Three days later Ittai's ragged breath could easily be heard as he dodged yet another sharpened whip while allowing several unsharpened ones to hit his body. However, that was a small price to pay compared to the damage that the sharpened whips would inflict on his body. By the time the monk called a stop to this kind of training, the pirate had lost count of the whips that were in the air, focusing on the sharpened ones as he constricted individual muscles. While the chef has been used to pulling several all nighters while stalking his targets, the three days without sleep combined with intense training were taking their toll on his body. The only thing that kept him awake and moving was his sheer force of will. So it was no surprise that the doctor was rather happy when the old man stopped this part of the training. "Lets get this over with." Ittai growled out as he followed the master. It was not that he was mad at the monk to use that tone of voice, it was more like that that was the only tone he could speak in due to exhaustion. Following the old man to their destination, the pirate scowled as he saw a waterfall and heard what he had to do. With no comeback on his lips, the chef simply trudged into the cold water, shivering as he got up to his waist as he reached the waterfall and got under it, te frigid water cascading over his head and shoulders. Hell, it took a lot of his consious effort just to stay upright and awake under the pressure of the water. Granted, the coldness helped a bit with staying awake, though the chef did not know how long that would last. Time to get this over with. Focusing his mind, the doctor began to manipulate the muscles on the top of his head to cause the very bottom of his hairs to begin wiggling. That was the easy part. How to get the remainder of the hairs to move was the hard part. After all, hair was dead tissue and had no muscles whatsoever to help with the movement. Allowing the base of his hair to wiggle ever so slightly, due to the weight of the water, Ittai contemplated his current problem. |

Gyatso found himself watching Ittai carefully, the old monk sat down on a rock that was protruding from the ground. Gyatso didn't know why he had decided to train this person for free yet, nor could he think up of anything to charge him with. It would after-all be the last person he'd ever train, in the art of life-return that is. "That's it, try and get the base vibrating. Thin things like hair tend to lose momentum fast so you have to keep doing the same thing over and over." Gyatso actually found himself giving advice during one of the steps. It was the hardest overall, but to the old man it turned out to be the most fun one out of all of them which he used very often.

Lost in his thoughts about solving his current problem, Ittai barely heard the monk over the sound of the waterfall crashing onto his head. Well, at least he seemed to be going in the right direction so that was relatively good news. As much as the pirate wanted to strength the vibrations to superhuman levels, not that vibrating your hair in the first place wasn't superhuman, but the lack of sleep combined with the exhaustive and extensive training were beginning to take a toll on him. But, the chef knew that he could not fail now, not when he was so close to finishing his training. Just a little more and he would be done with it, the island, and the old man. That thought gave the doctor a little burst of will, which he devoted entirely to vibrating his hair at higher and higher frequencies and higher amplitudes. After all, it would take a good amount of power to even one strand of one meter long wet hair. Not that it was impossible, after all the monk must have done it as well when he was learning it, but it was pretty damn hard to accomplish. Sure the bilkan managed to barely move his hair back when he was attacked by the wild animals, but that was involuntary, very involuntary, and Ittai had no idea how he had done it. Granted that the movement was very slight, but still, his body had the potential of learning and mastering his technique, he just had to access that potential. The pirate figured that learning to control his hair would have been easier with dry hair, but you didn't learn how to properly do chinups without wearing a weighted vest after all. It was all about making sure that you could do it under the worst conditions. If you could, then making it work under the best conditions was pure child's play. But alas, the chef, in his current state, could not perform even that. But he would learn, by god he would learn. There was no other alternative for the alternative was failure and the doctor could not accept failure on his part. As such, the bilkan poured his will into making his hair vibrate, not particularly caring at this point if such devotion was doing any further damage to his body. |

