There comes a time in everyones life where they must grow up.

Where they must take their dreams into their own hands, and squeeze and wring them out so that the pulp and juice is collected for the breakfast of ones waking into the real world. However, this time had yet to come for young Drea Read. The boy, still of his youth, and naivity; was still in the slumber of his lucid dream land, where bright ambitions and dark nightmares met and mingled and neither of them were at all frightening. Born and raised in a place surrounded by these nightmares, where the shadows moved from the corners of your eyes just as you looked over your shoulder, Drea had come to know these things to be his friends, and was fearless because of it. Now, he set sail to the sea and arrived to Hitsuji Archipelago, via ferry, in order to begin an adventure of his own. Though he would come to brave those things which others seek shelter from, and endure challenges which would prove too great for others; he was driven by an ambition as deep as his instinct. These things excited him. The possibilities excited him.

That being said, instinct isn't everything... Drea may have had the drive, but what did a 17 year old boy know about sailing? Or ships? Or what it meant to be a pirate in the first place. While he had the adventures, rumors and tall tales of others to go by, they were nothing to first hand experience. That is why, if anywhere, Hitsuji Archipelago would serve as the spring board for the start of this grand adventure. This place was made up of a number of reasonably well off island whose surface area made it quite easy for pirates to come and go. With such traffic and economy, this there was no doubt in his mind that he would be able to find people with similar ambitions of his own, who would want to take that step, or should I say, leap into the unknown.

He would attempt to find a ship, a crew, and maybe if he was lucky, a few friends. With much to explore and no time limit to do so, he took a deep breathe and stepped off of the ferry on to the dry land of one of the island. Taking a deep breathe to calm the butterflies in his stomach, he put one foot infront of the other, and marched inland.

Shina stepped off the bow of the ship with a quick hop. She had finally arrived. Hitsuji Archipelago didn't usually offer much to 16 year old girls, but, to Shina, it offered everything she needed. The girl had heard rumor of a legendary blacksmith who made one of these many small islands his home. With determination in her heart, the girl had set her sights upon finding this man. Now you may be wondering why a young woman such as Shina would need to find a master blacksmith. The answer is quite simple: Shina was stuck wearing a large fluffy penguin costume with a smashed zipper. As to why the girl didn't just cut her way out of the suit... She loved penguins too much that the thought of defiling the suit was the same, to her, as murdering an actual penguin itself!

The suit ruffled softly with the wind as the girl began her trek from the docks. Occasionally, due to her gait, the beak would shut on her and she'd lose all vision of the path. After a brief reprieve, the girl would fix her beak-mask and then continue her journey. There were many islands that made up Hitsuji, and the blacksmith could be living on any one. Shina would need to find a map of the islands... Or make one herself. The second option would prove rather difficult considering her penguin-suited-situation. The thought of attempting such a feat nearly brought a smile to Shina's face.

There were steps one could follow that would allow them to learn the layout of a new location. One could find a map, draw a map, or, a third option, one could find a local and ask them for directions. The last option, also a last resort, involved throwing away one's pride to discover the way. Shina thought about this last option for only a moment before deciding against it. The penguin suited girl took a solid step forward. This would be the first step on a long journey. These islands could take a lifetime to navigate. Such adventure seemed like a world away from Shina's past life. Perhaps it would be a refreshing change?

Things seemed slightly overwehlming for Drea, in some respects. He had never left his home island before, and suddenly, upon taking the first steps off of the ferry, he realized just how big the world was and how big it could still become. But he wasn't the type to allow the sinking feeling of being small get to him. On the contrary, whenever he felt the slightest bit insecure, he took it upon himself to be outgoing. If the world was big, then he would explore this big world with vim and vigour.

There was one thing that stood out almost immediately. That was, a large penguin waddling down the docks as though it had just arrived itself. These particular flightless birds were used to climates many times colder than here, so it seemed a bit odd that one would just be waddling its way down the street; not only this, but one so large! Either way, it seemed to be headed somewhere specific; where as Drea did not have any real destination in mind. In this sandbox adventure he could start and stop anywhere he wanted to, and it seemed as though tailing this odd penguin was more than a good place to start.

