What'dya know! The girl was more resiliant than he had thought. Drea's worry melted away as the girl hopped to, quickly recovering and silently, if not proudly persisting. If something was the matter than of course she would say so right? Drea thought that he should check on her but... what was there to check on? Besides the penguin exterior, there was hardly anything to note; and he was no doctor, even if he did make sure she was okay, it wasn't like his opinion was at all informed. Ridding himself of this riddle, he would just assume that if something was the matter, he could trust her judgement. Wait for the irony. As she continued, Drea stayed close behind, but not too close that he couldnt' keep the girl and the sensery within his gaze. As they proceeded, the enviornement became more and more The corpses, however, did all have arrows sticking through them, and some of them were skeletons, meaning that they were quite old. If anything, they were on the right trail to finding and teaching a lesson to whatever had shot that lady back there! When Shina mentioned that they should leave, Drea was already too deep in nostalgia, "What'd ya mean?! We're on the right path!" He said, stepping out infront of her and into the clearing." He said. "Ohh wait! Are you feeling ill? You did take a good shock back there... if you're not feeling well tell me! We should go to a doctor or something." He said, completely either fearless of oblivious to the fact that the scene was ripped right out of some horror script. Drea turned toward the clearing and announced, "Hey asshole! We're pissed about you shooting people with arrows! Stop being a prick and come take your lumps like a man!" he yelled. Edited by TGIFlash, Jan 16 2014, 01:08 PM.

Shina was just about shitting herself at this point. She may have gotten in a bit over her head. Drea, however, seemed unfettered by the horrifying situation. gathering up, what Shina assumed had to be, balls of steel, Drea hollered a threat to the menacing figured hiding in the shadows. The archer's reply was incredibly quick. An arrow immediately was fired and aimed directly at Drea's chest. "Drea look out!" Cried Shina as she moved towards him. Unfortunately she wasn't exactly the fastest fighter in the world. Drea would be on his own to fend off this attack. "So this is your answer. Every body hanging in these trees deserved death. They trespassed into my home. They were criminals, bandits and pirates, anyhow. This mountain pass belongs to me, The Tengu." Boomed the shadowed creature. His voice hissed as he moved too quickly for Shina to follow between trees, sending arrows at her and Drea at regular intervals. Abandoning her thought of trying to save Drea, Shina dove for cover herself. She could only hope Drea survived the first shot. "Drea, are you okay!?" Called out the girl without looking around the side of the tree. She could hear thick resounding thuds as arrows landed in the opposite side of the wooden barrier. Shina's voice was panicked and sounded like it was near tears. She wasn't the greatest fighter in hand to hand combat, how the hell could she be expected to deal with a ranged opponent? Her body was convulsing with sobs and her face was plastered with a confused fear. Her only hope was that Drea was not so shaken by the encounter as she was. |

The answer was almost immediate. An arrow from out of seemingly no where, and its target? Drea himself. The arrow was fast, and Drea, was not expecting it as he was the other time when his target was in his sights. The arrow would hit him smack in his chest, just as it did all the others whose body now hung in the trees. The archer was impressive in that his accuracy was dead on, and the force of the arrow was strong enough to push Drea from his feet, and to the ground, motionless for a time. The 'thud' of getting his by an arrow was a sharp force turning blunt; that much kinetic energy focused into such a small space was enough to repel a boy of his size. But the boy was indeed made of metal, and while the arrow was powerful, fast, and accurate, it wasn't enough to penetrate his own exoskeletal armor. To anyone that was watching, however, it would seem as though Drea was numbered by the arrow. First that was audible was the dark voice of the person who called themselves the "Tengu". The second was Shina shouting to see if he was okay. A few moments of ominous silence passed before Drea gathered himself from the ground. Picking himself up and brushing himself off, "Cut the crap. If your killing people you're a murderer too! We don't give a fuck about your home, we just want to get to the otherside and find a blacksmith. Doesn't mean you have to kill us! Whadda' dick! Come out where I can see you!" he said, reaching around his back and grabbing the metallic quarter staff which was resting there, taking a fighting stance. He didn't know any formal fighting techniques, but had at least learned the basics he needed to defend himself. That being said, it was hard for him to fight something he couldn't see, and he already realized that his would be opponent had a better lay of the land; chasing him wouldn't be worth while either. As for Shina, he was already quite head strong and fearless as it was. He couldn't see Shina but, the last time shots were fired, she was quick to hide. He only hoped that she didn't do anything too dangerous; but then again, she would have quite the element of surprised as long as she stayed out of sight and he kept this guy distracted... One thing at a time. |

