I had an idea for a custom profession: I was wondering if I could get some feedback on how to balance it or if it would just be so overpowered it wouldn't work. Copycat- Copycats spend their whole lives training their bodies in every way they can, but the one feature that stands out is their keen eyes. Able to see the way another person moves or the way their muscles contract allows the Copycat to understand how they perform their action and, if their body is in the same condition, repeat the action. Copycats gain the ability to see and predict what an enemy will do based upon their bodily actions. Primary Copycats can even go so far as to recreate their opponents actions should they be in the same condition Secondary Copycats can only make 1 technique utilizing their Copycat abilities, "Perceive", Primary Copycats can make a 2nd technique "Replicate". Perceive is automatically maximum natural rank that the character can make, and is able to tell the Copycat information about an opponent's technique, however some moves are beyond their comprehension. This can be calculated as half the Copycat's "Perceive" rank vs the desired enemy technique, should the Copycat's "Perceive" Stat be above the opposing rank, they understand how the move works and can dodge it with that knowledge. If the Copycat is a Primary Copycat, they can make a technique called "Replicate" which is automatically maximum natural rank that the character can make. The Copycat must successfully use "Perceive" on a technique in order to be able to "Replicate" it, but on successful use of both techniques, the Copycat essentially re-creates the observed technique, but applying their own stats when calculating damage and Action Economy. Obviously if a 50 STR character uses a rank 4 "Power Punch" technique, a 15 STR Copycat won't deal the same amount of damage. Traits: A few traits that a Copycat can take are; Trained Perception: A copycat who takes this trait treats their Perceive technique as its actual rank instead of half. Perfect Replication: A copycat who takes this trait treats their Replicate technique as double its normal rank for the purpose of damage calculation and action economy use only, this cannot be used to Replicate higher ranked techniques. Note: This effect only applies to the Copycat's primary bonus, and thus is unable to be taken by secondary Copycats A few things to note about the Copycat, the skills they display are purely martial, there is no 'devil fruit magic' or 'haki enhancment' involved here. Thus, they cannot duplicate the effects of powers they don't have access to, for example an untrained Copycat cannot use "Rokushiki" techniques even if they're seen and understood. This is due to Rokushiki techniques being performed differently for each person, the same goes with Devil Fruits and Haki, as each person's haki manifests differently. |

Besides this being far more like a trait than a profession, no. Being able to copy techniques can essentially give you access to an entire character sheet of techniques for the price of only 2 on your own sheet, which according to this would be free. Even if they weren't, it still provides far too great a benefit. |