He had never really tailed anything before. For Drea, this had quickly become a mission impossible level task in which he was, as though an assassin following his target, attempting to blend into the urban enviornment; trying to stay close to the penguin without being too close to it that if figured out that he was following it! That being said, unless it waddled around completely to look at him, he probably didn't have to worry abou the penguin being suspicious did he?

Who knows! Maybe a penguin would make a perfect pet to keep on the ship. Some pirates most commonly had parrots or some other manner of exotic bird; so why not a penguin! The fact that it was flightless made it easier to keep around, though the ability to swim might make it more willing to run away. Or, Drea thought, the swimming bird would allow them to hunt underwater prey together! Imagine, diving under water with ones companion gian penguin, catching fish bare handed and then roasting them over a camp fire under the star light of that same evening. The possibilities were endless!

As Drea's imagination raced, he was now almost convinced that he wanted a penguin on his pirate crew. He would continue following casually behind the penguin, trying to employ the best spy mode he could muster.

The path before Shina began to twist into what looked to be a forest. The trees were comprised of Pine and Cypress. The girl quickly noted the tree composition and immediately her navigatorly instincts kicked in. She had learned that forests, when comprised of these trees, are typically swamps. Getting lost in a swamp would be a near death sentence. It is rather easy to lose your way and if you lose sight of the path you may never find it again. Shina quickly decided she would not stray from the compacted path that cut through the woods. To stray from it would be something only a fool, or an uneducated individual, would do.

As Shina moved further into the swamp the trees began to form a canopy above. The sunlight began to flicker and darkness soon took place of the light. The forest had a creepy feel to it. The sounds of birds began to muffle as the girl moved even deeper along the path. She had no honest clue where she was going; Shina had just resigned to follow a path. Perhaps she had picked the wrong path. A foreboding feeling of dread overtook the girl. Goosebumps formed along the nape of her neck. Something was odd. It felt like she was being watched by some malevolent force. Perhaps it was just the atmosphere of the swamp around her. Whatever it was, it was certainly not making her convictions about exploring the islands any easier.

Just as quickly as it had disappeared, the skittering light started to come back into view. Unfortunately with the return of the light came a new problem. Directly ahead of the girl lay her first obstacle in, undoubtedly, a series of hardships. There was a fork in the road… Literally. A giant fork was sticking up out of the rode directly in between two branching paths. Shina was so astounded by the sight she actually had to stop and stare at it for a moment. Whoever the genius behind this was, Shina liked their style. For a moment, the fairly stoic girl let loose a long giggle. With a quick motion she retracted her arm into the penguin suit and produced a coin from the opening where her face was.

“Heads I go left, Tails I go right.”

Something seemed rather precarious about the path the penguin was taking. Fromt he docks and what seemed to be civilization, the flightless bird continued to treck deeper and deeper into what seemed to be a mire of vegetation. While he didn't necessarily doubt the penguin, it seemed odd that a bird, so far outside of it's habitat would continue to go deeper and deeper into contrasts with it's natural enviornment. Not only this, but it made being stealthy considerably harder, as now there were only two people walking this path; himself and the penguin. Having no formal spy/tracking training, he could only go by what his imagination could conjure up as proper protocol for sneaking up on someone; which for the most part was a number of ridiculous and unnecessary flips and rolls from one hiding spot to the next. When this became too tiring, he simple resorted to tip toeing.

With his current emersion in his current spy facade, he hadn't yet noticed that the surrounding enviornment became more and more murky and dark. Of course, on his home island which was basically one big grave yard for the North blue, places like these were common. He almost felt at home as the instinctive tingle shot up his spine that something or someone was looking from over his shoulder. Of course, while he was used to the feeling of ghosts crawling over his skin, he realized that the penguin, might not. The irony of it was, there actually -was- someone watching the penguin! Himself!

As they seemed to pass through the thickest region of the thicket, allowing for sunlight to peep through the overhanging branches and leaves, he noticed the penguin come to a stop; causing him to stop as well. He observed the penguin closely, as it observed what appeared to be... a giant fork. In his mind, this was the perfect time to spring his conversational trap on the penguin!

Creeping forward, he heard the penguin say something. Wait a second, giant penguins can talk!? This was getting better and better! As it flipped a coin in the air (apparently penguins can flip things with their flippers as well, what an awesome penguin), Drea spoke, "Hey penguin! Where ya goin!?" He said, certainly it would be startling. Though almost as soon as he said this, he realized that it was not a penguin, but infact, a penguin suit, as the stitching which was hard to see from far away was now much more observable from close up.

