Fortunately, the hair arm and the armour was gotten up in time to provide a cushion against the agent's incoming kick, absorbing the majority of the blow and since the arm was made out of hair, there was nothing being broken. Unfortunately, while the arm and the armour absorbed most of the force, they did not absorb all of it, the kick sending Illya flying from one wall to the next, a metallic peal ringing out as the armour impacted the wall. While said armour absorbed the force of the blow, the pirate was still rattled, his eyes unable to focus on anything in front of him. Fortunately, his ears and the rest of his mind still worked and he listen to Argos's speech as the latter began walking closer. As he listened, the doctor knew that he would have to take initiative in this fight if he hoped to get out of here alive. Digging into his higher than normal knowledge and control of his own body, the inventor directed the muscles in his legs to grow, knowing that he would need all the speed he could get. Hopefully it would be enough. "When there is a condition to the extent of your freedom, it's not really freedom, is it? After all, I doubt that you really want to protect the majority of mankind. No, true freedom is doing whatever you want, when you want." the martial artist replied calmly as his eyes finally regained their full use, choosing to ignore the man's comment about the orphanage. While he certainly had done plenty of things that could be considered evil, he really did not care much for burning down a building filled with kids unless doing so served some sort of a purpose other than getting money since there were far better ways of making it. Plus, killing a bunch of kids was a good way of getting all the Marines on his tail and that was something that he did not care for at this moment. "Somehow I really doubt that your pay is but a drop in the ocean of the funds that we pirates have access to. When we want money, we simply take it, no questions asked. That is true freedom." the one armed man continued, as he watched the man carefully. As the agent approached, Illya caught the familiar movement of the hands, indicating the attack that the man would most likely use on him. And the pirate was more than sure that he did not want to get hit by that attack. As such, as the man started to prepare for the attack, the inventor flickered out of view, appearing almost immediately behind his opponent. Wasting no time at all, the doctor readied his spear before unleashing a multitude of thrusts, hoping that one of them would impale the target. Once the seastone blade would pierce the flesh, the martial artist would unleash a blast of titanium melting heat beam directly at the area where the heart would be. His only hope for winning this fight was to overwhelm his opponent and strike while the seastone was limiting his powers. Of course, it none of this worked, the one armed man was not entirely sure what he would do since he did not really have any more tricks to play up his sleeve. Stats and Techs

As the havoc settled, William could see what the enemy was up to more clearly. He saw these balls that seemed to be pushing everything away from Arcadia and Missy. The doctor cursed under his breath. He was counting on his quagmires to weaken them. Now, they would likely have to face Arcadia in her full power soon. After a moment though, he supposed that giving Arcadia a real reason not to fight them right this moment – other than feeling superior – was a good enough achievement for the disgusting sludge. Missy didn’t seem to appreciate Will’s reliance on tactics to ensure his side gains the upper hand. Either she was truly dumb enough to think he was afraid of her or she was trying to bait him into charging her head on. Like he would miss on the opportunity to remove Mac from the battle field just to prove how manly he is. He didn’t even like killing people. In fact, if it were up to him, he’d be using nothing but his swords to fight Mac one on one right now, since none of these others interested him the least bit. Alas, this was a fight for survival, not fun, nor glory. That meant he would just have to make sure Mac dies very soon, because he’s the most dangerous besides Arcadia herself. He didn’t say any of this though, but rather just stared at them silently. He was saving his strength at this moment, observing them. As Mac jumped in the air to fight Uncarayne, William let him do it. Judging by his demeanor, he was raging, and Unca was clever, so he would likely take advantage of that. More importantly though, Missy would probably take the opportunity to fire something else at him the moment he shows her his back. Judging by the fact that he didn’t hear any explosions behind him last time, that bullet was likely made of seastone given how rich these guys are. They can certainly afford it. Not that all her bullets would be like that of course, but he would expect her to try that again at some point since his DF power was clearly annoying them all. He had to admit though, Arcadia was a rather nice person, providing him with all these hints on what the bullet she gave her subordinate does. Of course, she had no choice but to give Missy some information on the bullet, but she could have still used less plain terms. Anyway, William knew that she was implying the bullet could follow him around and was fast enough to track him even while using soru. It still felt like this bullet was way too convenient, especially since he knew Missy would be able to track him herself with enough practice, but it’s not like there is someone deciding what happens in this story and trying to get William to bleed as soon as possible, right? RIGHT? Eve came out around that time and shot at Mac and Unca. If he didn’t know she was an ally and wouldn’t want to hurt their mutual friend, he would have probably jumped her right then, but she probably knew what she was doing, so he reluctantly trusted in her aim. In any case, William had a good enough guess on how to make sure this bullet that was about to be fired at him doesn’t pierce any vital organs, since that’s about the best he would hope to achieve if this bullet could truly follow people around. Missy of course had to run her mouth some more as she fired, but Will’s answer didn’t come. He just relaxed his muscles and let himself be carried by the wind of the incredibly fast bullet. This was a rather pleasant feeling, to let go of all one’s worry and let the air handle one’s body and push it away from all attacks. If there was one thing William learned is that no coward could possibly relax enough in the face of danger to master the skill of Kami-E, which – ironically – appears rather cowardly from the outside, one has to admit. He always liked to season his behavior with a bit of irony. It was only a split moment before all the relaxation went out of him as the feeling he was used to experiencing in the Treasure Hold's bath overwhelmed him. Seasone after all… he thought as he felt the ripple of pain, initiated on his left shoulder, went through his entire body as it forced him to get tense again. Suddenly, he didn’t find his wings at all, and his color scheme as well as his size changed back to normal. Unable to focus on anything with the terrible lack of strength, he fell… He found himself on his knees, the bottom third of his body all submerged in sludge, and about to fall on his face. Some deep rooted instinct pushed him to use his healthy arm and stop the motion. There he stood still for a moment on three limbs. He couldn’t summon enough strength to remove the inconvenience of his own ability. It was rather fortunate that this place had solid ground, since his quagmires were usually much deeper than this when taking root in plain soil. He forced himself to use his injured arm to reach into one of the pockets on his belt - the same one he had used before - and pull out a red pill. He swallowed it immediately and felt a bit of relief as energy poured into his body once again, and he regained the ability to move even in this inconvenient environment. He stood, took out one of his rapiers, and then vanished from the sight of most people in the room, except perhaps Missy. Soru! he thought as he appeared again close to Mac and aimed a devastatingly fast and powerful stab at his torso. Having moved quickly and being focused on Mac, he wasn’t sure what was happening around him, or if he would be able to dodge whatever Missy or Mac were going to throw at him in this state. The only thing he knew was that this one had to die right now, without any form of delay, because Arcadia will definitely start fighting after she realizes what Eve coming out of the room alone means. As her fist collided with the robot's chest once more she again tried to force her way through the metal plating of his body or at least do some kind of notable damage to the stuff but again she felt like no progress had been made. God damn what was this guy made of? it had to be some sort of incredible material in order to withstand her Aku Jugon while in her White Thunder form and not even dent a little bit. That being said Arcadia must have poured a lot of time and money into the cyborg, well Raine assumed the robot worked for Arcadia considering the situation and her prowess as a creator. Hopefully the fight wouldn't go on for too much longer though as her body was growing weary. This had been the first time the assassin had actually gotten into a fight while using White Thunder and needless to say the toll was much greater than it was in training exercises. As Jacob was pushed back by the might of her blow she saw the robot remain standing and began to fear that it was still up and kicking but instead of making some sort of retort or even getting into a fighting position once more it remained slumped over, not even so much as a sound really getting out. Strange... she eyed the machine for a while as his lights slowly dimmed and it