Gyatso was sitting there for hours watching his student, before sighing. "Let's take a break for today boy. It's time to eat, then ya gotta go sleep. It's getting late and an old man like me needs some sleep, and so do you." Gyatso started to treck inside and straight into the area that could barely even be called a kitchen. It was more like a dining room with an oven and utensils. The old man made something at a nice and fast pace before putting the food down on the table. Gyatso ate a fast pace and then looked over to Ittai, "Remember to wash the plates before ya go to sleep boy. Hahahaha!" He walked off laughing like a demented old man. 5 days later Gyatso found himself up early that morning he wasn't sure whether ittai would be awake yet or not. But the old man couldn't help but walk toward the are in which his student would be. Gyatso was immensely proud that day for some reason or another. But that is a story for another day. Ittai was quite happy to hear the old man call a break for the day. Even if he would never admit it, the pirate's will was beginning to waver. It wasn't that he wasn't intent on learning life return, it was more of the fact the exhaustion was beginning to be too much for his will to overcome. As such, as soon as the monk had called for a break, the chef stopped moving his hair and immediately got out from underneath the waterfall, shivering as the water evaporated from his skin, leaving him feeling very cold in the process. Sitting on a rock under the waterfall for hours also did not not help since his legs were cramped by now and the doctor had to take a few dozen steps before regaining any sense of a normal walking pattern. Shivering, he followed the master back to the monastery. After drying himself off, the bilkan sat down at the table, waiting for the food, which did not take long. After hearing that he would have to do the dishes, the ex-ninja scowled tiredly before finishing his meal and washing the dishes. With that done, he barely made it to his sleeping pallet before falling into dreamless oblivion. 5 days later. Being rested certainly did wonders when it came to exerting his will to make his hair move. It had been five days since he had started the sitting-under-the-waterfall hair training and with regular sleep and food, Ittai managed to turn his hair into what looked like a writhing mass of snakes. Still, the pirate had to consciously focus his entire attention on the moving hairs to keep them moving constantly. Sure he was pretty far away from actually getting the hairs to extend and contract at will, but his current accomplishment was certainly nothing to sneeze at. And as weird as it felt to keep his hair vibrating enough for the entire length all each hair to move like a snake, doing so was proving to be a somewhat relaxing scalp massage. Well, it wasn't really relaxing, but it did keep his muscles from becoming overly sore after training. As he continued moving his hair, the doctor felt that there was something special about this day, but he could not put his finger on it. Oh well. |

Gyatso looked at Ittai and smirked, the boy had gotten most of this step down fairly well, the next part of this step was going to be a cakewalk if the boy could do this one so well. "Alright, I bet you want to know how to get your hair to grow right? Well it's a mix of two steps you should be familiar with, firstly you need to cause the muscles in your head to vibrate, this will simulate your hair follicles and cause sudden growth, an extreme version off this step causes retraction. Just practice that for a while boy, you might be done at the end off the day if you're lucky enough, anything else after this happens due to experience." Gyatso sat on a rock and watched his student. This part would prove to have interesting results.

Ittai listened carefully to the old man's words. After all, this was supposed to be the last part of the training and the pirate could not afford to make mistakes right now, not when he was so close. Anything else would make him take even longer and that was acceptable. He had already spent too much time on this island as it is. Time that he could have been spending trying to recruit people into his dream. Granted that this training was very important in his plans but he had hoped that it would be over much sooner than it was currently taking. Then again, it was better that he took the extra time to learn it properly instead of learning bits and pieces of it and then getting killed during a fight because he did not learn it properly. However, he did not have to like that it was taking so long to learn life return properly. Anyways, bitching and moaning were not going to help him learn the techniques any faster than he was already doing. As such, the chef simply concentrated on doing what the monk was telling him to do. Putting all his will and concentration into making the muscles on top of his head vibrate, Ittai tried to sense his hair grow in either direction unsuccessfully for several minutes. However, he did not give up. He had not given up thus far and there was no reason to give up now. It took about two hours of further vibrations before he felt his hair moving out of his scalp. Happy that he succeeded, the pirate poured in more will and suddenly his hair retracted almost fully, startling him as he was left with just a fuzz on top of his head. Panicking slightly, the chef tried to reverse the process and accomplished it, thought a bit too much for the hair double in its original length and wrapped all around him, threatening to suffocate him. While the panic was rising in inside of him, the doctor clamped down on it and regained control of his hair, returning it to the original length. While he had succeeded in making his hair shorter and longer, it was a far cry from being able to make it any desired length at will. ![]() 88 Edited by Edit, May 30 2017, 10:06 AM.

Gyatso smiled, the man was honestly happy about what had happened. This boy who two weeks ago couldn't even make a single muscle twitch, and now he was extending and retracting his hairs. "Well done my boy! You've finally done it. Now get outta here, and make sure to recommend Gyatso's strip club to all your friends! I'll be frickin' rich!" The End |
