said he could arrange the ideal life if the two men wanted to- Jack could be anything he wanted to, automatically succeeding and becoming the best at it. He could have a lover or wife like he supposedly had now, one that was optimized to fit his personality and is just as erratic as him. It could be great, he could live the perfect life- one that was happier than anything he could achieve in the real world, he would be master of all... The pira-...No, was he still a pirate in this world? Did pirates even exist? The...man... looked down at Sophie before suddenly hugging her back and closing his eyes, his mind still considering the whole matter. What was out there, anyways? He had a ship that was a joke, Cream was a nymphomaniac who constantly caused misadventures, Clyde was disgusting, and Tessa and her goons were more a burden than a benefit these days... Why should he go back? The sensation of Sophie sighing a bit in relief as some normalcy and calm returned to the pirate brought Jack back to attention, "Erm, I'm sorry- I've just got a lot on my mind is all. What did we have planned for tonight? I forgot" Jack said before hearing Sophie exhale even more as she snuggled up a bit, "Gods... Well, we were going to head home, get changed, go get dinner an maybe go to that boardwalk we drove by earlier and just walk around- then probably go back to the hotel and go from there?" Sophie suggested. Jack winced a bit before smiling, it was perfect... too perfect... Still, there was something nagging at the back of his mind- was this.... Was this what Avery would have done if he were still alive right now and with Jack? "Hey, why don't you go and tell Brycen and Florence we'd like to maybe go soon- I'll come out of the water in a bit" Jack said with a small smile and nod. Sophie let go, gave a brief smile of relief before turning around and wading through the water back up onto the beach towards where their stuff was. With the woman gone, Jack could sigh a bit as well. The man felt his left eye- remembering vividly how it had been pulverized by a pirate raider on Desertia- how his brother had betrayed him and caused all this chaos to happen. The man could remember the pain, he could remember the screams. "Tell me, Libra, if I were to stay here- what would happen to me? My mind? My memories?" Jack asked knowing that the damned old man was still listening despite not having a physical presence. After a few moments of silence, the figure spoke, "Mhm, why, you'd end up like the woman who was hugging you a few moments ago- you'd still be the same person with your personality... But your memories, your connections to the real world- all of that would dissolve over time, you'd accept this realm as your reality, a reality of good and perfection- as you have seen, you'd be happy here beyond a shadow of the doubt, just like Sophie, and others like here trapped in this jail" Libra said. Jack remained silent as the figure spoke, his eyes watching the swaying hips of the woman who was supposedly his fiance as she walked up to Brycen and florence- what was the doc boy thinking? Libra, continued after this brief pause however, "-you'd be infinite, time, life, and space would be rearranged for you. If you died in this realm, you'd be reborn in another- perfect and balanced like the scales. You could live your entire life here, die with someone like Sophie by your side and be immediately born into a new one only a moment later- perhaps one as outlandish as the Forbidden Palace or one as simple and calm as this beachside town..." Libra said before falling silent as Jack took the information in... There was one last question he needed to ask. "You said others like Sophie have been trapped in this realm with you- does that mean others are merely constructs?" Jack asked, watching the beach and the hundreds of people playing all along the shoreline, all laughing and having fun without realizing what was happening. It took Libra a few moments to respond, "Aye, memories are a powerful thing boy- through them, I can recreate loved ones, shades of figures long since departed from this earth" Libra stated. Jack clenched his fists as he heard that, "-you'd never be able to tell the difference, especially once you yield your mind to me, and accept this world as your reality" he said. Jack frowned as he heard that, gritting his teeth a bit- the answer had prompted one final question, which he asked as he looked at Brycen sitting next to the red haired Florence, "So... Tell me then... Is Florence fake?" Jack asked. His heart beating faster as he awaited the answer, "Yes. She is a construct based off the memories of Brycen's life, quite a complete one at that mind you- I'm impressed myself with how put together she is compared to some others, given time I'm sure she'll be more perfect than the real Florence ever was" Libra stated causing Jack's eyes to shoot open in shock. His body was shaking, his teeth grinding together in a rage as he heard Libra's words... "This word is perfect. It's a beautiful place, a happy place- I could do anything I want here, as long as I can imagine it. I could become the greatest pirate alive in this dreamworld, I would be Jack Rackham, the man..." "So, I'll take your offer of a perfect world... AND TOSS IT OVERBOARD FOR THE SHARKS TO FEAST ON YOU BLEEDIN' COCKROACH!" Jack said before suddenly switching into his normal pirate jargon and stomping out of the water back to shore. Libra's words were suddenly full of shock and surprise as he probably watched Jack trudge out of the water and walk right up to Brycen. "Stop, you don't know what you're giving up here- I can offer you everything, I can make you happier than your wildest