What the hell? First the female wanted to his blood as soon as he was done dispatching the bug and now she was saying that he would have to wait a while? Seriously, make up your mind, woman. Granted that her reasoning behind the decision was sound enough, but still, if she knew that she did not have the necessary equipment in the first place, why make that demand? Oh well, not that it mattered too much in the end. Furthermore, it seemed that the woman was quite ready to get out of here and seeing how Sergei doubted that another bug would come out to investigate, after all, loud noises like that tended to drive the animals away, there was no reason to stick around. Plus, according to Mary, there was a possibility of having the rain start sooner than usual. The Marine was not entirely sure what sort of rain it was that coloured the entire island white, but for now he was not exactly eager to find out first hand. After all, he liked the colour of his clothing and was not too eager to have them turned white. Motioning for the female to take the lead back to town, the inventor followed closely behind, alternatively switching between looking at the clouds above in case it began to rain and he would need to find shelter lest he turn white and keeping his eye on the road ahead, the constant white colour making it a bit hard to distinguish when it ran flat and when it dipped. Hell, it would not be hard at all to step into a hidden hole and break his leg, something that marksman was not too keen on doing. "Well, as a thank you for your cooperation, you are more than welcome to stay on the ship. I think there might be some equipment lying around that might help with your research." Sergei wrote, giving the paper to Mary. He was not entirely sure if the captain of the ship would agree to take on another passenger but the Marine still had some funds left over, funds enough to possibly secure a passage for the female. It wasn't that the inventor was feeling particularly nice or anything, but Mary's research was interesting enough to help her get off the island. Plus, it would be nice to have someone to talk to other than some sailors who knew nothing about inventions. |

Mary could not help but shrug at the look the Marine sent her way when she mentioned not having anything to work with. She knew she was getting ahead of herself after the fact, there was no real point in worrying about it, it was a simple mistake. That didn't mean she didn't want to get the blood later, just that now was not the best time, which was really saying something. "Sorry about that, I was really getting ahead of myself. It happens when I see something interesting and that had to be the most interesting thing I've seen in a while." Mary really didn't need much of a push to get her to lead the man back to the town, she didn't like the island and she hated its outdoors the most. So bleak and boring, nothing to see, nothing to do, and those hovering white clouds always there, they made it all so bleak and boring! Yeah, the young cyborg was beyond sick to death of this island. The way she saw it there was no reason to visit and no reason to stay for more than a few hours if that, probably better just to skip it all together. There was no way she would be a good representative for Gesso Island's tourism industry. "Good, I would have hated for this to be a waste of my time. This island can go sink or something for all I care, we'd be better off without it anyway." Considering that news Mary changed their course of travel slightly. Instead of taking Sergei back to the docks she instead lead the Marine back to the place she had been staying. There the cyborg picked up a few necessities, mostly bits and pieces of some unfinished projects, most of them obvious failures. It was mostly just things a lady needed to travel but there were a few weird things like both full and empty blood packs, interesting things to think on at any rate. Once she had everything with her Mary turned to the Marine, nodded once, then lead him to the docks. Really the sooner they were on the ship the better, even if it was not fully loaded it would be nice to just see the dull colours of the wood while she waited. |

Sergei could not blame Mary for heading ahead of herself. After all, there have been plenty of times where he had himself got so taken up in his own tinkering that he had forgotten certain things, like eating or sometimes he made assumptions that people knew as much as he did whenever he tried to explain something. In any case, the Marine knew what she was going through, for the most part. After all, he was not entirely sure how he would behave if he was stuck on a colourless island for as long as she had. He would probably go crazy from lack of stimulation. At the very least, she seemed amiable to his suggesting to take the party back to the ship. The inventor was curious when the female did not lead him directly back to the ship but instead taken a detour to pack up some of her own stuff, which included several interesting items, such as some projects, the purpose of which he could only guess at. Another curious item were several used and unused packs of some red coloured liquid, the purpose of which he again had no idea about. Finally everything was packed up and the duo made their way to the docks. Nearing the ship, the marksman saw that the captain was on deck, overseeing the loading of the ship. It was now or never. Motioning for Mary to remain on the dock, the doctor quickly made his way towards the man. Nearing the captain, Sergei took out the letter from his uncle as well as a pouch of coins before pointing towards the female and writing down on his notepad what he wanted. After a few moments of haggling over the price, the captain agreed to let Mary on board, telling the Marine that they would have to share their quarters. With that done, the inventor motioned for Mary to come onto the ship and follow him below deck to his cabin. The marksman did not bother mentioning to her that he was not the actual captain, allowing the female to come to her own conclusions. It was not his fault that she misconstrued his words. But she would most likely demand an explanation and he would need to provide one. But he would cross that bridge when he got to it. |

