A Doctor, on a ship or otherwise, gains large medical knowledge. Suturing and cleaning wounds, making bandages out of various materials and preparing drugs, is all part of a Doctor's job. Doctors are the only ones capable of healing serious injuries on the crew. Doctors have the ability to create drugs and toxins that can buff allies or debuff enemies.

Hair: Salasais has black, shoulder-length hair. His hair is somewhat slimy because of a collection of spores which have settled in it, giving it a constant wet appearance and slightly sticky feel.
Eyes: Eyes are brown, but constantly dilated, so he sees reasonably well in the dark but his eyes are abnormally sensitive to light.
Clothing/Accessories:
Clothing is somewhat scarce on Salasais, he wears knee-length shorts and little else. He has 3 gold earrings in his right ear and one on his left. He also travels barefoot. His shorts are gray and frayed at the bottom. He also carries four colored gourds which hang from a cord around his waist. His "mantle" made of moss and fungus seems like clothing but is actually a natural growth from his shoulders that hangs down his back.
General Appearance:
He is, in a word, dirty. He appears to wear a mantle of moss and various fungal growths which proceeds down his back almost like a cape, though it has all grown out of him. While idle, spores are shaken off of his skin as he moves, but he can reduce the amount thrown off with some concentration. Some parts of his body are bioluminescent and glow in the dark, particularly his eyes.

The Character
Personality:
Salasais seems detached from his surroundings as if always listening to a voice only he can hear. He secretly desires the respect of others as his honorable birthright was denied to him by the desolation of his village. He is most comfortable in dark, moist places and has a marked aversion to fire; instincts bestowed by his fungal symbiont. Sometimes it is difficult to discern whether one is speaking to the human side of him or the fungal side, or if there is even a difference. He almost always speaks in third person, or in first-person plural.

Having a perceived connection to the "spirit world," Salas is generally of the opinion that everything has an underlying cause pertinent to an overarching theme. As a result of this belief, he seeks a hidden meaning to his surroundings and circumstances as well as taking any opportunity presented to pry into the thoughts and feelings of his associates and providing an insightful interpretation when he deems it appropriate.

The fact that "civilized" societies are new to him means that he has a hard time dealing with crowds of people, especially noisy ones. He has little regard for the established order on islands he visits, his only concerns being the pursuit of his goals and the well-being of himself and close associates. Additionally, he keeps a small collection of seemingly random objects that he considers spiritually significant.

When his emotional balance is severely disrupted, whether by physical trauma or losing control of his surroundings, the fungus inhabiting his body exerts greater control over his thoughts and actions, causing him to behave more aggressively and in a less organized manner.
-As this has recently led to him murdering and/or badly poisoning a crowd of civilians, Salas is a lot more wary of his fungal "spirit" and is actually somewhat afraid of himself. He tries to surround himself with people capable of killing him, just in case.

Hometown: Takusca village, remote south blue island.
History:
Salasais was born into a small tribe on a remote island in the South Blue. By chance, he was born into the tribe’s class of spiritual leaders which included training in the use of herbs, spices, and various reagents to facilitate healing or change in the tribe’s people. This was a position of respect that he would gladly accept. As a rite of passage, however, it was required that he go alone into the forest and seek a spiritual vision before he could be accepted as a shaman for his tribe. Somewhat confused as to what he should expect, he wandered off and soon became lost.
As he stumbled about in the forest, after what seemed like days without food or water he began to be delirious. He came to an oddly colored mushroom which seemed the height of a small tree, he had never seen or heard of such a thing from his teachers in the village so he deemed it to be the sign he sought and began to meditate at the base of it, not noticing the spores that he was being dusted with. Before long, his meditation drifted into a deep sleep full of incredibly confusing dreams… all of which mushroom-related for some reason. In some, he returned to his village to find that everyone and everything in it had become a fungus, in others he would eat mushrooms until he exploded. But none of these nightmares seemed to shake him enough to wake from his hallucinogenic coma.
What actually transpired in the woods was that the spores raining down on him coated his body and began to be absorbed into it, weaving their way into every fiber of his being. The source of his dreams was the spores fusing into his spinal column and brain, the end result of which being that his entire body and mind was now being shared between him and a symbiotic fungus.
Apparently, this metamorphic process took longer than Salasais had thought, as when he returned to his village, he found it completely abandoned. Whether by war, disease, or famine he could not determine, but the fact remained that he was now a shaman without a home. He saw that one raft remained of his village’s fishing caste and took it as a sign that he was destined to leave his home and see the world through his new eyes. He stored the raft someplace safe so he could prepare himself for the dangers of the unknown, returning to the forest to train himself and meditate upon his condition and place in the world.


