It was two weeks after the incident with Haru's near-death, and the pair were finally completely healed up and ready to begin training as Ginjo had promised. With the civilians safe- the primary goal was to get Haru stronger so that they could hunt down the captain of the pirates that were on the island and take them down. Of course, that required that this training be completely focused on getting Haru stronger not just in sheer physical abilities- but technique, skill and knowledge, especially experience, something she sorely lacked as well. It was for this reason that Ginjo had left her the note explaining that they would be sparring in the grounds- but not to bring any form of weapons, or armor- just herself. The crew would have already been sifted through, he had found a crew now that accepted everyone- for many reasons. Some were X-Slaves, some came from diverse backgrounds, some simply didn't care about race. He had gained access to them through Tetzou and Dahlia, the fishman was excellent at locating non-racist, good-hearted marines as he found them through his time with the marines himself. They now were gathered in the stands of the sparring grounds, which was essentially a large grass-covered circle with three-foot stone "fencing/walling" around its edges. Kaji was sitting in the front row- eager to see how Haruka's body, improved from the recover after such an extensive fight from before had grown stronger. Ginjo as well, seemed to have increased in strength- and actually begun to more diligently train. He now walked into the ring, hopping the walling as he yanked his shirt off and hung it over the walls edge, cracking his knuckles as he kicked the sandals off as well- revealing the countless scar's that coated the young man's body- including the fact of his right arm, which some actually grimaced at. The arm was covered in thin, shallow scar's- all except the fingertips which were completely lacking their fingernails, ripped from the roots. The damage from his torture about a year ago finally healing completely he had been content to remove the bandaging and show the leather-like arm and hand off. He was not ashamed of it, he was proud that he had endured so much for his comrades sake after all. He patiently waited in the center of the ring, hands calmly at his sides as he waited for Haruka to enter before he'd offer a grin. "We're going to spar using nothing but martial arts. I know you prefer the blade- so do I, so we have to broaden our horizons a bit more so that we can be more well rounded. Plus- this helps with coordination and body movement practice alot more than swordfighting does. No killing, no attacks that could cripple or cause permanent injury. Beyond that no restrictions- any questions?" he asked curiously as he rolled his shoulders, loosening up a bit in preparation. |

Fingers laced behind her head, acting as a sort of makeshift pillow. Haruka would slowly stroll to where she had been directed. Her weapon left behind as instructed, her usual attire being shown quite proud. After all, it was doubtful anyone considered her hooded jacket, muffler and any other means of keeping the sun away from her skin "armor". As she would make it past the stands, she giving the men and women that made up their crew a passing glance. She couldn't help but marvel at just how different they were from the last. She unable to stop grinning, though her smile would be hidden behind that black material. The mere fact that she even had somewhat of a fan base backing her outside of just Kaji was something that warmed her heart. She would offer them a slight wave as she let a near embarrassed chuckle escape her. This was something she would have never seen from the last batch. Of course, in the center of all this would be Gin who was waiting for her in the center of the grounds. A man who had been quite crucial in her recovery. He was after all the Captain to the crew that she was now the first mate of. Someone who rarely left her side whilst she healed up and always made sure she was fed and tended too. It had been an emotional week for the young woman who could only offer this man a hidden smile as she approached. Once she stopped in front of him, she would do what she believed was the "classy" thing to do and bow her head just out of sheer respect for him. No matter how he reacted to the formality, he would then explain what they were doing. Something she could only respond to by nodding her head. In truth she knew this was coming just from her orders. To come here and don't bring her weapon. It was all solidified once she saw Gin out here alone that this would be what was going down. Still, as he asked for any questions, the mischievous Haru couldn't exactly hold her tongue on matters. "Um, yes. Soo you're telling yourself this right? I mean realistically I can't do any of that too you, unless maybe I claw your eye's out." Her tone suggested she was kidding around with the man. She would even add a gesture in to cement it as she raised her gloved hands up and curled her fingers in slightly almost like claws. Aside from looking unintentionally adorable, this would almost make her look even more like her recent nickname of "Cat Haru". Whether he would laugh at her catness or she would just simply move on, she would be sure to let him know it wasn't her accepting weakness."Sucks to be you I guess, just means I get to go all out, and you have to hold back enough to not murder me." Her voice, perhaps for the first time since knowing her showed more confidence than he had seen from her. Sure, she knew she was going to lose this sparring match, but that was what would make her stronger and she knew it. To get kicked down enough times to learn from it, to grow from it. Something that had happened two times already, and each time she just came back stronger. Her confidence would be shown further as they would begin, an eager Haru or a curious Gin allowing her to act first. In either case she would rapidly move forward and very quickly begin an onslaught upon him. A mixture of punches and kicks with came in quick succession. In