Even getting in sight of the not-so-colourful Marine Ship was enough for Mary to relax a little. Sure the sails were white, but it was a different white to the bleached out colour of the island and the Marine markings on the sails made it so much easier to deal with. Then there was the ship itself. From experience she knew the inside would be mostly wooden shades but from out here the sight of the greens and blues of the outside was the most calming thing she had seen in a very long time. It was also duller than anything she had seen on the inside of the buildings and houses so it was like a double blessing. The cyborg lady sighed in relief just looking at the thing while Sergei went ahead for whatever reason. It was starting to become clear that the mute Marine was not as important as she had first guessed, probably some sort of passenger travelling under special circumstances judging by the way he interacted with a man on board. It looked like money and notes changing hands, though the money was probably the only important part all things considered. The notes were probably something he was using to communicate. Mary was almost curious to know what was going on up there but despite how she had been acting so far, she did respect Sergei enough not to pry into things. As soon as the Marine motioned for her to join him on the ship Mary broke out into a childlike grin, she had been half dreading this all going south as soon as they had made it back to the docks but to see her greatest fear was proven wrong... Well it was just too much for young woman. With something that could be described more as a skip than a walk the cyborg came aboard and followed the mute around until he told her something otherwise. Until she had a place to dump her stuff or even orders to help around the ship (she really hoped that was not going to happen) the only thing the cyborg lady could think of doing was following the Marine around. |

Sergei descended into the bowels of the merchant ship with Mary following closely behind. After some twists and turns, the duo finally arrived at the Marine's cabin. Not wasting any more time than necessary, the inventor opened the door and motioned for the female to get inside before entering himself and closing the door. His cabin was not that impressive by any means, probably about average for what a cabin on a ship this size would be. At the very least, he had it all to himself which left plenty of space for a table that was filled with various odds and ends from a few things he was tinkering with when he was bored and needed something to take his mind off from the mission that he was currently pretty much failing. Hell, the order was rather simple. Get to Sabaody and infiltrate a pirate crew. Simple. And here he was, sitting around on a ship moored on the very first island of a route. Nowhere close to where he was supposed to be. The doctor had thought that he had caught a break on Machine Island, which was very close to his destination and yet he fucked up. Took a wrong turn as he was escaping the island and ended up on some god forsaken island close to the beginning of a route and after that, even though he hoped that the man he was traveling with would take him to Sabaody, he had somehow ended up on this second god forsaken island with absolutely no colour at all. At the very least, it looked like they were going to be leaving soon, if what the captain told him was anything to go by, so there was that. "Make yourself at home." the marksman wrote down, even though he was not entirely sure where they would sleep considering that there was only one bed. Maybe he should request another bed to be brought in. But he'll deal with that when it came time to go to sleep. For now he was curious to see if Mary would have enough items to conduct her experiments. |

If getting on board the ship was the best thing she had done in weeks then it would soon be taking a close second place to getting to go below decks. Mary was overjoyed by the concept of not having to see that white island ever again and her skipping intensified as she followed Sergei through the ship, not paying enough attention to really know which way was which and eventually becoming hopelessly lost. When they made it to the room she realised she was going to have to rectify that problem but for now the cyborg was happy enough to dump her things in a corner and stretched out her limbs happily. The make yourself at home note made her laugh and smile, which was considerably kinder than any of the emotions she had been showing on the island. It was like just getting her off that god forsaken island had freed her of a depressive gloom that was tinging all her words and actions. Which was pretty much an accurate representation of it. With all her stuff at her feet it was hardly an 'at home' situation but at least it was something different after all these weeks of monotony. "You have no idea how thankful I am for this." she eventually told the marine after she had settled up against the wall next to her stuff. Mary was not exactly doing anything with it other than sitting there but she had glanced at some of the stuff Sergei had laying out (and the single resting place really did cement itself in her mind for asking about later) so she was a little too distracted by it to care about her own things right now. "Do you have any idea which island we are going to be heading to next? I really don't care but it's always a good idea to be organise for what you're going into so..." While she waited for some sort of explanation to be scribbled down for her Mary started searching through her things until she came across a blood pack. She had not refuelled for a bit so now was as good a time as any. There was not much to it beyond using her fangs to pierce the top of the pack so it would flow out then gulping it down as fast as she could so she did not have to taste any of it. Why the only available power source at the time had to run on blood was anyone's guess but Mary figured it was someone's cruel joke, or something like that. It would be nice to get rid of it but with everything she had in her now there was no going back, not without some major surgery and there was no way she was going to trust anyone to put her back together again. |

