"Yeah, I don't think a person who's blind, deaf, thick and really bad with faces would fall for that." Remarked Tam. Kelly nodded in agreement. "Mm-hmm. Though I do appreciate the effort, trying to steal him all for yourself." She gave Maggy a light nudge with her elbow. "Same applies to you as her though. You're a perfect couple, why break it up?" Tam glared. "Kel, we've been over this. A: we're not together, and B: I'm not into girls." Kelly looked at her with an arched eyebrow, but said nothing. By this point they'd walked a good distance. Tam started to notice something. Her nose was picking up something in the air. Smoke. Strange. She could hear what sounded like a crowd up ahead as well. She looked to the others. Kelly definitely looked like she'd noticed too, and the pair locked eyes. Kelly looked pretty worried. They picked up the pace and rounded the corner. Dead ahead was the tattoo parlour. Tam hadn't realised they were so close, but that wasn't the major shock here. A large-ish crowd stood in front of it, for the smoke they'd smelt was pouring from the windows and through the roof. The building was ablaze. "RO!" Kelly yelled and sprinted for the building. "Kel, wait!" Tam yelled, but she was already shooting through the crowd. Tam followed, presuming Maggy would then follow her. Tam reached the front of the crowd just in time to see Kelly dart in through the front door. "Dumbarse, you'll get yourself killed..." Tam drew her steel pistol. Not that she'd be shooting anything, just having it in her hand was reassuring. She then darted into the building. The whole place was blazing. Like, properly enveloped by fire. Too thorough to be caused by knocking over a candle or something, but that could be worried about later. For now, there were people to get out. Presumably. "Kel! Ryoko!" No response. Tam could barely hear herself over the roaring of the flames. Moved down the hallway towards the inner part of the building to find her friends. |

“You don’t have to deny it you know” Maggy added, her tongue poked out a little to show that she was joking. She wasn’t, but they didn’t need to know that. For now all they needed to know was that she could be a good laugh. It wouldn’t be long before she had Tam to herself and they could be together, but for now she knew there were other things to sort out. She needed to have a serious face on, after all she couldn’t me messing about when they were soon going to but the demon’s health on the line, even though she would of course be fine. She did wonder what exactly happened if you killed a demon, did you then yourself become a demon? A smile crept up on her face, but she suppressed it, taking a note of the idea for later purposes. “Mhmm… The smell in the air… Nostalgic” She hadn’t noticed till now but there was a sort of… clinginess to the air, and it wasn’t a personification of her and Tam’s relationship. The smell was of course of burning, and as they continued to walk they all noticed a rather large crowd around a burning building. The assassin’s eyes widened, a gleeful smile breaking out which this time she couldn’t quite control. She was just too pumped. "WOOH! Fire!" As she stood there giddily she noticed her two companions running towards the building. She tilted her head in confusion slightly, before noticing the sign above the door. Oh. She began following the other two, breaking out into a run and easily keeping up with them. What exactly was their plan? Neither of them could go in there safely, they’d both end up getting injured and they knew that. There wasn’t that much point going in there anyway, nothing much important in there. As they got closer Maggy heard the shout of Kelly. It took her a moment to realise that she was in fact calling out to her partner, the one with slightly odd proportions who could sew pretty well, and wasn’t in fact calling out boat terms. Following the two, she noticed that the tattoo artist was already inside, and Tam for some reason followed her. “Seriously? You guys are insane. Whatever” Maggy simply followed, walking into the blazing building. The temperature inside wasn’t exactly comfortable, but she’d dealt with worse. It hadn’t been that long ago that she’d been hit almost directly with an explosive, now that had been hot. And of course, her partner in crime and emotions was certainly a lot more so. Picking up pace a little, she followed Tam along the hallway. The fire was obnoxiously loud and was beginning to actually hurt a little from the heat. She was surprised she hadn’t set on fire yet, but had no complaints. She supposed she could just keep following, and as long as nothing happened to those in front of her, theoretically she’d also be ok. Although… Wouldn’t a demon be at home in fire? Well, it didn’t matter. “COSEY ISN’T IT?” Maggy had to shout her question just to be heard, and it didn’t exactly help much, but oh well. As she moved quickly alongside Tam, she wondered why the place smelled so strongly of gas. Usually fire didn’t create that smell on its own. Perhaps this fire was intentional? Now things were really getting interesting! Her pace began to pick up, she began to realise that the smoke was getting to her lungs. The logical thing to do now was get out of there as soon as possible, but she had a feeling nobody would leave until everyone was safe. She sighed, which was hard with all the fire and smoke, coughing a little straight afterwards. Time to hurry. Seriously why did this Kelly care so much anyway? Surely this girl was replaceable anyway, not like Tam or anything. Maybe it was her tailoring skills they needed, she was technically part of their team after all. Yes, of course. They were part of a team and that’s why she needed saving! Seriously, couldn’t she just save herself? “I always have the best realisations in the most dangerous of situations. I need to do this more often” Now making good work of her long and strong legs, Maggy practically danced through the fire, moving swiftly ahead into the main area of the building, the living room. On arrival she found two familiar struggling figures. Kelly and boat lady – Row. The tattoo artist looked like she was struggling, the tailor looked completely out of it. She coughed again, this time a lot deeper and she found it a lot harder to inhale this time. The smoke was getting pretty serious, and her skin was starting to scorch. Too long and she’d take actual damage. It wasn’t like it would stop her from being the most beautiful, but it would be uncomfortable and that would get on her nerves. Crouching down next to the two she inspected them properly. There was a little blood on the unconscious girl’s head which suggested she’d caught herself when she went down. Her chest was still moving which meant she was still breathing, but with all the smoke it must have been tough. Judging by the size of the fire, it had been going on for a while, meaning she would have gone without proper oxygen too. Next she looked at Kelly, who was visibly distressed. It was clear she was trying to do something but she also seemed to be lacking oxygen and her chest movements weren’t steady. If anything she was just getting in the way and therefore getting on Maggy’s nerves. She gave an averagely strong push on her shoulder, partly to make sure she was still able to react to things, and partly to get her to move away. Maggy didn’t care too much about these people, but she knew if they weren’t safe, neither would Tam be, and they were all part of a team, which the demon wanted to remain a part of. The most logical thing to do would be to simply pick up the tailor and take her out of there, which is exactly what she began to do. Placing her arms under the girl she stood up slowly. Her had begun to spin slightly but she persevered, what could go wrong? |

