Though it took the deaths of two of them to figure it out, the third bat had finally realised that trying to eat Danny would do it no good. He might have smelled and looked real, but he did not taste like human flesh at all. Therefore, the bat decided to switch it's target to the other man that had invaded it's lair: Neo. The fishman would be in trouble if he had to deal with that many at a time, despite how relatively weak they were individually. Despite gaining one more opponent, Neo didn't seem to be doing too badly. In fact, he made excellent use of the pool of liquid Danny had created around himself, scooping some up to use as bullets that took down one of the bats. He was however caught off-guard when one rammed straight into him, having to wrestle it off before he could slit it's throat for the kill. By this time Danny had already begun running over to Neo, extending the pool of liquid so that it now covered most of the cave. Now that there was liquid beneath the remaining bats, he was able to summon two walls of liquid in their paths. Though one would normally expect it to not function very well defensively, it was in fact as tough as a block of iron. The bats would be hit hard if they flew into it, but even if they avoided it there was still something in store for them. "I would say being avoided by giant bats is better than having them attracted to me." Danny commented in reply to Neo's statement, as two blasts of liquid came shooting out of the walls. Each was aimed at one of that bats, exactly as he had dealt with the other two he had only just taken down. It was incredibly tempting to suddenly rush into close combat with them, since it was the style of fighting he had trained for most of his life, but he had to hold back because he was trying to focus on trying out his newer skills. Danny swooped in to his rescue even as the two pumped up bats did, two large walls of liquid being formed between them and Neo as they swooped down towards the fishman standing on the ground. At what point had he asked for Danny's help, he wouldn't admit it but he was to proud to ask for help, even from someone he'd known for so long like Danny, but he wouldn't and he wasn't going to. Meaning that of course Danny's walls came as quite a surprise to him, and the even greater surprise was when one of the bats hit the wall with a sickening crunch, the other jackknifing around it and carrying on it's path for the fishman whom the walls were trying to protect. Yet again though Danny tried to protect Neo, firing off two bursts of liquid from his walls that were aimed at the bats, it seemed that even in the short time since he'd consumed the fruit Danny had gotten quite a hold over it if he could do things like this without any evident strain. I mean, he'd heard that other devil fruit users could do a lot more and a lot stronger things, but considering how long Danny had the fruit for Neo at least was impressed, though he had no other devil fruit user to compare Danny to so he wasn't sure if he should be. But anyway, the bat that was already crunched up against one wall was hit dead on with the bullet, it's lifeless corpse sliding down the wall as blood began to pour out of the wound, showing even if it's lifelessness didn't that the bat was well and truly dead. The second bat though proved to be a hard bugger to kill, spinning away from the bullet and flying out before making a wide arc towards Neo once again. Seeing the creature coming Neo reasoned that considering it had avoided Danny's liquid bullets it would probably avoid any of his projectile attacks. Neo dropped Ripple back into it's sheath, grasping Ember in both hands and exhaling to calm himself. Neo began spinning Ember around in his hands as fast as he possibly could, feeling the wind building up around him due to the vacuum and displacement that the rapidly spinning sword was causing. Hair flying wild and the liquid around him being slowly forced away the bat came on fearlessly straight into Neo's spinning blade, and then as quick as it began it was over. The rapidly spinning blade shredding the bird as it came on in a way similar to a lawnmower, throwing bits of the carass out to the sides as it was demolished. Once all the blood and viscera was flung away Neo stopped the spinning, the blade having already been cleaned by the pure speed of the spin, replacing it back in the scabbard and surveying the small cleared section of ground he stood on in which the liquid had been pushed back and was now littered with bat body parts. "Well i think that went rather well don't you?" Neo said with a chuckle, wiping blood off of his armor and flattening his hair back down. |

