Prosthetics?; of the non-cyborg kind

I've had this idea for a char in my head for a while and it's been bugging me more and more lately. If a char loses a limb, would it possible to buy a basic prosthetic to function as said limb?

If so, what durability could it have? I don't need any fancy gadgets or something on it, just a functional hand or leg would be nice and solve me a head ache.

If not, why?

Prosthetic have been a yes or no based on like three different blues. I've never heard a solid answer given, but the one that I was given by Speak ages ago when I first asked was that:

A.) They were allowed, costing as much as normal items/weapons would for their chosen material tier.

B.) They would not have your stats. Meaning they would have standard "Average Human" stats, like 5 str/speed/etc. Meaning they're basically useless for use in combat- but would help with standard RP. So you'd kinda be like Gildarts, always using your non-prosthetic for combat, since they'd just get shattered if you didn't.

C.) You're better off just spending 1 trait for basic cyborg, and getting some iron limbs. Yes they're then only Tier I Material, but they're cheap, not special, have your stats, and Tier I material is still better then a tierless body that everyone has.

...Right, so for a more productive answer, no, full functionality for prosthetic limbs without trait investment isn't a thing anymore. They were approved a grand total of once for a whole hell of a lot of money, then after staff discussion, it was unanimous that free access would no longer be given, as it detracted too much from cyborg.

Now, in terms of what you can have without trait investment, your options really aren't too bad. Knee-down legs can be done fairly simply, to the point that it really wouldn't affect your character too much. Arms below the elbow would function something like a twist of the stump causing them to go back and forth between a loose or a squeeze mode. Knee-up legs and elbow-up arms are a bit trickier, but if you want a general idea of how they would work, I would look into how models of them worked in the late 1800s or so.

Crocodile hook hands, Morgan axe arms, and Shiki sword legs wouldn't have any trait cost either.

I hope that helps clear things up.

Yeah I figured cyborg would solve all of this and that was kind of a given but it didn't fit the rp ideal I wanted for the char. I'd essentially be spending a trait on something I need for something I will never get the use out of the way I should. If that makes any sense.

Any who, solutions have been offered for my question, thanks.

Axe arm and Sword Legs wouldn't require Funky Body?
What?

Damn Son

This reminds me of when King Arthur, Donkey Kong, and a group of otter-llama hybrids held an intervention to tell me I needed to stop taking LSD.

They were so supportive at the time, but since quitting I haven't seen them even once.

They would not require trait investment. Funky body is more of a general trait version of mad scientist, so it's better to think of it in those terms.

Even untiered, you'd pay a small fee along the lines of an r4-8 invention.

Well, for a basic hand, you can have something where the character flexes his/her bicep and this controls the hand, caising it to open or close. However, another methode, depending on how much arm they have left below the elbow, they can attach wires to the muscles, it would be rudimentary but in basic format, it could work.

As per a leg, that is pretty simple, if it is a below knee amputation, you can get away with a basic peg leg. Plus, you can mod it to be a place where you hide stuff in, like rum, tools, or even a gun. It the amputation is above the knee... this is where things get a bit more complicated.
