The world--or what they thought was the world--shifted, truly showing what happened. The rush of colors immediately filled the beast king's senses, and he couldn't help but find himself struggling against it. He did his best not to move, however, unlike the other two, instead opting to stand still, so that he would not be overcome by it all. It was mesmerizing and terrible at the same time. Not because he was so overwhelmed by what was going on around him, but because he, in fact, found himself seeing things much more clearly; he had been right. He had not made the incorrect choice. His initial judgments had been very nearly spot on, though he had been taken as a fool just like his students; in truth, his 'strong will' had nothing to do with anything. Its existence--or lack thereof--did nothing to resist the illusion that was just as immersive and frightening as he had anticipated. Probably more. "Something...is very wrong," Kamina stated in a quiet breath, his eyes fixing on the reality that had shaped--and returned--to them. It wasn't the fact that they had been in such a deeply-rooted illusion this entire time. Merely, that something just felt off. His eyes narrowed as his gaze met those of the other two, his mind racing. In fact, he had been thinking the same thing. Where was Brier, if none of that was really? And, just as that thought crept into his mind, he felt at that moment that the sense of wrongness had increased. Kamina's eyes shifted then, his senses on high alert, and his gaze immediately following the others to see the man that they all wondered about. Near that, he could see the line of trees blown apart by the blast the beast king himself had fired. "...Brier," he stated, his voice clearly concerned, despite what he had said earlier. They were friends. Perhaps far closer than business partners of such two different worlds should have been. And Kamina did catch him. He had rushed forward, his will intent, and any warning that should have kept him from rushing so quickly towards something that could have easily just been yet another illusion was entirely ignored. His right arm moved, outstretched, scooping up the man just as easily as a father scooping up a child, even if the man's greater size made it much harder. And at that moment, Kamina knew. He could tell by the way the other man breathed. He could smell traces of alcohol--perhaps, though it was clearly mixed with something incredibly potent--,and could almost feel the coldness that was beginning to settle in his body. The man smell of death. Kamina had learned this smell through his travels quite well, yet he could never get used to it. It always left a pang in his heart when he smelled it, followed by a dull throb of pain that always stayed with him. Once again, he had failed to save someone close to him. He had failed because he was simply not strong enough. He allowed the man to speak with no interruption. Though Brier had spoken of someone who had intended to take his life, Kamina did not feel that this was relevant. Kamina had made many enemies in his travels. Kamina knew that his removal would allow a great many to operate without fear of his wrath or potential to one day become strong enough to unseat them. The New World, he said? Kamina knew of one such individual that could--he knew--send something powerful to assassinate him. But then, it did not seem like that person's M.O. Asparte was cool and calculating, that much was true. He was entirely willing to sacrifice subordinates in order to keep his information secret. And Kamina was aware someone like him would be watching. He was aware that he would not allow something so important--which Kamina had discovered at a glance--to fall into the hands of someone who could very realistically become a threat. But he was also arrogant and overly curious. He had decided that the beast king could be dealt with no matter what, and that he wanted to see just how far he could go. It didn't seem like him to change his mind so quickly, though, truthfully, Kamina knew very little about him. He would, however, regardless, find who caused this and take his revenge. Right now, Kamina only cared to hear the ex marine's final words. He had embraced them just as he was embracing the man's dying body, and he accepted the flask as it was handed to him, feeling the weight behind it; both sentimental and real. And then he was gone. His last words were all geared towards saving others. He asked nothing for himself. He only cared about their intentions, and their survival. Kamina laid his body down, directing all his senses towards it, and fixing a stare in every direction, daring any of the creatures that may have been watching or nearby to try and claim it. And then the lion man moved, with Kamina right behind him. He knew, right then, that he needed to see the same thing; he needed to see the beast that had claimed the life of his lost friend. And once he got there, he took in the ape-like appearance of the beast, his eyes upturned, and his mind racing. His anger was impossible to fathom behind those blue-green eyes, but, clear, it burned with the flaming intensity of hell itself. Kamina gritted his teeth. "...We're going. I'll contact the ship, which will pick us all up. I'm going to go retrieve Brier's body, and make sure that it is preserved so that it can be given a proper burial at his home island. Leo...what do you plan to do? You can't stay here, obviously. But I don't think--given your condition--that you can return to the wilds of your home island so easily," Kamina said, sadness mixing with his normally calm and carefree voice. "...And with that, I am sorry. I am so sorry. I have imposed this curse on you, when it was never really needed. Because of that, I have taken from you the most important thing you have; your true nature," Kamina said, looking tired. The strain in his eyes was of the sort that was only gained through trials and tribulation. Heartache and hardship. It was the eyes of one who had seen countless loss. And, unlike normally, he did not quickly hide it with a façade; he did not hide it at all. He was already moving, and soon he had returned with the body of the man he had deemed so very important to their survival. He didn't even speak this time, instead focusing all of his energy into mourning his loss, walking past the other two without even estranging glances. Perhaps, once he reached the beach, he would speak to them, after he made the call to his ship to pick them all up. But for now, his steps were that of a normal man; no superhuman feats of speed were necessary just yet, he thought. He needed to take a long walk. He needed to clear his head. And just like that, this terrible adventure was over. He was going to leave this island behind. If ever his other prospects wanted to contact him, he would in time. But for now? He would find a nice place on his ship to sit in silence. And as he walked, he held the canteen tightly, knowing that it would a very important treasure to him from then on out. "One day...I am going to shake the world. No one will ever be able to take anyone important from me. ...No one will stand in my way," Edited by SvenFold, Sep 18 2015, 10:46 AM.
