I have an idea for a custom professional trait. I've always liked the concept of rare find, but my main character never had room for it in their fighting style or trait distribution. Now though, I have a second merchant character, but that character is a cyborg, and I frankly don't have many unique ideas for cyborg systems for them, and they aren't merchant primary so rare find wouldn't serve its discount purpose. So I came up with an idea, why not a custom trait that functions like Rare Find, but is actually only restricted to cyborg systems. So to put it in more plain terms, this trait would have graders propose cyborg systems appropriate for Jam's cyborg level (that being either Basic, Advanced or NW) at 1.5 the available discount. I chose 1.5 because there is clearly lower risk of getting something shitty involved in this trait than in rare find. Rare Technology (1 Trait) – Requires Merchant profession and any Cyborg traits. A keen merchant always has his eyes and ears open for an exceptional deal, and even more so a cyborg merchant looking for new technology. At the end of every SL, the character will be offered a rare and valuable piece of technology appropriate for their cyborg system and determined at random. This item will have 1.5 their normal discount applied if it is purchased. Is this doable? Edited by Franky, Dec 22 2014, 11:05 AM.

I like the idea. I feel as if most existing Rare Find items (of which few exist) will already have the grader take into account the general build and make of the character, so I find any potential cherry-picking aspects of the cyborg rare-find trait to be minimal. Overall, conceptually, I like it. |