Tam had almost forgotten how fast Maggy was due to all that time on the ship, but now she received a hell of a reminder as Maggy darted through to the living room. As she moved under the bead curtain she must have pulled on it a bit, as it fell down before Tam could make it through, sending up a small burst of flame. She was starting to sweat, a lot, and her hand instinctively went for the zip on her suit. Armoured though the thing may be, it was not built for high temperatures. She stamped on the curtain, creating an opening for her to get through, and darted further. She was met by Maggy and Kelly carrying Ryoko between them. Tam wanted to help, but firstly she wasn't very strong and secondly there wasn't anywhere for her to effectively grab, given that the other two had an arm each. Regardless, she moved past them and tried to grab Ryoko's legs, lifting them slightly and allowing for greater manoeuvrability and less damage to her feet. The trio carried the girl out of the building and got a good distance from the fire before gently putting her down, face up. "Oh fuck..." murmured Kelly as she put her ear to Ryoko's mouth. "Oh fuck, oh fuck, please don't be dead..." She listened for a second before exhaling. "Oh, thank fuck. She's breathing." She explained as she slowly stood, coughing. "A bit, anyway. C'mon, we need to get her to the hospital." Before they could make any more moves, Tam heard a bell approaching, one of those loud hand-held ones, and the crowd parted to make space for something approaching from the back. Tam's eyebrow raised upon the sight of a wooden vehicle of sorts, with four guys in yellow coats and what looked like a large hose aboard. One man was ringing the bell. Another jumped off before the vehicle stopped and asked, "Was anyone injured?" Kelly replied immediately, "Yeah! Yeah, over here!" The guy nodded and returned to the vehicle, which had slowed to a stop, and pulled two sticks linked by a large rectangle of fabric from it: a stretcher. The rest of the machine's crew seemed to be unravelling the hose, which Tam could now see was linked to a tank. It clicked; they were going to try to sort out the fire. "'Scuse me." The guy with the stretcher moved past Tam and handed it to Kelly. "Think you can carry her to the hospital?" Kelly nodded. "Sure, yeah, I have help." The man placed the stretcher on the ground and helped Kelly lift Ryoko onto it, before nodding. "We'll need to talk about this later." "Sure." He left, and Kelly grabbed one end of the stretcher and asked, "Mag, can you get the other end?" |

Maggy collapsed on the ground outside, laying on her back with her arms pointing straight outwards, her legs evenly apart like some sort of star or something. She lay there breathing heavily, the smoke pretty much bellowing out of her lungs like she were some sort of train or something. What was it with vehicle comparisons today? Her a train, the tailor girl a boat, Tam a… Never mind. As she burped out another cloud of smoke, the assassin began to sit herself up. Funny, she was meant to be killing people but she’d only done that once since getting to the island. In fact, she’d saved more people than she’d gotten to kill, which was rather irritating. She should have pulled Tam out of there and let the two love birds become crispy duck pancakes. Leave to simmer for about an hour until nice a crisp, and there, your meal is finished. Extra nice if you dip the fingers in gasoline . Wait… Gasoline? She recalled smelling something along those lines when inside the house, so perhaps that’s what warped her imagination. The idea of the fire not being accidental was rather entertaining, she liked the idea of a mystery, as long as it didn’t end up with her being blown up, breaking a leg and setting on fire. Talking of which… “FAK!” It had taken her a while to realise that not all of the smoke was coming from her insides, and in fact she had somehow managed to remain on fire since running outside with the others. As she rolled around on the grass, managing to create more fires instead of putting herself out, she couldn’t help but squeal. It wasn’t exactly very lady-like, and in fact sounded more of a joyous and childish one. Despite being in a rather dangerous situation, she couldn’t quite hold back how much she enjoyed fire. Of course, she would have preferred to not be completely enveloped in it like she was most likely about to become if she didn’t sort herself quickly, but nonetheless it was rather fun. “Look at me, I’m a star!” She rolled around a little longer with glee before realising it was actually starting to hurt, and she quickly became serious, patting down the burning spots and waving limbs around to try and put herself out. After a while of trying, she eventually managed to turn the blaze into cinders, leaving her remaining clothes glowing slightly before becoming a sort of sooty black colour. There were holes covering the whole suit. She almost felt bad seeing as their creator was currently laid on the floor just a little distance from her, but she shrugged off the feeling. She wasn’t one to feel bad, and instead was more likely to be the one causing people to feel bad. Now cooling down from her little incident, Maggy walked back towards the trio, noticing that Kelly looked rather distressed. The tailor was still out of it, but her breathing hinted at life, or undeath. Hopefully the latter, she would have loved a good zombie invasion. As they stood around, watching the unconscious body which could only remind her of paint drying, a movement caught her eye. It appeared to have caught Tam’s too, so they both watched in surprise as a cart appeared, followed by the sound of a bell. Was this their fire department? She couldn’t help but chuckle, as she suddenly burst out with a mock siren noise, and continued to obnoxiously, ignoring the uneasy looks of a few of the locals. “Oh god, that got me. I’ve not seen something so entertaining for some time.” Her chuckles pretty much erupted; she could feel her laughter at the very back of her throat and she couldn’t quite control it. A tear rolled down the side of her face and she struggled to regain control as she held her sides. “Oh god that’s fucking amazing” She continued laughing for a few more moments before she suddenly broke out into a coughing fit, her raw throat putting her back in her place (atop the throne). The firemen didn’t seem to notice her actions at all, and remained level headed and serious, asking if anyone was hurt. She was half tempted to begin complaining to them, nag them into oblivion, but decided against it, knowing she’d have a good opportunity to shout at someone later for some reason. She always found a way. As she watched them begin their work, one particular man approached them with a stretcher, asking them to carry their injured friend to the hospital whilst he presumably helped tackle the fire. A quick once over told Maggy that not only he was telling the truth, but he also looked rather good in uniform. She’d have to remember to pay the local fire station a visit and have some… words with the higher ups. Her time admiring the fireman was cut short with Kelly requesting back up in carrying her girlfriend to the hospital. She reluctantly went to help, picking up the bottom half of the stretcher whilst the tattoo artist held the top end, so that she was closer to her partners head most likely for when she awoke. “Her breathing is steadying slightly. She should be fine, a case of mild smoke poisoning at most, probably…” She was no doctor, so she couldn’t be sure of it, but she was no stranger to fire, so of course she would know a little bit of what it could do, albeit she was used to using it to smoke people out, and not usually to kill. As she helped carry the small girl, she noticed quite how light she was. Surely it would have been easier for Kelly to have hauled her along bridal style? It would have certainly been a lot more romantic, although she supposed nobody had enough strength right now to do that even with a lightweight. “Is the hospital far?” She began to wonder exactly how far they’d be going before reaching their destination. It wasn’t a struggle to carry the limp body, in fact muscle memory was helping a lot her as she’d had to do similar before, even if usually she was more… dragging the body. |

