Tyrallia was tempted to object to Raine calling her a mutant in her request for help, but honestly speaking she didn't have the energy. It was more effort than she was making it look to stay upright, she ached all over. She followed the conversation as they discussed a possible remedy for the injuries Raine and herself had sustained in the fight.

She observed the girl Jeremiah had challenged for a cure, the shy nerd archetype. That was ultimately the best way of describing her. Stammer, short-ish hair, thick glasses, some kind of extensive knowledge that is revealed if you press hard enough. Tyrallia considered her interest piqued. Other scientists usually had that effect on her.

She addressed the whole room, but focused her gaze on the girl. "We're not looking for a permanent solution. All I took was a few blunt impacts, so we're probably just dealing with bruising. Worst case, a broken rib or two, but that's not something that can be cured by more than just waiting it out. Same for the strawberry lolly." She pointed one of her vines in Raine's direction.

Tyrallia's vines twitched impatiently. She didn't like sitting idle, but she knew better than most how important it was to recover before trying again. She looked back to the girl, who hadn't moved. "Well? Do it."

“I wouldn’t trust that cocky robot with explosives”

Raine continued to mutter to herself as she headed over to where the one known as Eleanor stood, her slightly awkward pose showing off she wasn’t used to social situations. She sounded knowledgeable though, although inexperienced. She supposed the one laid on the bed waiting for Professor Write to come and invite her to his house, was similar. Probably too young to have an expansive knowledge of doctoring, but seemed to have just about enough to patch people up. She’d most likely seen some things in her time.

“You sounded almost insincere when calling me captain, I hope that wasn’t intentional, yours arms are looking rather fragile right about now bastard”

She spoke through clenched teeth, she was angry from both her pain and from the cyborg being an insufferable man. Normally she had nothing against men, in fact she didn’t care either way, but this one in particular had an ability to make her angry on a whim. The only reason for her not lashing out right now was he was at least doing something constructive, and something in the air seemed kind of serious.

Looking back towards Mae, Raine could tell her input would be rather limited, as she continued to spin around whilst looking at all the colours of the chemicals and liquids lining the walls. She had such a happy look on her face, it made the redheaded woman smile, if only for a while before grimacing once again in pain. As she went back to mumbling about her issues, Tyrallia perked up, or as much as a highly injured young girl could.

“You got sent through a wall you silly sod. Lay there and shut up, and stop babbling on about food. We’ll feed you soon enough”

She spoke to the girl in a way fitting to her age, although not without withholding her curses. She was obviously impatient, wanting her pain to be away with as soon as possible. It was understandable and she could empathise, but being hungry at a time like this just seemed crazy. She was delusional though, that much was clear. Raine knew enough about pain personally to know it could do that sort of thing to you.

The girl was right though, they should probably hurry themselves up, otherwise she could attain further damage. She wouldn’t pretend to understand medicine or health, but she understood music, and the music inside of peoples souls. When you were injured, so was your soul, and sometimes neither could ever recover.

“Gawh! What happened to you Mellow?!”

She looked up, noticing that Mae had finally snapped out of her daze, and seemed to have finally noticed she was covered in both her blood and Tyrallia’s. It wasn’t a huge amount, but it was there and it was worryingly visible. She supposed she’d expected her to notice eventually, although wished she’d gotten patched up first. Her voice suddenly turning from an angry and serious one to a kind and loving tone, she spoke to her partner:

“Don’t chu worry about that, for now just come over here and help this kind lady make something which will patch Tyrallia up won’t you?”

Tyrallia basked in the irony of Mae's pet name for Raine as the ladies fluttered around her like a flock of harpies trying to heal someone. Eleanor was the only one who had any idea what the hell she was doing, but she couldn't communicate that to the other two for the life of her. As a result, the treatment was... imperfect, but it didn't take too long for them to apply some basic bandaging.

The pain was already fading to a dull ache - honestly, with the way this place's walls were constructed she'd done more damage to it than herself on impact - and so she shuffled off the bed into a standing position without giving thanks. She pulled her dress back over her head, and turned to face the ladies with her hands (well... hand and vines) on her hips, which might have looked authoritarian if she wasn't at least a foot shorter than anyone else there.

"Right, so here's the plan." She began, talking like the divine leader she was destined to be, "Those guys introduced themselves as pirates, so we find their ship, take that piece of shite with us..." she pointed to the device that the elder scientist would periodically throw a concerned look at. She recognised it - she'd had her Dad buy her a smaller version for a controlled experiment at one point.

It was a bomb, but not in your traditional 'kaboom' kind of way. The company behind its creation and sale called it the Diffusion Accelerator. It was designed to contain a liquid, which would then be heated into a gas, and its diffusion through the air would be accelerated. To be blunt, a 'gas bomb'. Excellent for use as a chemical weapon, if you could make the right toxin. Of course, there were other uses. Officially, it was marketed for use by farmers in spreading pesticides and the like to their crops.

"Old man, what've you got in the way of poisons?"

Helping heal the tentacle girl wasn’t too difficult. Admittedly Raine had no clue what she was really doing, and neither did Mae by the looks of it as she kept trying to stick brightly coloured plasters over Tyrallia’s body, even after the girl with glasses told her to stop. It appeared she was in her own world, and so multiple times the redhead had to pull her partner away gently, just to stop her being in the way. She couldn’t be mad at her though. Most people couldn’t most likely, simply because of her child-like demeanour; anyone that did dislike her though… They weren’t going to have a good time.

“We done yet?”

Raine, although having done little in the way of helping apart from preventing distractions such as Mae, still managed to find herself becoming a little bit impatient. This was her usual way, although thankfully for Eleanor, the old man, and somewhat Jeremiah, she wasn’t getting angry because of it. Her foot tapped against the floor as the girl with glasses added the finishing touches to the bandaging. She seemed pleased with her work, although simply gave a nod to the girl on the work table thing, too shy to say anything. A wry smile grew on the redheads face as she complimented the doctor girl:

“Nice job”

That was all she could be bothered with, already exhausted from her day. She needed a rest, and a drink, and maybe some lone time with her Butterfly. As it turned out, Tyrallia had other ideas as she instantly began moving and plotting revenge, which really wasn’t ideal in her current state. Raine almost instantly headed over towards the girl and stood over her as she made her revenge plans, which although were smart, they were also dumb; if that made sense.