Out of the corner of her eyes, Shina watched in horror as Drea was knocked off his feet by a flashing shadow. He had been hit by the arrow. An intense feeling of regret overcame the woman. It was her fault. She had wanted revenge against the marauding archer, she had wanted to take the mountain pass despite knowing shady individuals lived there, and she was the one who made the decision to keep walking once they reached the electric fence. Shina hung her head. Her eyes regained their focus and her body stopped its convulsions. The shaking stopped and her mind cleared the thick fog that had been clogging it before. She would avenge Drea. She may not have known him long, but she had still managed to become friends with him in this short time... Wait what? Why was Drea standing up again after taking an arrow to the chest?! Shina's jaw dropped. It all fit into place. He really was a man made of metal. It wasn't a lie. Nothing on this damn island made sense. Nothing! Men made of metal, random spec ops archers hiding out in the mountains, and dead bandits hanging from trees as if they were simply ripened fruit ready to be picked. Everything just, kind of, exploded inside Shina's mind. She snapped. "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON!" Screamed the girl as she slammed her hands hard against the dirt beneath her. Her hair, hanging down over the front of her face, hid her features for a moment as the girl stood up again. "Tengu, Pirate, or Demon; I don't give a fuck what you are or what you call yourself!" Cried out the girl as she stepped out from behind the tree. Her finger was pointed directly at the arrow shooting maniac. Her voice trembled slightly but it soon came upon a new-found strength from her diaphragm. "Hell, I wouldn't even care if you were the fucking king of Alabasta," Shina paused as she took in a deep breath. "We're gonna kick your ass!" Of course as soon as she said this, an arrow was fired in response. Shina, however, was already behind the tree again. "Just try it, bitch. You brought this upon yourselves." Replied the voice as the man continued to fire a seemingly inexhaustible number of projectiles. It honestly perplexed Shina. How many arrows could an average quiver carry anyhow? She wasn't quite certain, but she knew the number couldn't be infinite. Shina took in the lay of the land around her and began moving from tree to tree and cover point to cover point. Her little speech had seemed to draw all the aggro onto her. Afterall, there were two targets to shoot at and one seemed to be impervious to his arrows. Why would the man bother wasting anymore on Drea? But then again, what would stop Drea from reaching and beating the shit out of him? Shina's mind had already began understanding just what was going on. This archer was well prepared to fight off invaders in his forest. He clearly had to have some other traps set up to keep Drea and his metal imperviousness from reaching him. "Drea, keep your eyes open for traps." Called out Shina as she pulled a nifty theify combat roll behind a large rock. An arrow skipped off the top of the granite just as she moved, causing it's trajectory to change and implant itself into Shina's right leg. The pain flared up immediately, but Shina bit her lips hard to prevent the archer from knowing she was injured. She didn't want to worry Drea either. Grasping the protruding arrow firmly, Shina snapped off the longer half, leaving the head in her leg. She figured that leaving it in would be the better option than trying to remove it. She had no idea how to bandage an arrow wound. Her eyes teared as she began crawling using her elbows only to propel herself forward. Her penguin suit was covered in mud, grime, tree pitch, and now blood. Every moment this suit seemed to be more of a burden. It was such a shame, Shina truly loved this suit too. |