The hospital wasn't far. It took them only a few minutes and a couple of turns to reach the healing institution, Maggy and Kelly carrying the stretcher, Tam lagging behind, having holstered her weapon. It was a fairly large building, painted white, with a ramp leading up to the front entrance, a set of glass double doors. Keen to finally have something to contribute, Tam rushed forwards and pushed one of the doors open, holding it so Kelly and Maggy could get in. The trio (quartet if you counted Ryoko) approached the reception. The receptionist, a woman with golden-brown hair who Tam would place in her early thirties, showed immediate concern at the sight of Ryoko on the stretcher. "What happened?" "House caught fire while I was out. She was unconscious inside." "So, smoke inhalation?" "At least." "All right, love, I'll call the doctor, hell send some people to come and get her. If you can just put her down on that bed over there, she'll be seen to." Kelly nodded and led operation 'put Ryoko on the bed', before taking a seat on one of the empty chairs lined up along one of the walls. There wasn't anyone else in the room but them and the receptionist. Tam took the seat on Kelly's left. She hesitated, then put her arm around Kelly's shoulders. "She's gonna be alright, Kel." Kelly looked at Tam. "Yeah, I know, I know..." She coughed a bit. "It's just... I kinda feel like this is my fucking fault." Tam stared. "What're you on, you were way away when this happened, and you couldn't have seen-" "That's not what I mean." There was a short pause. "That fire was fucking huge. That's not, like, a rogue birthday cake or some shit. I smelt fucking gas." Tam blinked. She hadn't noticed. "You're saying that-" "I dunno. But I'm sure as hell gonna find out." There was something in Kelly's eyes Tam hadn't seen before. A kind of... fiery vengeance, pun not intended. She reckoned someone had tried to kill her and had almost killed her girlfriend in the process, and she wanted revenge. "Kel, be careful. Look before you leap, all that." Kelly turned to her, scepticism entering her gaze. "What, you think my fucking IQ dropped by a hundred just 'cos someone burnt my fucking house down?" Tam blinked. "No, no, just... general advice, y'know?" The doors by the reception opened and two women in nurses' outfits came out, walked over to the bed with Ryoko on it and wheeled it back, closing the door behind them. The moment it clicked shut, Kelly was on her feet. "Kel?" "C'mon, Tam, Maggy. We've got an arsonist to find." Tam jumped to her feet and went to follow her through the front door when the receptionist called. "I can send a letter when she can be visited, if you like?" Kelly turned. "Uh, yeah, thanks, do that." "Where do I send it?" "Uhh..." Tam stepped forwards. "The Odyssey, harbour two, jetty One-A." Kelly nodded. "Right. There. Thanks, Tam." |

“I have bad memories of these places…” Maggy wasn’t too happy to be back in a hospital so soon, but acted like she was fine with it. After all, last time she’d been in a place like this her leg had pretty much been facing the wrong way and the stuff inside had been all messed up. That being said, she knew it had broken but she didn’t exactly know how, she’d never looked at the papers she’d been given, until she realised that they burnt really well that was. After all there were many ways for things to break, tears in ligaments, breaking of bones, death, trauma, all of this could be seen as breakages, whether mental or physical. The hospital itself was rather clean, with the walls and floor all a greyish white like usual. She knew it was so that people could see if there was dirt and could clean it up, but she wished they’d be a little more creative with their colours. Having had to stare at a white wall for ages hadn’t been fun. The place practically stunk of antibacterial, which easily cleared the smell of smoke from her nose, which was simultaneously good and bad. As she allowed her nose to test the air for anything else, a sudden feeling welled up inside, and she proceeded to sneeze loudly which started normally and ended with a squeal at the end, she hadn’t done that for a while. “Stupid place…” She was aware hospitals were for patching people up, but she still didn’t like them much. It was fine to patch her up, and maybe one or two people she knew, but other than that they should have made the buildings into a graveyard or something, just take people there to be fixed but actually they’re just left to die. She rather enjoyed that idea, and then realised something. If people were being patched up here, this meant she could watch operations, or even join in, and she could “accidentally” walk off with some required tools and stuff. She smiled with glee before straying from the group, leaving Tam and Kelly to talk about things between themselves. “Oppppperaaatttionnnn table..?” As Maggy sneaked along the corridor, she looked through each door, hoping to find something interesting. Unfortunately for her it quickly became apparent that this hospital wasn’t one for operations, and instead was more likely to be patching people up and sending them off somewhere else to get the real medical attention. “Dammit… That’s a shame” She’d been hoping to get to see something like that, but alas she would have to wait for another day. She was sure it could wait, but she’d still had her hopes rather high. Another day though, another day. Looking back, she should have spent some time on Ketsuraku looking around that place, but alas it hadn’t crossed her mind, not that she’d been allowed out of bed much anyway. As she walked back to the main hospital lobby, she noticed that Tam and Kelly were still sat around. She went to approach them before deciding against it, realising that she had something she wanted to do first. “Excuse me miss, could you tell me why they don’t carry out operations here? Just I noticed a lack of tables and all, and I’m sure people would need that sort of treatment some time…” The nurse looked up from something she was writing, having apparently not realised that Maggy had gone on a stroll around the hospital without permission. She didn’t seem too bothered though, and in a polite tone replied: “The doctor that carried out operations left a while back, we haven’t had anyone to take his place since. He said he’d return soon but… It doesn’t seem to have happened. He was reliable though, so he should be back one day…” The woman seemed lost in thought, perhaps reliving some fond memories of this doctor. She didn’t press for more information, she was just wondering if they were carried out somewhere else to be honest, but that response told her to give up, at least until the doctor returned. She shrugged and finally returned to her two friends, sitting herself down beside Kelly. Usually she would have preferred to drop down next to Tam, maybe even lean on her a bit, but she was aware the tattoo artist would be feeling down, so she’d want some of Maggy’s expert comforting skills. “As much as you probably want to find who did this, you’ve got to remember that there’s something more important than that.” She nodded slightly towards the door which the tailor had been taken through earlier. “When she’s conscious again she’ll want a familiar face beside her.” She was really getting into this, who knew she could make so much crap up? She hoped it was working, because to be honest she just wanted to go kill someone, and she wanted the kill to herself. “She won’t want to be crowded though, meaning whilst you’re comforting her, me and Tam can go hunt down this arsonist. I mean… I’d presume it was arson, I could smell gasoline. Right, so we’ll hunt the person that did this, and inform you once we’ve found them.” She smiled, she hoped that this would be enough to convince her to stay with her partner long enough for her and Tam to get their hands dirty, find who did it and sort them out. Of course she couldn’t vouch for the survival of this person, but they’d be sorted out. She had a slight feeling she knew what type of person it would be too, but for now she had to wait it out. Naturally they’d collect a lot of information from the victim, but she was currently unconscious so that would be a bit difficult. “So… What now? Do we wait here or what? Looks like you need some fresh air though…” She stood up, straightening her back until she felt the familiar click, before turning back towards Kelly and Tam: “I never really liked the smell of these places anyway” |