remained motionless. Was it dead? Unconscious? Raine was no engineer so she doubted she'd be able to tell with just a look regardless, it seemed that there was no longer any hostility and as such she eased up for the time being. Her hair went limp and lifeless, falling back down to her shoulders as the electricity surrounding her arm began to fizzle out and fade away and her sudden boost in muscle mass gradually sunk away returning the woman to her normal state. Beads of sweat were racing down her forehead and the assassins breathing was heavy as her body was now working to recover from the stress it had just been under. Thankfully she hadn't suffered any sort of major injuries as well during that fight so it wouldn't be too long until she was back in top shape. Approaching the machine's body she only stopped when she was approached by a bleeding man in a marine coat. She had been so caught up in the fight from before that she hadn't even noticed him until now. His injuries seemed pretty bad but nothing life threatening, not like that was her problem of course. "Seems I'm once again caught up in cleaning the messes that your organization can not. How pitiful." She muttered rather coldly as she continued moving towards Jacob and listening to what else the captain had to say to her. The woman's main concern right now though was finding a way to deal with this machine man. The last thing they needed was for him to recover or something come back after them. Knowing well by now that she couldn't break through the metal shell of his body without extensive time or effort she instead searched for some sort of weak point in which to deal a fatal strike to the thing. Perhaps there'd be something at the joints or a hatch she could open up on his body? Perhaps even a jolt of lightning right into the android's mouth to destroy his internal thingamajigs. She really wasn't good when it came to this technological junk. Hell, she spent half of her life living in the wilderness. "Frankly it seems that you need my help much more than I need yours, so I tell you what. I'll allow you to assist us in dealing with this Shichibukai. I don't really require anything more than the chance to go toe to toe with one of those government anointed criminals although I suppose the Vulture will want money or something like that either way. We'll discuss this later. Now help me kill this thing. I need to get going as soon as possible. Knowing Will he's probably already gotten himself into trouble by this point." She was as direct and to the point as ever. |

Mac looked like a walking corpse. He had taken the full brunt of Uncarayne's attack, letting the knife tear through his left thigh. The same was said for Will's sudden strike towards his chest. If it wasn't a vital organ it wasn't necessary to defend to stay alive. The bullet fired from Eve though, now that would be fatal if it hit him. Luckily, just as Uncarayne had received help from Eve and Will, Mac could receive help from a certain Shichibukai who happened to be in the area. Snapping her fingers, Arcadia sent a shockwave flying through the air that intercepted the bullet. The bullet slammed into Mac's shoulder instead. It was still going to hurt but it wasn't going to do too much more detrimental than that. Frankly, Mac was running on fumes. There wasn't much left in the tank, his body had taken a ridiculous beating from three individuals just pushing him around. Technically this was bullying. Uncarayne, Eve and Will were nothing more than a bunch of bullies. As the man hit the toxic ground, his body continued to try and regenerate itself as his flesh continue to try and cover any wounds on his body. "They killed Bobby… Those fucked killed Bobby?" Arcadia on the other hand was on the verge of losing it, having finally seen her dead comrade. That and Mac being smashed around, the Shichibukai was in a tough place. "For fucks sake, urgh I underestimated how badly they'd tunnel vision in on this." The super genius snarled, quickly weighing up her options with all the variables that were involved in this battle. Coney hadn't been fully prepared for this, she expected to roll over these losers with close to no preparation. Maybe if she had brought the main arsenal with them this would have been a brutal stomp but clearly they'd left that where it was for now. "Coney, what the fuck are we going to do? If we keep this up they're just gonna pick us off one by one. Sure, you can probably handle their pile of bullshit but I much prefer my brain attached to the rest of my body. Also two more minutes of that and your wonderboy is going to have his head caved in. There's only so much he can handle even if he's supposed to be invincible." Missy had begun firing potshots into the cesspool that was the 'Mac vs the World' kerfuffle. "Do you know how depressing it is to retreat? Especially when you engage the battle in the first place. Also, I need to rip sparkplug a new one for what she did to Bobby." Arcadia fiddled with her mini den den mushi as well as an assortment of canisters all marked with a host of odd symbols and pictures. Raising her den den up she casually spoke in. "Rhythm, you are still around right?" A simple "Mmm" came through from the other side of the line, causing Coney to sigh. As this point she was finding any reason to stick around but all signs were pointing to the fact that doing so would be next dumb beyond belief. "Fuck all of this. Fine, Rhythm come in and drag out Mac. We need to regroup and pick up some grown up weapons, not this kiddie shit we've been slinging around for most of today. We'll probably have to call in Suhov so we can plan something, uh this is going so poorly." Arcadia crossed her arms having picked one of her canisters and placing the others away. She was quite visibly pissed. If you've ever seen a pissed female in her early twenties you should know that nothing good could ever come of this.
Rhythm however had already dashed into the fight, taking a moment to kick Eve in the head whilst he Devil Fruit was still down before gracefully moving across the air like she was dancing on it. The girl with headphones strung around her neck grabbed Mac from the quagmire, the fighters entire body was essentially just the colour (yep, that's how you spell it). Smiling, the girl swirled and disappeared, reappearing near Arcadia and Missy. "As much as it pains me to do this it looks like I'm going to destroy my own building. You know, I spent a large amount of time and money building this whole island from the ground up. This building was the crown jewel and you people have come along and just wrecked it. Ah, what a waste of blood money. Look, I'm just gonna throw another one of my fancy contraptions and whatever, you should be pretty used to these by now, and then we're gonna retreat and get some actual toys to beat the living crap out of all of you." Arcadia smiled that one smile that a girl has when she's obviously angry at you but she's acting all happy and you kinda just want to hide and die for a bit. Shaking her head, she popped open the canister and released the contents on the ground. A black liquid rolled along the ground, eating the concrete and the quagmires that lay in its path as a silver coloured smog rose into the air. "I'd stay away from the smoke if I were you, inhaling that will mess you up. You can chase us but to do so you have to break through the smoke. It's up to you, right now I'm sure we're going to fight again. In fact I guarantee that I will at least try and crush each one of you for what you did to Bobby. This is your chance to regroup and lick your wounds before I throw the whole fucking book at you."
"I wouldn't recommend chasing if I were you." Henan spoke up from behind a pillar. "I didn't expect you guys to be so good so I just sat back and gathered information, rather impressive actually. I definitely underestimated you two. Also I don't have a clue who you are but your Mythical Zoan is certainly rather impressive. You should consider joining CP9, you could make a very large sum of money." The agent quickly pulled out two knives and cut out the seastone bullet from Will's shoulder, tossing a few bandages to Will, Eve and Uncarayne in the process. "Treat your wounds and you should be good to go. The seastone didn't hit anything vital so you'll live. The Devil Fruit suppression should also wear off soon so you'll be fine, don't worry about that." Henan glanced at the smoke, thinking about whether he wanted to chase. It was tempting to strike down the girl where she stood right now. "Look, you guys might actually chase after them if you're confident in your abilities so I'll be quick. I just got word that the other marine reinforcement we conscripted is dead minus the Captain has been wiped out so that is not good. Apparently he's with a violent whitehaired woman so whatever, we just keep picking up weirdos. We've got limited resources so you're going to have to operate with the idea that there's almost no chance you get helped in mind. If you're going to chase, go. If not, I've instructed everyone to meet up on level seven which is the retail shopping level. We can make a gameplan there and try and finally catch her. After all this hassle I'm going to demand a raise. By the way, take the left stairwell. There are some actual monsters brawling it out in the right one." "Illya, if you're still alive meet us on the fourteenth level, the amusement park. My data currently reads that you're in between the twelfth and thirteenth level so you're not that far away. We're going to try and get down there as fast as possible." Illya's den den mushi relayed a simple message before shutting off again. Argos paid no real notice to it, he was having enough problems with this dickhead to bother with the rest of the army. So it turned out Illya knew Soru. Of course he did. Everyone knew Soru these days, so much for it being a secret technique that had been passed down