Danny's walls proved highly effective, though one might have been avoided the other had a bat smash straight into it at full velocity. The resulting impact against the unexpectedly hard liquid knocked it out for good, leaving it to slide almost comically down the construction. The sight of this sparked an excellent idea for another way to use the walls; he could crush enemies between them or even set up an array surrounding an opponent in order to completely entrap them. However, it took a lot of effort to create just the two walls he had, and they collapsed only a few seconds after forming. He would need quite a bit more practice in order to pull off the ideas he had. The already collapsed bat was hit dead on by the liquid bullet, finishing it off such that it had no chance of getting back up again. The other proved adept at avoiding however, possibly a result of being a more experienced creature or just more aware of it's surroundings. It was the only one of the group remaining, and was completely fixated on taking down Neo. Was it after revenge for it's comrades, or was it merely driven by hunger? Though Danny was tempted to intervene, he decided to leave the last one for Neo to take down so that he didn't steal all the glory. Besides, when he saw the fishman begin to spin his blade like a turbine he realised that there was no need to help in the first place. Had the bat been even slightly more intelligent it could have noticed that diving towards it's prey now would be nothing more than suicide, but unfortunately the lust for a meal was too much for it to suppress. The animal flew straight into the rotating blade, shredding much of it to pieces and throwing a large amount of bat gore around the cavern. The air flow from the spinning might have pushed the liquid away, but Neo couldn't stop himself from being splattered red. Even the liquid covering the floor was now tinted red, giving Danny a slightly uncomfortable feeling knowing that it was technically a part of his body. "I suppose so." Danny said in response to the fishman, cleaning himself of the blood stains with liquid as he gave his views on the confrontation. "However, I'm not sure those were the people we were looking for. You know, on account of them not being human and stuff." |

Neo carefully wiped the gore off of himself, pulling off strings of entrails and wiping off the slick coating of blood that covered him, it wasn't pleasant to be covered in blood but it was hell to get off of him, maybe it would be better if he waited for it to dry when it would flake off anyway and wouldn't be sticky anymore. Well either way it wasn't the biggest of his concerns so after trying for a few seconds he felt that he had got off a lot of the worst bits and could continue , not that having blood on him would really cause him to have any problems, it was more of a vanity thing. Neo surveyed the scene, all of the bats were accounted for, although the fact that these had surprised them did mean there was always the possibility of more winged predators coming at them from above, though Danny and Neo could not really be counted as prey. Neo kept a firm grip on his two swords, better safe than sorry, making sure that not even a slight speck of blood remained on his blades, they were his livelihood, his blades were his number one concern. If the blades had blood on them he needed to get it off before it set onto the steel, then he'd have to scrub the whole thing down and that was a pain to do, satisfied however that there was no blood on either sword he allowed them to drop slightly in his hands so he wasn't carrying them upright and offensive anymore. "I hadn't really noticed you know, but then again no one in this cave is completely human are we," Neo chuckled, referring to the fact that he was in fact a fishman and that Danny had giant wings sprouting out his back. That and the fact that Danny had consumed a devil fruit, meaning that Neo wasn't even sure if he could be at all classed as human now. But he wouldn't voice that as it didn't really bother him, he'd stick with the winged doctor anyway. "Shall we continue" Neo said in a posh pisstake voice, even though things were as they were that didn't mean he couldn't try to inject a little bit of humour into things. Neo began moving through a hole in the wall that led into another passage, but this one was blocked by fallen rocks and what appeared to be half of the ceiling. "It looks like there's been a cave in, can you see any other passages other than the one we came in through....don't tell me we came this far to be blocked by nature." Neo kicked a rock in annoyance, resulting in him hurting his foot more than anything, but it felt good to do at least. |

"Touché" Danny replied in response to what Neo had said about there being no humans in the cave, since the statement was pretty much true. Although at a stretch the winged boy could have been considered mostly human by ignoring the wings on his back, in truth the limbs weren't even artificial and had been a part of him since his birth. With such a noticeable phenotype programmed into his genome, he could not really be passed as a regular guy. He didn't even have others of his kind like Neo, unless his father has passed the research onto anyone else. With the area cleared, Neo lead the way through the tunnel they had not entered from only to find it blocked by a collection of rocks, likely due to a cave-in as the fishman suggested. It certainly did seem anticlimatic