a fashion which was uncharacteristically savage and aggressive for this sweet woman. Though it would make sense that she wouldn't lose much from not having her blade. After all, her sword acted as more of a literal extension of her arm rather than the more flexible style of a traditional sword which could be moved as the user wished. This would mean that Haru already had some training in her to fight without it since it's dependent upon her physical ability just by design. It wouldn't surprise her if these shots were blocked and dodged. This was merely a showing that she wasn't afraid to go all in on him, and her point would get across to him for sure. If he didn't counterattack her already, Haru would finish her onslaught with what looked to be her going for a high roundhouse. Though as she would lift her right foot up, she would be quick to feint it and simply hop off the ground, spinning her body around backward as she landed on her right foot she planted back down as she whirled the left with her momentum and attempted to dig the heel of her boot into the side of his leg. It was something that to near anyone else in the crew would have taken their leg out from under them. Though to someone like Gin, she wondered the result. Her only hope, and her strategy was to try and do that however, to work his legs over to cut his speed down. Though her initial rush said otherwise, she was fully aware she couldn't take him head on like that. If she could keep an advantage such as speed, she could potentially make this a good showing, as opposed to just a squash match as she anticipated it to be. |

With a grin, Gin would bow back with a nod, before he calmly shifted back as he watched her charge grinning a bit, "Never underestimate yourself ... You would be surprised how much damage you can do to someone, even if they are several times your power level." He murmured, narrowing his eyes as the barrage would fly at him- each time a wrist, forearm or hand would block the strike smoothly or parry it to the side, he knew she was smarter than this- that this would never work as an effective means of defeating him. As such he carefully watched her, keeping with her flow of combat for now as he watched for what she was going to try. He finally spotted it as the feint made it obvious- raising himself a single hand had rose to block the feint. As it proved not a strike and she hopped, he moved with her. His own legs leaping upward as the attempt to knock him over completely missed. Instead as he rolled back mid-air he landed on his open palms, and released a sudden barrage of high-powered kicks flying at her instead- before both legs came down hard, he was holding himself at just above her level- trying to ensure she would have a challenge but not just get curbstomped. He watched as the kicks would fly, and whether she dodged or blocked would vary in his response- as if she blocked he would instead curl with the kicks and leap off her guard to get some distance between them- and possibly send her tumbling. If she dodged he would roll with the power and weight of the kick to land on his feet right back in her face, aiming several rapid jabs at her right flank- followed by a knee aimed at her stomach. The goal was to keep the pressure on if she tried to flee, and get rid of pressure on himself is she decided to push back, neither was a negative or positive move- but he wanted to teach her how to keep the flow of battle going in the favor of herself. That involved knowing when to push and when to get pushed to get things back on common ground so you can keep trying to beat the opponent- it was rare the "charge in" approach worked in a real fight, unless you were already overwhelmingly faster or stronger to begin with. In which case- it didn't matter ether way usually. This was one of the main benefits of experience, learning how to make the flow of battle your bitch- and it was one of the most important things for her to master if she was determined to get stronger. Weight lifting, training against dummies, training against large amounts of weaker opponents, it only got you so far- fighting those far stronger than yourself, that was how you gained the biggest leaps. But if it was to large a gap you got crushed before you learned or gained anything- he needed to hold back at the right level, and if he held back and allowed himself to struggle- this would help him as well. Even if it was far less than helping her, keeping his edge up was still helpful after all. As the two went at it, there were cheers and bets going on about who would land the first serious blow- and surprisingly many were saying Haruka would manage it. The bets of course were usually not allowed, but Gin was hardly a strict leader- he would not mind the encouragement to Haru at all in fact, even silently thank them for it. The girl needed to get her confidence up, and keep it at a maintained neutral level- the other soldiers and Kaji especially had taken great steps in helping that. Kaji as well he had noticed, had greatly amplified himself as well when it came to being social with the new crew. But he brushed off such thoughts, and focused on the spar for now. Haru's grand plan would for the time be put on hold as her feint didn't get the response she had wanted. Where as anyone less trained or not at all calm would have possibly threw their guard up against it preemptively. Gin didn't and was able to avoid the actual attack much to her displeasure. This would of course leave her where she was now, gritting her teeth as she was facing down his retort. The man having flipped back and landed on his palms, he would be sending kicks her way, and just from the wind coming off them she could tell they were not meant to baby her. She had a split second to decide on how to deal with this attack. On one hand she could simply back pedal. Avoid the attack and try to react if she got anything tossed at her. it was an option that was so second nature to her that her body twitched a bit as she attempted to do this. Though the other option would be what she settled on, and willed