His heart sank as his dreams of having a penguin companion were shattered.. the first great disappointment of his journey.

"Hey penguin! Where ya goin!?"

A shiver, starting at her ankles and working its way up, traveled across Shina’s body. The coin hit the apex of its flight and spun, weightless, for a moment before it began its descent. The metallic disk passed the penguin-suited girl’s hands and barreled towards the ground where it hit with a distinct ‘Clink’. Shina’s body was still. She had been certain there was no one else upon this path. It was a man’s voice. At this crossroad there only existed one young woman, a dark forest, and a stalker. The coin landed on heads.

Shina turned about slowly to face her stalker. She quickly put her hands, err… flippers, up as she took a defensive stance. She didn’t know what this guy wanted but now she at least knew she wasn’t crazy. The reason Shina felt like there was someone following her was because there was! Using this opportunity, Shina sized up the guy. He wasn’t very tall, nor did he look all that villainous. In fact, he looked like a pretty typical teenager, albeit he seemed a bit more fit than most. The strangest part of this all was, as soon as she gave the fellow a good look Shina could tell he wasn’t trying to hurt her. The girl immediately dropped her guard for a moment as she reflected upon this.

Perhaps he hadn’t been following her. What if the fellow had just been doing the same thing she had and was following the same path? Still it was strange that she didn’t notice him earlier considering her own penchant for stealth, but, then again, Shina wasn’t exactly expecting anyone to be following her so her guard was down. Realizing she would get nowhere just pondering on these issues, there was only one apparent answer. She would have to talk and attempt to communicate with this boy.

“I don’t really have a destination in mind. I’m just exploring right now. Also I’m not a penguin… I’m looking for this island’s fabled blacksmith. Rumors have it a legendary metallurgist lives somewhere on these islands… Now, who are you and what are you doing following me?” Shina decided to phrase the question with a slightly more pungent tone. As soon as she finished speaking the iron beak accidentally shut on her face. She quickly reopened it with cheeks reddened from embarrassment.

Drea tried to hide the obvious disappointment that he was feeling. One by one, the feelings of having a penguin companion melted away. But at least the consulation was that, there was a girl wearing the penguin suit. Perhaps, if he weren't so immediately depressed, he would have had the courage to say something sly and witty; something that would pique her interest in him, but in this case, both the overwehlming desire to 'adventure' coupled with the burning pain that was his disappointment would keep him from doing so. He heard her plight, and understood that she didn't necessarily know where she was going -- which was impressive considering her straightforwardness about traveling. Perhaps she was exploring as well, and if she was simply searching for some legendary blacksmith, then wouldn't it just be easier to ask someone?

He looked up at the fork in the road, "I'm Drea. Drea Read. I'm uhh, a pirate! Yeah that's right. A pirate setting out on a epic voyage! I just so happen to be starting said voyage today, so it's kind of a work in progress and uhh..." Drea looked upward at the large fork, then down at the coin on the ground. Pointing down the right path he would explain himself, "He's to the right! The fork is like, slightly tilted toward the right; and who else could make a massive fork but a master blacksmith? It's obviously a road sign, as much as it is artistically ironic." He said, turning and walking down the right path, regardless as to weather the penguin suited girl followed or not.

In some odd way, he had just adopted her mission to find the blacksmith. He didn't necessarily have a direction of his own, and so the moment he learned of this girls quest, it was as though fate was directing him in a direction as though plot alone had set his path for him. Little did Drea know, the coin had landed on heads, and a coin on heads meant to go left. The penguin suited girl now had to find out if she would follow the instinct of a little black kid, or the path chance had dealt her?

So his name was Drea… And he was a pirate of all things. So he was a scoundrel after all. Though he didn’t really look like one. Shina had never had any issues with pirates. She had spent a good portion of her time back home up at Whiskey Peak learning the cultures of the seas from pirates and other seafaring travelers. Pirates were like any other humans travelling the seas… Though, admittedly, some could get a bit more brazen than most. The girl turned on her heels while in thought. She glanced down at the coin taking in the orientation. It had landed on heads.

