Devil Fruit

Devil Fruit Name: Yugami Yugami no Mi
Devil Fruit Type: Paramecia
Devil Fruit Ability: The eater of this fruit gains the ability to, on touch, liquify material objects into mutable mass; able to change the shape of the material as well as its density, weight, color, smell, elasticity, etc. Ordinary mass glows bright blue from its center, with a thick black outline around the edges. Despite being a half-liquid substance it swerves and flickers in a similar way to a dying flame.

This is sort of my introduction thread too, I'm new to the site so...

Hi! To anyone who may be reading this n.n

I think this is the right place for reservations and submitting custom fruits...

Anyway here is my custom fruit, before I get to the questions part I should probably answer a few questions or concerns that may come up about the fruit.

Q1: Why is there "Reservation" in the thread title?

That is because I already believe my fruit will be a much higher tier than starting tier, if it gets accepted. Comparing it with other Paramecia fruits I figured it is likely a tier one devil fruit, but mostly because of its versatility and potential.

Q2: Does the ability allow you to liquify other living creatures, or other peoples characters.

Nope, the ability to convert things into mass is for materials only and therefore cannot effect people in such a direct way.

Q3: "On touch", to what extent?

Anything the character is touching and anything what they are touching may be connected to, within reason of course. Distances must be considered, and for the most part this is just common sense and fair judgement much like many other devil fruits.

Q4: Is the effects permanent even after returning the material to its normal state?

Yes, unless set on a timer or reverted back to how the material previously was. Abnormal properties would also be removed if it came into contact with seastone, etc.

Q5: Could you replicate the properties of seastone with this?

No, it is a devil fruit so therefore cannot mimic anti-devil fruit properties/materials.

Q6: Couldn't this be used to replicate other devil fruit abilities such as superheated weapons, etc?

In theory, yes, using this ability I could make a weapon I'm using become superheated by changing its temperature and give it the same fire-hot effect of someone with the Mera Mera no Mi (just an example). However, unlike the Mera Mera no Mi there wouldn't be anything preventing me from getting third degree burns from the effect I just added to the material. Additionally I would have to be in contact with the material to superheat it. So yes, I could do it, but it would just be a pretty stupid idea.

Q7: You can change it's shape, can you change it's size?

No, the amount of mass liquified is the amount that can be worked with so changing the size of something is impossible without adding more mass from something else.

Q8: If you can change the density, color of materials etc... couldn't you make precious materials such as gold out of something as simple as stone?

No, only something that looked like gold. With this ability I could change a stone to feel as metalic as gold, to be the same color and be just as shiny as gold and potentially have the same density as gold, but it would still just be stone in element. The best way to think about it is gold and fools gold, they look and can feel the same but they are different elements. The same applies for turning iron into "steel", etc.

Q9: Using this ability couldn't you just create... pretty much anything?

The limit of the ability is how far the imagination can be streched, and how much knowledge the character has of the thing they wish to create. A character couldn't make a building using this ability if they have never constructed a similar one without it before, well they could in theory... but it would probably collapse because they lack the knowledge of what a real structure needs to keep it standing. The same applies for creating weapons using the ability, and pretty much everything else. Bottom line is: if the character wouldn't know how to make what they wanted without the ability, then they would only end up with a cheap imitation of it.

I think that is everything included, but any further questions can be asked and will be answered. Now I have my own questions.

Q1: If my fruit gets approved, I obviously won't have enough traits for it on my fresh new character. When fruits are reserved for new characters can they already be eaten IC? I understand they wouldn't have access to the fruits abilities yet, and this would mean the character couldn't swim because they have still technically eaten the fruit (kind of like the Yomi Yomi no Mi).

Q2: If they can be considered eaten, just without access to the fruits abilities, am I allowed access to the exclusively cosmetic abilities of the fruit? What I mean by this is, could I turn a sword I'm holding into the "liquified mass" but without changing any of its shape or properties?

Essentially I'm just asking if I can lose my ability to swim from the get-go for access to the devil fruit cosmetics.

Thanks for taking the time to read x3

Hello, welcome to the board! You're obviously pretty motivated already so I hate to burst bubbles like this but sadly your devil fruit has high chances of not being acceptable.

First things first: the proper devil fruit submission topic is found here and you'll find some basic guidelines on fruit creation and whatnot. Your fruit likely falls under the powerproducer aspect and that's why it wouldn't be acceptable. Fruit's name already gives it away (strain, deformation, distortion, bend) so it's more of a comic superpower than a thematic devil fruit.

That and the fact that it can do "everything limited by your imagination" means that even if you somehow produce an acceptable theme for a fruit, it won't be available to players for balance reasons as many others.

That sidetracking aside, I'm not the resident expert on df's anyway, as for your questions:

A1: When fruits are reserved they are unavailable until you have he certain amount of traits needed for them but they are tied to your account so no one else can take them unless you specifically forfeit the rights to it. Typically the scenario you describe is not done but if you manage to actually get a fruit approved, who knows what some admin might say about this since it's not really like it's breaking the system or anything.

A2: This is a clear no however, you can't get any fruit abilities, even cosmetic, until you have the proper amount of traits for it's use.

Thanks for the feedback! ^^

I wrote this all whilst half-asleep (am actually still half-asleep after just getting back from college), so sorry for any lack of grammar or brain functions I may or may not be missing.

When I said "The limit of the ability is how far the imagination can be streched" I just meant what sorts of things could be made with it rather than the power of the fruit itself or how much of the mass could be created. And because of the nature of the fruit Smith/Carpenter/Inventor professions are basically a neccessity to create anything makeshift to be viable or usable at all in battle.

As for the 'theme' of the fruit, it's theme is transmutation... like alchemy from FullMetal Alchemist (was actually the inspiration for the fruit). I called it the "Yugami Yugami no Mi" because of the warped and distorted nature of the mass it creates. A name is just a name though, I wouldn't mind having the name changed.

Thanks for answering my questions and linking the submission thread, I'll go post there now n.n

Problem is, OPRP doesn't allow Fruits that allows you to transform stuff into other stuff that is "limited by your imagination", A.K.A Green Lantern-ish, because that will eventually prove to be overpowered against other OCs.

So, unfortunately, even if you do post it in Fruits Ahoy, I doubt it's going to get itself accepted.

Welcome to the board, though. ^^

The concept for the proposed fruit isn't really in OPRP styling (or One Piece styling for that matter. I can't see Oda doing anything like this). Even if it were to be approved, the grandness of its capabilities place it firmly in T0 category, aka the strongest tier fruits that are NPC-only.

I encourage that you continue to think up custom devil fruit ideas, but plore you to abandon any ideas that have too large a reach or scope and focus your idea into a more specific theme. For examples on some approved custom devil fruits, refer to the following topic: http://s1.zetaboards.com/One_Piece_RP/topic/3022532/1/#new