herself to do. She retained her position and attempted to block. For Haru, she knew what it took to become stronger. You needed to be hurt, you needed the pain and the experience in how to grow from it. Running from it wouldn't get you anywhere. Hell, if Gin could do this, then certainly she could too, right? It certainly would not appear so as she would try and deflect the first few, managing to get one or two before she started just getting kicked in open spots. She wincing and yelping with each one until she was forced to just cover herself up and just try and endure the rest whilst blocking her vitals. She would manage as Gin would soon kick off after she tossed her guard up, the force sending Haru back with a light and involuntary "Oof" escaping her lips. Cute as it may have been, to see her practically crumble to a seated position on the ground. She would be determined to show what she had and she would be quick to rip herself back to her feet. So focused was she on this task would she simply block out the distractions of the crew who were gambling amongst themselves on this spar. She just wanted to badly to at least land a good strike on this man based on her own doing. It wouldn't make her feel better if he "let" her do it, and she knew what it took for her to do so. The man was far stronger and faster than her, so she had to try and be just that much smarter and perhaps even trickier than him. Very slowly, without her guard dropping, she would inch closer and closer to Gin. She easing back into striking range, should he allow her to do so. If he did he would be treated to a very light on her feet Haru who once she was just a step away would leap that short distance, hopping and keeping her left foot not even half a foot off the ground as she extended her right leg forward. It appearing she was going for a knee, though she would plant her foot quite suddenly back to the ground before it hit and she would just as quickly throw a right hook instead aimed for the side of his head. It was a sizable strike which certainly wasn't holding back much. Just enough so that regardless of if it hit or not, she wouldn't be thrown off balance to follow it up. Something she already had in mind granted one thing didn't happen, he catching her fist. If he blocked by trapping her hand or arm than she would be forced to react to that. Although anything else he chose to do, save for grounding her. Even if he knocked her back or leaped back himself, she would only repeat his motion and follow him. After her punch she would be quick to go for a hard sweep of his legs. Once more targeting them as a way to get an advantage. Her hands ready so that if she could get him, she would latch onto his near leg and lock in a hold on it to try and work it over with a submission. |

He focused on her as she charged him after he knocked her over with a cute noise and fall, simply watching her as she drew and arm back and threw a heavy strike at him. Her body language was aggressive- it was obvious she was going to charge him and lay into him with her strike no matter what he did, so he decided the simplest course of action. As the fist shot toward him, he sidestepped just slightly the side as the fist shot past him- and his own open palm slammed into the side of her arm sending it wide, and likely her own weight with it. Breaking her little combo and allowing him to easily hop right over the leg sweep. Instead as he hopped he would aim a hard knee to her chin- which was now flying in close proximity to him with how he shifted her weight away and toward him. The impact wouldn't be pleasant if the knee hit, even though he was holding back- it would still equal quite the stunning blow should it directly hit her in the chin as he was aiming, and likely send her stumbling back- possibly even knock her on her ass again and make her see star's. Of course, if she dodged- well there were several options for what he was going to do, if she dodged to any direction but backwards she would be quick to earn a spin-kick from the leg that was going to knee her instead, yet another thing to dodge when already off-balance. If she tried to block, or minimize the damage through a parry- she would find that a hard elbow was coming down from above immediately after to crack into the dome of her skull from above with her body busy trying to parry or block the knee. Ginjo would hold back his power, but he wasn't going to hold back skill- he was going to make sure she got the proper training of skill over sheer power even if it was the death of him. He needed to test her, push her, draw her into the idea that fighting was more than just a difference in power that she had when she fought the pirate woman. Someone she could have defeated if she fought with more skill than what she had done- if he could cover the bases of skill and experience her combat ability would jump tremendously. The difference in power would follow, but she needed the right mindset ... that's what this was going to be. The next six months of their training would be hard fought to ensure that she got to the level of power that she needed to be at for the Grand Line- so that they could truly begin to work against the pirates and many others. Of course, it was only the beginning. This in mind- after his elbow or his spin-kick, whichever happened based on her reaction- he would leap backwards a bit for more distance and watch her for her reaction to being countered yet again, or lack there of. Emotional control was key- and he needed to see how well she took being continuously countered and foiled, if she got angry he'd have to help her work through that. |