A few minutes later, the girls were standing outside the now charred husk of the tattoo parlour. The crowd had pretty much entirely dispersed, and the firemen had left. They appeared to have put up some tape around the front of the building, indicating that entering was probably a bad idea. The whole place looked kind of sad - almost completely blackened. The sign that had once announced that the place was a tattoo parlour was now hanging from only one string, and was singed to the point that the only letters that were still visible were the two 'O's. The windows had shattered, and steam still rose from the woodwork. Tam looked to Kelly. Her shoulders were slumped, but her fists were clenched and her eyes angry. Someone had burnt her house down, and she was pissed. Even Tam could make out the smell of gasoline now. The question was, why would someone burn the house down? Could it have been related to someone Kelly had brought in before? More importantly, how had they managed to do it? Dousing a house in gasoline is no easy feat. And when the fire itself was started, Ryoko had been inside. Whoever had set this up had thought through a very careful plan of attack, it seemed. Eventually, Tam broke the silence. "So how do you think we can find out who did it?" Kelly paused. "That's a good question. Uh... I don't know." "Brilliant." "Well, I guess going in would be a good start?" A short pause. Kelly's angry look disappeared, relpaced by one of immature glee. Not that Tam's smirk was any more mature. "That's what she said." the girls said in unison, prompting a laugh. "Guess some things never change, we always were on the same page." "Nah, not quite. Same page, but you had the uncensored version." Kelly nodded. "True enough. But yeah, let's go in, look about, see if much survived." "Good start." Kelly led the way, heading up the steps towards the door, which was open. The planks creaked as she walked on them. The whole place smelled of soot and, very faintly, gas. "Let's make this quick. Dunno if it'll stay up as damaged as it is. That's what-" "We'll be splitting up then." Tam said with a small glare at Kelly, who grinned. "Alright, fun police." She looked to Maggy. "Think you can get the ground floor while we head upstairs? Just look for anything that's undamaged or possibly a clue." |

Maggy casually stood around the outside of the house, watching Tam and Kelly discuss their plans and make the odd joke. She was only half listening, as she was slightly distracted by the smell which filled the air. Although it had nothing on the burning of flesh, it was in fact the smell of gasoline, as well as the scent the building was giving off now it was slightly charred. The smell was refreshing, yet something felt slightly off, as if something had burnt which shouldn’t have, although the shop being full of ink could have something to do with it, as she was pretty sure it created a rather foul smell when heated too much. She was no scientist though. “In we go!” Grinning to herself, the slightly psychotic woman danced into the house once again, following the two girls into the building to have a look about. Nothing seemed exactly in one piece, and it all seemed to have a slight charred outline to it. Glass covered the floor and each step created a crunching noise when they initially entered the building, but was soon replaced by creaky floorboards. “I feel like I’m in a horror show” This made Maggy even happier as she began to wonder if she would get to play the killer, sneaking around the abandoned house and picking off victims one by one. She’d have to come back later when they weren’t being professional, as right now she had a murder to solve. Wait… Attempted murder. Damn, murder sounded a lot more fun. “Gotcha, bury any witnesses” With an impressive misinterpretation, Maggy got to work, letting the others head off upstairs whilst she carried out her duties. She paused briefly to observe them heading off towards the stairs, but then continued moving off towards where she thought would be smartest to start, that being the kitchen. Heading towards the oven she bent down and opened it up, poking her head inside and looking around for any clues. From what she could see there didn’t appear to be any sort of damage, or sign of use, suggesting the fire did not start with an accident in the kitchen. Next she looked to the window. There was only one window which she had seen, and that was in the kitchen. It stretched the length of the kitchen itself, but even then she didn't seem it to be overly large. Whether it was or wasn't, it did the job of showing the outside world and getting light in. It was above the work surface and so Maggy quickly lowered her head to check for anything on said surface. Despite what she expected, there was no sign of glass or dirt, meaning the person which started the fire didn’t get in through there. In fact somehow all the glass had fallen outside the house, blown out due to the fire. “Shame, I would’ve enjoyed it being that simple” The next thought that came to the crazy woman’s mind was the sofa, and so precariously, she moved across to where it sat. Just like the rest of the house it was pretty burnt up, and she doubted it could really be used for the same purpose again. The material was pretty much gone, with a few strands visible beneath the layer of soot. Crouching again, she inspected it to see if there were any traces of something, maybe blood from a struggle between two people, or the imprint of a backside, but instead there was nothing, it was pretty much impossible to make anything out there. There just didn’t seem to be anything useful to her, everything was either too burnt up to be helpful, or it just ceased to exist. She’d expected something obvious like a can of petrol lying about, or a simple mistake of a boot print or glass lying the wrong way, but despite this instead there was nothing. “Dammit. All we know is there was gasoline and a fire started, not helping…” Maggy then paused, noticing something in the corner of her eye. A slightly different colour caught her eye on the carpet. Although it was pretty much dust now, she could clearly see something red. Turning and walking towards it, she sifted the dirt around it away, avoiding actually touching whatever it was. She spent a moment looking at it, focusing her eyes and trying to work it out. Although it had melted she was almost certain of what it was, a lighter. The inspector went to reach into her pocket, before realising that she in fact didn’t even have much of her clothing left, let alone a pocket. She herself had also been in that fire after all, and at the time hadn’t noticed anything odd or different, except the face there was a fire, which seemed rather different to her. Instead of trying to find if she had a pair of gloves, Maggy did the next best thing, which consisted of tearing a piece of clothing off from her leg and using it as a glove to move the rest of the dirt away without removing anything which could be useful in evidence, like finger prints or blood. Once she had cleared it enough and made sure that she was correct in what she was seeing, she cleared her throat and yelled upstairs: “Guys, something you might wanna see here, probably useful” She paused for a moment, she expected the other two would be busy so she didn’t expect an instant reaction, but eventually added: “I found how the fire started. I think…” Edited by Gigasheep, Jan 21 2016, 10:46 AM.

