Renji sat at the prow of the majestic ship, feeling the breeze ruffle through his hair and push it behind him, causing it to stream behind him like a flag announcing his arrival. Or rather he would have loved to think of things like that, the unfortunate truth though was that the ‘majestic vessel’ was in fact a rather poorly maintained cargo vessel, the breeze was what he assumed to be the beginnings of a storm and the sun was fairly nonexistent. What few weak rays broke through the wall of angry grey clouds hit the water and disappeared into its depths, not a single one hitting the single cargo vessel slowly plodding its way towards the large red bulk of Rust Pit island.

The rest of the crew moved around the deck with practised ease, working various ropes on the sailing ship and moving crates and barrels to prepare for unloading, until a shout came from the crow’s nest heralding the coming of a marine boat. And sure enough there it was, a marine ship looking considerably more armed than their own ploughing through the water towards them, a ram sticking out from its front, he was sure that if he looked closer he’d even be able to see the cannons aiming towards them. So the rumours of the marine patrols had been true, a pirate would be very hard pressed to get through it, but luckily Renji had none of those worries. His worry though was that the heavy marine presence surrounding the island would give him very little to do while he was there, if pirates or other miscreants couldn’t get through then how was he supposed to entertain himself.

As the marine vessel pulled itself up to the starboard side of their own considerably worse armed cargo vessel, Renji couldn’t help but notice the captain of his own ship getting in quite a state as he gathered up the necessary papers that allowed them past, dropping them all over the deck in his attempts to sort them faster than he was capable. Renji crouched down next to the captain and began picking up the papers, watching the captains surprised face before whispering to him, “Don’t worry, everything here’s in order, and if they decide to pick a fight then remember, size isn’t everything” He whispered, winking at the captain before handing him the papers and turning away to ensure the captain saw the rather large sword strapped to his back.

He could imagine the applause now if anyone had heard him there, or if this was some sort of play or entertainment, he’d just pulled off a line like that with near perfection then walked away like a badass, he had a feeling that despite the incredibly obvious pathetic fallacy this was going to be one hell of a good day.

The marines did a customary sweep of the ship to ensure nothing illegal was stowed on board, taking the documents from the captain and scanning through them, seeing they looked right and not bothering to examine further than they felt their pay would require. Upon seeing Renji though they stopped, he wasn’t registered to the ship and so had to pull out his own identification papers as well as papers he’d acquired on Salt island that allowed him to be here. On the papers it simply stated that he was here to look for pirates and hand them in to the appropriate authorities which caused a snigger from the marines. One particular marine stood out as he whispered to a comrade “He’ll find nothing worth hunting here, he’ll be back out here in a week looking to leave.” Unfortunately for him though Renji heard and responded in kind, “well I’d hope there wasn’t, because then that’d mean that someone wasn’t doing their job properly, and i’d hate to be in that someone’s boots.

Of course it earned him a few mean looks, and the anger of a certain marine, but they let him past, i mean he had the appropriate papers, but what happened to him on the island wasn't their problem.

The cargo vessel sailed on and the marine vessel faded into the distance, the crew worked on at their job and the rather bored Renji once again took his place at the bow of the ship, sitting cross legged on it and watching the world go by. All in all, it was quite a boring entrance to a new island, an island that he was only really at while he waited for his log pose to reset so that he could go somewhere interesting. He didn't know much about any islands in the grand line but he figured if this one had such a tight marine guard around it there wouldn't be many pirates here that he could hunt. Maybe at least he could find some decent food or something to pass the time while he was there. If worst came to worst he could just practice his sword skills.

Seemed boring though, but he’d just endure it, wasn't like every island he visited would be an action packed wonder with lots of explosions, fighting and other exciting stuff happening every two seconds. Well actually, come to think of it, not a single island that he had visited had been like that. Even Salt island had been disappointing, he’d scared off those thugs without even a single attack from either side, and then on the way to get a drink with the two people he’d saved he had gotten lost and taken a wrong turn. After trying and failing to find them he’d decided to move along, the island didn't exactly hold much for him anyway, it wasn't particularly fun to be in and he’d started feeling slightly sick since he’d arrived there. Maybe it was the pure amount of salt or maybe it’s Maybeline but the place just didn't really agree with him.

And so that was how he’d gotten here, to the sea just before Rust Pit island, not that he figured this place was going to be much better. Maybe he’d at least get some of that rare metal that he’d heard of, it’d be good to replace that relic that he carried on his back with something slightly newer and stronger.

Renji had landed in a fairly bustling little town by the docks of the island. Cango Village, with barely 100 houses and even fewer stores. But despite its apparent lack of anything, decorations and such were completely absent from the bare buildings and only a few differently shaped ones stood out, the people there did not look at be in any such bad place. Their clothes weren't anything special, but none appeared gaunt and even fewer sickly. The crew of the Cargo ship had already begun talking merrily with a few of the local fishermen and some others.