It would seem as though Shina found her fighting spirit, as she quickly called out to the attention of the Tengu as well. Drea smiled to himself as her determination was apparent in the tone of her voice. She was shaken, and perhaps, fearful as well, but she was just as ready to throw it all into the ring as he was. The only difference was, he was covered in a rather durable iron exoskeleton; she was still flesh and bone for all he knew. Even though she had temporarily drew his attention, the problem was the same: His opponent remained stealthy and out of sight, and used a deadly accurate projectile that kept him well out of range of his normal free form combat. Not only this, but they were after all, on their opponents' home turf. He knew the place better than he did, and could move through it readily. What they did have was numbers, but their numbers counted for nothing if their opponent simply had better technology. You wouldn't normally think as technology as a bow and arrow, but it beat a blunt staff and a penguin suited girl any day. He could try and engage, but his opponent would probably quickly put distance between them, and continue firing arrows. At least, that's what he would do if he had that advantage. If only he could get his hands on the Tengu, he could beat him to a pulp! Shina called out for him to watch for traps as well! Snares was something he had never thought about, but it was practical to think that an opponent whose maneuverability was his main advantage, would have also been using the land to fight for him as well. If they were cautious enough to put up an electric fence, and bear traps like the one that had caught the woman earlier, then it would make sense that even more traps still existed! Drea froze for a moment as he took a quick served the ground in the clearing. There was no way, he realized, that he could multitask all of these details! But wait, maybe they were thinking about this all wrong, or at least, he was. He first thought was to use their numbers as an advantage of position, but his opponent already had the positioning on lock. What they had to do was use their advantage in numbers to combine brains, not separate them. As though retreating, he turned on his heels and ran back to Shina's position behind a rock, only to see her already wounded from an impalement from an arrow. Drea's eyes darted open; though his plan was far from ruined. His voice was rushed, be he tried to make himself as clear as possible without being loud, "Uhh shit... okay! I know it sucks, hey! I know it's shitty but umm... okay! Here the idea, i'm going to put you on my back. You're good at navigating I take it! You have to be my eyes; help me find him and then i'll give em' a good wacking! We can't run away now, so we'll fix you up as soon as we're done beating his ass, okay? Hang in there! " he said. He was obviously trying to keep his cool, though was in haste, as the heat of battle had done more than spiked his adrenaline at this point, "Four eyes are better than two and if you can keep track of everything then i'll be your shield. His arrow's can't hurt me; we'll be fine, promise." |

Shina stared up at Drea, forcing back the tears from her eyes. Showcasing weakness wasn't very cool. He offered to ferry her on his back so long as she became his eyes. It is true that Shina was skilled with navigation, and she was also experienced with utilizing stealth. Combining their total power could prove quite useful. With Drea's brawn and her guidance, they had a chance to overwhelm the archer. Shina gave the cyborg a quick nod before struggling to get to her knees. She peeked over the rock briefly towards the archer and caught a quick glimpse of him moving to gain a better vantage point on the duo behind the rock. "We'll, have to move quickly. Help me rip off my suit. I have a plan." Said Shina in a hushed tone. She quickly set about ripping open the penguin suit she was trapped inside, revealing the tank-top and shorts she was wearing underneath. Getting her leg out of the suit was a bit of a hassel, and the pain was intense causing Shina to grimace hard. "In the end, I guess I don't need to meet that blacksmith afterall." Said the woman jokingly. "I'm going to throw this off to the left side, to distract him for a moment while we move." With a quick flick of her wrists, Shina sent the penguin suit flying off to the left before grabbing hold of Drea's shoulders. "Let's move. And if you make a joke about me being heavy, you'll regret it." Immediately Shina noticed the penguin costume she tossed up had been pinned to the tree behind it by three arrows. It only took a moment for Shina to take in the surroundings. Whoever this Tengu was, he wasn't skilled in hiding his traps. Most of them were fairly obvious and out in the open. "The archer is currently moving west along the treeline to our left side. I think he's moving towards that particularly large trunk for a better vantage point." Said Shina. Her voice was steady. Now that she had a good look, without the fear of an arrow hitting her in the heart, Shina was finally able to notice the surroundings better. The bodies hanging above were all hung using what seemed to be metal wire. This, Tengu, clearly didn't smelt that himself. He had to be getting supplies from somewhere. Whoever he was, it was certain that he was no demon. He was just a man, and this realization removed any fears Shina had left. They could do this. They could win this fight. If Shina or Drea was really paying attention, they might have been able to hear the soft sound of running water grow steadily as they moved. There was a river nearby. |