Her sweep would miss and sadly all this would earn her in response would be a knee to her jaw as her body came around. The impact more than enough to send her sprawling to the ground as she spun after the hit to her face in the dirt. Indeed, star were what she saw as she lie there, feet facing him and her body not doing much in the way of moving. It would take a moment, but she would eventually come around, much to the cheering of the men and woman of the stands to see that Haru wasn't giving up. She was a tough one with a lot of heart, and they saw this in her it seemed. Still, it would take a moment for her to shake the cobwebs loose from her mind after that shot before she would begin to pick herself up. Of course by this time, Gin had already created more of a gap between them and this left her to simply react to the situation. It wasn't unnatural for one to be a bit upset with how this was going down. A part of her felt discouraged at she believed he was just toying with her, she knowing she can't actually beat him. This may as well having been just a came of "can I hit him?". Of course, the frustration of her not being able to do so was something that set in, though it would never manifest into anger, but merely fuel her desire to want to figure out a way to do so. She knew it wasn't a fight she could win if he didn't want her too, she just needed to find an opening for a few good shots so she could win in her own little way. Her face would read as that determined look of hers, she not allowing her feelings to cloud her as she simply moved forward to try and do as she wanted. Slowly as she had before without looking to charge in again. She would do her best to gauge how Gin would react, even going as far as to get into a boxing stance of sorts when she got within arms reach again. Showing a certain lightness on her feet as she would keep herself mobile as she would begin to fish for some reaction. She rolling her shoulder as if going for a punch only to never throw her fist more than an inch in front of herself. She would of course keep moving as she did this, ducking to the side. It was certainly a tactic, not one she was certain was going to at all work. She was only hoping to either fake him out and gain a much needed opening to attack, such as him ducking to the side only to get hit in the ribs by her left fist and get absolutely "crushed" by a stiff right hand in a one two punch fashion. Though perhaps crushed was a long shot, and more like a mosquito bite was the term proper. If he counter attacked, then she could only hope she would get a chance to turn it around on him. Side stepping a punch and sending an elbow for his face, or turning a kick into a rolling knee bar. Of course if he backpedaled, well at least she looked pretty as she danced in place. |

The knee collided and he had expected such, simply watching her as she kind of lay there with the world spinning around her with a soft chuckle. Once she finally managed to push herself to her feet he watched as she seemed to go through the phases of emotion- and to his pleasant surprise she kept herself under control. "That's a nice look to you're eyes, Haru." He commented simply with a grin as he raised his arms up and waited for her patiently, as she shifted to a mixture of Muay Thai and Kickbocking, he shifted into the opposite stance as his footing spread and his limbs loosened from a hard stance, one open palm at his side and the other curled slightly like a "Claw" in front of him facing her. The stance was the fluid mixture of Taekwondo and Kung Foo- and as the woman gave off feints he almost seemed to know it was false, not even flinching as she threw the strikes again and again- instead he simply watched and waited. Until finally she threw one aimed for him, and instead of dodging it to get hit as she had intended his eyes were on her whole body, the first strike that came in was swiftly mis-directed as it went upward into the air. As the second strike shot in for his ribs his other arms elbow extended and slammed in-between the knuckles of her punch, jarring, blocking and possibly damaging her fist in one fluid motion. He did not halt however as the second half came from the fist he had knocked up, came to slam down on him he simply sidestepped. Using the opening of her swing flying down directly to the right of him as his free arm was drawn back as she had struck downward, he then sent a heavy left fist strait into her now exposed gut to once more likely send her skidding back if she didn't dodge or block. In the same motion shifting the momentum from a forward fist to roll into the other side of his body and use it to leap backwards and to the right immediately after throwing the blow- both to dodge counter attacks as well as get space between them once more. Keeping distance immediately after a combo for his style was key, he needed to be able to read the opponent before he fought- it was not a hardcore requirement but it was his preference. As he would land he'd keep his stance solid, waiting to see what she was going to do next- he had no issue maintaining this but if she was taking to much damage even with him holding himself back, then they would likely need breaks in-between the exchange of blows. She was doing quite well, her foot work and combat style fit her well- she just was to far below him in sheer speed and power, and experience in the way of seeing through feints. He was used to fighting stronger opponents, so this experience was also helping him learn to control his own power- something worth noting as it would take quite a bit of doing to perfectly learn to control his physical abilities if he was going to keep it all up. |