Abilities and Possessions
Combat:
Salasais' fighting style is heavily reliant on the production and use of spores. He fights in close range with a variety of sudden, jerking motions so as to shake spores from his body into the air around his opponent, using their distinct effects to gain an advantage over them. He alters the spore effects by dousing parts of his body with an herbal concoction from his conditioning gourds which causes an adaptation in the spores produced in that area of his body for the desired effect.

~Mad Scientist (1 Trait) – The epitome of madness. Cackling and gleeful hand-rubbing is a favourite pastime of this character, and every time they finish an experiment, there are obligatory flashes of lightning. The mad scientist has the ability to make one major biological modification to themselves or any NPCs they control.
-Salasais has become the host to a symbiotic fungus which causes his body to naturally produce spores as well as being in partial control of his actions. His skin is somewhat spongy to the touch and spores are shaken off of him by most movements. The spores are highly adaptive, taking on different properties according to various stimuli, causing buffs or debuffs in others. Over time, mushrooms, moss, and other fungi will grow off of his body. A disadvantage of this change is that his skin is extremely flammable.
(The spores have no status effect of their own and serve as a dispersal method for AOE "poison" status techniques, debuff/buff permitted by Doctor Primary profession)
-Medical Malpractice (1 Trait) – Part of knowing what is required to keep somebody healthy is knowing what will cause others to become unhealthy. Doctors who put this knowledge to practical use may make especially potent poisons. They gain special Technique Points which can only be used on toxins that harm or debuff, of the amount of half their fortune.

Okay, that took a little doing. Redistributed stats, corrected fortune, tech points and tech ranks. Is my dodge tech still okay or do I need to scale down more than just the stats by dropping rank?

I don't like your dodge tech, seems like two things in one. Either it can debuff or it can dodge, I don't like combos like it. Change it and I think you're fine?

Figured the dodge tech would be iffy, made more sense to me at rank 8 since 8 is where you can start having added effects to techs.

Okay, altered the debuff durations. Any effect on buffs? I missed that part because it wasn't in the buff category section. (thought it was professional since the trait is a professional trait... but it is mentioned by name so I won't question it.)

Doctor drugs are also 1 post duration per 4 ranks, so they also only last for a post at this level.

So, I have a point of disagreement about salasais' buff/debuff techs. The techs section on the rules said that you can increase the duration of a stat-changing tech if you reduce the effectiveness by one crowd tier. A rank 6 buff would, on a single target, would be 66% (which would round down to 3) so I reduced it to the effectiveness of a 2-5 target which is 50% which is still 3.

Poison/Drug (Debuff/Buff): Lasts 1 post/4 ranks. Duration can be increased to 1 post/2 ranks by dropping effectiveness by one crowd tier.

I can understand where the mechanical misunderstanding would arise since I didn't explicitly say that the effectiveness was reduced but I don't know where that would be mentioned considering that the status change is unchanged. (didn't know why one said 2 and another was 4, I fixed that. the buffs are 50% efficiency for 1rank/2posts duration)

Also, I would argue that the debuffs would be poisons produced by his mad science trait... but I won't fight that battle.

fighting that latter battle would just gimp your durations entirely though... so I'd also agree with your choice there.