“Gotcha, bury any witnesses.” Kelly gave a small smile - grossly misinterpreting Maggy's statement as humour - before leading Tam to and up the stairs. Tam, knowing Maggy, delayed a little to make sure things didn't get out of hand, whispering in her ear, "Maggy, we're here to find out who burnt the place down, not hide anything. 'Kay?" Then she rushed after Kelly. This being Tam's first time up here, she took a quick note of the room layout - or what was left of it. Straight ahead as you went up the stairs, there were the remnants of a door leading to a room with a toilet inside. A hole in the wall also revealed a shower. That'd be the bathroom then. Tam couldn't make out any other doors from there, but the hallway did extend around a corner of sorts. Kelly stepped through the charred doorframe into the bathroom, and did a quick sweep before looking back and shaking her head at Tam. "Can't see anything." She exited and led the way along the hall. Once at the end of it, Tam could see no less than three more doors. Two were closed and mostly intact, while the other was open. That was, naturally, the first place they went. The room seemed to be set up as a bedroom - a single bed, chest of drawers, cupboard. Or their remains anyway. Nothing fancy. "Guest room?" Tam asked. "Yup. We have two." "Living the dream. Not seeing anything though." "Neither. C'mon, no sense wasting time." They headed straight across the hall and checked the second, much smaller guest room, but the search turned up nothing. Finally, they turned to the final door. Kelly looked back at Tam as she gripped the doorknob. "Mine and Ryoko's room." Tam could see she was slightly nervous about what the state of the safe sanctuary she and her girlfriend must have shared many a night in. Tam's imagination briefly started to wander, but she quickly shook herself - not a good way to think about her best friend. That gave her brief pause. She hadn't seen Kelly in a couple of years, but it was just like old times. Were they technically best friends? She supposed Ryoko would be Kelly's. She shuddered at the thought that the most likely candidate for hers was the psychopathic anomaly that was searching downstairs. Once again she pulled herself back to the present, as Kelly swung the door open inwards. This room actually seemed fairly okay compared to the damage in the rest of the house, the walls were blackened and the carpets in tatters, but the room in general just felt less... destroyed. Kelly swiftly moved towards the bed and looked underneath. She let out an audible sigh, then stood up, having pulled out a cardboard box. She looked inside and let out an even more relieved breath. "Oh thank fuck." Tam recognised the box from the 'X' marked on the side in pink tape. She pretended she didn't and looked around the rest of the room. One of the walls held a ton of photographs - those square ones you get from polaroid cameras. Most were blackened and burned beyond recognition, but some you could just about make out still. Tam waled over and pulled the pin from one, taking it in hand to take a closer look. It was Kelly and Ryoko in front of the tattoo parlour, the former gripping the latter in a tight bearhug with her left hand while her right reached out towards the lens - probably holding the camera. Ryoko looked kind of startled, like Kel had just jumped on her for a picture. In all fairness, she probably had. "Took that about a week after we bought the place." came Kel's voice from behind her right shoulder. Tam looked at her. Tam couldn't exactly empathise - her place had been a mess more out of laziness than anything - but she could definitely feel sorry for her. “Guys, something you might wanna see here, probably useful. I found how the fire started, I think…” Kelly broke out of her little nostalgia bubble and grinned. "She works fast, that gal. Is she that fast in-" "Wouldn't know." Tam cut her off. "Besides, she's like ten years older than me. Be fucking creepy." Kelly scoffed. "Oh, and sailing alone with her isn't?" A pause. "Touché. Anyway, let's see what she's got." Not long later, they heading downstairs. As Kel, who was in the lead, jumped the last step, the contents of the box jostling around inside, she called out. "Alright, girl, what'cha got?" Tam followed, still pretending the box didn't exist. She took a look at Maggy, who was noticeably losing clothing by the minute - Ryoko had apparently not expected fireproofing to be an issue. That, and Maggy now held a small object in what appeared to be a bit of material torn from her suit. Where Maggy had got the strength to rip the heavy material that made up the suit, Tam would never know. She was stronger than her very skinny frame would suggest, that much she knew. She turned her attention to the item. It was a very vibrant red. Probably plastic by the looks. Cheap plastic. Considering that, and Maggy's previous statement about what she'd thought she'd found... “Indeed it is my most marvellous assistant! A disposable lighter. Where did it come from? Nobody knows! Truly a spectacle to behold. If only the walls could talk, oh the stories they’d tell. But they can’t… Damn walls!” Maggy had started her speech as if she was commentating on some sort of show, perhaps advertising some sort of product to the masses or sat on the sides at a sports match. Whatever it was that she was trying to get across in her act, it quickly dissipated as she realised her burning hatred for walls, with only the thought this used to be a friend’s house holding her back from breaking a few things. “Whoever the culprit of this tragic case was, they couldn’t have been completely with it. In fact, I’m certain they were complete morons, no doubt about it. Heh, I’d even go as far as to say they are one of the silliest people I’ve ever known about, I mean… Leaving the evidence behind just like this?” This certainly wouldn’t come back to bite Maggy, as she demonstrated her more posh side of speaking. It was taking a lot of effort to keep going and not laugh or anything, with only the prospect of sending insults at some random person who could be any distance from their currently location keeping her from losing it. Still, she had to agree with herself; this person wasn’t the sharpest of knives in the back, leaving a piece of evidence around. Either that or they were extremely cocky. She hated cocky people. “Don’t worry my friend, we shall find the culprit in no time, for I am the greatest detective to have ever been, with my detective slash leader Tam!” Really hated cocky people. Still… perhaps one of her psychosis-induced speeches had led to a little more confidence, hope and glee to be infused into the now homeless woman which stood beside her demon buddy, which although hadn’t been the intention, could have been a rather useful side-effect. Now that her monologue had finished, Maggy turned her attention to the elephant in the room, or more so, the box in the room. Being one of the only things which hadn’t been crisped, and one of the more colourful additions to the aesthetics, the woman with little in the way of understand of privacy proceeded to grill Kelly (not in the literal sense, although that’d be ironic in this situation). “So… What’s in the box?” Something about the box screamed medical supplies, like alcohol and scissors, but she kept that thought quiet; the more rational side to the irrational lady was playing up again and telling her something very interesting was inside. And there was only one way to find out what exactly it was. “Wait… Don’t tell me… A chocolate bar, which you hid away after your friends kept stealing from your fridge, so you had to think of somewhere else to put it. Hmm… Or perhaps…” It appeared her odd way of thinking hadn’t stopped just yet, as she continued to spout nonsense which only some people would understand. To match what she was saying, she crossed her legs slightly, held her arms close to her chest and placed a finger on her lower lip, speaking in a suddenly very different tone: “Or perhaps, some very… Fond memories?” |