After removing the penguin suit (which in its own way seemed as though it were a 'loss'), Drea could more clearly see the wound she had sustained from the arrow. Thank god that it was only in her ankle and not her knee, or some other place more adventure ending. With that, she quickly jumped on his back backpack style, "Okay, just hold on tight." he said. At some point he would have to use his hands, but for now, he scooped his arms under her legs behind the knees to support her on his back. Luckily too, she was quite light compared to the metal frame he carried around. "And hold this too." he said, handing her the metal quarterstaff which was essentially just a long pipe at this point. As soon as they were relatively organized, Drea began working on the details of exactly what to do next. As the penguin suit flew, it was immediatly a target for numerous arrows. This was his cue to get moving; but as Shina hinted that he was to the west, on the left side of the treeline, it only made sense to move toward the target, not away from him. It would be possible to flank the archer if he was expecting them to be on the right side instead of the left. All and all it was a risky maneuver, but hopefully it would pay off. After all, running away from him would just put more distance between them, and naturally, give a projectile using archer more of an advantage. Drea made his way through the folliage and brush of the forest; paying close attention to the western treeline as well as the larger tree that Shina hypothesized to be the Tengu's target. If they were both moving, and with haste, then the Tengu most likely wouldn't be able to shoot them. As soon as Drea rounded the clearing and behind a number of trees, the thud of an arrow hitting the tree was heard on the other side. No doubt the Tengu had caught glimpse of them while he was trying to flank around him. They were more or less pinned down; the second he moved from behind the tree, he would most likley be met with an arrow. They were close, as they weren't too far from the large tree itself, but still too far away to make a close combat assault. As they say 'so close, yet so far away'. "What do you think now Shina?" Drea asked with a huff and a puff. It wasn't exactly hard moving about with a person on your back, but it wasn't easy either. Needless to say, he was expending his energy much faster trying to be the legs for two people, but it was all necessary. |

Shina was, in simple terms, at a loss. They were pinned down from a ranged opponent who held superior positioning and was likely sporting some kinds of traps and/or other nasty tricks up his sleeve. They couldn't rush him, not with Shina's leg in this condition, and, to make matters worse, the longer this fight dragged on the worse it would get for the unlikely duo. Shina's leg was still bleeding, Drea clearly couldn't keep running around while carrying her, and this archer seemed like the patient type. Were Shina a marksman of some sorts, things would have been much easier. But, alas, she could not handle ranged weaponry at all. The only thing the girl had going for her was her ability to avoid detection while moving, and considering her current condition that seemed nearly improbable if not outright impossible. Unfortunately, the only option seemed for the duo to split up. One of the two would have to draw the archer's fire while the other rushed him. Shina, being incapable of moving with any sort of quickness at the moment was not the best option to rush the archer. Drea, on the other hand, had his metallic armor and unhindered movements backing him up. Even if the archer realized their ploy the likeliness of him landing a lethal blow on the cyborg in the time it would take Drea to reach him was slim. "You're going to have to leave me." Said Shina with a stern tone. She kept her voice soft and low. Then, without giving Drea an opportunity to interject, Shina continued, "I'll draw his fire for a moment while you rush him." The girl's voice was steady. Her mind was made up. There was no way the two of them could overtake the archer without playing a dangerous game. Climbing down from Drea's back, Shina stepped onto the ground using only her good leg for balance. She gingerly applied some light pressure to her other leg. A burst of pain shot through her body, igniting all her senses. Choking back tears, Shina gave Drea a reaffirming thumb's up as she put more weight onto the leg. It took everything she had to keep her visage stern. Without warning, Shina moved into action. She gave Drea no opportunity to dissuade her. She knew he probably wouldn't like her idea, but there was no other option. Shina dove out from behind cover, dragging her lame leg behind her as she moved. The Tengu wasted no time honing in on her. He let loose a dozen arrows from his bow toward the girl. Shina could only hope that Drea would reach him before she became a pincushion. Edited by KileyBarker, Jan 20 2014, 10:15 PM.