There was only one inn in town, going by the name Rast Stop, and there was a single store somewhere in the streets that sold mostly general goods and food. Though, there was also a few warehouses by the docks, and another large building adorned with a large icon appearing to be a red feathered wing. And, by the same building, was a tram station.

It looked like a typical small village. Almost a seaside resort, well that would be implying that it had a decent beach (which it didn't) and that anything there looked even remotely like a seaside resort. It was a normal town, but Renji's excitement-starved brain made his mind instantly go to other ideas in order to entertain himself.

He stood at the edge of the gangplank, a step away from actually making it onto the island, taking it all in before he actually made that first leap onto dry land. The houses seemed quite bare, none of the usual small personal touches that one might expect to see, although that could just be that all personal effects were used indoors rather than out, he couldn't be sure unless he saw the inside of one. Most to Renji's relatively unimpressed eye appeared to be almost the same building copy-pasted by some omnipresent homework cheating godlike entity, only a few actually standing out as having even a slight variation from what design seemed to be the norm in this village. Why he always ended up in villages like this he would never know, always so uniform and monotonous, exactly the kind of thing that he didn't like, he liked a bit of excitement. Villages like this were also usually not particularly good places for someone in his line of work, there was likely to be absolutely nothing here that would be of even slight interest to someone who was in the job of hunting bounties, there was nothing here that would attract pirates or wrongdoers so the place was likely to be barren in that respect. It was a shame, he hadn't actually had a chance in quite a while to use his old blade, not that he enjoyed fighting and hurting people especially it was more just that events like finding pirates tended to bring a spark of excitement into his life and right now he was severely lacking in the excitement area.

Oh well, it was a village and he was here now, there was no going back anyway, the workers from the cargo ship had already began unloading their gear, or rather attempting to get past Renji on the gangplank in order to unload their wares. Unfortunately enough for the bored bounty hunter one worker got a little to annoyed by Renji's position and so decided to change it for him, by nudging him with the end of a box causing him to fall off of the gangplank and into the water.

He didn't even have time to realise he was falling before he'd hit the water, the iron of his pauldron and sword dragging him down into the depths of the ocean as he struggled in panic wondering why no one had noticed and come to try and help him. He could swim, just he was to busy panicking for that thought to actually come into his head. He could feel the air slowly leaving his lungs, he couldn't hold what little breath he had for that much longer, he needed to find a way to the surface. Limbs flailing like streamers in the wind he felt his foot connect against something solid, hoping for it to be land or something he could stand on at least he placed his other foot on it. And stood up in the chest height water he'd been flailing about in like a baby for the past minute or so.

Quick, damage control time. First step, look around and hope no one noticed.....Well it was kind of obvious people had noticed considering the fact that the fisherman and ships crew were rolling around on the floor several metres from the near-drowned bounty hunter holding their sides and crying with laughter at what they'd seen. Renji's hair was soaked through by his near death experience and gave him the appearance of a wet dog, as if the fact he'd almost drowned in water high as his chest wasn't bad enough already. You can telll it's bad when nearby people are laughing...you can tlel it's really bad when other people from other ships have come over, attracted by all of the laughing, been told what's happened and have began laughing themselves....it was that bad. If he were a man prone to anger he might have slaughtered every person there, but instead he was already trying to formulate a plan to get back at them. Especially the large man with tears streaming down his face who had been the one to push him in to begin with. Pulling himself quickly out of the water he shook his glorious mane wet dog hair and assessed the situation. First pulling a vial of strange chemicals out of his belt before replacing them having quickly realised they wouldn't work here. He'd amassed quite a collection of weird objects on his travels and one could come in useful right here. A beanie baby was the next to leave his belt, and while omgitssocuteandadorableiloveitforever it wasn't quite useful in this situation and as such was replaced within his belt. The third and final item to appear was a tone dial, causing a mischievous grin to light up Renji's face as he remembered just what exactly was on said tone dial.

Renji held it in the direction of the still laughing dock workers, it almost seemed as if the number of people laughing had doubled simply while he'd been watching his belt. He could almost imagine the evil demonic laugh that he should give at this moment but couldn't, instead simply activating the tone dial. Upon activation the most horrific sounds imaginable by the twisted mind that writes this character were made by the device (my mind's pretty twisted) the horrific sounds instantly causing every dock workers tears of joy to turn into tears of sadness and fear as the sounds reached their ears and their mood changed quicker than most would think possible.

Renji's mischievous grin turned into open laughter, not of the evil kind as one would expect but rather a good hearty laugh as if he'd just heard a particularly good joke. The music had effected him a little sure, but the looks on all of the workers faces was priceless, each of them now fleeing as fast as they could from him and the terrible sounds contained within his tone dial. It was quite an uplifting scene to see people who had been mocking him turned away so easily, he felt as if he may have ever so slightly won this encounter. Just a tiny weeny bit maybe.