Kelly gave Tam a funny look as Maggy went off on her rambling monologue. All Tam could do in response was shrug, and wait for Maggy to finish. “So… What’s in the box?” Tam cringed. Kelly grinned. "Wouldn't you like to know?" She started looking Maggy up and down as she did her provocative pose. "Not a bad pose for you either. Puts emphasis on your tits, I like that. Sure you're not gonna say how big they are?" Tam elbowed her. "Oh, of course, sorry. She's yours." Tam elbowed her. "Right, right, right." Tam cleared her throat. "You're right, though, Maggy. Leaving it behind is kinda dumb. Maybe they dropped it by mistake? Or they could have left it intentionally. Could be a trap." "Well, if it's a trap, they're gonna be there aren't they? Then we escape death by a hair and fuck 'em up." Tam shrugged. "Sounds like a plan. So how're we gonna find out who owns it?" Kelly pointed through the front wall of the house. "We go to the corner shop. They sell this crap. We ask which motherfuckers bought these and we track 'em all down." Tam looked taken aback "One by one?" "C'mon, how many people could have bought a red disposable lighter in the last few days?" "NINE-FUCKING-TEEN?!" Kelly yelled at the guy behind the counter. They'd wasted no time in walking the short distance down the road to the corner shop, but upon asking for information regarding lighter sales, he hit them with the harsh truths - red lighters had been flying off the shelves that day. "And you can't even give us a description of ONE MOTHERFUCKER?" He shrugged nonchalantly. "It's been a busy day. I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to either calm down or leave, you're disturbing the other customers." Kelly looked like she was about to punch something, but she instead looked to Tam and Maggy. "Fuck it, this place is a lost cause." They headed out into the street. "Well what do we do now?" Kelly paused for a second, deep in thought. Tam took a second to look around. The sky was still cloudy, but it hadn't been raining as they'd left the inn earlier, she didn't think. Must've been a short burst. The ground was still pretty damp though. In looking down, she realised she was still wearing the skintight suit Kelly had provided, but was no longer holding her usual clothes. She blinked. "Shit. Where'd I put my clothes?" Kelly blinked. "Only you, Tam. Did you leave them at the inn?" "I dunno. I think I had them when we went to the hospital." Kelly slow clapped. "Good job, Tam. They're probably still there, we can go get 'em." Tam paused. "Nah, it's alright. I'll go alone, meet you guys back on the ship." She started walking off. "Maggy, you take her there, all right?" |

Maggy thought back briefly to when he was young. She could just imagine the bird cage which hung in the living room, and when she returned to her house on that fateful day. The cage still stood, but the creature inside was nothing but ash and bone. She laughed at the thought now, although back then it had traumatised her. Before she got to vocalise her thoughts on the misinterpreted subjects and clear up her confusion, the topic shifted. She didn’t mind, she could always ask later on, although the question about the box being almost ignored was kind of upsetting. She’d have to sneak a peek later. Tam and Kelly continued a conversation, which took a little bit of effort to keep up with. She wasn’t so accustomed to the flow of conversation still, as it usually all happened in her head, not that it was a bad thing. It appeared that they indeed had a plan, and it sounded like a good one, and included doing things to other people, and she liked the sound of those things. So… Off to the shops. The shop wasn’t the best place she’d ever seen, but it looked like they sold some useful stuff, including everyday items like towels, water bottles and plastic bowls. However they were there to ask about lighters, and unfortunately the shop keeper seemed to know very little on the subject and it wasn’t long before he’d upset Kelly, who along with Tam walked out in anger. However Maggy decided to stay for just a brief moment, long enough to give him a death stare and then a friendly smile and then left the building. He’d know what she meant. “Well aren’t you silly” Having just walked over to the two, she laughed slightly at the prospect of her friend managing to forget something so important, before realising she too had managed to leave hers behind somewhere. “I mean… Uh… Things like that have a tendency to turn up eventually you know?” And with that Tam walked off, giving her the instruction to take Kelly back to the ship. This would have been a very simple task for the normal type person, however for someone as competent as Maggy, this could end up proving to be a difficult task. Acting as if she had a clue what exactly was going on or where to go, the odd woman spun in a circle, pointed in a random direction and began to walk. A while later the two managed to arrive at the ship in one piece. Apparently Kelly knew her way around the town, which had managed to save the two from aimlessly strolling around for a few hours. Of course that wouldn’t have been an awful thing, but seeing as Tam could be back any moment it was best not to miss her. However once they actually got to the ship, she wasn’t there just yet, which meant one thing… “Come aboard, it’s nice and cosy here. Tam’s room is down there, all her clothes and possessions are kept in one place. Easy to find. Go crazy!” She pointed briefly to the way into her friend’s room before skipping off to her own, not waiting for a reply. The clothes on her body were starting to stick a little and if she didn’t take them off soon she suspected they’d leave dirt all over her perfect skin, and she couldn’t have that now could she? Opening the door to her room she spun in casually, shutting the door behind her with an impressive manoeuvre from her foot. Once inside she slipped out of her shoes and shook herself a little bit, watching as her new clothes fell to the floor, having been so damaged they were only holding together by a few stiches. It was a bit of a shame seeing as she liked this sort of thing, but she could always get another, fix it, or just wear something else. If everyone wore the same they’d know who to target after all. A few moments later she exited her room, wearing a pair of black skinny jeans, and a black shirt, the left sleeves not covering her shoulder at all and reaching half way down her arm instead. Oh and of course she wore her normal heels. She wasn’t exactly doing anything important right now so she could afford to wear casual stuff. Edited by Gigasheep, Jan 24 2016, 09:17 AM.