The way that Gin spoke out to her during this little match of theirs, commenting on the look in her eyes. It was a compliment of sorts, and it would only make her grin to hear it coming from him. "We live by example, isn't that right Cap?" She would question, teasing him for his role amongst the crew. Though formality wasn't his thing, he was still the leader of their little squad and would be treated as such. It was how he conducted himself that these men and women were expected to act. His example setting the mood for the entirety of them. Though, all grins she may have been at the time, that was all but lost as she had pressed on to her attack on him. Her second punch which was countered by the point of his elbow to her knuckles. Something within itself which would have made her reel in pain, to take a step back and cuss up a storm. The attack which followed was just far more devastating to her well being. Her attention on her hand which was currently throbbing, she wouldn't even put up a fight as the follow up attack which bury itself into her gut. This alone would take the wind right from her lungs, save for the fact that she would be launched back. Her body not even rolling as it would just skid across the rough dirt back first. Dirtying up her jacket as she would come to a stop, motionless as her arms wrapped around her midsection as her knees were pulled up, bottoms of her boots resting on the ground. She was in obvious pain from such a direct hit following just another of her numerous swing and misses. It would be a moment or two before motion would be seen, she rolling over to her hands and knees quite slowly. Only once she got to them would she begin to immediately cough, raising a weak hand up to peel back the muffler protecting the bottom portion of her face and spit out any access saliva in her mouth. Anything to try and get herself back in, but that pain in her hand, and now her stomach. It was proving to be a lot to contend with at the moment. For perhaps the first time since this had begun, she would allow herself to look up and to the stands. She watching as a few of them had exchanged money over their lost bets on her. Still breathing heavy it would only cause a heavy feeling to well into her gut, knowing the reason behind this. She had failed them in some way, their wager whatever the conditions had been. A guilty feeling, a returning feeling of just how weak she was. It would only light a fire within herself. Pushing her to her feet though she hadn't gotten her breath back entirely, it being shown as she would stumble about her first steps, only causing her to anchor herself as she took a deep breath. "Never underestimate myself, no matter how worthless I am..." She would begin, a weakened and raspy voice still fighting back for that oxygen. Haru would do her best to raise her fists as she trudged on, letting another loud cough escape her as she gingerly walked. She even giving her injured hand a good shake or two from the pain. Very slowly she would approach Gin yet again, getting within striking distance again. "I may be nothing, but I told you that you're getting everything I got, so eat it!" She would rather proudly say as she approached arms reach from Gin. Although as proud as she was, it wouldn't stop the fact that she was zapped of her strength at the moment, not that it mattered in all reality. Still, she would show as much heart as one could imagine, an incredible amount of guts and courage as she would throw a punch. Wild in nature, aimed for his head which would without a doubt miss. She wasn't expecting to hit him as it was quite sluggish in execution, and even if it did, it wouldn't have even begun to hurt. It was just a showing of not looking to back down. Gin's eyes softened as she fell, struggling so hard to get back up and come back at him. Gently, almost effortlessly he caught her punch- before pulling her toward him simply in a hug as he would grin a bit. "You're not worthless, Haruka. Nor are you nothing. Look at you ... a month ago, do you think you'd even be conscious after a single blow from me?" He grinned a bit at her as he would release her and hold her by the shoulders, looking into her eyes- "You're going to be even stronger than I am. It will take time, but it'll happen. You have far more sheer skill then I do ... and your growth rate is incredible." He would motion toward the benches and grin, "No one can fight forever and get something from it. Resting is needed. Let's take an hour break- grab some water and a snack and rest some before we start again, alright?" He would ruffle her hair lightly- much like a big brother almost before he would make sure she didn't need help to get to the benches. When they got there he would sit her down and wave the crew off, "Get off- the lot of you. Go back to work, you don't need to be watching us the entire time after all- you have your own jobs to do as well! Keep watch over the civilians!" They saluted with grins, despite how much they knew it aggravated him before they scattered off. Muttering under his breath he would lean back and cross his legs under the table with a smirk, "Your progress is amazing. A month ago that elbow would have broken your hand ..." He pondered, gently reaching over and feeling her hands knuckles carefully, going up the tendons to her wrist and so forth with a thoughtful 'hum'. "Not a single thing out of place. Some bruising probably but that's it ... If you can keep this up you'll be as strong as I was when we met in half a year, at most ..." Blinking slowly he laughed a bit at this. "It took me sixteen years to get to that point you cheeky cat!" His grin almost seemed to grow even more as he shook his head in wonder and leanded back, rubbing his chin in thought. "Maybe I'll have to drop my other studies and really start getting into martial arts and swordsmanship again ... I never dedicated myself like you have been. If we both focus we'll be able to pose a real threat to Pirates in the Grand Line and have the power to back up our desires to protect the innocent here." He murmured, before blinking a few moments in thought. "I'm glad I made you my first mate ... you're not just improving yourself." He grinned even more, "You're making me want to better myself, as well." Chuckling in amusement he settled down and began to munch on his meal, it was a simple snack really- but with the civilians now in the base they were able to get real food flowing. A simple cup of stew made from beef and vegetables, with a roll on the side. Grinning a bit as he sipped his water between bites he eyed her, "What do you want to improve on, besides basic combat? There's alot I can probably start to teach you as far as technique manifestation and so forth as well after all." He questioned curiously, wondering if she would want to actually learn more than basic strength, speed and stamina from they're training sessions. Edited by HeartOfLight, Nov 18 2014, 09:17 AM.