for their adventure to be stopped by such a petty obstacle, and Danny was not about to just let it slip between his hands without trying. "Stand back a moment" He advised, turning to face the blockade with an outstretched hand. He let some liquid drip down slightly before firing one of his projectiles at the rocks, taking out a small chunk of it. However, while it had worked he seemed to be disappointed by the results. "Perhaps something a little more... direct" This time moving a little closer to his target, Danny took a slightly lowered stance with his knees bent a little and one arm ahead of the other. He also had the foot on the same side forward, and his left wing was extended while his right wing wrapped around to the side a tad in order to protect the otherwise unguarded side. This was actually unneeded since he wasn't about to fight anything that could fight back, but habit took hold of him and the stance made him more sure in his attacks. With a yell, he took a powerful step forward and struck the rock with his right arm and wing, this time blowing away sizeable chunks of boulder. In fact, it was enough to reveal the passage on the other side, until a rumbling signalled that rocks were falling back into place from the ceiling. This would have been fine, had it not lasted an uncomfortably long time and resonated throughout the cave. "I get the feeling things will go badly if we try to break through. It might be best that we leave." Techniques |

So it seemed Danny agreed that none of them were exactly human. He was not particularly knowledgeable about Danny's past and he'd allow it to stay like that if that was how his winged companion wished it to be, but he had been wondering how exactly Danny had got those wings, it seemed unlikely that he had been born with them as they didn't seem to fit with the rest of the doctor's body. He considered the possibility of an experiment gone wrong but it was unlikely that Danny would perform those sorts of experiments on himself, maybe it was just a freak of nature kind of thing like a fishman being born to two humans. Some things just had no explanation and that could be one of them, although unless Danny brought it up himself then there was no way that Neo was going to pry into his life before they met. They currently maintained a more than healthy relationship and he had no desire to destroy that by prying to far into the winged man's past. Of course he hadn't exactly told Danny much of his own past, Danny hadn't asked him either and while he'd be happy to tell if he was asked he wasn't exactly just going to randomly bring it up, he had nothing to be ashamed about it was just something that he felt no real need to talk about.. It was interesting to think that the two of them had known each other for so long and yet neither knew of anything about the others from Before they met. Maybe it was for the best that they didn't focus on the past and instead focused on the present, in their line of work people who were lost in the past tended not to last long in the present. "Stand back a moment" What exactly was Danny going to do, it was a blockage of solid rock, sure Neo could probably take it out with some of his more newly devised techniques but if they did then surely they'd make enough noise to wake the dead and allow the people they were hunting down plenty of time to escape or even set up a trap if they were inclined to. That on top of the fact that last time they had fought together Danny seemed not to have the ability to punch through solid stone as he seemed to want to do now, Neo could only really manage it because of his sword and his natural fishman affinity with water, and even then it wasn't particularly decent as he couldn't pierce through to big an amount. Then it came to light, Danny wasn't going to punch the rock wall, he had been focussing so much on his memories of Danny's martial skills that he had completely forgotten about his ability to control this strange liquid, he only realised what Danny was about to do as he saw a thin tendril of liquid drip down slightly off of Danny's hand before being fired rapidly into the solid wall of rocks that was blocking their path to their prey that was hopefully on the other side. Unfortunately, while a chunk of the rock came loose and went clattering down to the floor overall it seemed to not have had much effect, it had been quite cool to look at but it hadn't really done the job properly and so essentially meant that he had failed. Neo was about to speak up and suggest that they both go at it together, surely the two of them combined could break through this wall if they put their all into it and Neo used some of his own fancy techniques along with Danny's. But it seemed that Danny had ideas other than this and was ready to try himself at least once more, he obviously iddn't like being beaten, especially by inanimate objects. "Perhaps something a little more... direct" Danny moved in much closer to the target, standing about an arm's length away from the wall of rock that blocked their way, lowering his stance