It didn't take long for Tam to reach the hospital again. The girl behind the reception looked up as she entered. "Did you forget something?" Tam swept the room with her eyes as she answered. "Yeah, I think... aha." She approached the chairs where they'd sat down. Her clothes were in a messy bundle, all accounted for by the looks. She breathed out - anything else she wouldn't have too much trouble with losing, but she couldn't replace these. She scooped them up and turned to the receptionist. "You got a toilet?" "Those are yours then?" she asked, and pointed to a pair of doors off to her right. "Thanks." Tam said and headed through the door marked with a red woman symbol over it. The inside was fairly standard - white and pale blue colouring on pretty much everything, five cubicles and two sinks. One of the cubicles was occupied, which struck Tam as odd given how empty the rest of the building was, but she didn't argue and entered the cubicle next to it. She started unbuckling her belts, which clicked and rustled as they moved. They clacked as they hit the floor. "You must be wearing some heavy duty clothes." Tam's hand froze on the zip of the suit for a second. That voice was the person next door. She relaxed herself and continued undressing. "I keep a lot of crap on my belts, so they're pretty heavy." "I see. What kind of... things?" a deliberate pause. This person didn't like the word 'crap'. "All sorts, really. Tools, nuts, bolts, tape, a couple of old biscuits... whatever I might need." "Interesting. Are you a mechanic then?" Tam grinned. "Not professionally. But I do tinker." She let her suit drop to the ground. She stretched out - that suit was heavy, definitely built with defensive functionality over being lightweight. She paused. That made it even stranger that Maggy's had shredded so easily in the fire. She'd have to ask Ryoko once she was better. Then she realised she was in a public toilet wearing nothing but a pair of panties conversing with a completely unknown stranger in the cubicle next door, and opted to lower her arms and get to redressing. "I do a bit of tinkering myself you know." Tam pulled the chestpiece of her outfit into position. "Oh, awesome. Always great to meet a fellow gearhead." A chuckle from next door. "Well, gearhead may be pushing it..." The sound of movement, and the flush of a toilet. The person next door left her cubicle. "Well, I'd best be off. I'm visiting a friend here, and I wouldn't want to keep them waiting. It was nice talking to you." Tam started pulling up her stocking. "Yeah, you too." And the woman left. A few minutes later, Tam followed suit, now clad in the clothes her Dad had sent, and carrying the suit under her right arm. The receptionist was occupied with a man in a suit, but briefly turned to look her way, then double-took. "What are you wearing?" Tam looked down at her exposed midriff and blushed a bit. "Oh, uh, well..." "S-Sorry! It's none of my business!" Tam lifted her head. "No, no, it's fine, I dunno what I'm... wearing... either..." the man at the desk had turned to face her as well. She knew that face. "Well, fancy meeting an angel in a place like this." Tam didn't know exactly how to respond, but settled on, "Q.B." Great. Now she'd joined the anime club of 'say someone's name as a response'. He laughed though. "Of course, I never actually introduced myself. Call me Quin. Or Baby. Whatever works." In the dark recesses of her brain, Tam vomited. This Quentin Brown pleb from earlier - the pirate who'd asked her out - had all the seductive ability of a rubber duck. Maggy had better be quick with her assassination later. Which reminded her of the fact that the arson of the tattoo parlour wasn't all they had to worry about. She paled a bit. "Sure, yeah. Anyway, I gotta be somewhere, so... see ya!" And she darted for the door. A few minutes later she was ascending the gangplank of the Odyssey. Maggy was on deck - in yet another change of clothes (Tam seriously wondered what kind of infinite void was inside her wardrobe). She looked around. "Where's...?" She got her answer upon seeing Kelly's box on the table and that hatch to her room was open. She grit her teeth and sighed a bit. She put her finger to her lips, gesturing for Maggy to be quiet, and unholstered her steel pistol. She jumped down the hatch and took a split second to spot Kelly, point the gun at her and pull the trigger. Kelly started screaming as the sound of the explosion filled the cabin. She stumbled backwards onto Tam's bed, eyes screwed shut, still yelling. As her yells died, she noticed a few things. One: She felt no pain. Two: Tam was laughing her arse off. She opened her eyes and pouted. "Tam, don't fire fucking blanks at me." Tam grinned and dumped herself next to her on the bed, putting her arm around her. "Whatcha get for trying to sniff my panties. Should've seen the look on your face though, priceless!" "I was not sniffing your fucking panties. I've matured since those days." "Yeah, sure, says the girl who took all of ten seconds after our reunion to stare down my shirt." Kelly ignored her and kept going. "I was looking at the stuff on your table. What is it?" Tam paused and recited from memory. "Pocket watch I can't get working, pen that uses compressed gas to fire the cap that doesn't work, spare containers of gunpowder, work in progress special ammo for guns, and the remnants of a tripwire device I picked up in Tellwin." "Still making crap then?" "Emphasis on crap. The only stuff I can ever get working is based on stuff from other people, but people still call me a good inventor from time to time. It pisses me off, to be honest." Kelly was frowning. "You alright?" "Yeah, just... I dunno. Haven't been in an inventor's workshop since, well... Mom's." Tam swallowed. Kelly had never got on with her Mum. "We can head up if you want. I think we need to start planning for how to deal with Quentin Brown." Kelly's head snapped up. "Shit." "You forgot, didn't you?" Tam prodded her. "And you didn't?" "Aha, but see, I remembered. Now, let's get up there and talk strategy." |

