The gruff retort seemed to be met with only more probing curiosity, the young man pulling out a very familiar sheet of paper with his face on, though not one he’d had to worry about in some time. It still irritated him, fuckin 200 mill, what kind of chump did they think he was? Even fucking hastings managed a bigger number than that. He was easily worth double the figure, yet in their infinite wisdom the world government had seen fit to freeze his bounty and grant him immunity as a pirate, what a bunch of schmucks, so while he wasn’t particularly pleased with the price itself he would take the opportunity to run amok unrestrained.

”Ain’t that a little too weird?” he queried aloud as the man spoke of his sword as though it were another person, uttering it’s name and giving it’s intentions as if there were a consciousness within it. In fairness it wasn’t as though his own sword didn’t have a name but it’s use served more as a symbol of renown rather than a medium for his own schizophrenia ”Ya ain’t never gonna get yer dick wet with habits like that ya know.” offering the advice in terms any red blooded young male would understand. After all money, women and power were the three motivations that existed in this world were they not?

Seeing the drawn blade there was a little spark of hope within izuru, the hope that perhaps after having to bend to the whims of the general populace for so long he might get to let off a little steam striking someone down, he didn’t much care who at this point, anyone that altered the monotony of using yogi as a training partner day in and day out would be a welcome reprieve, but the words that came next shattered such illusions. He got the kids name, and it sounded like he was looking for him but if all he wanted was a little chat then they were done here, conversation was all he’d spent the last month enthralled in, it was dead to him. ”Nah I’d be no use for something like that, ain’t never heard of him.” His long legs already making tracks as he spoke the words, hands slithering into his pockets as the gleam of intrigue was lost from his gaze.

Djazz, couldn't help but bare a grin. It seemed as though he had been misunderstood. Why exactly would he draw a blade if he had no intentions of using it? And now, he stood in front of someone with the title of 'warlord' who now had his back turned to him. Where he was from, on Stronghold Island, swordplay was a language in itself, and the desires and ambitions of the wielder were translated through the sword. Two accomplished swordsmen could understand one another well enough the moment their blades met, and so, when he said 'chat', he didn't necessarily mean with spoken words; though admittedly he did tend to ramble a bit from time to time.

Perhaps he would need to 'break the ice' first. Raising his blade he would retract his hand before lunging forward, producing not a sound. However, the very forced and skill of the stabbing motion sent a shockwave flying through the air in a straight path. This was equally as silent, as minimal training as an assassin made this technique particularly deadly for opponents with their backs turned...

But this was nothing more than a warning shot. The shockwave would be aimed to whiz past his head by only a margin. While he was willing to do anything to kill; he wasn't here to kill Izuru, and thus, using the techniques of an assassin was unfitting, "On my island when you are given a sword, it is given a name. It's not just a name sake... it's a reminder that on the field of battle, you are inevitably alone. No matter how many men stand at your shoulders; they can't swing your damn sword for you. You're blade is your only ally." he said, always having to justify referring to his own blade as though it were a sentient being. Though usually his attempts to justify it were met with more confusion then understanding.

Clutching the blade he would 'blink from his position to one directly behind Izuru. In such a quick motion the blade was already cackling with electricity as he had wasted no time to build high levels of static within the blade through rapid vibration. The moment he had come to a stop, he swung his sword horizontally, "Allow me to introduce you," He said.

His heart was pounding. After so much hype there was no way he didn't expect to be facing something daunting. With adrenalin already pumping, he didn't exactly have the self control to pull his punches with this attack; though if he had manage to cut Izuru down now, there wasn't much point in tracking him down in the first.

Departing the scene the towering man was stopped in his tracks as the wind tore beside his head, a rending wave flashing past him and carving it’s path further forth as it flew into the distance. A smirk curved his lips as it appeared the man really was keener to talk with blades than words, which was all he could ask for. Turning he saw a shape blur toward him, coming into focus as a blade coated in leaping current and sparking volts crackled a cleaving path through the air as it sought to cleave him in twain.

”you got a weird way’a sayin’ it but you ain’t wrong, the only person you can rely on is yourself” his own blade drawn with a flash and swinging down through the air to meet that which came for him head on. The wild grin had spread in the moment of exchange, that movement, his sword play, that technique, this bastard was good. His movements were a little slow, but the raw materials were there, dismantling this one would be fun. The currents danced down the length of his blade crackling across the limb that held it in place, burning away his skin as the frozen core beneath was revealed, the insulating nature of his fruit kept the majority of the damage at bay but it did require he turn his body to ice, something that hadn’t been forced on him in a while.