Returning the tone dial to his belt however, he then realised he had no idea where to actually go now, he'd scared off anyone that could have told him where he could at least find an inn or some other sort of place where maybe he could stay until the next boat came along. He didn't exactly have plans to stay on this rather boring island forever, in fact he didn't have plans to stay on this rather boring island for more than a day or two if he could help it, the sooner he could leave the better. People here didn't need help, they seemed well enough feed, they had enough to eat they had houses they weren't terrorised by pirates far as he could see so he wasn't really needed here. It was simply a matter of when would the next ship be coming along that would be able to take him, once again he had no one to ask because everyone had ran away. He still didn't regret it though, it was well worth it.

Well wander aimlessly it was, that was the conclusion that he came to and so the one he'd stick to, picking a random street and beginning to walk down it, worst comes to worst he knew he could quite simply just come back the way he'd come and he'd end up by the sea once again.

It wasn't exactly an interesting walk however, most of the buildings looked near enough identical to another, that was, until he came to the most overused type of building on this site building that he'd been looking for, an bar inn. A rust red sign proudly proclaimed it's name to be the rusty pit, not an attractive name but then he'd slept in worse most likely, it looked to be in decent repair at least. Upon entry it seemed that his earlier judgement had been right, the downstairs was functional if not the best looking inn he'd ever seen, all of the tables, chairs, stools walls and everything between being painted a rusty red colour which quite amused the young bounty hunter. No one else seemed to be in there, whether he'd scared them off or this was normal he had no clue but it suited him, it meant that there was likely to be a surplus of rooms available so he was basically guaranteed one he could get until he could arrange transport out of this rusty red hole.

One problem with being the only one in the room was that he couldn't get a drink, so of course being the initiative taker that he was he made himself one, his morales not allowing him to steal though so still placing money on the counter for if/when the owner of the...fine...establishment would come back. He chose himself a booth towards the side of the room furthest from the door and settled. The drink, like everything else, was a lovely and obviously incredibly appealing rust red colour yum yum yum let's drink a lovely helping of rusty rust water. Well obviously it wasn't rusty rust water (he hoped), it just didn't really look that appealing. And then the answer came to him in a flash, reaching once again into his pockets full of random miscellanious items gathered from weird places he brought out a single neon pink cocktail sword. It was perfect of course, because just like Bames Jond in his Renji's favourite spy books, he had just the perfect gadget for all the situations he faced, . But still, the cocktail stick was perfect. Reaching once again to behind the counter where he'd first fixed his drink he speared a predictably rust red grape and plopped it into his drink with the sword attached. Screw colour coordination, neon pink and rust red, the pink made it look slightly less like rusty rust water.

He tried to start off well, he took one tiny sip from the drink, then another, then another, then gulped the rest down and slid his fruit slice from the grape, despite his earlier misconceptions it tasted amazing. Whether that was due to the actual drink or the grape or the cocktail stick he had no clue, but he felt as if he was full to bursting with energy. As if he could run round the island twelve times in the blink of the eye and feel no worse for wear, not that he actually knew how large the island was or how to run around it this being his first time having actually set foot on the island. He almost felt as if he could run to the next island himself, across the water, and would have most likely tried it if his mind wasn't still in usual working condition despite his sudden burst of unexplainable energy.

The sun slowly lowered as Renji settled into the sleeping pallet he'd rented from the kindly old man who'd eventually appeared downstairs, he'd been slightly distressed at Renjii's occupation of his inn but after seeing nothing had been broken and he'd even paid for his drinks allowed the broadsword wielding hunter to rent a room for so long as was needed. Hopefully though that wouldn't be to long, he wasn't planning on it being to long, Renji wanted to be out of here soon as he could.

One thing he hadn't quite thoguht through though was the fact that this sudden burst of energy was infact a curse disguised as a blessing, because he could not sleep a wink at all that night, tossing turning rolling sliding and moving about on the bed in any way that was possible in his restlessness. Eventually he got chucked out by the owner for the amount of noise he made but that was irrelevant as he couldn't sleep anyway.

One night had been enough, he paid way more than he should have, he basically begged several times pleaded and offered briberies when that didn't work until he eventually found one ship that would take him away, where to he didn't care but this island had an effect on him and he didn't want to contemplate if it would get worse. That and it was likely if he stayed all the workers and townspeopel he'd humiliated would try and get some form of revenge, but that was a minor thought in his mind, his mind being taken up with the idea that this island had inflicted some sort of curse on him or something that had made him so energetic and unable to sleep or do anything normally.

Unfortunately the island curse struck again, he reached the agreed meeting point with the captain who'd agreed to take him away from the blasted place, and the captain wasn't there. He went to check the boat, and the boat, along with the money he'd given the captain, was gone. Poof. The island curse struck again, and now he was stranded until he could find a boat that would actually take him away this time, he'd be more careful in the future but he'd just have to wait till someone came along that could take him before the (completely made up in his head) island curse became worse.