through generations of Cypher Pol agents. Where did it even get leaked anyway? Urgh, whatever, that was a question for another day. Right now he had his own problems to deal with. Illya was fast, the spear thrusts and melting beam would usually enough to decimate a slower human being. Luckily, Argos was undoubtedly faster. Quickly losing his own footing, the CP9 agent dropped to the ground on his side and pushed forwards. The spear thrusts missed anything vital, hitting only a few bits of the man's shoulders and arms. The beam however tore through the man's right arm, completely disintegrating the bone between the shoulder and the elbow. Argos groaned, sure he was used to losing limbs but every single time it still hurt. "Why not. I guess it's only fitting, only when this nonsense is over I'll get to grow it back and you'll just continue to live a boring existence with one arm." As much as Argos wanted to continue to talk trash, the agent knew he was in a bad place. He needed both arms to deal with Illya, the arsenal of disgusting tricks the centipede man had were problematic as it was. Minus a dominant arm and Argos was going to get crushed if he fought for much longer. Regenerating limbs took a lot of time and focus, doing that now would give Suhov an opening that could just end everything. That left one viable option. Scorched Earth. The suited man hated Scorched Earth. Reluctantly, the man pulled out a single grenade from his jacket pocket. One he carried around at all times for situations just like this one. Shaking his head, he glanced at it for a brief second before putting a finger on the pin. "You know, I hate whenever I have to pull the pin on this grenade. It usually means I'm ceding defeat and need to refocus myself. I haven't had to do this for two years as well, unbelievable." The man began manipulating his hairs and muscles to protect his vital organs, using haki hardening and a segmented form of Tekkai to try and make sure his heart, brain and other important assets were as protected as possible. Scorched Earth was simple, he would drop the grenade and run for it. The grenade itself was composed of Legendary Metal bearings meaning it could slice though almost anything else that existed on the planet. Even if he was damaged he would regenerate himself, although a shot to the head of the wrong part of the chest would usually mean a crippling injury. Afterwards it usually gave him time to regenerate in peace. "Look, if you stick around you're going to die. At least this staircase is going collapse on itself. I'm gonna go meet up with some backup on the seventh floor, I suggest you do the same. We could both go on all day, I'm just breaking the stalemate with something far more exciting." Argos pulled the pin, allowing the grenade to drop. With that, he bolted for the seventh level. The grenade was going off in twenty seconds, this was going to be tight. "Fair enough, you're one of those people who live for the thrill of the hunt eh? Not bad, when I was younger I was the same. I don't nearly have the patience I did back in then." The Captain walked over to the hunkered body of JACOB, there were almost no signs that is had even moved before let along was a threat now. Glancing closely at the wires the marine sighed, he wasn't a genius when it came to this stuff either. "Oh well, even if the robotic parts are impossible to understand there's always the basic human aspect to this." Pulling out two knuckleblades, the marine slashed at the two exposed tendons on JACOB's legs. Nothing else was really open but the severed tendons would be a safety net for now. "Anyway, follow me. We're going to meet up with the few other people who are still alive and on our side." Lawson led Raine to the left staircase and they slowly begun their ascent. Most of the people in the building had congregated on the first level, very few individuals were still occupying any of the higher levels. The left staircase was more or less empty now, allowing the two to have a relatively clear road to the seventh level. "Ok, since you're so interested in fighting Arcadia I'm just going to tell you what I know. Granted it isn't a lot since most of the juicy stuff is restricted for my level but this should give you a general idea oh who exactly you're dealing with. Arcadia is an inventor if you hadn't guessed. A damn good one too. She built this island, granted she was the one to actually destroy what was here in the first place. When you're fighting her be prepared for everything, I do mean everything. That bitch is crazy but she relies on her gadgets far too much. Physically, she's fast and accurate but has the strength and durability of a twig. That's probably the only way you'll have a chance, you'll have to try and deny her from using anything that'll help you out. " As they reached the seventh level, Lawson led the white haired woman to the rendezvous point. "We promised to meet here, I really do hope nothing happened because if we get separated things are going to get dirty fast." |

Whatever response Mac might have given, Uncarayne didn't hear it. In the next moment, there was a great hissing spray of blood from the man's thigh as Uncarayne's hammer tore through it, and Mac's body jerked again: a bullet slammed into his (Mac's) shoulder and William appeared in front of them, looking poorly but still hearty enough for a solid sword-thrust into Mac's chest. He fell forward, splashing into the swampy quagmire of William's feathers, and stayed there as his flesh literally crawled, trying to knit itself back together. Uncarayne huffed, air scraping through his raw throat, but kept an eye on Mac; he could have been playing dead or down - From behind came a stream of expletives from Arcadia. Uncarayne could only marvel at the dissonance between her apparent youthfulness and the crudeness of her speech. He didn't turn around, trusting in Eve and William to see if he was about to get shot at or anything; Mac was the main thing at the moment, even if the man was partially submerged in poisonous ooze with a deep thigh wound. That man was dangerous, and... needed to be put down, sooner rather than later. Uncarayne raised his hammer, his fingers poised to begin the spinning that would give it the cutting momentum to put Mac down at least long enough for the Cipher Pol to take him away wherever they planned to keep him. Before he could, though, Arcadia moved behind him, and he shifted himself slightly, too; not enough to take his eyes off of Mac, but enough to allow him to see Arcadia if he looked sideways hard enough. It was a den den mushi, and she was cursing into it, calling for... backup. His eyes widened, and immediately his hammer came up - Not fast enough. Nowhere near fast enough, in fact. Arcadia had barely stopped speaking into the den den mushi when the new girl appeared. Her headphones were a blur in the air as she appeared, kicked Eve - Uncarayne couldn't help having turned to watch, and he started towards her, outraged - and before the next blink or step, she had simply appeared behind him, hauled Mac out of the swamp with a sick, sucking noise, and returned to Arcadia's and Missy's side. All that, and without any apparent effort, either. Arcadia already had a canister out, and Uncarayne shifted tacks - if that was another one of those Devil Fruit bombs, or actually any kind of bomb at all - and then she dumped it on the ground and vanished through the silver mist. Uncarayne stared as Arcadia, Missy, Rhythm, and Mac faded from their sight; contrary to what she'd said, it didn't seem to affect them at all. They probably had antidotes or training to withstand that sort of thing, thought Uncarayne, but it probably meant they wouldn't anticipate a good solid fireball in their backs... "Oh, Henan!" said Uncarayne, interrupted in his thoughts by the Cipher Pol agent, and when he'd got back into the moment, the figures were beyond aim. "When did you get up here?" He deliberately let the other remarks go by, though it definitely smacked of being the cannon fodder to soak up Arcadia's techniques before the man planned to intervene. To use the Lightning Logia as cannon fodder, though... that was definitely something to wonder about, the way the Cipher Pol had simply put them in there; it was nice to have exceeded expectations, of course, but . He accepted the bandages happily enough, though, and bound one around his leg where Bobby's scald-water had struck it; putting a bandage around a neck, on the other hand, didn't seem quite such a smart thing to do. At any rate, William's pill was doing him a world of good, though he thought he would definitely like a good stiff drink right about then. "Glad to hear that," he said, still rasping a little, and winced. Eve and William weren't looking so great, either, and he himself... yeah, this was a great time for a break, as the adrenaline slowly left his body, pains and aches filling up the space it left behind. Then again - Arcadia had said she was about to blow up the place, hadn't she? That definitely sounded like the kind of thing you were supposed to react to in a hurry, but haste made waste, but he wasn't all that great at making plans and now he was just arguing around himself in circles... He made a face, scratching the back of his head. This really seemed like the kind of thing somebody else should have been doing: he just wanted a good drink and a place to nap. Preferably not inside a soon-to-be-destroyed building that was built out in the middle of the sea. The white-haired woman had sounded a lot like somebody, too: "Was she scary beyond all belief?" he asked Henan, already making for the stairwell. "Because I know a woman with white hair who's scary beyond all belief!" He grinned, his good mood restored now that the immediate peril was at least a little less immediate. "I think we'll do the shopping thing, actually. How about you, Eve, Will?" Edited by pantherasapiens, Apr 8 2015, 03:14 AM.