But one thing bothered him, that first attack he’d barely heard it approach yet the opportunity was squandered with a stray shot, this guy didn’t seem incapable enough to miss a shot on an unsuspecting opponent from this distance, which meant he’d done it on purpose. ”That ain’t enough, I wanna see more, I’m gonna make you wish you’d killed me with that first blow” his expression was far more pleased than it had been before, the self satisfaction that came with combat improving his mood substantially. His blows rained down, swinging the blade down on his opponent over and over at about 2/3 of his usual speed, he didn’t really know who he was fighting, he didn’t much know why he was fighting but he was content with simply the act of fighting a suitably skilled opponent, and the fact that he’d given a warning suggested some sense of honor for a duel. There was nothing he liked more than crushing those conceited types, if you started a fight then you better intend to win it, the methods didn’t matter all that did was who won and who lost.

Ice? Had the 'wound' from the slash just turned to ice? And unharmed at that. Djazz wouldn't have realized it for certain if he hadn't attempted to cut through ice itself on other occasions and had a 'feel' for what it was like to sever ice in the first place. The moment's hesitation/confusion was all it took for Izuru to return the favor with a series of slashes. Much taller than him, Djazz found himself leaning back slightly to attempt to catch these slashes with his blade.

If you tried to explain to Djazz that he was only being attacked at 2/3rd his opponents normal speed, he would most likely be baffled. The truth was, he was already at top end in his attempt to defend himself from his opponents attacks, which to be honest, where normal and unrefine. He could hardly keep up with his opponents flurry of slashes and was forced to do little more than defend himself with his blade; keeping it tucked close to his person so that his movements would have to cover as little distance as possible to stave off his opponents sword. In between defending, he had little room for counter attack. In his mind, Izuru had already proven himself an accomplished swordsmen with this fact alone.

Djazz was well aware that 'speed' was the determining factor in most conflict. He who strikes first is often the one with the advantage. However, it had always been something of a weak point for Djazz himself. It wasn't necessarily that he was slow, rather, that he slowed himself down! His mind habitually and actively thought about every minute detail that entered through his senses. In some cases, it was good to have a keen eye for small details and a strong analytically sense. But for every fraction of a second spent thinking, there was a delay in action. Instead of relying on muscle memory and instinct; his mind and body both were working twice as hard and slowing him down in the process.

It was only a matter of time before he himself made a mistake and was punished for it. When their blades did clash, it seemed as though the blade was swung with appropriate force that he couldn't overwhelm him in terms of strength either; meaning that he would have to rely on skill to be the edge. Tensing the muscles in his forearm, the rapid convulsing from fast-twitch to slow-twitch muscles generated intense heat. If this warlord had some power based on Ice, surely a searing hot blade would prove its weakness.

The blade itself was red-hot in appearance before Djazz used the 'Blink' technique once more to get position. Being so outmatched in terms of speed it would have been near impossible for him to get a chance to attack without a technique affording him a boost. The Blink (Soru) was merely a few meters back to get out of range, before he jumped forward to slash at Izuru himself, this time with all his might. It would be a true test of strength to see just where he fell on the food chain; just how wide was the gap between their power?

His blade sung out as it clashed against the smaller swordsman’s time and time again, izuru relentless in his assault while the shorter man fended them swings off as best he could. It was true izuru’s style was unrefined, he had learnt techniques during his time on Kwon’s island but they were techniques he had been able to pick up purely through physical aptitude rather than laborious training which meant at the heart of it his sword style could still be considered fairly unpolished though that hardly made it any less threatening. His opponent on the other hand was on the other end of the spectrum, he had the skill and technique itself honed quite well but his physical abilities were where he was let down.

It didn’t matter much in situ though, consciously izuru hadn’t even concerned himself with the different in the strength and abilities, like a wild animal he saw only a target and while enjoying the tricks he threw on display had nothing in mind other than carving him to pieces, though around had started to sparsely spread and gather, none wanted to get all too close to the fight for fear of getting caught up in it but they didn’t much like the idea of missing it either which led to then being surrounded by a bunch of Kling-ons.

The Body beneath his blade blurred back into the distance as he performed that movement technique again, he’d seen sinne use it as well he understood the basic premised but was still as of yet unable to replicate it, though it had managed to pull the kid from the range of his blade granting a momentary reprieve, the techniques prowess was evident. Though it was possible putting distance between them was not the most prudent decision, as he watched the kids blade switch from crackling electricity to searing flames his enthusiasm burned brighter, those were some damn interesting tricks he’d never seen someone do things like that with a blade, well that was a lie he’d seen one element produced but to be proficient in two that was a new sight altogether, the crowd were not displeased either impressed he’d kept up with their leader along with the skills he showed while doing it.