“Will you STOP it already. You yourself said you’re a doctor, yet here you are fucking around with a plan to go throw something at them sods or whatever. You trying to die or something? I thought you were headed somewhere, apart from hell, and that's why you joined us”

It was a mixture of the girl being injured, being young, and also being part of the crew which stopped the angry woman from knocking her out. Her fists were clenched and her teeth were gritting, and she was finding it hard to control her anger. She’d just carried the stupid mutant from a battlefield, and now she was already trying to do her own thing. As she looked around for something expensive to break, she felt comforting arms wrap around her torso and a whisper in her ear.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but you’re not in much of a better condition than her…”

Mae had a point. As Raine looked down, she could clearly see a substantial amount of blood staining her nice clothes, and multiple open wounds, mostly across her hands. Although she was annoyed, she couldn’t help but let out a slight sigh, allowing most of her “pissed off-ness” to leave with it. Of course she still wanted to hit something, although Jeremiah was being too quiet right now for her to come up with an excuse to smack him. Instead, she sat herself down in a previously clean chair, and allowed it to become dirtied with her blood as she permitted her wife to try her best to help patch her up.

After a good few minutes, a good portion of her pale body was now covered in rather contrasting bright, rainbow coloured plasters of varying size and shape. There were also a few of Eleanor’s bandages left over which were now wrapped around her. None of it felt at all comfortable, but she didn’t want to complain, especially after all the effort that had been put into her welfare. She leant in and kissed the rainbow haired woman, holding their lips together for a few moments before she released them and chuckled slightly. She’d calmed down enough, for now. Sighing, she decided to start from scratch:

“What’s this plan of yours anyway? You wanna poison them with some bad food or something?”

She didn’t know about how well Tyrallia could cook, although the weird food looking object on the other side of the room was something she’d pointed out. Having not listened to half the conversations going on, she didn’t know what it was to be precise, but that didn’t matter. The tentacle girl had a plan, and despite not wanted her to go and die right away, if only for her own sake, she’d hear it out. Perhaps they could send Jeremiah in to do it instead; at least then if it went wrong nobody would mind too much. She smirked to herself, wondering if she was too harsh on the mildly psychopathic monster who enjoyed murdering people. Wait… No, she was justified.

"No, even better." Tyrallia responded, a sly grin crossing what of her face was made available by the plant. She approached the table and picked up the device from it, holding it up to show. The doctor and the girl looked more than a little panicky. They reacted like she'd picked up an armed bomb. Morons.

"This is a diffusion accelerator. It evaporates liquids and then accelerates the diffusion of those particles through the air." The girl looked confused. "W-wait, it's not a bomb?" Tyrallia rolled her eyes. "Does this look like a bomb?" "U-uh... k-kinda?" "NO! It doesn't! Have you ever seen a bomb? There is no bomb in existence this intricately designed, because bombs can only be used once so it's a waste of time to make them look fancy." The girl looked intimidated. Tyrallia felt the rush she could only get from intimidating people both older and taller than her.

She cleared her throat, hiding her smirk of satisfaction, and continued. "As I was saying, we can use this. Old man, I need that poison list. Not necessarily deadly stuff, but stuff that would make human consumption..." now her smirk started showing, "interesting." He looked ready to throw her request back in her face. Tyrallia raised her vines. He visibly swallowed. "Darn kids..." He turned and walked to a nearby shelf, stacked with small bottles. "I don't make a habit of keeping toxic chemicals in my lab." He reached for a shelf near the middle, and carried one of the bottles to Tyrallia. She took it, placing the D.A. on the table beside her, and read the label.

She lightly bit her tongue. "Good choice, doctor," she said impatiently, "if I were looking to make invisible ink. But I'm not." She tossed the bottle aside, and it smashed against the floor. "Give me something I can use. Something fun, like DMT." The man's eyes brightened. "A hallucinogen will do?" There was Tyrallia's smile again. This was getting fun. "A hallucinogen would be perfect."

He rushed towards a different part of the room this time, and Tyrallia couldn't help but feel excited by his suddenly obvious enthusiasm. He was rummaging around on his desk and came back with an unmarked beaker. Tyrallia took it from him and examined it. It was transparent, odourless, and could have been easily mistaken for water. "What is it?" "I don't know. But it works." Tyrallia raised her eyebrow and waited for an explanation.

"Eleanor was carrying some chemicals for me the other day, and she tripped and they fell on the fire." "A-and then everyone else in the room started tripping too!" That was Eleanor. She looked so damn proud of herself. Death stares ensued. "S-sorry..."

"Well, she is right. We saw... things. Weird things. It was hard to tell reality from... non-reality." "Sounds perfect. I think I'll take it." She sneakily pulled a small metal cube from the table she was standing next to, and made it look like she pulled it from her pocket. "But just in case..." she slipped it into the old man's lab coat pocket. "Now that is a bomb. Touch it and it goes off. When I get back and this stuff has worked as you say, I'll take that off your hands. Good?"

The man looked terrified, but nodded frantically. "G-g-g-g-good." Tyrallia picked the D.A. up and turned on heel, carrying both it and the flask of chemicals towards the exit. "Come on you two. Let's go have some fun."

As Raine used the brightly coloured cloth she’d been handed to clean off any leftover blood from her skin, she tipped back slightly in her chair, pushing it backwards with her right foot. Every now and then she felt the back of her chair touch something more solid than air, which in fact was Mae, making sure she wasn’t about to fall over by tipping back too far. She had a strong bond of trust with her partner, and so naturally she continued to tip backwards, as further increasingly precarious speeds, almost enjoying her little distraction as she cleaned herself up and tipped into her precious airhead’s hands.