dreams, I can make Brycen live a happy life with his wife, you can't throw that all away!" Libra stated, however Jack's mind was made up- he could feel Avery walking beside him, almost in spirit, urging him on. The Maelstrom needed to be wild and free. Jack approached the spot where the three were lying. He loomed over Brycen, standing tall and casting a long and dark shadow as he looked down at the purple haired man. He didn't know what Libra had mentally told him, or if he had already accepted this reality or not. Jack looked briefly to Sophie who seemed startled to see the blond stomp across the beach to where the three of them were. In a way, it pained the pirate a bit, the gray haired woman would have captured his fancy if they were both in the real world, why the salty sea dog would have scooped her up right there on the spot most likely... Yet, this was all just a happy dream- she might have been stuck in it, something Jack couldn't fix, but he and Brycen were only guests... And like any dream, it had to end sooner or later... Like any guest, they had to leave the Mystery Lodge... "Brycen..." Jack said, not sure what to say to his second mate and doctor, "It's time to go, Brycen..." he said, his dark shadow looming large over the doctor. As he spoke those words, he found more resolve coming to his voice. "Your name is Brycen Watts, the doctor of the Maelstorm Pirates. Your dream is to save as many people as you can with your medicinal knowledge, your dead wife Florence was the wind beneath your wings, and your now sailing on the SS Cory In the House with the most ludicrous and insane crew in the Grand Line... It's time to go, Brycen, we can't cling onto ghosts..." |

All of the doctor’s worries seemed to float away, as he held Florence tighter and tighter, smiling ear to ear. He’d finally found something to numb the pain of losing her, and that was finding her again. He’d set sail to do so many things, but now that he laid here, they all seemed like little nothings as he breathed steadily, calmly listening to the world around him. The sea waves, the gulls, even the murmur of people around them, it all seemed to settle his nerves and release a lot of the stress that he’d built up over time. It was good to relax at long last. But… “I love you” A whisper in his ear, which once again interrupted his thoughts to say anything negative. He shouldn’t have been unhappy here, life was good and he could do as he pleased from the sounds of it. He could relax around all day, with the love of his life, without any repercussions, and certainly no loomed threat of being dragged into a ridiculous battle against who knows what, whether it be the Lich King, or some hormone lady. For now he could be content that everything was good, and that… No this wasn’t right. “I love you too” It was almost instinct by now to reply like that, but now that he had that something in his mind, he wasn’t letting it go. He opened his eyes and sat up, trying to act casually to not spook Florence. It was something that Libra had said, about being trapped. Being somewhere like here did sound pretty good, but he knew that his wife was dead deep down, and that hurt him but he had to accept that. Being stuck here with… A soulless husk of her, although it seemed ok, he didn’t know if it was right per say. It was like living in a simulation of real life, which… Didn’t seem right to him. Turning towards where Jack was, he noticed the man dancing around in the water, before talking to himself and leaving the grey hared girl to come over and talk to them. Something seemed different about him, but he couldn’t tell what. Maybe it was just that for once he wasn’t in his usual pirate attire, but even then that felt kind of wrong, like he was missing something more major. He shrugged it off, trying to remember why they were at the beach exactly. Wait, that was it, Libra had put them here hadn’t he. But… Who was he again? The doctor held his head in his hands, realising that his memory was beginning to blur, and just as he’d started to realise something too. Beaches didn’t seem to sit well with him these days. “Jack said he’d like to leave soon you guys” Brycen broke out of his trance and looked at the grey haired girl for a while, slowly taking in what she’d said. Go, go where? Were they going home to… Where was home? Swiftbreeze right? But… Where was that? He frowned, and then nodded at her so she knew he’d got the message. He turned back to Florence, smiling at her and offering her a hand up, pulling her to her feet once she took his hand. “I guess we’re going with them then?” She looked at him like he was an idiot, before falling back into the sand, dragging him with her and causing him to topple into the sand next to her, laughing along with her. This was good, this made him happy, and this was something he could live with. Whatever he’d been fretting over, it didn’t matter. He was a doctor, had an amazing wife, and lived peacefully at home with a child… Wait, no, no child just yet, probably… That stumped him for a moment, but soon it passed by, as he sighed to himself. And then it went a little dark. He frowned, at first thinking the sun had gone in, but then noticed Jack stood in front of him, holding himself proudly in what little clothing he actually had on. The man spoke slowly at first, almost unsure of something, but made sense. He’d already had whatserface come over and tell them it was time to go, he didn’t need to announce it like it was something new, and definitely not so menacing. They all knew it was getting late. But then the man continued to talk, and things began to fit back into place. He sat up quickly, listening and taking in the information, as