The desperation of the situation was reaching it's peak, but the difference in fighting experience was something that became evident. Drea already knew that the Tengu had the ability to take his time, to be patient, but what he also realized was that they weren't exactly in a rush either. After all, this was no race; especially when ending the race would result in death! From behind this rock, they were safe, and unless they were going to sit at a perpetual stalemate, time was enough to give them a small advantage. With enough time, a solution could be found; with enough time, the Tengu would be exposed. However, Shina's mind was racing just as his was. Adrenaline, as well as the limbic system creating a near bottomless supply of fight or flight instincts would lead to a world that moved in fast forward. The panicked feeling was enough to blind the senses and cause one to rely only on impulse. A warrior learned to steady themselves; to recognize the fear and depend and believe in themselves. While Drea was no warrior, at least not yet, he could at least believe in himself, and believe that neither of them would be killed today. Before Drea could communicate this faith with Shina, and oppose her want to split up and sacrifice one of them, she had already leapt out from behind the rock. Drea's eyes shot wide open at the girl's Final Gambit. It was brave that she was so quickly willing to through herself to the wayside, but this was the kind of courage which was rash, even by his standards. Instead of taking off into the direction of the Tengu as she insisted, Drea jumped out after the limping girl. Gasping the staff the girl once held and using himself as a human shield, he braved the many arrows; spinning the staff in front of him to deflect the arrows as he could and allowing what he couldn't block to hit him instead of Shina. Though his exterior was metal, the arrows that scored solid blows still left dents and scrapes. "What are you thinking?! Jeeze! Don't be dumb! I have an idea, we got this! Get back behind the rock!" he said, shielding her as he could while waiting for her to return to cover, "It's a really good one, promise!" |

Drea outright refused Shina's solution. He made himself into her personal shield and warded off any incoming projectiles. Frustration gripped the girl. The sound of metal hitting metal was sickening. Even if he was made of metal even Drea couldn't withstand this onslaught for too long. Forcing back a snarl, Shina followed his instructions to get back behind cover. "What are you doing!" Cried the girl in reply to Drea's antics. "There's no way we can overtake him without sacrificing something. I'd gladly give my life to take down a mass murderer like this." Shina's voice cracked slightly at the end of her spiel. She was truly frustrated, hurt, and her mind wasn't functioning at peak efficiency. Blood loss tended to do that. "We don't have a lot of time to deal with this." Said the girl as she pointed to her still bleeding leg. Her sense of balance was waning with the loss of more blood and her eyes were growing glassy. "And that last village didn't even have a doctor in it who could handle this kind of injury. We still need to cross the rest of this mountain!" At this point Shina had began rambling. Her mind was trying to compensate for the dying senses and it was forcing her to become incoherent and detached. Finally, after a short tantrum of sorts, the girl managed to take a deep breath. It was a last ditch effort to calm herself. Drea had mentioned a plan. He hadn't proven himself to be a liar yet, but Shina still doubted he had found a way out of this all. The girl slumped her back against the rock, letting her body go limp for a moment of relaxation. The pain surging through her was so intense, despite her best calming attempts, she still couldn't think clearly. "This plan of yours better be fucking brilliant." She swore. Shina, in all her life, had only sworn three times, counting this one. It was a big deal for her. This was a life and death situation and she wasn't operating on the same inhibitions anymore. Shina was resolved to die here, but, despite that, she still wasn't going to go down without a good fight. Edited by KileyBarker, Jan 21 2014, 11:19 AM.