“Aside from the fact that now half our travel group is insane, you really think you should be playing a juggling game with that?”

Although she’d been sort of enjoying herself, despite the situation, the redhaired woman hadn’t let her eyes stray from Tyrallia the whole time. There was something about the young girl which creeped her out and put her on edge, and surprisingly it wasn’t that weird arm of hers, if you could even call it that. As she passed the rainbow cloth back to Mae, which was now predominantly red as opposed to all the other colours it should have been, she began to reconsider allowing the mad scientist to come along with them. Before she could come to a conclusion though, she began to explain what the object actually did.

“So... Not food? Alright then”

Crossing her arms, she began to try and interpret the data which had just been conveyed to her. It was a little hard to understand as she hadn’t paid much attention back in school, and so some of the words took her a moment to work out, but from what had been said, it basically melted stuff and sent it into the surrounding air. Stupid scientists and their stupid technical words. Rubbing her head to try and understand how such a device would ever work, Raine decided she needed a little calming, and so reached into her bag’s side-pocket, pulling out a pack of cigarettes and removing one, before replacing it, and letting the deathstick sit lightly in-between her lips for a while.

A little while later, Mae pulled up her own chair besides Raine, and the couple simply sat there in silence for a little bit. Eventually the redhead stood up, only momentarily however, as to turn her chair the wrong way round and then sit on it in the same fashion, so that each leg was either side of the chair and her arms were resting on the backrest. She took a deep sigh, and then reached out towards her partner’s hand, gently squeezing it and then looking into her eyes, smiling all the time.

“Looks like it’s not over yet, but I promise, soon we’ll have some relaxation time to ourselves where we can just enjoy ourselves. Sound good?”

Mae smiled and nodded in reply, looking suddenly very giddy. It appeared the thought of that was a pleasant one to her, and that made Raine smile even more. All the while, the two had been ignoring most of what had been going on in the room. Jeremiah was stood there with his finger up his nose or whatever, most likely trying to find any signs of a brain, which the usually irate woman found rather entertaining to think about. Her numbed mind blocked out most things, but she could clearly make out the distinct sign of a threat, as Tyrallia began to walk off.

“Ugh… Why can we never just have a few minutes to ourselves?”

Raine lazily raised herself from the seat, kicking it to the side almost instinctively in the general direction of the desk. Needless to say, it made contact with it, although in the more violent sense which caused it to topple over backwards. Shrugging slightly, with her hand still happily attached to Mae’s, she helped the aforementioned woman stand, lightly tucking her chair under another desk and leading her along. She briefly glanced backwards towards Jeremiah, frowning slightly before simply saying:

“If you’re not here when we’re back, I’m not looking for you”

With that, she walked out of the room, only briefly pausing to collect their stuff, with Mae following happily behind her, who too gave a brief farewell:

“Bye bye. See you all later”

Though the plan on paper was fundamentally simple - put a gas bomb on a pirate ship and kick some ass as everyone on board started tripping - actually executing the plan would be easier said than done. There were multiple variables to consider - firstly, and probably most importantly, the range of the D.A. Tyrallia had used one before, but it was a much smaller model, maybe the size of a baseball. This was more the size of a basketball. Well, range wasn't so much the worry, as the capacity was. The more you could fit in, the more concentrated and thus effective the toxins would be over a larger area.

Tyrallia led Raine and Mae wordlessly as such scientific ponderings ran through her mind. Before they could finalize the details of the plan, they would first need to know the size of their target. Ideally, the centre of the ship would be the best idea, but in the case that the centre wouldn't give Mary the appropriate dosage, they needed to find her room, or at least her location, and plan accordingly.

It didn't take the trio long to reach the dock area again, and Tyrallia immediately set to work scanning the flags mounted on each ship. A glance revealed seven ships, four of a size that would be able to handle an organization of the Mask Pirates' size. Black was the colour she was looking for, preferably adorned with a mask of some kind. Every ship in the dock turned up negative, but of course they would. Who would walk around essentially carrying a sign that says please, arrest me? So they'd need to be cleverer than that.

"Okay, girls, here's the plan. We need to find which of these ships belongs to those shithead pirates, and we've also gotta see if Mary's on board. So we're gonna have to split up and search. If you find them, don't engage." She looked back over her shoulder and grinned. "We don't want them knowing what we have in store, now, do we?"

Raine trudged along, her sandals hitting the ground with brief plaps each step, as she struggled to keep herself going. She’d been hit pretty hard, and had scrapes over her whole body from brief scuffles with all and sundry. The worst wounds were her stomach and fists though, the former being badly bruised and making walking a tad difficult, and the latter aching and making it hard to move her fingers. Once they were done here she’d need a nice long rest, not like she would actually get one.

As the redhead walked along the streets, following Tyrallia, Mae danced around happily. Her arms were swaying around almost majestically, and she was humming a familiar song. Every now and then she was slide her hand up her harp, causing a satisfying sound to float across the streets. Every now and then she returned to Raine’s side, to briefly hold her hand or to brush up against her closely to remind her she was there. It wasn’t exactly something she could ever forget, but she appreciated it nonetheless.

Eventually the trio arrived at the docks, having not said very much at all since leaving the hotel. It was rather weird that the scientist had happened to be working in the same place as Mary had been hauled up at, and even weirder still that they’d managed to come across where he was, but she paid that no mind. She put it down to a disjointed story luck more than anything else. Getting back on track, the docks themselves were just as small as she’d remembered, although there were a few rather large ships around. The smallest there just happened to be a familiar one, the one they’d arrived on, so they could rule that out of the search.

“Well if we’re only looking, I’m sure it’ll be safe to check them out on our own. Just shout if you get caught. Like… Really loudly. I’ll throw something at whichever ship your voice is coming from.”

Before the mini doctor could reply, Raine headed off. Theoretically it would have been a good idea to either split into threes, or keep Mae with Tyrallia due to the safety behind it, but Mae seemed to want to stick around. No complaints. The first ship they decided to search first was one of the bigger ones, which was only smart as from the sounds of it, they were facing a large organisation. A thin board held the key to getting up onto the main deck.