”You gotta be faster if you want to strike me with that brat” Taking advantage of the space between them to unleash a volley of slashes as they carved the air sending crescent shaped projections of force sailing toward the man before following up the bombardment with a volley of thrusts the as of yet unseen ability of his sword to extend now put on full display as he let the weapon cross the space between them for him.

Using a technique which required and forced rapid movement was difficult on the legs to say the least. It wasn't something he could rely on as a method of dodging or engaging as he had to eventually come to a stop one way or anther, and by then he had figured his opponent would already be baring down on him. There was only one other way he could conceive of bridging at least a section of the gap between himself as Izuru, and that would be to depend on the aforementioned haki which he had only recently developed.

While it was something he had put into practice, he had never put it to use in a combative setting yet; especially against such a high level opponent. Djazz himself couldn't have recalled being so outmatched, even during the war with the navy. Of course, he made a point to avoid those individuals whose rank afforded them the reputation of being 'over powered', leaving those to his elders. It was as though fighting a wild animals; a frustrating affair in which even with all the tool and knowledge necessary to defeat an opponent, he was simply as a loss to use them.

Izuru was fast to take advantage of the space they created. His blade was searing hot, and he had already launched into an attack. His only choice was to disengage and fend off the serial shockwaves by parrying them one way or another. By using the edge of his own blade he didn't have to meet the full force of each shockwave but instead, could simply guide it a different direction. Impressively, the shockwave continued at different angles behind him; slicing up the pavement and concrete that made up the street. However, the number of shockwaves was itself enough to cool his blade, leaving it once again normal.

The attacks didn't stop there, but followed with a number of thrusts. Djazz would have been more caught of guard by the extending of the sword if it wasn't so suspicious in the first place. Why after all, would Izuru be stabbing at the air if he didn't have the range to hit him? This question almost immediately answered, as the sword extended, "Damn, Joyeuse... would ya look at that? A trick you can't do." He said.

He didn't have to be reminded that he needed more speed in order to realize that it was his major short coming. With no choice but to test his own limits he focused deeply on... not focusing. That's right, by silencing his mind as much as possible, he could tap into the feeling only instinct could provide. By limiting the amount of hesitation created by the 'friction of thought', he was successfully able to improve his speed allowing him to at least keep up with the repeated thrusts of the extended sword. Of course, even then he could only muster the effort to defend, as his effort to advance had been effectively halted.

What was it about the blade that afforded it the ability to extend? It was moving too fast for him to examine closely enough to discover the mechanism, but he had a hunch that he had no choice but to continue with. As he struggled to keep pace with the stabbing motions of the extending blade, he stilled his hand about his blade and from the stillness, it would quickly cool as convection forced the heat out of the blade like a sponge squeezed of water. As this took place, his blade would frost over as he continued to block the Gatling of thrusts.

His defense wasn't perfect... now and again a parry would come up short and he would be cut of pierced along his limbs and extremity as he made his core and head a priority to defend. The pain was nothing like he hadn't experienced before, but each bit of damage he took was a growing disadvantage. However, every time his opponents blade connected with his own blade, the metal it was forged from would become slightly colder. The colder it was, the slower the speed from which the thrusts could be delivered, as the air compression system from which the extension was based would become colder itself. Simply by blocking, the the blade's extension would become slower, and he could defend himself better...

The problem was... all he could do was defend. Not that Djazz himself was mentally defeated, he simply acknowledged the lack of opening from which he could go on the offensive. He had no choice but to stand his ground the best he could.

(Sorry for the slow, last exam today so buried under revision)

The frostbite captain’s shockwaves tore through the air but they did not do so unimpeded, his opponent put on the back foot by his physical shortcoming but unwilling to relent regardless caved at the projectiles as they flew towards him, burning blade in hand shimmering as it cleaved the them to pieces before able to reach him. The flames seared and crackled through the air, an almost elegant dance as he used the unknown sword art to parry the barrage and come out the other side for the most part unscathed. Izuru’s grin was unfaltering, he was good that kid, better than expected but if he thought he’d get off that easy then he was falling to a dream he wouldn’t awake from.