The boy, Drea, then began to rattle on about the blacksmith. He did have a point. Who on earth would have the skills to craft a giant metallic fork other than the legendary blacksmith himself. It was indeed a very convincing point… But the fact that the fork was only slightly angled towards the right side didn’t really seem like such a convincing tell of which path to take. But, before she could even object to his reasoning, the young man had already taken off down the path on the right. Shina was left alone with her thoughts.

The girl stared down at the coin for a moment. She leaned over and picked it up. With a quick motion the single beli was placed back into her suit where it had originated from. Shina fumbled and stumbled for a moment as she gathered her bearings and took off running behind the lad.

“W-wait up!” Called out Shina as she finally caught up the guy. “Are you sure this is the right path?” Asked Shina with a quick huff as she caught her breath. Immediately after she posed the question she regretted it however. “Bah, who am I to question your reasoning? After all, I was going to leave the decision up to a coin. Anyways, the name’s Shina, Shina Hua. I’m a… Err… Well I was a priest of Cactus Island. I’m not a pirate like you, but I don’t think that it’s a big deal. A traveling companion is always a nice thing to have on a journey, pirate or otherwise.”

Shina had completely let her guard down at this point. Drea seemed like a nice guy, and there seemed to be no harm in travelling with him. As the path continued the swamp seemed to thin and soon enough it began to completely dissipate into a large meadow of tall swaying grass on both sides. There seemed to be a small hut on the side of the road sitting up ahead. Perhaps there was another village nearby. It would be most strange for a person to live this far out of the way for no reason.

The girl was quick to follow after, even telling him to wait up; and he albidged, slowling his marching pace until the girl could keep up. She introduced herself as Shina Hua, a priestess from a place known as Cactus Island. He wasn't much for religion, but the fact that she called it Cactus island was enough to peak his curiosity. He knew North Blue well enough, simply because of the tags of locations from which the body bags arrived at his island. Perhaps she was from a different blue entirely, "Not much of a pirate yet though... I'm here to find a crew! But if we happen to run into a blacksmith on the way, then no harm no fowl... right?" He said to himself and her with a grin. Once they made it into town, he would make his way to find a tavern; some hole in the wall place where people are looking for work in some devious ways. Pirates weren't hard to come by, as any man looking toward the idea of freedom was a pirate at heart.

"Cactus Island... hey I've never heard of it, but if you're a priest or something you must be a big deal." He said, pondering the though, "You think it's okay to tell a pirate you're a priest! I might hold you for ransom or something! We aren't the good guys, okay? But uhh, I guess you already know that huh..." he said, scratching the back of his head as their persistent march would begin to lead uphill slightly; the swamp terrain becoming more rocky steadily as they proceeded. Drea, having been on the same island his whole life, was quite interested in what life in other places was like. Almost on impulse, he couldn't help but ask, "Hey Shina, what's it like on Cactus Island? Is it like... and Island made only out of Cactus?!" He imagined, looking out on a sea in which there was nothing but catcus, or perhaps, sand made of up tiny little cactus, in which prickly thorns and needles jutted up every which way. The more he imagined it, the worse a place it sounded like. No wonder she left!

Shina winced at the “Big Deal” comment. She was, at best, a Lesser Priest from her island. She was also exiled for her ‘disgraceful actions’. It almost felt like a shot, but it was a shot in the dark at best considering Drea had no way of knowing such things. He then changed the subject of the conversation to his pirateyness and her strange trust of him. The answer to all that was simple enough. Drea didn’t look dangerous to Shina. At least, he didn’t look like he posed a threat to her in particular. He could, undoubtedly, pose a threat to others, but he just didn’t give off a bad vibe.

The young man finally changed the subject to something more personal. He asked her about home, about Cactus Island. She reminisced about home for a moment before collecting her bearing.

“Cactus Island is the first island in the Grand Line on the middlemost route.” Said Shina with a low hum. Her mind traced her trail back to the island and her many adventures there. “It’s called Cactus Island because of the enormous cacti shaped mountains that exist there. The ‘spikes’ of the cacti are actually tombstones. My people believe in ancient times a massive battle took place on the island leaving no survivors. Our sect guards these tombs, protecting them from vandals or other vile people. There are few things worse than defiling the dead in our religion…”

Shina paused for a moment in her short spiel about her home. “And uhh, even if I was held for ransom they’d get nothing from it. I’m technically not a priest anymore. I was, uhh, exiled from the Cactithedral. Hehehehe, I kind of have a penchant for taking things that don’t belong to me.” Shina said the last bit with a slightly reddened face. Her right hand, well flipper, was rubbing the backside of her head. She gave a mild laugh but her volume died off near the end. She almost cracked a smile but stopped halfway.