To have her fist caught alone would be enough to cause he to grit her teeth, but to be pulled in as she had been. Without room to be blamed, she would of course mistake this action as an attack from him. His arms wrapping around her with the full intent of popping his hips and slamming her into the ground. Though the slamming nor popping would never happen. It would leave her a chance to try and wriggle her way out, yet it would be unsuccessful as he didn't let go, and instead would speak out to her. His words soft and caring, hitting her far deeper than the punch to her gut, and yet it would cause her stomach to drop slightly. This wasn't an attack, it was a hug, and the realization would cause her to cease her struggles. Being pulled back so that his hands would rest on her shoulders, he looking into her eyes. She almost couldn't help but find herself looking away as a flurry of emotion hit her from the kind words, it was still so uncommon to feel this appreciated. She would only nod, albeit a bit sheepishly as he suggested the break for them. Though the ruffle of her hair would earn a grin from her and a far more girlish giggle than she would like to admit slip from her. She could tell her was watching her carefully, ensuring that she was fine no doubt and that she could function without any help, something she would wave off. "I'm fine, my hands sore, but you just winded me with that punch, that's all." She would lie, not wanting to tell him just how bad her stomach throbbed. It wasn't anything serious, and it would go away after a bit of time, but it was quite painful. She took the hit and was certainly able to walk, but it took a lot of focus and willpower to not let on to just how much it affected her. Still, she would make it to her seat, hoping that she didn't slip in a step along the way, anything that wasn't part of the norm for her. Though she would gingerly sit and that wouldn't exactly help her little covert mission of sorts. Still with the crew doing their whole group salute to aggravate Gin, perhaps she would have slipped under the radar a bit. She offering them a light wave as they all dispersed, a few of them giving her their approval in a loud and verbal fashion. Shouting such things as "Hang in there" "Always next time" and "Good job". It would only further warm her heart to see such things amongst the crew. It making her happy to be here and amongst the lot that didn't seem to hate her based on the slight difference. An almost minute one at that as she was still a human, just with a hatred for the sun as evidenced by her pale skin. Gin would shortly go back to complimenting her, getting an uneasy laugh out of her. It wasn't that he himself made her uneasy, a part of her just felt she didn't deserve as much attention as she was getting. That very part of her would feel a heavy amount of disappointment in herself, for being unable to even lay a hand on her now mentor. It was a natural feeling, after all, she had just lost the spar. Though she knew that she would, it didn't make failure any easier to swallow. This above all else would make the fact that she would be able to feed off this, to push it to the back of her mind for motivation. To push herself harder to the point that she could do those things that she wanted. Clear goals set in her mind, being able to hit him in these matches, and then being able to floor him to the eventual victory. Though her outward appearance, the look on her face which read the disappointment she felt, on the inside she was glad to have had this happen, for what it would bring. Fortunately this face would shift as Gin went about messing with her hand, checking for anything wrong. Thankfully he found nothing but a wincing Haru looking back at him. His prediction would at least lighten her mood enough that she would smile, even offering him the gesture that she had prior to the spar at the mention of her being a "cheeky cat". Living true to her nickname as she brought her arms up again with her "paws" facing him. Though this time it was a bit halfhearted, she just trying to show him that she was fine if he showed any concern. She would if he didn't though, when he mentioned maybe dropping his studies to focus more on other things. She wanting to protest as she didn't want him to feel like he had to give up things he cared for. Though once he got to the reason, she felt a lump in her throat. He was glad she was his first mate, she was making him want to better himself. It was something she couldn't explain herself, it was so emotional this feeling. Almost as if she had won an award for something she spent her whole life upon. "Y-you mean that?" She couldn't help but find herself questioning. A look into her eyes would show a look of wonder and joy which was rarely seen, hopeful that he wouldn't pull the rug from under her and be all "Yeah, just kidding". Though when it didn't happen, she couldn't help but begin to beam with happiness. "Better yourself? You're already way better than me though, I don't understand how I can help you there." She would ask with that very happiness added to a genuine question of hers, a bit of confusion sprinkled on top. After a moment of two, she would finally turn her attention to her lunch, packed by the old woman from the church who had acted as the medical official in saving her life. She coming an island in the East Blue would prepare a meal in a style which had slowly became Haru's favorite. Something which only made her even happier as she peeled away the wrapping to see a bowl of traditional Ramen with a free rice balls as a side dish to it. Though she hurt, this would heal those wounds, at least mentally for her. Chopsticks in hand she would immediately go for the Ramen, getting a far bigger helping than she could handle. Gin's question would catch her off guard as she would spin her head around to face him, a long trail of noodles hanging from her mouth, the ends still in the bowl. Her eye's wide and yet innocent, it was yet again one of the more adorable sites from this woman. Quickly slurping it up with a loud sigh, she would move on, after perhaps being poked at by him for that display. Finally coming up with an answer quite quickly. "I told you, I trust you to know what's best, so where do you think I'm lacking?" She would announce with a confident nod of her head before she went back to her meal. |