“Mind your step”

The surprisingly calm redhead led the way, walking quickly but carefully up the plank and just about making it there safely. Once there she turned around briefly to offer a hand to her partner, who gladly accepted once in range, just to steady herself. She held her with a firm but comforting grip, not that she’d be able to manage anything more due to injuries, and the fact she could never hurt Mae.

“There we go. Alright, let’s go check this place out, but remember we’ve gotta be quiet”

Technically right now they were breaking the law by trespassing, however neither of them were really bothered by that. It wasn’t like they were assaulting people, and neither had spotted any marines about, so that suggested they were reasonably safe. Speaking of which, just to make sure they could defend themselves if needs be, Raine slung her guitar case off her back, opening it up and removing the instrument of harm, before putting the case back on her back carefully. It wasn’t exactly very heavy to her, so she could wield it rather well in one hand, meaning the other was free to hold a certain someone’s instead.

The two walked carefully along the abandoned deck, both wondering why nobody was about. For a ship the size of a whale, it seemed to be rather… Quiet. Raine tutted, almost annoyed at whoever the inhabitants were for not making themselves known and obvious enough and making it easier. Heading to the door leading wherever, she quietly opened it, silently thanking the workers on the ship for making sure it didn’t squeak.

The door led to a small stairwell, which the two almost immediately began walking down, both gripping each-others hand a little tighter. Neither had ever been very good at keeping quiet or being subtle, so it was a little bit scary in all honesty. Surprisingly, they both still did feel fear, even if one of them tended to forget it a little bit. Despite their fears though, they continued downwards, turning at the turn in the stairs and continuing down until they reached an open room.

The room was rather poorly lit, with only a few candles and lamps dotted about the room giving any light. There were multiple doors attached to the room, but this appeared to be the main area, with weapons leant against the walls, varying from swords to maces, and even a rifle or two. In the centre of the room was a large table, with chairs and people dotted around it. Around ten, rather unfit looking men stood about, with two sat down at opposite ends of the table, each with cards in hand and familiar masks laid down in front of them. They were all too engrossed in their game to notice either woman, one stood by the staircase with a harp in hand, or the other sprinting towards them and raising a guitar like it was some sort of battleaxe.

"OI YOU BASTARDS!"

Needless to say, the first guy to get hit went out before anybody could even react. Raine brought the metal guitar down like a sledgehammer onto the head of the nearest man, causing a loud clunking noise and a rather comical sound of the guitar strings being plucked from the force. Almost instantly after this takedown the room quietened a little momentarily, as the remaining eleven men turned in awe. Most weren’t wearing masks as they had been in privacy, but one or two were still. After the shock began to wear off, the men began to rush about. Most began to move forwards as if to attack the intruder, but one or two ran off to the sides to grab a weapon.

The redhead stayed still for a moment, savouring the rage almost and letting it build. These guys were a real pan in the neck, and they’d caused trouble for them all, and didn’t even have the decency to introduce themselves or set up a greeting. Needless to say, Raine was rather angry, as she tensed her muscles and ignored the pain as much as she could, allowing the remaining amount that got through to her to simply add to her anger. The men continued to advance for the most part, with one or two hanging back, and the others grabbing their stuff. One man in particular hefted a rifle, which seemed a little too heavy for him. Despite this he attempted to take aim, however quickly found a bright purple arrow sticking out of his arm, causing him to drop it and stumble sideways in pain. As the gun dropped to the floor, the room erupted with a loud bang of the firearm accidentally firing, causing everyone to simultaneously jump, excluding the guitar wielder as the bullet missed everyone.

The guitarist dashed forwards, swinging her guitar with some force and causing it to smack into the nearest man who stumbled backwards in pain, but didn’t fall to the floor. She allowed her momentum to continue though, and continued to spin, clubbing the next nearest man full force and knocking him down instead with a pained groan.

Tyrallia wasn't even a minute into her search of the second ship in the dock when she heard commotion coming from the first. Her head snapped around to look at it from where she stood on the deck. First, a shout that was unmistakably Raine's, even if words could not be made out at this distance. Then, a loud thud, the sound of a guitar breaking, then more shouts, from males this time. Then the sound of a firearm. Tyrallia fumed. Morons! I said DO NOT ENGAGE!

She briskly moved down the gangplank and back onto the dock, as she fumbled with the chemicals, trying to pour them into the chamber on the D.A. She emptied the container and tossed it aside as she closed the hatch, the glass smashing against the ground. With that done, she cradled the device underarm and picked up her pace as she headed for the ship.

By the time she'd worked her way up on deck, all hell had broken loose down below, at least from the sound. As against her initial plan as it was, she appreciated the fact that Raine's disobedience had created a more than adequate distraction for her to use to find Mary's room and plant the device.

"Hello, Doll," came a voice from above her, an all too familiar one. Tyrallia leapt to the side as Mary, once again clad in her maid's uniform, dropped from the sky, her sword stabbing downwards through where Tyrallia's hair trailed and head had previously been. The blade embedded itself in the deck, but Mary effortlessly removed it and stood casually with her hand on her hip as the two girls stared each other down.

"Pretty fast, for a pipsqueak. C'mon, make this easy on both of us and just let me cut you." Tyrallia swallowed, considering her options. In a straight fight, there was no way on earth she was beating this woman, especially with her injuries. She's have to play her trump card then.

She swallowed, and pushed the activation button on the device. It would take about a minute for the device to heat the liquid and give it enough energy to diffuse on the required scale. She'd just have to hold on until then. She carefully put it down and rolled it aside, taking up a fighting stance with her vines pointing towards Mary. "There are some plants too tough to cut." Mary smirked. "Then let's see if you're the great oak you think you are..." She made an arcing motion with her sword, ending with it held horizontally at her shoulder. Then, suddenly, without warning, she leapt forwards. "...or just a weed!"