it slowly flooded his mind once again. Occasionally he looked over towards Florence, who looked rather confused and at some point disgusted, especially when he said she was dead. Yet… In his mind he knew this was true, despite her being sat next to him? It didn’t make sense, but… By the time he’d finish talking, it fit together scarily well. His memories aligned with it, more than they did with this place here, but it just couldn’t be. He was here wasn’t he, not out there? That place didn’t exist, this place surely did. But despite how much he thought that to himself, his memories continued to shift back into place, as he began to accept things. “I swear to God… If we get back and find Clyde rubbing his own waste across the walls of the ship, you’re going to be the one cleaning it up.” He sighed, rising to his feet and briefly turning towards Florence. He’d never really said goodbye to her, yet here he was, with the ability to do so. Sure, she wasn’t quite the real thing, but this was the only real chance he’d ever have. He knelt in front of her as she sat up, holding her head in his hands and smiling at her, before moving forwards and kissing her forehead. He then whispered in her ear: “See you around” And with that, he stood up and turned away, blinking away the tears as he stood next to Jack. If his captain was wrong, they were going to look like the two biggest plebs to have ever lived right now, and Florence would never let him live it down, but he was pretty certain Jack was right. When was he wrong? As his final memories seemed to click back into place, he realised some past memories had been jogged. “So, that’s what I forgot huh?” Libra... What an inconvenience. He shrugged it off, aware that he could explain it to Jack another time. For now, they had the real world to be returning to. The so called voice inside his head, the creator of this place, originally had been so quiet, apparently talking to his captain moreso than him, which was a little bit rude, but probably for the best. He’d expected things to turn out well just because of the company, but now he didn’t seem so quiet, shouting at them to stop or something, or maybe he was making that up. Clearing his mind and focusing on the real world, he turned to the pirate stood beside him and laughed: “That was some strong stuff they were serving in the bar. If I hadn’t have been kicked out, I could have totally gone for another” |

"Heh, I was thinking we could just not serve him food for a week and see how he likes it then?" the pirate said with a small yet still slightly pained smile as he looked down at his doctor. Jack couldn't imagine what Brycen must have been feeling right then and there, especially as he looked at the red headed woman known as Florence who, similar to Sophie, were completely entrapped in this reality, believing it to be true. The blond simply looked away as he heard the purple haired man say his simple yet straightforwards goodbye. The Maelstrom choked up a bit hearing the other man's words, an uncharacteristic move on his part but one which he felt moved to let happen regardless. He hadn't experienced whatever kind of loss it was that Brycen had, not yet at least, but that simple statement made by the purple haired man was enough to tug on the pirate's heartstrings as they spoke loudly. Jack sighed, feeling his left eye again, noting the sensation and what it felt like to be able to see clearly for the first time in almost five years. He would have been a liar if he said that he didn't miss it, still, in a way he'd gladly give it up again- after all, would he still be the same person if he just kept it and forgot about his previous life? He wouldn't have Avery, he wouldn't have Brycen, nor Cream, nor Clyde- they were his everything now that he had nothing left. That was something nobody could take from him, a prize he'd pay any price to obtain. Jack looked away as Brycen turned around and started walking, he let the purple haired man walk ahead of him a she struggled to keep back tears. The pirate captain nodded in approval beofre doing the same once more to Sophie who seemed utterly perplexed by the change of events as Florence was. "Time to go home then" the man said, following Brycen as they started walking down the beach. As the two men walked, the air around them seemed to crack almost- a strange phenonemeon, before finally a literaly crack in space soon appeared. Jack frowned but continued to walk towards the strange crack as it expanded and grew larger and larger, eventually encompassing the entire area in front of them. A few moments later, everything seemed to just sort of shatter like glass. The world they were in, the beach, the scenery, the people, Florence and Sophie- they cracked like glass before falling apart and dissolving into shining dust. The pirate frowned as he kept walking, once again in a black void similar to where they just were before when they were discussing with Libra over the second campfire. Jack snorted as Brycen then spoke of the strong drink they had been partaking in at the bar, "Aye, we'll need to wheel a few kegs of that grog back to the ship for when we leave Cactus" Jack nodded in agreement as the world around them continued to change. As they walked, the black void around them suddenly sprang to life, colors of all sorts, springing upwards and all round them, yet seemingly guiding the two men as they walked down a narrow tunnel of light, color, and sound towards a bright wall of light which lay at its end. "I suppose that's the way out then... I wonder what the others will think when we've gotten back?" the man thought aloud before chuckling a bit, "Heh, I wonder if they'd just steal the