slightly and bending his knees with one arm in front of the other. It seems that Danny had tried his new power and it hadn't worked and so now he was going back to the good old martial arts that Neo really knew him for. All of his left wings including his wing were extended forward in front of him whilst his right were held back slightly, his right wing curling around slightly to guard his unprotected side. It was completely unnecessary in this situation as all that was to his right was a rock wall, yet it showed that Danny had a fair amount of combat experience as out of habit he had slipped into a fully guarded stance even though all he was doing was breaking down a bit of rock. Or rather that's what he was hoping to do this time, his last attempt had failed so now he was reverting back to his habitual martial arts in which he had rather a lot more experience, Neo looked on intrigued as Danny set himself up for his next move. Whilst martial arts and swordplay utilised different objects to do their damage the basics of a stance were pretty much the same meaning Neo could partially read Danny's movements, such as guards and the basis of a stance seeing as he would sometimes use similar stances with his sword, they were the same just Danny used his fists and wings instead of a sword. This time Danny took a solid step forward, moving all his body weight behind him as he thrusted an arm and fist into the rock wall. Neo could only gawp in amazement as a sizeable hole appeared in the blockage, enough so that the passage on the other side was visible, he was about to congratulate his friend when... An ominous rumble sounded throughout the cave, rocks fell back into the gap covering it up once again yet the rumbling carried on, it sounded decidedly vicious and slightly scary, almost as if the cave could fall on them at any moment. Made worse by the way it bounced off of all the rock about them and echoed ominously. When it did eventually stop Neo felt like at any moment the cave could fall on them, maybe it wasn't really worth this trip. He tried to justify to himself leaving the cave, thinking that the people they were after had probably left after all of that rumbling, either knowing it to be the sign of someone or just plain being scared of getting caved up in here, it wasn't really worth putting themselves in danger and carrying on when it was unlikely anyway that their prey were still here. They should probably just get out of danger themselves and go right now...right now. But then once again before he got time to voice it himself, Danny spoke up once again, in the process saving face for Neo as he brought up the idea of getting the hell out of there. "I get the feeling things will go badly if we try to break through. It might be best that we leave." Neo saw his chance and agreed "Yeah i guess things could go very wrong very fast if we carry on, let's just go, this was only more of a side activity to pass the time than anything." Neo then led Danny out of the chamber again, past the minced corpse of one bat and the intact corpses of the rest, up once again through the now slightly uphill sloped passage, watching as the light slowly invaded the passage as they got nearer to the exit. Coming out of the cave once again Neo had to close his eyes for a few seconds, after being in the dark it took his eyes some time to adjust as he rapidly opened and closed them. As soon as his eyes adjusted though he began dragging Danny back to the town, hoping to see something that he hadn't sene ni ages at the docks. And he did, bobbing in the water alongside a myriad of trading vessels was their ship, it wasn't nearly as big as some of the cargo ships nor was it the smallest as an array of white fishing vessels were also docked here. Neo practically dragged Danny through the whitewashed village, ignoring the stares that a fishman and a winged man were incredibly likely to draw as he made a beeline straight for the docks, he didn't really know why he was so eager to leave this island, it could be due to the fact that all he'd had here were scares and misfortune, he had no good memories of this place and so that was probably why he was so eager to leave. No one stood in their way, to scared of the frightfully exotic combination they created on an island such as this in all their colours and weirdness, people seemed to part before them like the red sea before moses making his job of getting through them all the easier. As soon as he reached the boat he got on with Danny, taking off his pack and throwing the now not needed cans of paint to the side of the dock, some lucky person would find them, he had no need for them so someone else should have the paint which was treated as currency here. Slicing the mooring rope with a flick of Ripple he cast them off and submitted them to the weird waters of the grandline of which he had no idea how to sail through. That was most definitely Danny's area of expertise, altohugh he had no idea if even Danny knew how to navigate here, well i guess they'd see if and when they arrived at the next island. |