The next few moments were rather a blur to Raine. Well… All of it sort of was a blur anyway, as whenever she got annoyed, another part of her took over, and she sometimes struggled to remember the details of things, but this time was a little different. Her rampage continued, with her next target being a surprised looking man without a mask, who she quickly dispatched by slamming her guitar into his chest with a loud cracking sound, and then followed the attack up with a solid head-butt, her forehead slamming into his nose with another cracking noise. Unfortunately though, this wasn’t the smartest move as the force on her own head caused her to dizzy momentarily, which led to her dropping her guitar.

“Mellow!”

A familiar shout could be heard, which caused the angry woman to try and focus again, however before she could she felt a roaring pain on the back of her head, causing her to stumble forwards, over her previous two victims. The redhead roared in pain as she attempted to recover from being struck on the back of the head by a metal bar, however such an injury wouldn’t fix instantly, and despite probably now having a concussion, she fully knew this.

“YOU’VE ALL GONE ‘N DONE IT NOW!”

The angry woman, although practically blinded by her injury, still fought on valiantly, diving forwards and acting on instinct. Her fist swung randomly, coming into contact with the jaw of another man, who had previously been prepared to attack her, but now was staggering backwards from the attack. However as he fell backwards, another two came to take his place, each lunging for a separate arm of Raine’s in order to try and prevent her from beating on any more of their allies. It was an understandable tactic, but they’d overlooked two vital things. The first was that Mae had her bow trained on them, and secondly that the angry woman didn’t take kindly to being touched up.

A purple arrow suddenly embedded in the stomach of the man holding the redheads right arm, causing him to keel over in pain, instantly releasing the woman. Mellow of course wasted no time in slamming her fist forwards into his face and knocking him backwards, and then forced her fist to continue to swing round and smack the man on her left arm in the back. He was a rather skinny one, and so when her fist came in contact with his spine, she grunted in pain; he grunted more though, although it was more of a cry of pain. The pain the woman was suffering just added to her anger though, as her vision returned, albeit a little bit on the red side.

There were only five men left, three stood nearby around the table, and the other two were trying to gather weapons from the sides of the room, both fumbling a little and unable to keep a hold of them long enough. All of them were pathetic, and were a useless excuse for a fighting force. This naturally implied to the woman that the goons were just meat shields for the bigshots, which she hated the idea of. Speaking of which… Raine lunged forwards, her hand grabbing hold of the nearest man’s shirt as she pulled him nearer, slamming her free fist into his face as he travelled quickly towards her, adding a little force to the attack. She then held him up by the back of his shirt, which thankfully was rather easy with how light he was, and began moving quickly towards his allies, whilst he hung there limply, near unconsciousness.

The nearest man, who so happened to have the iron bar in hand, didn’t know how to react. On one hand, if he attacked then he’d only hurt his friend and that wouldn’t help anyone, but on the other hand if he didn’t then he’d be taken out and badly injured. In times of crisis, all the poor masked bandit could do was drop his weapon and raise his hands in front of his face, not that it did him that good. The only thing that the angry woman could think of when she was raised hands, was something to test her strength against, and so she slammed his fist as hard as she could into his palm, most likely splintering a bone or something as he yelped in pain, having tried to keep up the resistance. Naturally, he went down pretty quickly. As she turned towards the last man around the table, she watched a green object zip past her, embedding itself in the man’s cheek and causing him to yell in pain, before toppling to the ground.

The last two remaining men seemed to have lost most their morale, with one cowering in the corner and the other struggling to lift the large metal mace which he’d decided to use in this battle. Seeing him as a threat still, Raine dashed across the room, wasting no time in planting her fist in his face and pushing him against the wall, still with the mostly unconscious guy hanging from her spare arm. He was really dragging her down though, so as she punched the mace wielding guy in the head to knock him out, she threw the limp body at the man in the corner, knocking him over and causing mild injuries at most. Even though these guys hadn’t been a challenge or a real threat, it hadn’t stopped the angry woman from tearing through them, and still felt infuriated even after all of them dropped. Perhaps it was their complaints and moans that was making her angry still, which made her tempted to just knock them all out. As she contemplated destroying their skulls, she noticed movement on the other side of the room, and before she could even shout, one of the men she’d hit earlier pulled a chain on the wall. A moment later he fell down with a red arrow sticking in his chest.

It hadn’t been obvious before as it was right next to the stairwell, behind a post, but there most certainly was an iron gate type thing built into the ship. The chain which had been pulled seemed to be linked to it, as it was now slowly lowering. Although at first Raine decided to ignore it, and began kicking at a nearby complaining body rather violently, soon she turned back to it. Her fists were clenched and she thirsted for something else to punch, and thankfully it seemed she was going to be granted this gift. At around the halfway point of the gate lowering, a rather large and meaty hand emerged from the shadows, being placed on the top of the gate and pushing it down faster. And then the creature fully emerged from the shadows.

Tyrallia threw herself to the ground, Mary's blade sailing over her face, millimetres away from slicing her nose off. Tyrallia wasted no time and wrapped all five vines around Mary's right leg and pulling it out from underneath her. Mary, who'd moved right past Tyrallia in her attack, slammed forwards and smashed her face onto the deck. Tyrallia leaped to her feet and went to curbstomp Mary's head, but just before her food made impact, Mary disappeared, reappearing behind Tyrallia and taking a swipe at her head.

Tyrallia had instinctively dropped a when Mary had disappeared, so the blade sailed obove her head. On instinct, she redirected her downwards momentum and threw herself backwards, tackling Mary to the ground, knocking the wind out of both of them briefly. There was a clattering sound - Mary had lost her grip on her sword. That didn't stop her offensive, though, as Tyrallia felt the woman's arms wrap around under her chin, pulling her into a chokehold. Desperately, Tyrallia responded by tying two of her vines around Mary's neck. A good old fashioned stand off.

Mary's grip tightened, and Tyrallia started to struggle, wrapping another two vines around Mary's neck and squeezing while also flailing as best she could with her legs and using her hand to try and pry Mary's arms away. They weren't budging. She was strong. Too strong. But she surely couldn't hold out much longer under the pressure Tyrallia was applying to her throat.