ship and leave us behind..." the man said with a bemused smile on his face before an oh so familiar voice began to speak in his and Brycen's head, "I do hope you've enjoyed your visit then, please to come by and say hello later in the future please- I'd like to have more friends, I get so lonely, so very very lonely" Libra said with almost a sad tone in his old and scratchy voice as the two men walked down the tunnel of light towards what they presumably thought was the exit to this Mystery Lodge. Hearing the old man speak so casually though despite his ambiguous and still unclear purpose/motives caused the pirate to raise an eyebrow, for everything the two men had experienced there was still leagues more they didn't know about the strange man, or his powers for that matter- however, these were questions for another time. "Oh don't worry about that, something tells me we three will be meeting again one day, I can feel it in my bones" Jack called back as he waved his hand dismissively. Jack kept his eyes on the light at the end of the tunnel though, "Don't you worry about us, I'm sure we'll be fine- the Grand Line is a paradise after all" the man said with a chuckle as he heard Libra sigh in their minds, "Paradise? Its a hell boy, there's nothing beyond this Lodge but misery and pain" the voice said briefly raising its voice before falling silent. Jack thought about the matter a fair bit, they were soon to leave Cactus Island no doubt, would they survive to make it to the other side of Paradise? They had barely survived Desertia after all, and with how insane their crew was as a whole, who knew if they'd all make it out alive? Still... Jack looked at Brycen and thought for a few moments more as he recalled the resolve and almost unique courage a few moments ago, the strength he had for forging on after giving a perfect life like this up- it was something that Jack admired admittedly, "No- I think you're wrong- oh so wrong. Paradise is int he eye of the beholder you see, and quite frankly, theres nothing about this life that I'd want to change" the man said with a small fleeting smile before looking again to Brycen for his final thoughts on the matter and any remarks he might have had for Lbira as they continued the long tunnel of color and light. |

And so the two slowly walked down the beach, away from their partners and towards… Hopefully the real world. There was still that small amount of scepticism in the doctor, due to the rather fast conditioning rate of these lands, but he knew deep down in his heart that the real world was out there, and not in here. His mind had been flooded with false memories within seconds of arriving here, but after their journey around the Forbidden Temple, he doubted that he could truly find this place to be real, unless he managed to forget all of that. He sighed to himself. Leaving such a magnificent place as this did seem a little bit crazy in his eyes, but this was captain’s orders. Plus, he had that little bit of pirate in him, even if he liked being the good guy. A true pirate, was one who led a life of freedom, and not one of confinement within the rules and boundaries. If he’d ever seen a place which screamed “not freedom”, it was that place, even if it did seem kind of nice. He wiped his eyes again, trying not to cry. He wasn’t going to be weak, nuh-uh. “My world is literally falling apart, heh” The doctor mused to himself, trying to be his own distraction to prevent him from thinking too much about what was going on, as he watched the world around them begin to shatter. A small amount of relief was present as he continued walking, thankful that Jack had been right and that they weren’t making a fool out of themselves. He supposed that it meant that everything he’d seen here hadn’t been truly real, which took a bit of weight off of his shoulders, as he knew that he wasn’t actually leaving the real Florence behind, and just an illusion. Yeah, just an illusion, and nothing more… And suddenly everything fell to the ground, everything around them suddenly gone. Brycen didn’t dare turn around to find out if the world behind them remained, not wanting to turn around at all. He’d set himself a goal right? He couldn’t turn around now, for that to him would be like going back on the goal. He supposed that made little sense seeing as this was a different land to which he made it in, but… He didn’t need to turn and see her again, he already had the image of her burned into his memory, and that wasn’t changing. He still wasn’t used to the void though, and felt kind of uncomfortable walking around in it. He couldn’t tell what was floor and what was wall, and what was air, and it was weird. To him, with no real light, he didn’t understand how he could still make out Jack, but he could and that was at least in some ways kind of comforting. They’d been fine last time they were here, and so he had faith they wouldn’t suddenly appear on top of a volcano or something, and just happen to fall in, totally not because the owner of this place didn’t like them now they’d smashed his place up. “I wouldn’t be at all surprised, but hey, while we wait we can find… Maybe now’s not the time” He chuckled to himself, thinking about what he was about to say. Perhaps that’s why he’d reverted back to his old ways, or maybe it was just because they’d never left him. He shrugged, he didn’t know and neither did he need to. There was no point trying to analyse his own mind, it didn’t make any sense to begin with and sometimes it was best not knowing some things. “Trying to make us feel bad for leaving now are we? Heh… Thanks for letting us stay, the food was pretty decent I have to admit” He casually waved at the