Jollywood

• • •

A mecca of entertainers and showmen, the Island of Jollywood emulates their flair for the dramatic. Jollywood is the island bathed in neon lights, littered with state-of-the-art buildings of recreational, commercial and residential purpose, as well as tributes to famous stars – be they actors, musicians, or even notorious socialites – both past and present. If you put a famous person in a room full of people, their eyes and ears will naturally gravitates towards him or her. If you put a famous person in a room full of famous people, it becomes an absolute spectacle. This, essentially, is the prevalent theme of Jollywood. If you’re a performer of any renown, Jollywood possesses an indelible magnetism, and if you’re simply an aspiring performer who craves renown, Jollywood is the holy grail. No entertainer in this world has made it until they’ve made it in Jollywood, as the cliché goes.

In large part, Jollywood reflects its thespian inhabitants in terms of beauty. It is a scenic marvel, containing some of the most beautiful and lively sights in the world, both naturalistic and urban. In truth, Jollywood was once simply an island of forest, but it was a forest so lush, and with such a diverse quantity of flora and fauna that some would say that it rivaled the Boin Archipelago in terms of sheer beauty and wonder. Nowadays, however, it has been forever changed by a common theme of celebrity: self-indulgence.

Self-indulgence has turned mass pockets of beautiful nature into man-made beacons of hero-worship. Glistening commercial centers of glass, luxurious theaters and immaculately marbled concert-halls litter the place in excess. Life-size and – as is more often the case – larger than life statuettes of reputable icons are everywhere, posed in stances of imagined self-importance. Most notable, however, is the lights – neon orbs glow in almost every place imaginable, ensuring that Jollywood is forever illuminated.

With all that said, the energy that emanates from Jollywood is one of intense joy and wonder distilled. Established celebrities are constantly sighted, strategically maintaining their profiles, while promising young talents do their best to make their mark. And while Jollywood is often described as the living place of celebrities and celebrities in training, tourists also make their way here, desperately hoping to catch sightings of their favorite celebrities. This all means that Jollywood is incredibly loud, mired in the adoring yells and ecstatic screams of fans, interspersed with famous tunes played by rock bands and pop idols.

Climate

Jollywood – no matter what the season – has only one temperature: comfortable. Whether it leans towards cool or warm is often indistinguishable – Jollywood’s weather is situated at the perfect sweet-spot where it is both sundress weather and sweater weather all at once. This is perhaps quite useful for the many entertainers here who also serve as fashionistas and style role-models.

Locations

The scenic island of Jollywood is crescent shaped with the famed Jollywood Sign spelling out the name of the island situated in the middle of the island high upon the tallest mound hill. Beneath it is the huge Jollywood Bowl, a giant open air amphitheater where only the greatest and best acts perform, which extends onto the Jollywood Bay, a huge seawater lagoon with calm waters and sunny beaches. The lagoon is usually filled with neon-lit advertisement boats, pleasure barges or people engaging in water sports such as jet skiing, canoeing etc. There is a show on every night at the bowl which can be heard and seen across the bay due to the impressive sound system and huge den den visual screens.

The City of Jollywood covers much of the island around the bay with modern clean buildings covered in advertisements and bright lights which beam even through the day. The city is a major tourist attraction due to the number of memorable landmarks featured in movies sold across the seas and the numerous appearances of famous celebrities. It also doubles as the set for nearly every film ever made in the world, with varying man-made landscapes down each street to try and capture different scenes and locations. Its not too difficult to sneak in a cameo role on the latest blockbuster film with the number of cameras rolling at anyone time.

The Walk of Fame is by far the most popular landmark, a long mainstreet that winds its way from one end of the city to the other and features the names of many famous individuals on golden stars embedded in the ground. Movie stars, song artists, marines, bounty hunters and even powerful pirates have their names glorified along the walk. Nearly as popular is the Mink Theater, a distinctive cinema located along the walk of fame which is staffed entirely by Minks. Any movie destined for greatness has its opening night here.

Towards the western tip of the crescent are numerous tall buildings belonging to the major record labels of the One Piece world, the most distinctive is the tall circular building with a spire on top belonging to Garamond Records, a relatively new company but the most dominant brand. The indirect owner of the company is also the individual who lays claim to the entire island of Jollywood - the Yonkou Black Musician. Garamond Records picks and chooses the best films being produced to make the most beli possible.

On the eastern end of the crescent island, the buildings become more sparse and the land less flat. This is where the rich and famous live in their mansions, the region known as Bubbly Hills due to the bubblelights that float up into the air at night to keep everything well lit for the residents. Its not unusual for at least half the mansions to be partying on any given evening, with the most popular party always at the Bunny Heart Mansion, famed for its risque hosts and ownership of BH Weekly magazine.

Faction Influence
Jollywood, being the quintessential island of thespians and performance art, is a favored island of the Yonkou Black Musician. While the Yonkou is not explicitly known to have made any overt public appearances, it is said that the Black Musician is keenly invested in the latest feats of artistry to have derived from the hub of talent. Those who seek to cause undue havoc in Jollywood will undoubtedly have the Musician's wroth to deal with.