"Sorry, I have no idea where we're going next but eventually I'm hoping to make my way to Sabaody." Sergei replied, writing down in his notebook. Before he could say anything else, the Marine was interrupted by a sailor opening and stepping through the door and into the room. "Sorry for the intrusion, but there's someone on deck that's asking for you." the sailor said to the marksman before turning around and leaving the room. The doctor wondered if the sailor actually meant to address Mary but the fact that he was looking at him made that assumption somewhat questionable. But who would know that he was here? He had only been on the island for a couple of hours and have not talked to anyone but the female in his room and it couldn't be anyone here. That left someone from the outside. But seeing as how he hadn't told anyone that he was coming to this island, only finding out himself once he was already on the sip, it was somewhat suspicious. But in any case, there was nothing to be gained by standing here. "I'll be right back." Sergei wrote before leaving the room and making his way to the deck. Once there, he saw another Marine standing there, who saluted as he came onto the deck. "Sir, my name is Eli and your uncle sent me along with a ship and a small crew to help you get to your destination. You can ask him for further orders once we're out at sea, Sir." the man said, once again saluting before pointing further down the docks where a ship with no Marine markings was parked. "Sir, we shall depart whenever you're ready." the Marine said before turning around and going back to the dock. A ship, huh? That was awfully convenient. If the marksman had to guess, his uncle must have gotten pretty tired of waiting for the mission to be completed. No matter, now that he had the ship, the mission would proceed as planned. Turning around, the doctor made his way back to his room. "Well, it appears that I now have my own ship that is waiting for me a little further down the dock. This room is paid for and everything and the captain shouldn't bother you if you want to remain on this ship. I can also offer you passage on my ship, though I still don't know where it's going. So the choice is yours." the Marine said before starting to pack up his stuff. |

Mary just sighed and stretched out after reading the last message, half considering curling up in the corner for a bit of a catnap before they went off anywhere. It was not that she didn't like the fact she was finally getting away from this island, it was just that knowing was half the battle and it would have been nice to get away already. Still she was well on her way after all this time so why she had to keep dwelling on it was beyond her. Thankfully there was something to interrupt such thoughts as some random Marine turned up and called Sergei away. That sort of put Mary back in the same situation she had been in only moments ago, except that this time she focused on doing something else just to pass the time. With her shrewd inventor's eye she decided it was time to do a bit of an investigation on the things Sergei had laying around. There was enough bits and pieces laying around to keep her distracted for a few hours, or even days if she really wanted to get a better idea of what she was looking at, so it seemed like a worthy distraction. The annoying thing was it would not be polite to mess around with someone's work like that so Mary had to go for a look but don't touch approach. She carefully looked over and ran a few random ideas through her mind while considering what each part could do but really came up with several blanks until, while being quite irritated with herself, Sergei returned. "You seem to be planning on leaving right now so I think I'll tag along for now." she replied to his new note, immediately going to pack her own things yet again and shouldering her luggage. "I'll stick with you until the next island at least, I'm not even sure what I'll do there but anything is better than the alternative." As soon as Sergei was done with his own packing Mary would follow the mute Marine to the new ship, not even sure why she chose this path over the other. She was happy to follow any instruction he sent her way that would help with speeding them away from the island but she would never let him hold the illusion that he was her superior. Mary was happy to travel and happy to help, but she was not part of the Marines and did not plan on changing that any time soon, something Sergei would have to remember. |