The piercing point of leviathan shot through the air, showering a volley of thrusts as it yielded to it’s masters bidding, his foe fearless seemed to change his strategy, the blade in his hands no longer reverberating as it had before, now clung too by a phantasmal stillness, such that it appeared unnatural and ill placed in this world. Frost now clung to the gleaming edge in place of the flames that had once danced there, lightning, fire and now ice? This kid he had command over at least 3 elements? There was nothing like that he knew of even among devil fruit users, just what was it that granted such prowess? His curiosity peeked his predatorial glare didn’t leave his opponent once, not even for an instant, while the swordsman fended off the stabbing shower as best his abilities allowed him.

It wasn’t just the sword play either there was something about his movements that bothered the ice man, they were no so much faster as more efficient, he was able to evade things that would have seemed beyond him when first this fight began and yet it didn’t appear as though anything had actually changed with him. Izuru’s eye’s widened with a wave of realization from where he recognized such evasive aptitude, it wasn’t that he had gotten faster, it was foresight, he was predicting the attacks before they came to him!

These weren’t the skills of an ordinary traveler, it started just as an excuse to fight, in fact he’d intended to kill the kid for telegraphing his intent to attack, acting as though he was in a position to give a helping hand but that just didn’t appeal to him any more. He didn’t want this man dead, he wanted his talents, that kind of swordplay it was a rare treasure even out here in the grand line.

The improvement had been enough to avoid being felled by lancing storm but it was not enough to overcome it entirely, the boy trapped amid the hail of attacks unable to move forward ”You won’t get nowhere if you let yourself get caught in the enemies pace!” the offered advice coming as izuru tore across the short distance between them his blade continuing the barrage as he did so though shortening in time with his advance, upon arriving before the boy drawing the sword back his own now shimmering in the glimmering sunlight before cleaving down upon his foe.

For as long as Djazz had been searching for Izuru, he always had a sneaking suspicion of what it would be like to eventually face him one on one. He had felt pain before. He had been cut, beaten and defeated on more than on occasion. Some could say that it was these number of small failures that eventually contributed to ones over all success; that it was pain itself which was the best teacher. That sneaking suspicion he had? It was a painful one. And so far, he hadn't been disappointed. There was a certain level of frustration that one experienced whenever they truly realized their position on the food chain; it was beyond fear. Fear was an emotion that was experienced when one still had hope. When hope was lost, there was little more than a cold, dry, and frustrating acceptance.

And what was most frustrating, was that Djazz also realized he had only seen the tip of the iceberg. That his opponent might not have even broken a sweat, and that the true extent of his power had yet to be tapped. Is this want it meant to be a warlord? The extent of this power was incredible; and to be honest, overwhelming. Perhaps he would feel fear; perhaps he would still have clung to some idea of hope, if only he didn't have such experience. The naive hearted always misunderstood the reality of their situation. And to think that in spite of all he had learned, and how far he had come, there existed giants that could still tower over him.

To hold his ground, now, was more or less just a formality of survival. The instinct resorted to 'fight' or 'flight' of course, and having already chosen his position on the matter, it seemed pointless to change position. There was only one thing that he depended on; one thing that made this near suicidal challenge worth making.

It was a risk, a risk based on chance.

Please don't be confused. To say that there was a chance, does not mean that their was hope. Probability itself is based in mathematical logic. What he would need here to have hope of defeating Izuru would fall more under the ordinance of miracle, than real probable chance. What he had placed his bet on was the faith of the sword; that his intention was translated through his blade, not his words. To put it simply; that his actions could speak louder than words.

Izuru rushed him in a fashion that, even with heightened senses and perception of things, he could not react. With the brain jumping electrical signals from one point to the next in mere microseconds, his mind would have already generated a clear picture of what was to come. He didn't need observational haki to see the Izuru's blade, and the true and clear intention of the slash that came down upon him. Once again, defending himself was merely conventional. The consequence would not be avoided.

Joyeuse, his blade blade, was brought down upon with incredible force. Though the blade was sturdy, some would say, unbreakable, its wielder was not. Djazz still had some growing up to do; some rather large boots to fill before he could push his sword to it's limits.

The sword clashed and sang out as the vibrations rattled through any tangible physical form. In an instant, his black pupils whited out, his teeth clenched and his body convulsed as the water rich tissues of his body were reverberated like the flesh of a drum. It felt as though his flesh was being dragged along his bone as this full body experience was unlike anything he had ever endured before.

Even still, he refused to cry out. His teeth clenched, his other hand came up and grabbed his own throat. He would not verbalize his pain. It would only be internalized... He refused to black out; and even as the pain and shock ripped through his body and the damage was done to both flesh and bone alike, his felt his body stripped of its palpable form; peeled from the sensation of once being strong.