Up ahead the village slowly came into view. There were several straw and clay huts gathered around in a bunch. People could be seen out in the field harvesting the tall grass with curved blade-things. Shina knew they were farming, but she didn't know much else other than that. Her worldly experience was more in tune with desert environments.

“So, where are you from Drea?"

From the moment the penguin suited girl said the word "Grandline" he was paying particularly close attention, "Wow... the Grandline!? You were born there!? It's every pirates dream to go to the grandline, uhh, I think at least. Yeah, yea! It's the ship graveyard! The place where dreams go to die! That's where I'll be headed one day. I can't believe you were actually from there." he said, stary eyed as he pondered this rather cliche notion for pirates these days. Not everyone knew exactly what the grand line was about, and others avoided it at all costs, but Drea, in his naive disposition, knew that many of the stories he had read about pirates came from this dreaded and yet longed after place! Simply having mentioned it gave the penguin suited girl much more respect in his eyes.

It was only then that she elaborated on the island itself, and oddly enough, it sounded not a stones throw away from his own island as far as it's description. Naturally it wasn't exactly easy for him to wrap his head around how sects or religions or things like that worked. People from all over came to his island temporarily with their own beliefs and having seen and heard of so many, Drea simply began to discount them all generally. It wasn't nihilistic in that he discredited them, but rather, was so used to hearing so many things, that he thought it just normal for people to have their own opinions, and respected them all to a degree.

It was then that she said that she was exhiled; her tone seemed to drop a bit, and his empathetic instinct could pick up on the bit of shame and sadness that came along with it. She chuckled however, as she admitted to her crime. Drea began to put two and two together as he hypothesized her past in his mind's eye. She was a priest on a religious island who guarded tombs; she tried to steal something from the tombs, got caught, and was kicked out for it. Sounded enough like a pirate to him!

As the emerged from the forests, they found themselves amidst a small village. It wasn't all that developed, which was disappointing considering Drea would need a large stage in which to recruit scoundrel and misfits. He probably wouldn't find anything in a small village like this but farmers and handymen. Handymen like... blacksmiths maybe? Who knows. amongst the variety of islands, it would be something of a miracle (or at least good luck) to find a legendary metallurgist here!

"Your island sounds alot like mine. It's the island of ceremony. Here in the North Blue alot of marines are killed in action. Well my island is something of a big grave yard too! They bring the remains to our island, and we bury them in on big grave yard. The world government pays for most of it... in like insurance money and stuff. I don't really get it but... unlike your island, we raid the tombs all the time! It's usually alot of fun. Never take anything though..." He said. For a guy explaining an island that basically made a living off dead people he seemed awfully cheery, as if it was normal. Imagine a person born and raised around death as though it was some kind of... drunk uncle or something.

"But hey, maybe if you go back to the Grandline they will let you come back right? Like, they can't exile you forever right? That sounds alittle harsh... even by pirates standards." He included, looking about and placing his hands on his hips, "Maybe these people can point me in the direction of a big village! And who knows, maybe they have hints of someone who can de-penguin you at the same time, What do ya think Shina?"

Drea seemed particularly interested in the fact that Shina was from the Grand Line. Though this was slightly weird it wasn’t all that strange. She had been enthusiastic when learning about the Blues as well. The simple thought that there were so many vast expansive oceans to travel, and so many islands dotting these waters astounded Shina. The young navigator took in the thought with an internal smile. She dreamed of one day mapping every one of these great seas.

Finally the boy began discussing about his own home. It sounded awful. It sounded like hers. Perhaps these two had more in common than Shina had realized. Perhaps that’s why she hadn’t gotten any bad notions from this boy, because he was just like her. He grew up on a graveyard just as she had. What a sad childhood. Even as a young girl Shina had longed to break free from her mourning life. She had spent so much time with the dead already that she began to yearn for the opposite. Living your life just to mourn the dead wasn’t really living. Shina had always wanted to live. Perhaps this exile was what she truly wanted all along.