Sergei simply nodded in response to Mary's reply. He would be lying if he said that he wasn't pleased that she would be coming with him as well. It was always nice to have one familiar face around even if said face only became familiar to him in the past couple of hours. At the very least, the female was not a Marine and could provide something that the other Marines could not offer. The marksman was not entire sure just yet but it would be a shame if he had found a need for her and she was not there. In any case, it did not take too long to pack up everything in the room that belonged to him, seeing as how the only things that were really his was whatever scraps remained on the table and then it was as simple as scooping everything into the box. Waiting for Mary to finish packing up, the doctor exited the cabin before making his way back through the hallways and back out onto the deck. The captain of the ship was still there and just a mere glance passed between him and the Marine before the latter went down to the dock. As much as he wanted to take back the money, it was in bad taste. Once on the dock, it was a rather short walk over to the Marine ship, or what would serve as a Marine ship given the lack of any identifiable markings that would mark said ship as being a Marine vessel. That was both a good and a bad thing depending on the situation but he could not very well complain about getting a ship to use when before he had to be complacent with waiting on other ships and hoping that said ships were going anywhere close to where he needed to go. But not anymore. And if he had to carry out some extra orders to get this sort of advantage, then so be it. Going up on the deck, Sergei returned the salute that the sailors on board gave him before he made his way to the captain's quarters. "Sir, there's a lab a bit ways down the hall as well as the crew quarters where your companion can set down her stuff." Eli said looking between the marksman and Mary, having received any orders about the female. Not that it mattered much in the end. "The ship will cast off in a few minutes so please make yourself at home." the sailor saluted before exiting the captain's quarters. "I guess you can bunk with the rest of the crew." the doctor wrote after setting down his box on a table. He thought that he should give up the captain's bed to Mary but then again he was doing her enough of a favor by taking her off the island so there was that. In any case, he really should put the box in the lab but that would have to wait until after the launch. Looking around awkwardly, not entirely sure what more to say to the female, Sergei exited the cabin and walked back up to the deck to watch the ship cast off from the dock. It was time to say goodbye to this god forsaken island. |

Until she was told t do something else Mary would be following Sergei around so of course she followed him into the captain's quarters. The Cyborg girl glanced around the room curiously, half wishing it was for her but registering immediately how unlikely that would be. At least she got to hear some other interesting information. That lab would have to be investigated at some later stage, maybe there was the stuff she needed to investigate Sergei's blood there? It didn't have to happen right this second but it was something to consider later. For now she just took it all in and half paid attention to the working of the other Marines on the ship while Sergei did whatever it was he was doing. Eventually he did get around to writing a message and everything sort of fell into place. Mary stepped out before Sergei and went off to start exploring the ship. She really had no idea where the crew area was so she figured it was probably going to turn out to be pretty obvious, what with it being a pretty important place to have and all. As soon as she found it the inventor would stash her things in what she hoped would be an unused section, stowing them securely away so that they would not roll around the ship or anything like that if the sea got rough. For a split second she considered having another blood pack to refuel but it wasn't a very smart move just now. Not only might someone start asking questions but she had refuelled already today, it should have meant she was good for a day or two for now. Without much else to do Mary would get back to exploring the ship. There was much to see and a fair few people to meet, which the cyborg would avoid doing for now, but nothing much more than that. She stuck below decks again, avoiding another glance at the island that had effectively been her prison for so long. If only Sergei and his marines would get on with it though, Mary would get quite irritated if she found herself looking at everything there was to see over and over again before they left but that was her own self inflicted decision really. Still, anything was better than nothing. |

After being on the island for only a few hours, Sergei had grown to hate it very much and was really glad to now leave it. After all, now he was actually going to go complete his mission. "Set the course for Sabaody." the Marine wrote down the order and showed it to what appeared to be his first mate for now. "Not yet, sir." the sailor replied with a shake of his head and handing him a den den mushi with a video screen. The inventor did not really grasp his situation until the video screen flickered to life and there he was, Commodore Volk, staring with a rather unhappy look on his face. "I'm disappointed, Sergei, and I do not like being disappointed. I knew that you were somewhat lazy but I expected that you would have enough respect for me and your orders to complete them. Now, you are to meet up with several others so that they can keep their eye on you and make sure don't dawdle anymore. Commodore Volk, out." came the 'voice' from the den den mushi, the screen putting up the words so that the marksman could understand it. Sergei was not entirely surprised by his uncle's mood, after all, he has been dawdling around, even if it was not entirely his fault. What was surprising that he was assigned to some Marine division so that he would be kept under strict watch. The Marine did not particularly like that part of the message but it wasn't like he could argue against it without appearing insubordinate. And while he could simply abandon the mission, there was nowhere for him to go and he doubted that his uncle or father would very much appreciate his desertion and chances were that he would be caught, tried, and hanged for his crimes. The doctor involuntarily rubbed his neck at the thought. No, he would remain in the Marines for now and for the foreseeable future. Deep in thought about his current predicament, the marksman motioned for the first mate to set course for their destination, destination that he had no idea of. Which really was par for course for the last couple of trips. |