As Shina returned to cover, he himself lunged back behind the tree, sparing himself of having to be a human (well, cyborg to be correct) shield any longer. He quickly checked himself over, as the dings and dents were noticeable but wouldn't stop him from operating or functioning correctly. A quick mental diagnostic satisfied his concerns while the girl continue to bark at him about going against her final wishes, "Don't worry jeeze! We did sacrifice something. That penguin suit..." He said, recalling that only moments ago she had to shed the suit for the sake of mobility. She was right about her wound however. It kind of made him cringe to look directly at the shard of arrow sticking out of her leg. He could only imagine that it hurt like a bitch. But Shina was no bitch. She had proven time and time again that she was tougher than that the past penguin exterior had led on. He couldn't necessarily dwell on the fact that she was wounded; especially when his radical plan put most of his faith in her. She harped that the village they had just come from didn't have a doctor. But how did she know that?! They were just there for like, a few minutes before changing direction and charging up the mountain. But that was dwelling on the next step... one thing at a time. Drea was also rather proud of this next detail. While he had jumped out in front of Shina to shield her, he also paid close attention to the pattern in which the archer was capable of shooting arrows. While they did come rapidly, they normally came in three arrow bursts; as he counted when they hit him. Even a skilled warrior with a bow had to reload; and that interval was a moment of weakness! Add a sprinkle of the element of surprise, and you had an effective counter offensive. "Okay, you're willing to die right? Well you might have you chance." He said, taking his staff and practically forcing it into Shina's hands. The girl was immobile but he at least had the strength necessary to make this work. He scooped her up in his arm, jumped over the rock itself without a moments notice (probably freakin Shina out even more in the process) and with all of his might, dug his feet into the ground and jumped. Three arrow, one-two-three, just as he had insisted. He turned in mid-air, allowing these arrow to hit his back before using an overhead throw to catapult Shina above him and toward the archer. This was the last of his effective strength for now. The effort pushed the boundaries of his own strength and maxed out even his cyborg body, "Go get em! " He said. Shina would be flung through the air and at the 'Tengu' with his iron staff in hand. The Tengu would be in between reloading and most likely caught off guard that he had used a person as a projectile! Hopefully she could get a good wack on him, but even if she just managed to knock him out of the tree, it would give him a chance to kick his ass with what strength he had left. Panic. Fear. Pain. Terror. All these things filled the girl at Drea's words about her getting her chance to die. It was a jarring feeling. When she said it herself it didn't hang off the air with the same oppressive feelings like it did when those words came from another's lips. But then, before she could even ask about what Drea meant, he shoved his staff into her hands. A spark of confusion overtook her. What good would disarming Drea do for this situation? Suddenly a feeling of weightlessness overtook the girl. Drea was picking her up. "Wha..." Started the girl but her words were immediately cut off by what happened next. His hand against her stomach was applying a bit too much pressure, but Shina was a bit more preoccupied with the pain in her leg to bother caring about the pain in her midsection. Drea allowed a burst of arrows to pass by. He was clearly seeing something Shina wasn't about the archer's patterns. Perhaps he was more perceptive than he let on? Suddenly a tug. Shina was moving. She heard Drea's words echo through the forest as she flew. The cyborg had hurled her, and not just anywhere for that matter. Drea was flying straight at the archer. It was a strange feeling, almost like falling off a cliff. Most people think they wouldn't be able to suppress their screams in a situation like this, but Shina found she couldn't scream at all. The onrush of air filled her lungs too quickly when she tried. A thousand thoughts flashed across the girls mind in just a modicum of a second. One thousand thoughts painted the scenery of her life in just that moment. So this was what a near death experience felt like. Determination steeled itself inside Shina again. She had a clear view of the archer now. He seemed to pull arrows out of his quiver in sets of three, which allowed for the illusion of rapid fire. Had Drea noticed this during the fight? By the divine, Shina was too focused on staying alive to even think of these small details. Why was it, in people's supposed last moments, their minds wander to the most useless and mundane thoughts. Shina's actions were almost reflexive as she raised the metallic weapon high over her head. Her arms were like the hammer of a pistol. Then, in a simple motion the trigger was pulled. Her arms descended like a thunderbolt and Shina buried the staff into the archer's brain. Shina wasn't trained in how to swing weapons, but she did have one thing going for her. Shina was unusually strong physically. And it didn't exactly take a trained monkey to swing a metal pole. The blow, unusually harsh, seemed to snap The Tengu like a twig. He collapsed onto the ground and Shina, due to her momentum, continued onward to a point farther along where she hit the ground hard, losing her grip on the staff and rolling forward at the same time. Her body was writhing with pain and she could feel the darkness creeping into the corners of her vision. Everything around her seemed to be flashing red. The world itself was spinning. Shina's body heaved itself onto one knee as if to attempt at standing. She couldn't fall asleep here. She had to make sure the archer was still alive. She had to... The girl collapsed in a heap on the ground. She was breathing but she was exhausted and battered. For now, all she wanted was to sleep. Light began to filter in through the black screen of reality. Shina's eyes shot open and she looked around. She was lying in a bed. Her leg was wrapped in thick bandages and was suspended by several straps. She was in a hospital. For the Grader

Thank you for your patience. Your storyline has been reviewed.
I already went ahead and deducted both food upkeep and Drea's cyborg upkeep.