"Unca!" The hole in the little cabin became far larger as Eve planted a fist at its edges, sending planks and sawdust flying as she tore her way back out into the open. It was hard to tell precisely what was going down in the furious jumble of limbs and attacks, but Eve was confident she had contributed in taking the roid-raging buffoon down. Maybe he didn't have the serious brain damage Eve wished for, but a bullet was a bullet. A disgusting squelch marked their landing into the ooze that had started to litter the hallway and Eve was careful to keep her distance so none of it could seep its way into her now vunverable form as it splattered the walls and floor. She took a step forward as the fight settled to try and offer a Unca hand, but caught herself mid-step. "Arcadia!" The gleam of Eve's rifle caught the hall lights as she pointed it like an accusatory finger. "You've no damn right to complain about any of this. Everything that happens today, everyone who gets hurt is on your head. And we'll take apart your little circle bit by bit until you realize it!" Words which, much to Eve's dismay she was forced to eat. Before she could pull the trigger on either Arcadia or her remaining lackey, a blur in the corner of her caught her attention. She barely had time to maneuver her rifle to block before a foot came grinding along it, sending a shower of sparks into the air and then connecting with the side of Eve's head, just above her ear. Pain exploded across her face and forced her teeth down on her own tongue once the momentum picked up her body and sent it cascading over and then along the concrete tiles. A loud groan filled Eve's ears as she picked herself back onto her feet. Blood ran along the grooves and pattern of the floor as it dripped from both the gash on her head and as she spat liberal amounts from a red mouth. She grimaced and glared at Miss Hall as she beat and blocked her retreat. Something foul was sworn under Eve's breath as her feet planted themselves on the ground. One eye was already swelling and closed while the other was at risk of being blinded by blood. "We can't just let them..." It was a hip shot under less than optimal firing conditions with an added smoke screen, but Eve took it anyway. She had spare bullets aplenty that she slammed into the feeding tube as the old whizzed through the silver fog obscuring their path. Eve had no idea what it was, but seeing how it had eaten up the floor and poison like lava did plantlife she was not confident going through it would help. Arcadia didn't seem the bluffing type - they had taken one of her own, and any self-respecting Shichibukai would take every and all chances at redeeming such a slight against them. A fist slammed the nearby wall, leaving a small crack in it. "They're not getting away," Eve stated as fact. "Not permanently. We'll... we'll track them back down and- and-" She shook her head. It went without saying and her jaw hurt too much to make too much coherent speech. It gave her a chance to survey the damage, as well as those who had participated in it. "Salty?" It was a surprise that left Eve slightly agape, but it served to explain some things. She pointed at a small quagmire. "Your doing?" she asked while walking over to what was left of the little hut. Inside was a body. Eve stopped to force herself to look, and then knelt down and picked up the guitar bag that she had discarded upon revealing the weapon originally stored within. The bag held one more rolled up item, which she unfurled and flung over her shoulders in a flourish of white cloth and a long, drawn out sigh. "Henan, sir!" Eve exclaimed with a salute as she stepped out the hut. She spat a little more blood as neatly as possible. "I apologize for not being able to apprehend the target. We got one of them..." A quick glance at the hut. "...But Arcadia is, well... she's got a lot of tricks up her sleeve." If her parting words were anything to go by, they'd have even more to deal with next they meet. When that meeting would be, Eve did not know. What she did know what they were all injured and Henan was by far the most experienced in such missions. Regrouping where he advised may as well have been an order so far as Eve was concerned. "I'm with you there buddy," she said while patting her fellow whitecoat on the back. It helped stop her fists from shaking at the news of their comrades being wiped out, but at least reinforcements of some kind were on the way. William became the target of a quick glance; she didn't know exactly who Henan was referring to, but given the appearance of Salty, Eve had a good guess. Raine G. Argose. The Jacks of All Trades and its top dogs preceded them. "We'll go to the seventh floor," Eve said while giving the wall a much more gentle knock. "This entire building will be full of wiring and metal supports. Even if Arcadia slips past us again, I should be able to get around and outmaneuver her as soon as this gunk slides off." Luckily, the seastone-esque juice was doing just that. Soon Eve would have full access to her powers again, and she was determiend to use them to their fullest extent in catching Arcadia. With one last touch at her bruised and throbbing jaw, Eve picked up her rifle, slung it on one shoulder and headed towards the stairwell. She glanced at the silvery fog with a look almost as acidic."Come on, let's not waste any more time." |

Illya watched as his spear thrusts failed to hit any of the vital organs on his opponent, instead the seastone blade hitting the shoulder and top of the arm. Argos was indeed fast, faster than anyone that the pirate had encountered so far, save perhaps the eyeless creature on Gargantifal. Fortunately for the doctor, he did not need to hit the agent's vitals for the seastone to take its effect. He only needed it to touch the skin to render his opponent's powers null and void. And the hits on the shoulders and the arms were enough, the beam of heat that erupted from the inventor's eyes disintegrating the man's right arm from shoulder to elbow, everything that falling to the ground with a wet plop. Finally, he was able to cause some significant damage to Argos. Being a Phoenix, the man would undoubtedly regenerate it so the martial artist would need to press his advantage if he hoped to put his opponent down. Unfortunately, Arcadia had decided to call a retreat and regroup on level fourteen while he was somewhere between twelve and thirteen himself. Fortunately, it seemed that the Marines were calling a regroup as well. And really, with his last giant expenditure of energy combined with the damage sustained earlier in the fight, Illya was feeling a bit under the weather and could use a breather himself as well. "Who cares about two arms when you can have fifty?" the pirate asked snidely as he tried to bring his breathing to a level point. The longer the man continued talking, the longer the doctor had to regain his stamina. He certainly went overboard with his last set of attacks but it did produce the desired result. The result could have been better but being able to cripple his opponent for even a few minutes would be all he needed to finish the fight. It seemed that the man did not want to part amicably, not that the inventor could blame him, as the former pulled out some sort of grenade. "The upside is that if you can pull the pin is that you are still alive so there's that." the martial artist quipped as he watched the grenade carefully. It seemed that whatever the grenade did, it was extensively damaging. If a Phoenix user was afraid or at least reluctant to use it, then it seemed that Illya would have to be careful as well, considering that the grenade was able to destroy the staircase that had yet to melt from the application of all that heat. As such, it would probably be a good idea to get the hell out of here as well. As much as the pirate wanted to chase after the agent and put the end to him once and for all, the fact that said agent was way faster than him and the fact that the agent was heading towards a group of Marines meant that chasing after him was a pretty bad idea. "Guess we'll meet again soon enough." the doctor said as he watched Argos pull the pin and drop the grenade to the ground. He did not know how much time he had but probably not too long. Feeling like he had back as much stamina as he could, the inventor shot off a beam of heat at the retreating's man's back before turning around and jumping into the air, before pushing off the very air itself and launching himself onto the staircase above before sprinting up the remaining staircase to level fourteen, yanking the door open and sprinting down the hallway, trying to get as far away from the staircase as possible. Several moments later there was loud boom and the hallway shook. Suddenly there was a quick burning sensation in his arm, one that quickly disappeared as his body refused to accept the pain, and looking down, the one armed man saw a nice singed hole in his armour with blood starting to pour out of the wound. Glancing back, he saw several small holes in the the floor, walls, and the ceiling of the hallway. It was lucky that he was only hit by one. As he headed down the hallway, he added the wound as another thing he would need to fix before fighting again. Eventually, Illya made his way out into the open, spotting Arcadia and her goons after several minutes of looking around. A closer look revealed that this group as worse for wear as well, especially Mac, and it appeared that Bobby was missing, probably dead, not that the pirate cared either way. "Well, things are definitely not going according to plan, huh?" the doctor asked redundantly as he allowed his armour to retreat into the bands on his body. Rooting around his pocket, the inventor pulled out a small box, flipping open the lid and pulling out two pills. Tossing one to the nearest person to Mac, he popped the second one into his mouth, feeling immediately as his skin began to knit close, staunching the blood flow from his arm. "As long as he remains alive and breathing for the next twenty four hours, he should make a complete recovery as long as he takes as pill." the one armed man said as he leaned on his spear. Truth be told, he was not sure about the extent of Mac's injuries so it could very well be that he would still die but that was probably something that they would not want to hear right now. "So I take it it was not your plan to seal us in the same building as several very powerful Marines?" Illya asked, finding himself a seat and sitting down, letting his feet take a breather. "I hope that you have some way of quickly dissolving this seastone aside from letting it do so naturally? Cause otherwise we are pretty fucked with only two staircases available to us and both will be guarded by Marines from the below. This would be a mighty great time to reveal that there is a secret staircase that the Marines don't know about." the pirate continued, having absolutely no desire to face off against Argos again, not to mention the Marines that managed to kill one and severely injure a member of Arcadia's crew. Granted that it was quite possible that Arcadia's crew was shit tier, which could be both a good and a bad thing. For a variety of reasons, ones that he did not feel like thinking about now. |