That blow was the last. His hand dropped from his throat as he no longer felt the sensation to howl in pain. But his will was like all things; finite. Djazz dropped; first to his knees, then fell flat, prone on the ground. Clinging simply to the idea of consciousness... a limbo between awareness, and a dream.

His blade, Joyeuse, lay at his side.

Holding him down with the torrential tirade of thrusts izuru crossed the distance between them, towering figure arriving before the man as his blade was drawn back and came cleaving down upon him, the shimmering reverberating surface making a resounding clang as it crashed down in contact the swordsman’s own weapon raised in defence. For a moment there was a lull as it appeared the ice man’s strike had been stopped, an air of unsurity permeating through the surrounding crowed, but it’s power was more devious than that it would not be stopped so simply. He watched with cold apathetic eyes as tweaks and convulsions over came the muscles, to anyone around it was entirely inexplicable what was happening but for the two combatants it was all too evident, one suffering through it first hand and the other having endured it countless times in training.

Despite himself Izuru’s expression slipped unconsciously from that of a wicked grin to an amused smirk as he watched the man before him fight against the obvious agony, it was not a pleasant hell to endure but the fact he wouldn’t let him cry out in front of his enemy, that was a trait to be admired. The toll it took on him to suppress his himself was evident and as the waves of internal violence dissipated from his body the figure was left to fall to the ground. He’d done well, honestly better than was ever expected of him, the fact he wasn’t dead being unquestionable evidence of that. Why he’d tried to kill someone he’d already decided on recruiting was probably the foremost question on this entire scenario but the answer for that was obvious, if he had died then that was as far as he was capable of going anyway, he had enough fodder back on the ship already adding to their ranks wasn’t the purpose of this.

As it became apparent the fight was over the previously frozen crowd broke out into cheers and applause, though the victor was evident there were still a large portion of them yelling accolades for the downed man in having lasted so long, apparently already having won the heart of the people. With a nod of his head izuru had yogi walking his stumpy legs beside the boy and scooping him up in his lanky arms, blade held within the beast’s hand while the body was slung over his shoulder, he’d wake up soon enough and the explanation for his situation was probably one that might prove problematic but that was easily a situation they could resolve themselves later. Sheathing his weapon once more and heading for the docks again izuru realised he actually knew nothing about why any of that had just started, why was the kid looking for him in the first place? Was it simply to test himself as others had done in the past? Eh who knew and it wasn’t like it mattered much, all that counted was their paths had crossed and izuru had found a new member for his crew, beyond that there was only the urge to depart.

Having endured the surge of agony that was the previous attack, Djazz could retire to a thoughtful numbness. Somewhere between the release of pain killing endorphines and general damage to his body being too high to register in is mind a 'pain' any longer, there was a sort of peaceful quiet. The initial frustration of being defeated faded rather quickly. After all, he couldn't do anything. His mission was singular in form, and he had to carry it out to the best of his ability; even if that meant he would have to die trying his best ability came up short. He always imagined that if he were to die, he would most likely not care. If there was an afterlife, it was most likely better than life itself, and if there was no afterlife, and his soul was simply lost among the cosmos, then how could he care? He would lack the ability to care the moment he lost his existance.

He had a feeling that if Izuru was going to kill him, he would have been dead already. The last thing his eyes were capable of seeing where the crowd of people as he laid with his head facing them. As his vision blurred and slowly faded to black (in spite of the fact that he was sure his eyes were open...) he could hear their cheers and applause. What was this, the Izuru show? It left a bad taste in his mouth, until he realized the cheers were for both of their performance. To think, he lived in a world where violence was all it took to entertain a group of people. A bunch of animals they were... and this Izuru was no better, albeit, superior in terms of physicality. Surely one didn't become strong simply by being hard headed and brute willed.

Speaking of animals, the question to the looming answer of his mortality was answered. He had been picked up by the massive bear thing that Izuru kept as a pet. Though all of his other senses had all but shut down, his sense of smell could still pick up enough clues to realize that he was in the clutches of the beast. (To be fair, it could have also meant that he was going to be eaten by the bear but... wishful thinking). So it would seem as though Izuru was impressed; at least enough to kidnap him after the battle. Or maybe he just had enough manner to kill him out of the public eye and bury him somewhere fitting.

The last strings of consciousness popped like threads stretched too thin, and finally he slipped into a deep sleep. Somehow, a smile was grafted across his lips. After all this thinking, plotting, scheming and dreaming... he would simply have to wait to wake in order to know the truth of what fate prescribed him. Perhaps the life of the beast wasn't so detestable after all..