He eyed her as she seemed to shrug off his assistance but he kept a wary eye on her just encase. As they settled in for their food he leaned back and stretched some, grinning at how happy she seemed- he was glad. He wasn't lying about any of it after all, and it was good to see her happy about the results- even if it was rather indirect in it's method. He grinned a bit at her words and shocked expression, "Of course I'm serious. Geez, as if I'd lie about somthin' like that ..." Gin shook his head in amusement at the young woman before he arched a brow at her question on how she could help him improve. "Pretty easily, actually. You can help me grow by keeping me on my toes and helping me remain diligent in our training sessions- for now It's true, you won't help me grow stronger in sheer power much. But you'll help me stay sharp and shake the rust off- experience, is far more important than sheer power generally." He nodded a bit as he grinned at her choice of food, "Besides- once you catch up to me, and you will at this rate, you'll start pressuring me into having to really fight for my life anyway against you and get stronger the old fashion way. No ones really bothered with me in that regard, you're the first." Grin's smile was sincere as he ate his soup happily in the peaceful quite for now, taking spoonfuls in and sipping his tea occasionally before he glanced at her as she answered his question with her own in a way. Debating this he tapped his foot on the ground in thought- "The most important I think will be teaching you Rokushiki ... the skill required to make the shockwaves and high leveled techniques is high. I need to work on them myself, they're all quite high level, even at they're weakest point." He pondered this before blinking and grinning a bit at her- "That along with natural power growth and experience, strategic skill ... and maybe teaching you that there is no 'fair' in a fight." He set aside the empty bowl and eyed her a moment in thought, "What's your view when it comes to hitting below the belt? Dust in the eyes, nutshots, hamstrings, so forth?" The question was rather vital- as it dictated one of two things. Was she a fighter, or a soldier? A soldier did what they needed to win, period. It didn't matter if it was below the belt, pride, mercy, honor, none of that helped keep you alive- they were fighting pirates and slavers. People who would not hesitate to poison you, weaken you, hit your loved ones, hamstring you, hit your eyes- anything to win the fight. They had to be just as brutal or they're own lives would be rather short. |

Haru's smile would widen as Gin began to talk, adding more hope for her as he began to speak out on her role in helping him. Her doubts from a moment ago were quickly dispersing as he would assure her of how he felt about her. Much of it about how quick she could catch up to him in strength and just how much of a handful she could be if she did. It would make sense as she has a strong mix up game when in close quarters. Something that people on an equal field with her have a problem with as when your reaction time isn't as much as say Gin's whom she appears slow too. To be forced to react to so many possibilities can be a bit daunting. Mix that in with her feints that she can force reactions with if misread. "Well, I hope I don't disappoint." She would say with a bit of a nod after slurping down some more of her noodles. Gin would continue to speak about what she could use, and during his talking she would have already turned her attention to the rice balls she had been packed with. She slowly picking one up and holding it out to Gin with that look in her eyes, a look which made people melt away essentially as she innocently offered him one. Both of her golden eyes trained on him as her free hand practically shoveled one of the others into her mouth. Whether he would accept it or not, it would be eaten at some point. Regardless, she would simply turn her attention to Gin as he mentioned something, Rokushiki. It would be enough to get her to pause for a moment, some loose bits of rice hanging from the corner of her mouth as she mouthed the word to herself "Roku....Shi.....ki" So slow was it in the lightest of tones as she nodded her head along with it. Even she couldn't explain why, just a natural reaction she supposed. Perhaps a motion which assisted her, or made her feel as if she were somehow correct even if she wasn't. Still, she would make a misstep, or stumble on a word or two, but all together she would say it with an eighty percent accuracy rating. "I've heard of that actually....I think.....maybe." She would begin with the utmost certainty in her voice....slowly deteriorating with each word that followed. "It's uh...um..nope not at all I guess." annnd she would give up with that, simply turning back to her meal as if nothing had happened. Many a facepalm would have been shared had the crew not already dispersed. No doubt Gin would explain it, but before that she would turn her attention back to his other question about "dirty tactics". It would make her frown a bit as she didn't like to think of such things, but of course she herself didn't hold her own to such a high regard to not use them. After all, in her fight against the backstabber, she did use one of those tactics. "About as far as I go is kicking dirt in someones eyes. I believe more in the appropriate response theory. Stab me in the back, dirt in the eyes kind of thing." Her voice matter of fact as she would reference that fight in the tunnel, but it would be enough to answer Gin into knowing she didn't fight completely fair at all times. Only when someone themselves fought dirty would she do so, and if an enemy fought honorably, she too would engage in it, too the death if it came to it. Edited by Shimura, Nov 20 2014, 03:41 AM.

He blinked at the riceball, accepting it and chuckling at her innocent glance- munching on it contently as he eyed her when she seemed to know of Rokushiki- before he chuckled as it seemed she didn't after all. Instead he leaned back and propped up his feet a bit as he finished the rice off and prepared to explain to her- "Rokushiki is a unique and advanced martial art style revolving around perfect manipulation of every single muscle and tendon of the body at will. They are difficult for even the most experienced and skilled martial artists to perform, and take an immense level of dedication to learn even on of the six styles." Stretching slowly he eyed her, "I think Kami-E would most likely suit you the best ... none the less. There are six as I said- the first is known as Shigan, a powerful jab that turns your strike into the speed and piercing power of a bullet. Usually done with a finger. Then comes Rankyaku, a spinning blade of pure cutting force manifested into the air itself through a high speed kick. They are the offensive forms of Rokushiki that you often see used by many, they are the simplest." Rubbing his chin as he explained, he took another sip before eyeing her and giving a bit of a smile. "Though both are useful I find Shigan to be the most so- Rankyaku is good for long range if you