If a character eats a zoan fruit, can they talk to the species of animal they turn into? With a technique or without one, would it be possible to do at all?

There is a perfect example for it. Chopper ate the human fruit and learned the human language.

Sure. Go ahead and talk to an animal. Chopper's fruit turned him into a human and he could speak like them. Turning into a Lion mean you can roar, roar like them, Villis. ROAR VILLIS!!!! |

Language isn't communication between animals, their behaviors are. If you can turn into a lion and learn the lion ways, you can communicate with lions. Or just eat the Hiso fruit. |

We don't know if Chopper instantly learned how to speak the human language simply by eating the fruit, or if he gained the intelligence to learn to talk, and then learned how to do it just like a human child does. But I'd say for the sake of the story (lines), I think it's safe to assume one can understand a bit more about animals if you get a zoan. I mean, Chopper, a reindeer, could understand seals from a different island. I think a semi-liok can understand lioks with that logic. |

It does seem fairly clear to me. If you go back and read the Drum Kingdom arc, you'll see that Chopper did not seem to be able to communicate at all with the humans when he first transformed, only aiding in the suspicion that he was a monster. It may not have been spelled out crystal clear, but it seems clear enough to me. But, that doesn't change the fact that Chopper can speak the human language now, while at the same time still understanding animals. Therefore, I would say it is quite possible. Though, as was said before, animals communicate more through actions and body language than verbal communication, so a conversation with an animal would be more revolved around understanding one-another's intent than having a detailed discussion. The argument could also be made that this is something that would require the Beast Handler trait, as that gives a character a greater affinity for understanding animals. |