Maggy stood there casually on the deck, or more so, leaning on the deck at an awkward angle. She’d had chills running up her back moments ago despite it not being that cold and she had a slightly bad feeling in her gut, as if someone was doing something they shouldn’t. She thought about it for a few moments before deciding to try and forget about it, if anyone was doing anything bad then they’d find themselves stuck to the heel of her boot soon enough. As the crazy lady watched the clouds go past in the sky, seeing rather questionable images including murder scenes in them, she heard a slight noise next to her. Moments later, the creator of that noise began creeping towards where Kelly was, and she was fully aware what would go down in there. She giggled to herself mischievously, she trusted the tattoo artist enough to play nice, and so she could joke to herself all she liked. As she began to daydream, something caught her eye, preventing the rather dangerous images coming to mind. A simple box, sat on a table nearby. Of course this was a friend’s box, and she had no right to go sneaking around and looking inside, or so a normal person would have thought; Maggy was not normal. Her tongue poking out cheekily and an aura of excitement about her, she began to creep towards the box. Her heels tended to make rather a large amount of noise when hitting the wooden floor, so she had to pay extra attention to that when moving. Thankfully the box wasn’t too far away, so it wasn’t difficult to get there quickly, and with a swift movement she had a hand on each side of the box, ready to prise it open at any moment. As her fingers began working on a firmer grip, she got ready to open it, her arms practically shaking with excitement. Her questions hadn’t been answered before and surely something awesome would come from opening it. Perhaps she had demons hidden inside, the type which Tam was, just with a little less form to them than her, like souls floating around in a small area. She liked the thought, and so began to lift the lid. That was when she heard the bullet, and in a rather comical fashion slammed the top back down and screamed for her life: “Wasn’t me I tell you! It was Amy!” With that she began squealing like a little girl and running about the place in random directions, attempting to avoid being shot at or being hit by a bullet. It took almost a full minute for her to come to her senses, and stop running about like a headless chicken. She supposed being on her own ship she wasn’t exactly going to be shot at anyway, that was just preposterous in all seriousness. “I… Didn’t do that either. That one was Mimi” She quickly passed over any responsibility for running around like crazy onto a seemingly non-existent being, although whether this was true cannot be said, for the woman had no clue herself, already onto the next train of thought heading straight for hell. The box seemed to be protected by some sort of invisible guardian, so she couldn’t go after it head on, and seeing as she had no idea how to solve her question any other way, she would simply wait for now and see what happened. She could hear a little bit of speech coming from downstairs, so she presumed that Kelly and Tam were having a pleasant bit of fun, and although she couldn’t hear the exact words it all seemed good. “Oh, so this piece of junk is your ship is it?” A vaguely familiar voice came shouting from the nearby docks, causing Maggy to turn and look at where it had come from, which didn’t really help her much. The woman wore a rather half arsed hairdo, seeming that she was only interested in having any hair at all on one side. She carried around a baseball bat too, which looked like it could probably do some damage if in the wrong hands. The assassin paused for a moment, blinked, and then spoke. “Uh… Who are you again?” A slight tutting sound followed her question. “Bitch. I’m Bat, okay? BAT” As if to add emphasis she also swung her namesake, perhaps in a threatening manner, although Maggy couldn’t quite tell. She also couldn’t quite tell where she’d seen her before, she seemed familiar but it was hard to remember. The clothing seemed to ring a bell though, with the low cut tank-top and slightly casual looking jeans, plus the bands on her arm did seem rather familiar, as well as the weird thing round her neck. “Ah, I see. Bat… Right. So, uh, what do you want?” "I would say to get to know ya, but you're being all blunt and boring. What about the girl you brought with ya, she about?" She had to think for a moment, was she referring to Tam? It did appear this was the case, which was most intriguing. Everyone seemed so interested in her now, perhaps it had something to do with her natural allure she had, or perhaps it had something to do with the demon magic. Whatever it was, she was having a blast with all of this going on. “Yeah, her and K… Uh…” Didn’t they need to use codenames or something? “Her and tattoo-woman are having in her room. Probably not good to disturb them, it’s like a ritual I’d say, with crazy happenings and stuff. I mean… What if something goes wrong and we need to do a ritual ourselves to get them back? Sacrifice something…” Maggy looked eagerly towards Bat, as if hoping that the weapon wielding punk girl would lay down her life to keep Tam in their realm of existence. To be fair whether she wanted to or not, if worse came to worse she had no choice at all, she was dying so that the crazy lady could get her friend back. Unfortunately the metal weapon was now aimed at her in a rather angry fashion. “You wanna go?” “Hmm… Depends where. And not without Tam, I mean… Uh… Inventor woman. I think we’re headed for my hometown next, I have some grudges to settle and stuff, people to kill… I’m sure you get the idea” Rolled eyes and a lowered weapon followed, Bat seemed to lose her anger a little bit, turning a little sour instead: “Never mind, I’m leaving. I don’t fight the mentally handicapped” With that she waved and began to walk off. Maggy simply waved back and smiled, a warm reply following the angry short lady: “Don’t worry me neither. See ya around!” “Idiot…” And with that she was gone. As she disappeared into the distance a thought occurred to the rather slow lady: “Oh… I’m working with her aren’t I?” |

"Damn straight." Kelly remarked as she led the way up from below decks, in response to Maggy's memory kicking into gear. "Good job, I don't think I've ever seen Bat just fuckin' give up on beating someone up after a threat." Tam was following closely behind, and now all three of the girls were on deck. Kelly eyed her box on the table and moved over, as though vowing to keep a closer eye on it. She also used the table to draw the spotlight to herself by slamming her hands down on it. "Alright, ladies, let's get scheming! I know some exciting shit's gone down quickly, but we can't forget that we're assassinating the d-bag who asked Tam out tonight!" "Yeah, we definitely can't forget." Tam said sarcastically, "Like you did." Kelly rolled her eyes. "Details, schmetails. The important thing is we can't forget from now on." "So here's the plan. We dress Tam up all fancy, then we-" "Oi, I'm not a dress up doll. I'll wear what I like." "You are not going in a T-shirt and jeans, or dressed in that stripper gear you're in now, because we want his guard down. We pretty you up like shit, and he's gonna think you're way into this." Tam looked sceptical. "Alright, fine. As long as 'prettying me up' doesn't look as kinky as I'm expecting you to make it." Kelly made an exaggerated gasp in mock surprise. "Would I do that to you?" Tam turned her head away. "Not gonna dignify that with an answer." Kelly cleared her throat. "Anyway, once you're looking sexy as fuck, we cart you off to his place. He opens the door all star struck at how good you are, and knowing him he's probably gonna try get your panties off before he kills you, so we get Maggy in there to do the hit before he knows what's... hit him." She turned to Maggy. "You can do that, right?" Edited by Ludus_Defectio, Feb 29 2016, 11:14 AM.