No good, Tyrallia was starting to lose it. In a last ditch attempt to break free, she manoeuvred her final vine, finding Mary's mouth, which was open and trying to gasp for breath that wasn't there, and shoved it down her throat. Mary abruptly disappeared, and the sudden loss of the person beneath her left Tyrallia falling a few inches to the deck as she began coughing relentlessly and trying desperately to fill her lungs with air again.

She wasn't the only one. She could hear Mary coughing as well, somewhere. Tyrallia couldn't see her, not that she was really looking as she rolled over onto her front, holding herself up with her arms. Her breathing was taking too long to get back to normal. Mary would attack again soon, and she'd probably have retrieved her weapon. That was a thought. Tyrallia looked for it. There, a few feet away. She shakily got to her feet, and as fast as she could she headed to it and grabbed it.

It was heavy. No way she could wield this thing effectively. It was twice her height. She had to get rid of it then. She started to drag it to the edge of the ship. Then, without warning, a rush of wind behind her signalling Mary's arrival by teleportation, and before Tyrallia could even clock on, there was an intense pain in her shoulder and she fell to her knees, in shock. She looked to the source, and saw a neat, round hole pierced through her left shoulder, oozing blood. She looked over her shoulder to see Mary standing over her, looking pissed but smug, blood coating her left forefinger. Had she poked a hole in Tyrallia's arm?!

The woman put the bloody finger in her mouth, sucking it clean. She then removed it and placed the hand on Tyrallia's injured shoulder, causing excruciating pain that Tyrallia was too in shock about to retaliate to. Mary turned her around and pushed her so she was lying on her back looking up at her assailant. Mary picked up her sword, keeping a foot on Tyrallia's midsection to keep her pinned. "You know, I don't normally like killing kids. Too easy, not enough resistance. You though, you squirmed. And I love it when they squirm." Tyrallia tried not to panic. How much time had passed? Surely the diffusion accelerator would go off soon?

"Almost a pity it's gonna end." She slowly moved down with the sword and placed it to the left of Tyrallia's head, and sliced. "Short hair looks better on kids, don't you think?" Tyrallia winced. She was being toyed with. She tried to get rid of Mary by tripping her with her vines again, but mary grabbed them in her left hand, tutting. "Naughty, naughty. Can't have that, can we?" She moved the sword into position next to the vines. Tyrallia's eyes widened in absolute terror, and she started wriggling, trying to hold Mary's sword hand in place, anything to stop what would come next.

She couldn't.

She heard a sickening slicing sound.

She screamed.

Sap poured from the stumps of her surrogate arms and tears welled up as she screamed and screamed, her good arm going to her injuries. Mary was laughing, and removed her foot, allowing Tyrallia to curl up into a ball. "I finally got you to sing!" she yelled victoriously, holding her green-coated sword aloft. Tyrallia was shaking. She was out of her league. In way over her head.

Then there were some mechanical clanks, and a dull thump of an explosion as a thin layer of mist filled the air around the ship. Mary's laughter died, but that wasn't what Tyrallia was focusing on. Through the pain, she could sense... something. Someone familiar. She worked her eyes open, and there, standing in front of her, were her parents.

“There are so many things wrong with this…”

Raine muttered to herself, managing to suppress her rage just a tiny bit in order to look at the situation. He looked big, tough, and dangerous. Most people would have turned away, and pretended they saw nothing, but as it turned out, she was incredibly angry right now, and a giant punching bag was actually rather enticing. Roaring in anger, she sprinted forwards, punching the giant in the chest with all her might. Another roar followed as she realised just how tough this man’s skin was, which although hurt her like hell, didn’t stop her. However after another few punches her energy was already beginning to ebb. She’d burnt through most of her energy fighting the pathetic goons which now littered the floor, and as her last attack practically bounced off of his chest, Tar struck out.

The world spun for the redhead for a moment, and she felt sort of weightless for some reason. Unfortunately she snapped back into the real world rather quickly, as her body crashed into the table, causing it to tip over and slam into the ground. She groaned to herself, and could vaguely make out her name being shouted, although she couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. It was very familiar though... Someone she knew well was shouting to her, to get up and to get away from something or other… Even though she was half unconscious, she could still understand this…

“Mellow! Run!”

The world was still a blur when Raine finally decided to try and sit up. Everything seemed kind of dark, and she had a massive pain in her chest which was restricting her breathing and movement. What had happened? She tried to clear her mind, but all she could manage was to slowly shuffle backwards, away from a blur which was slowly approaching her. She’d been beaten up plenty of times, but right now she just couldn’t understand what had happened to her. One moment she was on her feet, and the next she was almost unconscious, almost in a different world.

It was only when the blur began to move in a different direction that she began to understand what was happening. She clenched her fists and began pulling herself forwards, dropping onto her front before steadily raising to her feet, picking up the pace more and more as each moment passed, until finally she was scrambling forwards, just making it onto her feet. She could still hardly see, but she could make out a blur of bright colours, slowly being hidden behind a large tanned blob. Launching herself forwards once she got close enough, the angered woman jumped at the mutant of a man, wrapping one arm around his neck before grabbing at a random protrusion of metal in his back to help herself up, and move her body clear of it to avoid being impaled.

“Tar mad!”

So that was his name then? Well regardless, Raine was currently slamming her free hand into his skull with little success, using her palm, fist and even raising her whole arm up to slam her elbow into him, with still little success. His head was pretty tough, and on further inspection she began to notice that a lot of his skull much like the rest of his body, was plated with thin layers of metal. There were small dents being made though, so she suspected it wasn’t a very tough metal at all. Well, she didn’t actually think that, seeing as all she could think about was hitting this guy really hard, and screaming in anger.