Will watched as Mac dropped into the quagmires, which were thinning more and more as they expanded outside the corridor. Mac was clearly still alive, battered to the bone, but alive still. What kind of monster is this guy? Will thought to himself. He only hoed he could take half as much punishment as this guy. The sea stone bullet was reducing even the effectiveness of the pill William had just taken, and he felt tired beyond belief. Arcadia seemed to realize finally that Bobby was toast. Will himself wasn’t sure, but if Eve had a very powerful ability, and if she was able to shoot outside twice, then her opponent must have been out of commission. Will was forced to dodge away as Missy started firing bullets their way, so he couldn’t attack Mac some more, though he didn’t really want to as the guy wasn’t in any condition to raise even a finger. From Arcadia’s and Missy’s conversation, It looked like they were retreating, which is the opposite of what Will would have done in their situation, but then again, he didn’t have any more arsenal than what he was carrying so it would be pointless for him to retreat from a fight. He shuddered to think what Arcadia was going to bring out this time. Better not be some more of those sea stone bullets that follow people around. he thought with a sour grin. This Rhythm person showed up so quickly Will was genuinely surprised. As she grabbed Mac, Will tried to follow her using soru, but it only carried him out of the corridor, after that he lost her completely. By the time he came back, Arcadia and company had released some sort of foul looking toxic gas that kept everyone from following. His quagmires looked rather inadequate compared to that, which depressed him a little, though he supposed having an endless supply of feathers and not needing to spend money on them was a perk that Arcadia can’t achieve no matter how much of a genius she is. "Let’s not follow. We can take this opportunity to strategize to..." he started telling Uncarayne, but someone came out of a corner and pretty much said the same thing. "No thanks. Assassinating on orders isn’t really my style." he responded to Henan’s brief, and probably not even sincere, invite to join the cypher pole. He didn’t doubt these guys were necessary and had some good impact on humanity if you squint really hard and use some forced logic, but he liked his business kept in the open better, for the same reasons he wouldn’t want to be a pirate even though he’s pretty whacky most of the time. Eve apparently only wizened up to the fact that he was here right now, which made sense seeing as he was flying all the time and she was in a wooden box. "Oh, hey Eve. How have you been? I just happened to be in the building. I was going to negotiate some honest business with Arcadia, seeing as she owns pretty much everything and everyone on this island, but you guys happened." This guy took the initiative to cut Will’s bullet out of his shoulder quickly. The doctor had mixed feelings about this. It was both well appreciated given his left arm wasn’t in its best condition, but being operated on by someone else left a sour taste in his mouth. Nonetheless, he accepted the bandages gracefully, though he already had his own, and listened to all that this guy said. Apparently Raine was with one of their associates in the seventh floor, or heading there. William found himself a kitchen in one of the restaurants, and then washed himself clean of all the poison. After that, he brought out his medical kit and sewed his wound before bandaging it. It didn’t take long, seeing as the CP9 agent’s skill with a knife wasn’t messy at all. It was almost surgical. "Let’s go!" he responded to Eve and Uncarayne. “And yeah, Raine is here too, I left her on the first floor fighting some sort of human-robot and came to help you, which brings me to the question I’ve had in mind since I stepped on this forsaken building. Why in the seven hells are you always involved in the most freakishly dangerous marine missions? Can't you just play it safe from time to time? "Good job on fighting Mac though…" When they arrived near the stairs, he said: "I’m gonna fly there, it’s quicker. Eve has her own way of going about quickly, so Unca, you can climb on my back if you want." He transformed into his much bigger hybrid form, which provided more room for supporting someone on his back. When they arrived at the seventh floor, he found Raine already there. "Hey Raine, I take it the robot is no more? We’ve been busy on our side too. Turns out Warlords aren’t half bad, though this one prefers to hide behind gadgets and tricks too much, even for my taste. We killed one of her subordinates and critically injured another, but she made it extremely difficult to get to her." |

Raine didn't care much for the marine comparing himself to her right about now. After all, he had been the one who needed her help and had been brought down by the robot from earlier. No matter, they were not enemies and she would not really open her mouth just for the sole purpose of souring this moment. Instead she continued to work on finding a way to kill Jacob while the opportunity to do so was as simple as it is right now. There seemed to be little to no opening when it came to hitting something vital though and there was no way she'd waste time and effort in slamming her fists into his chaste until she broke through. In the end it seemed she would have to opt for the simple solution provided by Lawson which was to handicap the creation, slicing his tendons and leaving him on the ground. Leaving a potentially deadly enemy just lying on the ground left a bad taste in her mouth but she continued on nonetheless. It would at least serve to lower his threat factor. Reaching the stair case she followed behind Lawson as they made a steady ascent. She was feeling anxious and in a bit of a rush but didn't mind taking it somewhat slow right now, it allowed herself some time to rest and recoup from the strain from her earlier fight as well as giving the woman time to look out for surprise attacks. There was still noise coming from various parts of the building as if people were just slamming each other into walls but nothing seemed immediately threatening to them. "Any amount of information you have is helpful. You can never know too much about your prey." She responded to the marine before he went into telling what he knew, which truly wasn't that great but she made mental notes of it all just in case. In short, as long as she didn't have access to her equipment the woman was a pretty easy target. Rather light on her feet but the same could definitely be said about Raine and if it came down to it she could further increase her own natural swiftness in order to decisively put the woman down. "It would not surprise me to know that she was responsible for that thing downstairs, hm. And if she has one of them then I wouldn't put it pass the woman to have more. At least based on what you've told me and what little I knew before." It wasn't long before the group managed to reach the 7th floor now and his group that he was supposed to be meeting was nowhere to be seen. "Perhaps they have already perished." She spoke in a rather dry tone, not really caring of what happened to the rest of his men. She was more focused on getting through with this. Judging by the various stores with clothing, games, snacks and what have you it seemed they were in some sort of shopping floor. What a great rendezvous point, huh? Soon enough though she was met with a familiar metallic face this time around now, a bird man swooping into the area that could have been none other than Will. Judging by how worn out he looked it seemed that there had been a fight, just as she had expected. Not like she could talk though considering how worse for wear she likely appeared right now. Interestingly enough though there was also Uncarayne with him, and another marine whom she didn't recognize. Being a bounty hunter she often stayed on the up and up in terms of pirates and their bounties but probably couldn't even name more than a couple of Vice Admirals or something off the top of her head. "Good, that will make things much easier for us when we go for her. The thinner the numbers the better. Seems you managed to find the drunkard." She referred specifically to Uncarayne this time around although it seemed he was less inebriated this time around than the last time she had run into him. Perhaps it was because he was on duty this time around rather than running around with a bunch of bounty hunters. "This marine says there's supposed to be some sort of rendezvous here but I'm not seeing anything. Also, given that you've run into Arcadia and battled her first hand information would be helpful before going into this/" She continued to speak to William and Uncarayne, not really paying much mind to Eve. |