lack other options however." As he continued he would glance toward the sky, counting them off as he went on his fingers. "Then there is Soru- a high speed movement technique that lets you move at incredible speeds so that you can traverse any area you normally could get to running practically instantly. Then Kami-E, a style that lets you move like the breeze- dodging strikes through instinctual and high level movements. Those two fit you the most I think." He nodded a bit at her as they seemed to fit her general style of speed and movement, footwork and versatility over sheer defensive or offensive power that the rest would grant. "Tekkai is next ... it lets you harden your body to Iron-like levels of durability, makes you quite hard to actually harm. Geppo is the last ... it lets you run and walk on air and underwater, highly useful and versatile for many situations- for obvious reasons." He chuckled a bit as he rubbed his nose, "It's also extremely hard to master ... I'm still working on mastering Shigan and Rankyaku ... it'll be a long time before I can make this all work effectively. But once I do- teaching you will likely go a long way to increasing your actual versatility as well, honestly." He grinned a bit at her, knowing she would likely look at him as she usually did when he explained things- curiously and a bit bemused. At her explanation of her choice for under the belt tactics, he nodded a bit- seeming satisfied with the idea's she had explained. As long as she was willing to fight dirty if it came down to it, that's all the mattered really- he hardly had the requirement of her that she had to fight that way all the time as he did. |

Haruka would of course listen to the explanation he gave as she finished up her meal with the utmost diligence on her part. She wanted to learn and to get better and a part of that would depend on how well she could recieve commands and follow them. This Rokuwhathaveyou did seem quite interesting to her, and it only made her grin to hear that he hadn't quite gotten it down himself. "Well, if you learn it, then I will master Rokuwhoboo!" Her tone, the certainty and assertiveness of her tone, it wasn't a statement, this was a pledge. Of course, the seriousness was stripped away as she would mispronounce Rokushiki as a word, and not just by a little bit either. Still, the seriousness of her face as she looked on at Gin, at least the thought counted right? At worst, one could at least award her an A for effort. Gin would only nod at her answer when it came to dirty tactics, and a lack of feedback other than that didn't satisfy her catlike curiosity. She almost felt the need to talk further just to get him to verbally give feedback so she had a better way of gauging his overall views. "It's not that I believe in honor, but if my opponent is as such than it's what they get from me. If they are dirty, then they will get that right back." Her tone would be a tad matter of fact as she spoke, merely speaking to speak at this point. "I know I should always just go full out with the kitchen sink and such. I just like to keep things....refined if I can. It's what separates me from my island all the more, I'm no longer an animal like the rest of them." It would be clear in the way that she spoke, this was actually a fairly important subject for her. Not so much over dirty fighting but regarding anything that separates her from them. They were the wild lions that ripped anything apart, and she was practically a domesticated house cat at this point in comparison. Still, as the conversation would wind down, and she would pack her meal back into it's pack. She would let out a long yawn as she stretched her arms out, kicking her legs out as well. The look in her eyes read that she wanted to take a nap for a few minutes, though they both had to know that the training regiment wouldn't allow it. Still, with a full belly now, she would feel the drowsiness hitting her hard. "So what now....Gin?" She would ask, breaking off mid sentence as another yawn would hit her. |

It was hard for Gin to look at her seriously when she mispronounced the word so largely, but he simply would pat her head a bit and try to look serious as well. "Good. It'll help you improve alot I'm sure." He stated in a voice strained as he took several breaths to not laugh, before his brow rose more as she continued and simply listened with a frown at her comparison to the others of her island. "You aren't like them anyway. But I understand what you mean." He nodded some, before he leaned back and he slowly frowned. "I wasn't taught honor or pride. My teachers were my parents ... Dad fought since he was a kid, in an Arena as a slave- he fought to win, period. It didn't matter how, that carried over, even if he didn't kill after that." His frown softened a bit and almost grinned, "Mom just didn't believe in it. Winning was what mattered to her- so she taught me to fight as dirty and sneaky as I had to in order to get the job done." Shrugging a bit as he stretched slowly and seemed content to let his muscles relax. It was going to be a long training session today- so it was best to keep things relaxed and easy to move and work. Blinking a bit as she asked what now he grinned a bit, "Rest for a bit longer, and then we get back to training. I figure sparring sessions of thirty minute spans, with fifteen minute breaks will your stamina runs out- and then we'll get actual work done around the camp." Grinning a bit he would lean back and relax as he focused a bit on the sun in the sky, thinking quietly to himself as he closed an eye slowly. "One day would you like to go back to your people?" He pondered aloud, glancing toward her as he slowly opened his eye once more- focusing on her as he knew this was an important subject. "Show them they don't have to be the way they are to be strong ... and maybe knock sense into them, help them?" His words were curious on this as he intertwined his fingers in thought. He knew she was touchy on the subject- but he also knew that she trusted him (or he hoped so) and would confide a bit with him. None the less- touchy subjects meant to tread carefully (especially with women). With this in mind he would add as an afterthought and clarification- "Obviously if you don't want to talk about it we don't have to." He smiled a bit gently, to show he truly meant no harm before he settled down simply into the chair and glanced at the sky as the clouds rolled by slowly. "But, if you were interested in the idea- after this chaos is done and over with, it could be something that we look into. Perhaps give you some closure." He closed his eyes, once more relaxing as he waited for her response, seeming very laid back today- even more than usual despite the training. |