“LEAVE HER ALONE! AND DIE WHILST YOU’RE AT IT! AHHH”

Tar was still trying to swat the enraged redhead away with literally no success, as his meaty arms didn’t seem to allow him to reach up to behind his head, and the thicker layers of metal across his chin meant that he couldn’t get his huge hands under there to stop the woman from slowly strangulating him. Meanwhile, his chest was slowly filling with seemingly insignificant arrows, which if they didn’t bounce off, lightly embedded in his chest like darts on a massive dartboard. Needless to say, he hardly noticed it at all. Still focused on his current opponent, he pushed backwards, trying to ram her into the wall of the ship.

Over and over again, he battered the poor, raging Raine against the wall, slowly making larger and larger dents in the wood, sending splinters flying everywhere as his attacks slowed down little bit little. He was losing consciousness, and soon it would all be over. In a last ditch attempt, Tar launched his whole weight at the wall, crushing the woman with most his body weight. Despite this, somehow she still held on, despite being crushed, and feeling circulation begin to stop in some limbs.

“DIE ALREADY”

She was just getting angrier and angrier though, for although she didn’t have much energy left, she could still muster enough strength and courage to defend the one she loved. Similar to Tar though, she was getting weaker and weaker, and was basically just running off of anger and protective instincts right now (not maternal, shush). With the giant’s last attack failing, and only managing to create an even larger hole in the wall of the ship, the furious woman decided to end the fight, tightening her grip and using her free arm to tighten it even further.

A little while later, Raine lay on her back, breathing heavily on the floor. Her body felt like it was on fire, and pretty much every part of her ached. The only comfort to be found was a warm and comforting arm, wrapped around her torso, with a familiar rainbow haired girl curled up against her sides. It stung a little, but she didn’t complain.

“You’re going to get blood on yourself you know…”

Even her eyes were burning from lack of oxygen to her head, but she could still see clear enough to know things were ok. Tar had passed out eventually, and Mae had managed to help carry Raine away from him in case he woke up. Looking briefly over towards him, she laughed to herself, happy that the duo had managed to defeat him, and turn him into a giant rainbow pincussion. She was glad that was over though, another moment longer and she could have outright lost, which she didn’t like the sound of. Her eyes began to shut slowly, as she realised how tired she was. It was safe to nap here at the moment, wasn’t it? A high pitched scream from above told her otherwise.

“Shit!”

Pushing herself up off the ground, the redhead desperately looked around. She’d completely forgotten about her doctor, and now she’d gone and gotten herself into trouble again. Her body was in agony, but she needed to get upstairs to see what the hell was going on. Hobbling towards the stairs, she desperately scanned the area above to see what was going on. Once near enough, she could begin to make out a weird sort of cloud, slowly creeping towards them.

Tyrallia blinked. Did a double take. They weren't there, she knew they weren't there. It was just the shit in the DA messing with her brain, making her hallucinate. She knew that. But they were there, right in front of her, and they were so real... They looked older. Tired. It had been no more than seven months since she'd seen them last, but they looked like years. She shook herself again. They weren't there, they were just an illusion, her imagination.

She couldn't lose focus, Mary was still here somewhere, hiding in the fog. It obscured everything, and all Tyrallia could see was the deck at her feet, the blood dripping from her arm, and the pure white surrounding her. The pain was clouding her perception. She couldn't focus on anything in particular. When her mother spoke, it inevitably pulled her focus.

"This is on you!" she sounded upset, more than upset, and was thrusting a finger at her husband's chest. "How could you give her something like that?" Tyrallia's Dad spoke. "I thought-" "You thought that it was a good idea to give a nine year old an unknown plant from one of the most dangerous jungles in the world! And look what happened! She's gone! Who could have expected that?!" The woman was hysterical. "What's done is done. As much as I want to, I can't take back that plant. But we can find her. She can't have gone far, can she? She's only young."

"You said yourself though, she's not just a girl." Tyrallia's mother pointed out, her voice full of anguish. "She just turned a plant into an arm. If she wants to go, she will." She covered her face with her hands and started sobbing, "Oh, God, Jean..." Dad placed a hand on each of her shoulders. "Let's not assume the worst. We'll find her. She's out there, I know it."

Jean looked on quietly, gripping her injury, the green blood coating her palm. Guilt began to creep up on her from behind. She watched as the two walked away from her, into the mist, calling her name. She almost corrected herself: No, not her name. She was Tyrallia. Goddess who had yet to fully awaken. Maybe it was the gas, maybe it was the ideas that had been forced from the back of her mind to the front, but suddenly the whole idea seemed... silly. Unrealistic.

Stupid.

She gripped her wounds. She bled. She was no goddess. She was a scientist. How the hell had she ever allowed herself to think otherwise? What had changed her scientific outlook? Her gaze slowly drifted to the plant that she'd attached to her arm, what seemed like forever ago. It was a living organism. Could it exercise will? For the first time in months, that mad, scientific curiosity pulled at her mind. It was as if a spell was being lifted as the chemicals in the air drew her true mind to the front.

She could still hear her parents, no longer in sight but so loud they could have been speaking directly into her ear. Calling her name. Jean Raven. She took a breath. She seemed to stand straighter despite the pain.

Then, out of the shadows came a kick, that landed in Tyrallia's already injured ribs, sending her sprawling onto her back. "Found you!" gasped an exasperated Mary. The mist began to clear, revealing the demonic fire burning in the deranged woman's eyes. "I've had it about up to here with you and your fucking tricks." She raised her sword overhead. "Tell Satan to call me, Little Miss Goddess."

She wasted no further time and swung her sword down at her victim, who darted slightly to the left, still lying down, and began screaming anew as the blade cleaved through her flesh, the plant flesh that connected what remained of her vines to her shoulder.

The smoke continued to creep down the staircase, slowly but surely making its way towards the bewildered couple. Raine was the first to act, merely raising her shirt from her chest in order to cover her mouth, and looking to Mae to do the same. At first, the rainbow hair girl merely stared, however after muffled shouts of encouragement, eventually she did the same, albeit with her dress which was even less ideal than a meagre t-shirt. The redhead didn’t particularly like this plan of hers, but the clothing has been made by her partner, so she could trust in its quality to help them not inhale dangerous gasses.