The stairwell had collapsed to the ground, leaving only rubble behind. Not that it particularly mattered anymore, everything was crumbling down. Arcadia glanced at Mac, who had been laid out on the floor by Rhythm. The amusement park provided a decent enough cover despite all the rides having died in the power outage. Arcadia picked up Illya's pill, twirled it around to examine it before handing it back. "That's useless here, Mac is going to bleed out far before that takes effect. Heck, his heart is literally being held together right now by 'The Black'." Arcadia glanced at Mac's side, the black ooze desperately trying to mend the fighter's flesh together. "Ah, fuck it all. Mac, can you hear me?" "Urgh… Sure… Maybe." A weak voice forced its way out of the body of the black haired man. His voice box had been hit pretty hard, enough to shatter something vital before being mended together again. "Yeah, I know… what you're… going to… say… Yes…" Arcadia sighed, pulling a syringe with a gold liquid out of one of her many pockets. "You know there's no going back from this right? This is a one way road to hell, you've probably already sold your soul to the devil but this is like giving it away to a homeless guy." Mac simply smiled, nodding his head. The Shichibukai nodded, taking the needle and stabbing it straight into the man's throat. Just like that, Mac started fidgeting around like crazy, his hair turning a pure white colour. Arcadia sighed, standing up and facing Illya. "It's based on something I learnt from a fellow scientist I met in my travels. Of course I perfected it but it's still probably dangerous. It accelerates all of his bodily functions by three hundred times, blood flow, reactions, healing ability. Doesn't affect aging for some reason though, I don't actually know why but I couldn't care less right now. 'The Black' also helps with the healing, 'The Gold' just amplifies it. Only drawback is it accelerates his lifespan as well. It's a band aid fix, if that band aid caused your heart to eventually explode." Arcadia just shook her head, watching as her friend struggled to stay alive. Everything was going to shit so fast it was ridiculous. Well this was to be expected, there were always going to be outliers in her calculations. They had stocked up on new toys already, picking up what they needed on the way to the amusement park. Everything they needed was in place, all that mattered now was how they were going to play this one out. "All the secret passages don't get us to the secret passage, breaking out of the building is certainly possible but that's the equivalent of lining ourselves up nicely to get shot by how many other forces are out there. There is another strategy though, if you decide to avoid the stairway like a plague." The Shichibukai indicated to the point on the floor she was standing. "The rest of the building is made of a compound of multiple indestructible materials, however there's a point on every floor where it's made of something far less tough. All it takes is one strong strike and you have a highway to the bottom floor. Only problem is you set fireworks off for anyone. It's risky, there's also the stairway option that allows us to be stealthy if you think that's better. Either way, this is going to be rough." "Fuck me, it's still a fucking pain every single time." Argos felt as his body slowly regenerate, both of his arms, his right leg and half his torso had been severely damaged by the blast in addition to the other injuries he'd acquired over the course of today. The man leaned against the wall, hunched over as he focused on making sure he would be able to act like a normal, functioning psychopath with superpowers. This process took a significant toll on his body, his stamina was slowly being screwed over by the flames flickering around his wounds. Standing up, Argos swallowed a few pills and started walking towards the designated meeting point, the majority of the heavy lifting had been done. As he entered the floor, Henan just glanced at Argos and smirked at his injured comrade. "You look like you're doing just fine. Was the centipede too much for you? C'mon, you need to get your shit together if you plan on crushing an insect into smithereens. Need to step up Mr Second-in-Command-of-CP9." The knife user glanced at Argos's injuries as they healed, there were at least three wounds that would have been fatal if it had been caused to anyone but this glorified parrot. "I didn't prepare myself properly, if I ever end up meeting Suhov again I assure you there will be no easy outs for him. If I have to go beyond to crush him I will. However this does bring up an inherent problem, it seems very likely that Igloo has turned on un. Of course, it is possible Suhov has defected and is looking to join some other side but we may have yet another threat to think about as we move forward. There's been a lot of upheaval recently, doesn't surprise me that the other pieces are stirring." "He's replaceable and certainly ambitious, I wouldn't be too concerned since he doesn't possess the potential to monumentally shift the power. We'll deal with that later, we have many more problems that are important now. So, I can attest that O'Brien, Senba and the other one can hold their own weight. They're still very rough but still serviceable, could have been a lot worse. Lawson, what about this woman?" "She's irrational. Definitely strong enough to hold her weight but I feel as though her personality may cause a lot of difficult situations to arise in her future." The marine tilted his head to the side, he knew there was good chance he was one of the weaker people in the room right now. Oh well, that meant he would just have to do less work. Nothing really lost there. "Fair enough, I haven't actually been involved in combat yet so I'm still reasonably fresh. We'll just have to play this smoothly, I have no clue how many other tricks she has up her sleeve but I'd hazard a guess it's more than all our fingers added together. We have an eye on the remaining stairwell so we do have a slight advantage there. However, this should be bumpy, I hope they're all ready." Henan glanced at the four individuals who somehow all knew each other. It was funny how fate brought people back together, most of the time into situation that screwed people over. |

[OOC: It's okay! Hope things are going better for you now man.] "That's the spirit!" said Uncarayne encouragingly to Eve as he put a hand on William's back and flattened himself onto it, looking like nothing so much as a human-sized backpack. "We're definitely going to take Arcadia down!" He thought for a moment. "Probably need to figure out a way around her bombs and things so she can't do that runaway thing again, though, won't we?" He made a face. "Ought to be something we can do about that..." Then he shrugged, beaming even though William wouldn't be able to see it. "Raine! Called it. Bet that poor robot's shivering for its little robot life right about now." He chuckled a little at the image - and then at William's question. "You're one to talk though - aren't you the one running around the giant evil little girl's lair getting shot? And also, technically this isn't a Marine mission! It's a CP9 mission!" he said, one finger extending out of William's back as they plummeted down the elevator shaft and wagging for emphasis. "Not," he said thoughtfully, "that that really improves the odds..." On the seventh floor, Uncarayne slid down from William's back, over his legs, and onto the floor before he popped out, rubbing himself all over. William's pill was still active, and his wounds were slowly scabbing over, but he still hurt. "Oh, Raine!" he said, slightly awkward; they hadn't really had very much interaction yet and she was still scary beyond all belief even when she looked like she'd been battered and burnt. "What William said," he said, flopping backwards to lean against a wall. Almost by reflex, his upper body flattened into the wall where he was touching it, leaving his legs extending out onto the floor. "Smoke bombs, Devil Fruit juice bombs, and all manner of dial things. She even had that one that repelled Will's goo!" He shook his head disbelievingly. "Oh, also, she said she was going to blow this whole place up, so uhhhh. Maybe we should be worrying about that a little bit?" He said the last part while giving Henan and Argos a sidelong glance; the two of them had just been standing off by the side while talking. "Or something, I guess..." He coughed, rubbing his throat as he slid down the wall to a sitting position. "And besides, she's still got Missy and Rhythm and Mac, maybe not Mac, I dunno?" |

The sludge finally began to slide off. Bobby's dying breath slipping away proper. Where there was once a patch of cold, like Eve was being engulfed by snow, warmth started to return and with it a few faint crackles of lightning that grew more confident as the last of the seastone-infused goop liquefied and dripped to the ground before dissolving into nothing. Eve flexed her fingers and let the sparks dance around them until she was sure her abilities were fully reinstated. She breathed a long sigh of relief. "Thank the Admirals for that." Eve had the impression she had been picked for the mission specifically on account of her Devil Fruit. To lose it, or at least have it nullified, more permanently didn't bear to mind. Their boots clattered on the way to the stairwell and Eve couldn't help gazing around at the now-empty mall. It was a stark contrast and almost creepy to see it so devoid of life. Before it had been packed with buyers and sellers alike, but the power outage and subsequent fighting must have seen most run off, or otherwise hide. "You know, its a good chance, Salty." She fixed him with a glance as they went past one of the larger restaurants, a lively and colorful place selling tacos and burritos. The mascots, with their cheery faces and welcoming arms looked utterly out of place. "I heard about what you did in Sicillie. You're a good guy. Besides, if you've got this saint following you," she said with a large smile, while nudging Unca in the ribs, "then you've gotta be doing something right. With a Government contract, you could be doing way more." A sudden, skeptical expression struck her. "...I mean, it'd be more stuff like, well..." A swooping hand gestured to the cracked walls and floors. "More stuff like all this. We get the, uh, 'fun' missions 'cause we're suited to them, I guess? Great power, great responsibility, something like that. You get the picture." It took only a few seconds for Eve's face to droop and a hand to start rubbing her forehead as if trying to dislodge a headache. "...Anyway..." Eve wasn't plagued by just one problem, but another - the entire time they had been walking, she had felt the sensation of being watched. Something that went beyond just the security Den Den Mushi's staring at them from the ceilings. It came to a peak as they approached the stairway; a rustling sound from a nearby cafe brought her to a slow and then a full stop. She looked over, past the dead neon signs and menus, at a table cloth which seemed to be shivering. Cautiously, she approached. Whimpering touched her ears, and it came as no real surprise to find a pair of children grasping each other tightly under the cloth. They tried to scream when Eve discovered them, but panic had their throats in a choking grip. She tried her best to smile, and offered a hand