Finally Drea made a suggestion that the girl had been avoiding all day. The idea of a navigator having to ask for directions was demeaning and demoralizing. It really stung at Shina’s pride, but that isn’t to say she hadn’t been thinking about it the entire time. Shina desperately wanted to ask for directions, and now that she had some “Directive” from her companion it would be so much simpler. She could blame the wounded pride on helping a friend. Oftentimes small things like that were all the convincing the girl would need.

“Alright that sounds like a good plan.” Said Shina in reply to Drea’s idea.

The girl walked towards an elderly woman with a forced smile on her face, a rare occurrence for Shina. “Excuse me Ma’am?” Asked Shina.

“Oh my, yes dear?” Replied the elderly woman. Her voice was sweet and low with an aged rasp that made it sound just right.

“My friend is looking for the nearest city and I’m looking for the legendary blacksmith Yokuzu. Would you be so kind as to give us directions?” Asked Shina in response to the elderly woman. Shina used a tone she wasn’t accustomed to using.

“Why of course, dear. You’re both in luck. What you’re both looking for is on the other side of the Kankoro Mountains.” Said the woman as she pointed her hand off into the distance where three mountain peaks could be seen jutting forth from the valleys. “The Sycamore Trail will take you down around the mountains and over to Candor City. It’s a two day walk from here. The Blacksmith lives in Candor City too.”

“Two days!? You say the trail goes around the mountains? Is there any way to just pass through the mountains?”

“Well yes, there’s the Candor Pass…” Replied the woman before she paused a moment. “But you musn’t take that path! There are bandits in who live along those paths!”

“With all due respect Ma’am, I’m not afraid of any bandits.” Said Shina in response. She then turned her head to Drea, “But I’m not alone on this journey. What do you think Drea. I say we take the pass. I think we could make it to the far side before nightfall if we can cut through those mountains, but I’ll honor your opinion on the matter. Do we take the mountain path or travel the long road?”

Drea followed behind Shina as they traveled into the small working village. She approached a older lady and kindly asked for directions. As the two spoke, Drea's mind wondered off to the village itself, as well as the scenary. If this was just one of many different islands that made up the Archipelago; did that mean that each island was nearly as vast as his own? That this chain of islands was comprised of so many different biospheres that hiw own home seemed to pale in comparison? While it was easy to appreciate feeling small in such a big world, this sentiment was especially grand for Drea. After all, while to Shina his island might seem like something out of a nightmare, he had actually had a relatively 'good' childhood there. Imagine growing up in a nightmare and then waking up one day to discover that the real world has none of the ghost and monsters that you are accustom to. How wonderful the world might seem when it isn't half as horrible as the horrors you've grown used to.

He had managed to pick up at least the highlights of their brief conversation, and was now faced with the choice of going through the mountains, where bandits were apparently, and going around the mountains, where there were... not bandits. The second path being considerably longer didn't necessarily matter to Drea, as this was just an opportunity to 'adventure' longer, and really he hadn't a time limit. However, considering his penguin suited friends' current condition, he had to take into account that maybe she didn't enjoy being stuck as a penguin for all that long. Two days would be a while to be trapped inside of a penguin, and who knows how long she has already been in that condition.

Not only this, but the threat of bandits was hardly even a threat at all. The fact that bandits apparently hid in the mountains was actually rather exciting to him. He didn't have the intention of fighting them or anything, but just the fact that they existed was rather fascinating. In a world so big, villians and criminals had alot of places to hide. Who knows, if he was lucky, then maybe one or two of the bandits would feel like growing their sea legs and convert to the way of the pirate! He could only hope.

After a brief moments pause to process his thoughts and another moment simply to day dream on these imaginitive possibilities, Drea reached a decision, "Let's just go right through the mountain. I don't see any problem with it. Sounds like fun; besides, if we make good time, we'll have a warm meal and a comfy bed waiting for us somewhere in the city! Camping is fun but... I prefer comfort anyday!" He said; the last chunk of information comprised mostly of impulsive rambling (a characteristic trait of his personality. He thinks things through for the most part, but also has alittle impulsive flare as well).