Deciding to take the risk first, with her guitar strapped over her back, and all her injuries on show, the still furious redhead made her way towards the stairs, steeling her nerve for just a moment before pushing on in. As soon as she entered the mist, her eyes felt weird and kind of runny, but she felt none of the side affects which had been mentioned earlier, so this certainly helped. Actually… Had Tyrallia even mentioned any earlier? Well, that didn’t matter now, as she had a mission, which was to save the tentacle girl from whatever had been going on up here.

Using only one hand to protect her from the gas, Raine made her way through the haze, her spare arm waving in front of her to make sure she didn’t walk into anything. She hadn’t particularly spent long up on deck, having rushed to go below and check everything out, but she could vaguely remember the layout of the boat enough to not crash into the mast. She was completely unaware of where her target was though.

That was, until she heard another scream coming from her right. Gritting her teeth she waded through the nothingness, moving slowly but meaningfully towards where she’d heard the noise come from. Soon enough she could begin to make out a thin shadow, some form of weapon in hand, looming over a smaller figure, the one which was screaming in agony. Not wasting any time, Raine took a deep breath, and then dropped her shirt, sprinting straight forwards and slamming into the figure, who still seemed a little bit out of it. Before Mary could react, a flurry of rage fuelled punches rained upon her, slamming into her face, neck and chest, causing shadowy droplets of blood to fly everywhere, and the psychopathic woman to begin choking.

“DIE BITCH!”

Her anger from earlier returned, as she continued to punch as hard as she could, keeping a conscious effort on not breathing in. With all the force she was exerting it was difficult, and she knew soon she’d inhale, whether through her top or not. In fact, within a matter of moments she began to feel her lungs burning, screaming for oxygen, yet still she didn’t give up. Her attacks began to weaken slightly, but so did Mary’s resilience, her screams now weaker and her choking slower. Soon this psychotic bitch would pass out, and then they’d be done with her, but… She needed to breathe so bad, but she just couldn’t stop punching, for all the suffering they’d gone through because of this woman.

Suddenly a familiar smell invaded Raine’s airways, as she finally inhaled. Her attacks paused momentarily as she tried to take in what had happened, as she felt a certain warmth around her face. Suddenly the warmth and smell was gone, as she realised what had happened. Her head turned momentarily to notice Mae, stood there breathing in her own dress, having just offered her partner it to give her some more time to work with. She smiled thankfully at her precious butterfly, before going back to beating Mary, who by now wasn’t even holding her arms out, her sword having clattered to the ground a while ago.

With one final, decisive punch, Raine shattered the psychopath’s nose, grabbing her by her neck and raising to her feet. The woman was limp, having clearly not expected the sudden attack, and having been weakened a whole lot by the gas that surrounded them. As quick as she could, the still enraged redhead made her way to the edge of the ship, the one facing out to sea. Her grip continued to tighten as she made sure that Mary was completely out of it, before throwing her with all her might. For someone so strong, this woman was kind of light, but sure enough flew off the edge and into the water with a small splash. There were no noises to follow this, as she presumably sunk into Davy Jones’ Locker, hopefully never to be heard of again.

“And stay there…”

Cursing to herself, the redhead pulled her top back up to her face, rushing back to where she had been to find where Mae was, and then to try and help Tyrallia. The two shadows on the floor gave it away, and she quickly dropped to her knees to inspect the situation. Even through the thick gas, which finally seemed to be dispersing, she could make out the brightly coloured bandages which were being attempted to be applied to…

Raine caught her breath as she realised that the tentacle plant thingy which had once been there, now lay on the floor next to the girl, a few inches away from where she herself knelt. Attached to that was… She couldn’t look, and instead averted her gaze and leant over the girl, beginning to help with the application of the bandage. Once that was done, she’d pick Tyrallia up and take her to a hospital or something. She didn’t know where she’d find one, but they needed to, she wasn’t about to let their doctor die like this, not when she’d just joined. Usually she wasn’t one to be sentimental about this sort of thing, but something about seeing a child die didn’t sit right with her.

Assuming there were no arguments, after her and Mae leaning over the girl for a while, finally she hoisted her up, carrying her in her arms as carefully as she could, recruiting her partner to hold her shirt up until they were out of the gaseous fog. And then she began her walk towards the hospital.

Jean didn't remember falling asleep, but she woke in an unfamiliar bed. She kept her eyes closed. Her shoulder ached, and she could feel a cold breeze blowing over her. The bed was unfamiliar, and the sheets thin. Her clothes felt light, a thin gown. She took a deep breath, wincing as a dull pain came from her midsection. Slowly, she opened her eyes.

She was in a hospital room. Figures. The room was running with a white aesthetic, from the walls to the sheets to the furniture. The window was open above her bed, the net curtain blowing in the breeze. Two chairs sat next to the bed, empty, and a small vase of flowers sat with an empty glass on the bedside table. Jean recognised her clothes in the corner of the room.

Slowly, she peeled back the sheets and set about using her vines to help herself up, to be met with no response. Her eyes moved to her right shoulder. The sleeve of her white hospital gown was empty. She pulled it back, revealing a bandaged stump. The battle with Mary came rushing back. She winced as she pulled herself up into a sitting position with her remaining hand. It felt strange. She'd spent most of her life with only one arm, but it had only taken her six months to adjust to her new limbs and start taking them for granted. She sighed. Maybe it was better this way.

Her hand tentatively went to her chin. She knew what to expect, given the freedom with which her mouth could now move, but she still couldn't help but feel surprised when her fingers, rather than feeling the rough surface of the plant that had latched onto her for the last few months, met the soft, warm texture of human flesh. She honestly wasn't sure how to feel. It felt like she'd shed an old skin, one that had been holding her back, but at the same time she'd become very used to its presence.

She started experimenting with moving her mouth, the muscles on the right hand side having not seen much action since being stuck together by the plant. She had her mouth wide open when the door to the room opened, and she quickly shut it before anyone saw her looking like she was doing an impression of a muted dinosaur.