of peace. When they flinched away from it, she tried a different tactic and pulled the coat from her shoulders to show them. "Its okay. Look." The children obviously recognized it, enough to calm down a little. "Don't worry. We're the good guys." Fear began to change into wide-eyed curiosity. "M-Mom says the Marines are bad. That they just wanna put everyone down and take all their money." Eve almost bit her tongue. "Uh." There was a moment of silence as she knelt there trying to think of what to say. "Well... okay, look kid, sometimes even adults make the wrong decisions. I'll prove to you that we're the goodies. We're gonna make all this bad stuff stop and, and..." No sign of anyone else hiding in that store. "...and we'll find your mom for you. For now though, just stay in here, okay? Maybe, I dunno... take some ice cream from the back. Wait until me, your mom, or another Marine comes to get you. Understand?" They nodded and huddled a little more comfortably together. "Right." With one last wave, she got up and left to rejoin the others, her face crimson and almost venting steam. "Oh man, I can not handle kids. Did I do okay? Come on, lets get out of here. I don't wanna say something dumb and mess them up. Jeez." There was the stairs, and the elevator Eve and Unca had originally used. Without power though, they couldn't even call the latter. Fortunately, Eve didn't need to. "I'll see you down there," she called as William and Unca flew off. She, meanwhile, slid her fingers between the outer elevator doors and pried them open with a grunt. As she had suspected, the shaft was bordered with metal girders and supports, as well as some thick cables. May as well have been a highway for her. Grabbing a rung of the emergency ladder, she swung round and grabbed at the nearest metal pillar. There was a quick flash and Eve was riding through the iron unobstructed. The seventh floor took maybe an instant to arrive at. She didn't have to wait long for them all to be regrouped outside a fancy clothes store. For the most part, Eve remained quiet as her superiors mulled over the situation. It was good to see another enlisted face, less so another bounty hunter with an apparent chip on her shoulder. "Suhov..." she muttered as Argos and Henan conversed in familial terms. The name rung a bell, a bad one. She was positive she had seen the name - and its corresponding ugly face - somewhere among the old bounty poster collection they kept aboard the Pheasant. The dropping of 'Igloo' sealed the deal for Eve. There was only one man she could think of that the higher-ups ever gave a name like that. The very same man that Suhov worked for. "...Kazehara is involved in this?" Another shichibukai. Another one potentially gone rogue. And his agent, here? That same feeling Eve had felt upon facing down Arcadia for the very first time, when that door had been opened to reveal that crew, began to bubble ever so slightly in her stomach. Unease. Enough to make her feel a little sick. She rubbed at her forehead again. No, she told herself. No, no, no. Don't worry about that. Don't think about it. Just concentrate on Arcadia for now. Cross that bridge when you get to it. One deep breath later, and the feeling started to fade. "We've got the stairwell, sure, but with all due respect sir, I don't think Arcadia would be stupid enough to use it. She's arrogant but... smart." It felt wrong to praise that woman. "She built this whole place, saw us coming and ambushed us, had ways to counter each of our powers." Eve started to pace back and forth, glancing at the floors and the ceiling and all the stores around them. "This is her palace. Even Arcadia isn't so much up her own ass that she wouldn't have an emergency escape plan. She can't have been stupid enough to seal herself in too. She's gotta have some way of getting out." And then it hit. Eve's eyes fell onto their potential savior and she ran to him and slapped her hands down on his shoulders. "Unca!" she nearly shouted. "You're good with buildings and architecture and stuff, right? Maybe you can find... I dunno, anything! Some kind of hidden maintenance shaft or, or... a secret elevator? If you built this place and needed a quick getaway, what would you do?" techs |

Illya took back the pill that was offered back to him, curious as to what Arcadia would have in store for Mac. Would she simply let him bleed out onto the floor? From what he had seen so far, that was highly unlikely that the Shichibukai would simply let her underling die just like that. No, it was far more likely that she had another ace up her sleeve. It seemed that her sleeves were filled entirely with aces, which really was not surprising given that she was physically incompetent so to speak. The pirate watched curiously as the female pulled out a syringe filled with a gold liquid before injecting it straight into the man's throat, talking sappily about Mac's soul or some crap like that. It did not really matter to the doctor much. What did matter were the almost immediate effects of the liquid on the man's body and Arcadia's subsequent transformation, the effect in question being the turning of the man's hair into a pure white color. Now that was really something. And then came the explanation. If this was the perfected version of the drug, the inventor really did not want to see the effects of the imperfect versions. While the increase in the reaction time was a rather interesting and useful addition, considering that before Mac was completely useless in the fight, if his current predicament was anything to go by, the one armed man questioned the decision of giving this liquid when it sped up blood flow, something that Arcadia was worried about in the first place. After all, the faster the flow rate, the faster Mac was going to bleed out. It would have been better to use his pill to stop the bleeding, something that it would have done in a fairly short order given that the heart was being held together by that black goo. And only then would he had given Mac the golden liquid to further the healing and give him the extra reaction time. Hell, taking both the pill and the liquid could only improve the rate of regeneration. Maybe the Shichibukai knew something else and was simply not telling him all the details. That was quite possible and quite probably as well. She did not rise to that rank by telling the entire truth. Either way, he now had one more pill that he would definitely need before the day was over. It seemed that maybe having a secret staircase that led to the secret passage might have been a good idea but Illya held his tongue as the female outlined the options that they had to getting to the passage. Almost immediately the pirate threw out the staircase option for being far too stupid. "Considering that there is now only one staircase and the fact that the Marines and Co are on the floor beneath us, they will have the staircase watched and guarded, just waiting for us to come to them. And they will most likely wipe the floor with us like they did with Mac and Bobby. So unless you have some sort of way to hide on a staircase being watched by dozens of eyes, the staircase is simply not an option." the inventor replied, rotating his arm at the shoulder, pleased to find that he had gotten most if not all range of movement back. He would need to be at his top condition if he had any hope of defeating Argos again. Now that they both knew what each other was capable off, their next fight would be that much harder. "As for breaking through the floor, I think this is our best option. After all, we would certainly have the element of surprise on our side. Doubt they expect us to break through the floor all the way to the bottom. Now, the main problem is going to be fighting however we encounter, which would be Argos no matter the plan we go through. And I assume there was at least one devil fruit user in the group you fought against? I hope you have some way of countering them, preferably something like seastone dust or something like that that can get into their bodies. I have some seastone with me, but it would not be enough to take on all of them. Also, if you have a good way, beside seastone, to kill a Phoenix user, that would be appreciated." the doctor said as he scooped up his spear and commanded his armour to reseal his body. Even if they were safe for the moment, that did not mean that the Marines would not launch a surprise attack and he needed to be ready. "As for the breakable floor, how would we go about doing that? Are all these weak spots lined up or will we have to find them on each floor? And if they are lined up, would a single blast of a lazer be enough to break through them all?" the one armed man asked. He would have preferred to have each spot lined up so that they would not need to waste their time. If not, hopefully the spot on the seventh floor was not anywhere near the Marines. The bugman was not entirely sure if his heat beam would be able to do the job even if they were. It would certainly blast through a single floor but could it do so through all fourteen. It could certainly go the distance in air but through rock and air? That was the million dollar question. But then again, Arcadia would not have made the suggestion if she did not have a way of breaking through the floor. Perhaps he should leave that to her and conserve his power? That was certainly worthy consideration. He would need to hear how the Shichibukai responded before he made his decision. |