"I pretty much came with everything I need... if we get super hungry we could go hunting but if we're just a days hike from the place I'm sure I can hold out. Do you think we need any supplies, or should we just head out?" He said, trying not to be too hasty. Having more or less decided his choice of action, he was restlessly ready to get on the move. As much as he wanted a place to recruit some pirates, he also looked forward to the ammenities that only a large village/town could provide.

It seemed Drea and Shina were of the same opinion. Whether he was basing his decision off of hers or if it was truly his own seemed like a distant thought. The two would be heading out for the mountains where they’d follow the old trail marked Candor Pass. A good look at the mountains foretold of a few hardships. The tops were snowy peaks with a thick evergreen forest exploding across the mountain face. The trip was going to be cold, there would be snow, and Shina was in a penguin suit. The irony was overwhelming.

“ Hmm, I can’t really go hunting. I’m a vegetarian and I’m firmly against the slaying of animals. If you eat some meat along the way I won’t mind since the creature has already perished, but I will not allow the slaying of innocent animals in my presence to take place.” Said Shina as her tone grew slightly serious. She knew vegetarians were rare on the seas due to the difficulty in getting non-fish-related foodstuffs while at sea. Fishing and hunting, at times, seemed like the only way any species could survive in these harsh environments, but Shina would rather starve than murder another living being. The girl was alright with beating the snot out of individuals that deserved it, but taking any fight further than that was just carnage. Her mother often told her when she was little that it took more willpower to defeat an opponent and not kill them than to slay everyone who crossed you. Murdering all those who cross your path will prevent them from returning, but there are other ways. Shina had seen enough death living upon a graveyard. She didn’t need to see anymore. Even if it was only a simple animal.

“I have several packs of rice and I’m certain we can scavenge some fruits along the way. That added to your provisions should be more than enough for a day-long journey. Worst case scenario we could always ‘Borrow’ some food from the bandits that make the mountain their home too.” Shina said the last part with a wink. For a religious kind girl, she wasn’t against stealing at all. It was really strange, but it was her nature. Shina never considered taking objects to be sinful. She just viewed the word “Possession” differently than others.

“Anyways, if we have enough goods let’s set out quickly then. I’ve been in this suit for over a day now and I’d really like to take a bath tonight.” The last part wasn’t necessary, nor was it tactful, but it was truthful. Being stuck in a penguin costume sucks. If the costume gets wet it gets super heavy too. So she couldn’t just submerge herself with the costume on into the water. And don’t even get me started on how she utilizes the latrine.

"Ve-ge-ta-ree-an?" he said, pronouncing the word that the woman had spoke. It should come to no surprise that he didn't know the meaning of the word, literally, and so, was alittle confused, but as she would go on to explain, it would make enough sense to him to sluff off as though a minor detail, "Multiple huh? That penguin suit of yours sure holds alot! Okay, i'm not a picky eater anyway... people can fry vegi's too right? Yeah I think I heard that somewhere..." He said, instantly content with the idea that he had convinced himself of. He caught only a moments glace from the older lady who was still in the background overhearing them. She had warned them against traveling into the mountains, of course, and hearing them going spitfully against her words as naive youth would most likely frighten the older woman. However, she still hadn't the need to warn them any further; perhaps not her place, or her business to do so. Drea made a point to address her.

"Don't worry! We'll be extra safe, I promise." He said with a bright smile, thinking that would be enough to calm her nerves. Unfortunatly for the lady, whether they made it or not, she would never know, as it was unlikely that they would ever see her again. "Hey Shina, do fish count as animals? You dont hunt fish you like... fish for fish, right? Ohh well, yeah we'll just ask the bandits if we get hungry. I'm sure they aren't all that scary." he said, half to her and half to himself.

"Okay! Let's head off. Thanks old lady!" He said, turning and moving at a marching pace toward the mountain down the designated path. He could only assume that Shina would follow suit, as she did before. If you haven't caught on, this seems to be a trend.

Before getting off the main road and to the trail itself, he turned slightly as numbers ticked in his head, "Yo Shina, you said it would take a days journey well... it's not exactly morning... Think we'll make it there by dusk? Maybe we should run..." he said. "Actually never mind, we'll be fine! We'll just camp out if we have to, or hey, we could just travel by moonlight! That's always fun." he said, turning his head, as though he had just had a conversation with himself.