air, as the two walked along the colourful path towards the light, not averting their eyes in fear that it would disappear before they escaped. Something about Libra put him on edge, and finally he’d worked out what it was. They’d met someone with a similar name before, and it worried him. But… This man seemed relatively harmless, trapped inside his little corner shop, only occasionally getting company and in some ways offering them a better life. Maybe he should encourage all the homeless people outside to go and have a nice cup of tea with him. But… Something still felt off. For now he decided not to say anything, partially because explaining his theory would be a bit of a pain, and partially because it was just a theory right now, even with the two sharing something rather rare. Jack then spoke about the Grandline, and how it was often known as paradise. So far, it sort of made sense to the doctor seeing as the most they’d experienced here was being sent to two rather beautiful landscapes, and having a bit of fun. Plus, he’d finally been able to say his goodbyes, and even though it wasn’t to the real Florence, it was the best he’d ever get, and maybe he’d be able to start properly moving on now. She’d once told him to live his life to the fullest, and to forget about her, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to do the latter. But… The former… He began to think about the group of misfits they were travelling with, and how it almost felt like a home… Even if it was a bit of a nightmare. “I’d say you’re right there… Sure, it’s going to be a lot more chaotic than the Blues, but… That’s fine by me. Everyone we’ve surrounded ourselves with are unique and special in their own way, and I’d much rather that than a fake world. I hate to say it, but we’re pirates, and we don’t live by any of your rules, or anyone else’s but our own. We live to be free. But thanks…” He smiled. “Sure it was a pain… But that was one hell of an adventure, and I think I finally got something off my back” And with that, he continued on his path with Jack, towards the real world. He had no idea how long had passed, or what adventures they’d missed, but he was happy to finally be back, a new man. He’d set himself a goal, and he couldn’t accomplish that in the dream world could he? He’d definitely make sure to tell every beautiful lady there was, just how attractive they really were! |

Jack looked over to Brycen with a nod of approval to his words. As the two men continued to walk, they would notice the illuminating tunnel of light around them start to slowly change. The sounds of Jack's footsteps on the bright and colorful floor began to grow less like walking on glass almost and more hollow, with a few sounds of creaking here and there as the continued to walk along. The two men would be able to feel something like a light breeze brushing against their faces as they walked along, warm and almost tropical like a summer's day. The tunnel of light slowly began to dim and grow darker as the two men continued to walk along. Jack couldn't help but look over his shoulder as he kept walking, far behind the two men he swore he could see a gentle light almost like the campfire that the two had stumbled across when they first entered this madhouse. Still, the pirate paid it no mind after a while, he had a sinking feeling that for better or worse, they would be seeing Libra and this strange world again soon enough- there were still so many questions surrounding the figure and his 'prisoners' that were left unanswered... Still, for once, the pirate was fine with just leaving prematurely and getting out of there, he had his crew waiting for him after all! The blond smiled a tad as the two men finally reached the end of the hallway. The tunnel of light had faded away, the music gone, and the mystery lodge departed. The two men would step out into the morning light of Velvet Tip, greeted by the usual coming and going of workers and locals going about their business. Nobody paid the two men any mind as they emerged from the boarded up old shop- for it had been abandoned for nearly twenty years now. Indeed, despite Jack and Brycen asking who they could about the strange shop they had just exited, nobody seemed to have the faintest idea what they were talking about. The old man who had lived there had been killed in when the city was decimated by the renown pirate Leander Hastings, the shop he had owned fallen into ruin- the place had been seemingly boarded up ever since. Jack, looking back at the old lodge, noticed that, indeed, the door to the place was locked up tight and shut behind them, with no sign that the two men had entered it nor had ever been opened in the first place. It was a puzzling discovery, one which nagged at the pirate's mind. Yet, for once at least, Jack was fine with that, Libra may have been an eccentric man, but there were still some words which the young blond could believe in. "Aye, there it is then, the mystery of that old lodge..." the pirate said with a nod before looking back to Brycen and promptly going on his way back to the docks where their ship was located. It was time to set sail. |

Thank you for your patience. Your storyline has been reviewed.
Over all this was a great thread. While a little bit slow at times as Macho and Sheep both had a tendency to drag things out, it was trippy, well written and emotional. It's a shame Kiztoria's writer had to drop out due to real life constraints but that's the way the cookie crumbles. For the record I hope you never explain the alternate dimension. The grandline is supposed to have strange, unexplained mysteries such as unassuming shops that lead to magical dimensions. Rare Find