Raine seemed relatively unharmed. If that robot was anywhere as sturdy as some of Arcadia’s other creations that he’d witnessed then William had better get stronger fast if he wants to keep up with her. He was still a little bit salty that Arcadia could handle him and his mythical power so well. She had to forfeit protecting Mac of course, and forcing her to retreat was no easy feat considering her status and assumed strength, but not even getting close enough to put a scratch on her was pissing him off the more he thought about it. "Yeah, the drunkard is here alright." he said trying to hide the annoyance in his voice, since Raine really had nothing to do with it in truth. Unacaryne’s reminder that his… “goo” was repelled didn’t serve to improve his mood. Yet what he said afterwards got him thinking. He knew he had to voice this thought though since Mac was enough of a threat to tip the scale of the battle: “What if Mac actually didn’t die? It’s a long shot, but if she can make smoke that is even more toxic than my quagmires, I really can’t imagine her being incapable to keep Mac in fighting trim. She didn’t abandon him like Bobby’s body either, though that might be because she just wanted to heal him. Caring about her family and all that.” He trailed off for a moment until he remembered that Raine asked about the rendezvous and continued: "Yeah, this is apparently a Cypher Pole 9 mission, not just a regular marine one so some secret agents will be along anytime now. If I’m not mistaken the ninth cypher pole are more influential than most other such services, which explains them being in charge of this. They are also probably very strong, so we better put on our A game and prepare to fight as hard as we can, and then fight some more. We have the thunder logia on our side too." he gestured towards Eve who he noticed was paying attention to the arriving CP9 members a small distance away from them. “This is our opportunity to shine is all I’m saying. Now let’s talk information. Arcadia herself didn’t allow us to get near enough to attack. I’m the only one who attacked her to be sure, and didn’t particularly focus on her, but raining dozens of feathers on three people and only being able to injure two is rather telling. She used some sort of device to repel the gooey melt of the feathers too, and guard another of her crewmates, and then she gave that same crewmate a sea stone bullet that can track people and moves faster than I can normally see. After that she used a foul black smoke that I could tell was extremely toxic just by smelling it from afar, though I wasn’t close enough to see what it does to people who touch it and frankly I didn’t want to be. The crewmate who fired the bullet was called Missy. She has better eyes than me and better marksman skills, though I would have defeated her hadn’t I been prioritizing the more threatening crewmate, who is called Mac. He’s pretty much a beast. Strong like Unca here but sturdier, faster and can use armament haki. Oh and Missy also could tell my position without looking at me all the time so she might know some of that observation haki, though she doesn’t seem terribly good at it. The last crewmate, called Rhythm, is the one we’ve seen least of, but one thing is clear, she made all of us present, including Arcadia look like we were moving in slow motion.” He thought some more to see if he missed something, and then added: “That’s pretty much all the intel I gathered, though Eve might know some about whatever gadgets were given to the guy she killed.” Speaking of Eve, she came back right then to ask Unacaryne about where he would put a secret passage if he built this place. Will was confident in the carpenter’s abilities, but this place was huge and he doubted he had gotten a good enough look into all of it in this commotion to make that kind of judgment call. He thought about it for a second and it seemed to him like Eve was on to something though. Part of his job as a hunter is to think like a criminal, even more than marines can. He couldn’t believe he didn’t see it before. None of them showed any sign of having encountered Arcadia after she fled on the nineteenth floor, so she must have other ways of getting around besides the stairs. Hell, this tower has dozens of floors, and only 19 are open to the public. She could be in any of the rest, and she’s far more clever than all of them combined when it comes to architecture. He thought about it some more and came up with a plan. It was a dumb plan to be sure, but the stupidest plans often are the most to the point. “You know Unca, I don’t lack any faith in your ability or anything, but I doubt we have enough information about the architecture of this place to determine which of the dozens of tricks she could employ is the one she chose. However, since none of us have seen her after she fled I think the odds are that she’s above us right now, and we know this place is sealed. If the complexity in the architecture of this place is the obstacle, then maybe we should just simplify it. I say we reduce this floor to a pile of rubble and then she’ll be exposed no matter what she does or what trick she chooses. After that, Our dear Uncarayne will definitely be able to tell where he should look for her tricks at least." he paused for a moment and then drew both his rapiers and added: "I mean, I always wanted to destroy some expensive things and not care about the consequences.” He was grinning like an overexcited teenager by the time he finished speaking. The woman was caught a little off guard by Uncarayne's shouting and usual spirited mannerisms, not in the sense that she didn't expect it from him but it was odd in her own mind for someone to be so excited to see her again. Hell, most people usually wanted to get away from the woman as soon as possible. "Er, yes. The machine has been dealt with." She spoke while clearing her throat. It wasn't her style of taking care of loose ends, but there was no time and considering the fact that his limbs were out of commission and there were several flights of stairs that needed to be crossed she doubted that they would have to deal with Jacob any time soon, so as far as they needed to know, he was dealt with. She had been trying to converse with William as he was the much more level headed of the two, but it seemed that the marine was hell bent on making that difficult as he kept on interrupting in order to chime in on his own. It could have been amusing any other time, especially with the annoyed look growing on William's face but the situation at the moment was quite crucial. He did mention quite a few interesting things though, such as the involvement of CP9 in this train wreck of a mission along with some of the inventions that the shichibukai had at her disposal, such as being able to effectively deal with Will's feathers. That was rather impressive but given the information that she had been given on the way up here it was to be expected. Glancing to the side she could see the marines, or rather, the Cipher Pol agents discussing among themselves. Likely trying to pick up the pieces of this job as well as talking about the two unexpected bounty hunters involved, after all, Uncarayne and the other one were assigned to do this. They were standing a bit too far away and she was focused on what Will was saying so she couldn't really hear what they were saying, but one of the agents caught her eye. He seemed to be pretty exhausted all things considered and his clothing was now practically just a set of burnt rags that were fighting to hold together, but oddly enough his body itself seemed to be in pristine condition as if he hadn't even been touched during the fighting. It stood out to her, but her mind wasn't really drawing any reasonable conclusions on what he could have done and the woman now began to focus on the tricks that Arcadia had to offer. She was the main target here after all, and despite all of her protection if they managed to get her then in Raine's eyes that was a mission- no, a hunt successful. "Devil fruit juice bombs?" She couldn't help but question while lifting an eyebrow as Uncarayne continued to interject with his retelling of the events that got them here. She believed he remembered the fight correctly, she just couldn't really understand what he was trying to describe. Fortunately the rapier wielding musketeer was able to pick up the slack. even his descriptions weren't quite as precise as she would have liked but at least now they would be going in with some form of information on the enemy. In fact they had the advantage in more ways than just having the enemy currently trapped. None of them should have known of the presence of Raine on this thing. Something that could be used to their advantage. That was her idea however, but as Will finished his run down of Aracadia's forces it seemed that it was unlikely she could catch them off guard with an observation haki user on their side. She could attempt to try and hide her bloodlust and desire to fight, but even the huntress knew that would be practically impossible. She was so poor at it that even a novice user of observation haki would probably be able to pick up on her emotions and find her. Running the numbers through her head though it seemed that they had a slight numbers advantage in the form of the two Cipher Pol agents as well. She didn't really count the marine that she had traveled with as so far he seemed to be dead weight in her mind. Hopefully he wouldn't get in the way. Still, homing bullets and such, this all sounded too amazing to be true, but Will had no reason to lie right now. "Thank you for the information. Both of you." She spoke while looking to Uncarayne as well. "We'll need to prioritize certain members of her defenses if we want any hopes of getting to Arcadia. The woman is crafty but they're definitely just as dangerous if not more so. In my experience it is best to quickly eliminate those priority targets. If we kill them as quickly as possible then other members on our side will be able to either focus down Arcadia or assist with keeping her other guards preoccupied while someone else goes in for the kill." Speaking of which, that reminded her of something. "Will, I may have more experience in assassinations I trust your experience in having actually fought her forces much more right now. I want you to decide on the priority members how they may best be dealt with." She had a few ideas in her mind such as Missy as she functioned as amazing long range support although that Rhythm individual was a loose end and the huntress was not a fan of such things. Mac sounded powerful but they would be able to suffice with simply keeping him occupied for the most part. Turning to the Cipher Pol agents though she called out to them. "With all of this that's going on, I assume it's safe to assume that Arcadia's bounty has been unfrozen, no? I don't care about the money, but I'll let you know this, I tend to take my prey in dead more often than alive, especially if they manage to piss me off enough." That said she sincerely hoped they didn't want to take the woman in alive. If so then they had better make sure that Raine wasn't the one to take her. As she spoke she saw the female marine come their way, saying something to Uncarayne about the architecture of the building. If she remembered correctly William said that the woman possessed the lightning logia. How lucky for their side. And here Raine was hoping she would be able to take point on this assault by being the fastest but it seemed she had some competition in that regard. |
